EDITH! I know she already has so many positive reviews, but here is another: my husband and I enjoyed ourselves immensely. She taught us so much about the history and culture of Montevideo and Uruguay. She was thorough and personable and funny as well as patient and open to all kinds of questions. After seeing the buildings and plazas in the city we rode on The Rambla out to the lighthouse. She gave us the option and we chose to ride back—13 km total. Do not hesitate! We highly recommend that you book this tour!!
It was fun with Edith and I learned a lot about Uruguays history. With our small Group it was a really intensiv experience.
Total no show - no prior notice. I scheduled this tour and paid for it. I show up early and look everywhere for the tour at the designated meet location and no one‘s there. I tried to contact the local tour guide and no response. I contacted Viator and they said they had no notice of cancellation. Well…I wasted an Uber ride to the location, walking all around, looking for the place and wasted 90 minutes trying to figure this out. Turns out the local tour company that it was assigned to by Viator, never looked at the confirmed reservation. They said well the weather was going to be bad and there was going to be a storm, so they needed to cancel for safety because we would be on bicycles and we could slip.” Would have been great if somebody let me know prior to wasting all my time chasing a tour that was never to happen. Viator must have some type of confirmation system, where a local tour company they obviously sell the tour needs to acknowledge they fecieved and will be able to support/deliver on the services! I’m NOT happy and NOT using Viator again. Paul 🇺🇸
This was an amazing tour to learn the history of the city and where to travel in the city after the tour. Edith went fully out of her way to make sure that the tour was successful. If you want to know the deep history she made sure you knew it. She even offered to skip over parts if people were not interested. It was all about ensuring everyone had the absolute best experience possible. Edith pointed out architecture so you saw and can notice details that many might overlook. The tour owner, Stella, even offered to let me keep the bike longer after the tour and made special arrangements for me to drop the bike off to my hotel (or local area if at an Airbnb/local) so that I can fully enjoy my time. That was very special and not offered at other tours I have done. Edith also made sure to offer local tips when traveling the city outside the tour, not only places to go but also how to ensure I had the best time in her city as possible. She also made sure the speed of going around was the right amount for all so no one was struggling but not going too slow if you wanted to bike faster. I felt incredibly safe on the streets with her and the city is great because there are bike lanes away from cars if you dislike being near traffic. Edith always had concern for those on the tour and wanted to make sure every question was answered to the fullest extent. You get to see some of the most beautiful spots of the city that walking will not take you.
Edith is an amazing woman and guide. Very knowledgeable and willing to modify the tour to meet our needs. I would have given this experience top marks but some of the bikes are in need of replacing
Great bike tour around parts of the city and down the front. I must have been lucky as I was the only person on the tour but they still went ahead with it and it was extremely enjoyable. Would definitely recommend it so enable you to see more of the city than walking.
Really enjoyed my bike tour! It was a great way to get to know Montevideo. Edith was a great guide and she tried really hard to tailor the tour to my own interests/needs.
The day was a little windy but totally worth it. Deb was thoughtful and experienced. We had a lovely time.
This bike tour was just what we were hoping for. We saw a lot of cool sites across a fairly wide area of Montevideo, and got some good exercise in the process. Our guide was amazing! She knew the area so well, born there, but good English from having lived abroad. She patiently answered our many questions and spoke loudly as some of us don't hear so well anymore. I highly recommend this tour and especially the guide Deb for anyone up for seeing the sites while getting good exercise!
Our guide Tiago, was very engaging and provided a great deal of information in a short period of time. We learned a lot about Uruguay generally and the city of Montevideo. He played a little trivia game with us to sharpen our knowledge of the country. We travelled a fair distance on the bikes so it was a great way to get some exercise and see the city. THe bikes were a bit beat up and I had trouble with the gears skipping. Give it a test run before taking off and ask for a replacement if necessary. The guide kindly offered to switch with me so I had a bike that functioned.
Very interesting tour. Our guide, Edith was very knowledgeable. The bikes were in good condition but helmets were not provided. There was one small hills to climb at the end of the tour. Fortunately the bikes had many gears. It is very windy along the river so leave your hats at home unless you have a chin strap.
We had a wonderful time on our bike ride with Anita. Montevideo is a beautiful city and we were able to see all the significant locations while enjoying the weather and scenery.
The tour guide (Edith?) was very good and knew a lot about Montevideo. We started out by making short rides between stops and the bikes did ok. But then we started on a much longer ride along La Rambla to the light house and my bike could no longer keep up. I did not expect such a long ride on a bike that was not up to the task. She was wonderful and slowed down but I think some bike maintenance is needed.
Had an absolute blast! Lovely guide who was clearly passionate about the history of the city and its many attractions. Would recommend to anyone who can ride a bike. Make sure you bring sunscreen though - I was very nearly bright red by the end of the day!!
It was a nice bike ride along the water.. Edith was .amazing.. knowing all the history and sites of Montevideo
Guide was very knowledgeable and bike riding through the City plazas was very beautiful. The Rambla is along the sea and we rodé on the bike path along the Rambla all the way to the light house.
Edith was a perfect guide sharing a lot of good insights in the country, political and history . Quality of the hikes was very disappointing.
Very good tour of Montevideo of the city and the tour guide Edith was very helpful and told me all about the history of Uruguay and Montevideo I would recommend this tour to everyone to do
Poorly designed tour without real thought around planning the route and information to be shared. The whole city was reconstructed so the old town isn’t worth much time. We went to 3 squares and only one worth the stop. We started 20+ minutes late as she insisted on waiting for a tourist who wasn’t responding. Then another 20 minute wait as the first stop as he was perpetually “3 minutes away”. The tour was meant to be 2 hours and at 1 hour 45 mins in we had barely moved 300m. The guide seemed unprepared and seemed to be thinking of things to say including a long speech about a plaque she thought could be improved. She offered to tailor the tour for our interest and at this point I took her up on the offer and asked if we could get a summary version so we don’t run over (we inevitably wouldn’t finish on time). She got really offended which was a strange reaction. She didn’t make eye contact for the rest of the tour and barely spoke (which makes running a guided tour a challenge). She then took us down the promenade riding for 30 mins straight. She didn’t even turn around let alone check we were ok. Then stopped very briefly to point to a beach and building. Then off again for another 15-20 to point to a lighthouse and a hill. Petty reaction for a perceived slight? It was very confusing. Tour guide aside the tour is just not worth it. For the history you’re better off going to a museum as the rebuilt city doesn’t give useful context. If you like cycling, hire a bike and go down the coast yourself. It’s an easy city to navigate. Skip the tour and enjoy the city, which is well worth it
Learned a lot about Montevideo and its history, all while enjoying a bike ride through the town. One of the brakes on one of our bikes broke partway through, so I would suggest double checking your bike before using it. Otherwise it was a great experience, would definitely recommend it if you have the time.
Postive: guide (Edith) tries to make sure everyone is accomodated. Well planned route and comments. Also, I think the company tries to do a good job - hustles to get bikes out, and to make the location to meet/pick them up easy to find. Negative: If you dont ride bikes often, the seat is very hard. If gel cushions could be provided, it would be a big help. I did not find the bike too heavy or rusty as some previous people commented. FYI - the 'turn around point' was the lighthouse. They let me continue up the Rambla 3 more kilometers and leave the bike at my hotel the Hyatt Centric, to be picked up by them later. That is where the MONTEVIDEO letters are. This was nice, as it saved me $16 Uber comfort fare and I'd had enough time on the hard seat.
Knowledgeable tour guide with lots of historical antidotes about Uruguay’s history. Beautiful ride along the waterfront
Whenever I visit a new place, I always opt for a cycling tour—it’s the best way to see the city while getting some exercise! My guide, Edit (like Édith Piaf), was fantastic. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of Montevideo and Uruguay, making the tour both relaxing and enjoyable. I was lucky to have amazing weather, too. I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in learning about Uruguay’s discovery, revolutionary history and rich heritage. Truly loved every moment!
One of the best tours I've taken and I would say it had a lot to do with getting to me the only person touring with the guide. Edith was so fantastic and tailored the tour to what I wanted to learn about and answered all my questions about Montevideo that weren't covered in the tour itself. It was such a special experience and I would 100% go again just to tour with Edith. She was also very willing to go at my pace with the biking and would ask to make sure I knew what she had said after speaking about something a little more complex since I don't speak Spanish and she wanted to be sure I understood her English. I highly recommend taking a tour with this company and asking for Edith to take you!
Edith did a great job showing us the city and explaining the history of Montevideo and Uruguay. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip.
Good series of stops / sites and Edith was an informative guide, with good English skills. We even added on an extra stop at the 'Montevideo' sign at the far end of the beach.
My wife was unable to attend the tour has the bike was far too big for her although we sent her height prior to our trip. I must say our tour guide Edith was extremely helpful with myself has I also struggled with the bike ,, it was of poor quality extremely heavy & it totally spoiled our day.
We had a beautiful day biking around the city and waterfront today. The guide,Edith, was very informative and very knowledgeable about the history of the city and country of Uruguay. Unfortunately the conditions of the bicycles was not good. Gears did not work and tires were not filled with enough air. Due to the poor conditions of the bikes we are giving this a bad review. If they repaired /maintained the bikes our ride would have been much better. Look for another bike tour with better equipment.
guide was excellent and Montevideo was lovely, but bikes were old and no helmets offered, if we hadn't asked to go the the light house I don't think we would have needed bikes as everything was so close.
It was easy to find since there were orang bikes outside. We were 20 min early so we could test bikes and adjust if necessary. The tour is suppose to start at 9 am. The owner comes at 9:07 and does not say “ hi” or sorry I am late. Does not acknowledge us or the other couple. The guide was nice and informative. We saw another bike tour on our ride. Montevideo is flat and easy to ride. Ride is along the water with a wide path to ride.
Excellent tour, you travel a good distance of 15-17km knowing many important places of Montevideo. I recommend that you check that the bikes work well before starting the tour so that they work all the way.
It was an excellent experience. The guide Miguel who accompanied us, I knew a lot about the history of Montevideo. Highly recommended
We were guided by Jos Pronk on a fantastic bike ride through Montevideo He showed us the highlights in a relaxed and humorous way An absolute must Cees and Nellie
It was a joy to discover with Betha Montevideo. She is a great connoisseur of her city that she loves and transmits her enormous knowledge to you with passion and amabolity.
