Dario is simply one of the single best tour guides I have ever booked with and I've been to about 50 countries and have done multiple tours in all of them. Dario has intimate knowledge of Montevideo and Uruguay that is obvious from not only the information he shares but also from the people he knows that you might meet during the tours. Montevideo is a small, intimate city, but Dario makes you feel like family. That's another level. If 11 out of 10 stars were possible, I'd give him a 12.

The Independence Square stands as the focal and paramount square in Montevideo, Uruguay. Situated at the heart of the city, it occupies the historic space that once served as the entrance to the fortified old city of Montevideo. At its core, the square proudly hosts the monument honoring General José Gervasio Artigas, a key figure in the struggle for independence. Surrounding this iconic monument, one finds the edifice housing the Presidency of the Republic, serving as the workplace for the President of Uruguay. The Plaza Independencia, thus, serves as a symbolic and historical center, embodying the essence of Montevideo's past and present.
The Constitution Square, also known as Plaza Matriz, graces the historic center of Montevideo's old city. Once the central square of the fortress city of San Felipe and Santiago de Montevideo, it witnessed the pivotal moment when Uruguay declared its independence as a nation. Nestled within this square is the Metropolitan Cathedral, adding to its significance. Today, the Plaza de la Constitución stands as a vibrant hub, attracting a constant flow of tourists and hosting various cultural spaces. It remains a key focal point in the city of Montevideo, embodying both historical importance and contemporary cultural vitality.
Avenida 18 de Julio serves as the primary thoroughfare in Montevideo, showcasing some of the city's most significant and historic buildings.
The Legislative Palace serves as the congress building and central hub of the Legislative Power of Uruguay. Constructed between 1908 and 1925 in Montevideo, the building was inaugurated on August 25, 1925, marking the centenary of the Declaration of Independence.
The park offers an ideal setting for leisurely strolls, hiking, or exercising, allowing visitors to relish the refreshing air within the wooded surroundings. Adjacent to the Centennial Stadium stands the La Carreta monument, a creation by the sculptor José Belloni.
Parque Rodó is a tranquil residential district surrounding its eponymous green expanse, complete with a boating lake and classic amusement park attractions. Within the park, the National Museum of Visual Arts showcases 20th-century Uruguayan paintings and a charming sculpture garden.
Situated within the Pocitos neighborhood, this beach lies along the shores of the Río de la Plata. Take a moment to explore the Montevideo Signboard, capturing photos and savoring the panoramic vistas of one of the city's most picturesque neighborhoods.

We had a great time with Dario! He was on time waiting for us when we disembarked the ship and his car was nearby. He offered to fetch the car, but we were happy to walk. Unfortunately the air con was broken, but he had plenty of cold water and with the windows open it was fine. We walked through all 3 squares and he told us about the history of Uruguay and the important buildings/statues. He knew all the best places to take photos from to get the best shots! We even got to see a wedding!! We drove to the football stadium where the first World Cup was held and then the Congress and on to the beach. We stopped at a little park where there is an art exhibition every month and finally went into the covered market opposite the port to see the barbecues, local dancers and drummers and to taste a local drink. It was a very interesting, packed trip and we thoroughly enjoyed Dariio's company. Thank you 😊
Darío was an outstanding tour guide. Tour was a perfect mix of learning about the history of Uruguay and Montevideo as well as seeing and exploring its newer areas. Dario was friendly, knowledgeable, and great company. I highly recommend this tour.
Our guide Dario was excellent in showing us this beautiful city - well planned and well explained - we covered all the important sites and history
We had an outstanding tour of Montevideo with Dario. He truly loves his city and went above and beyond to share it with us — even spending more time than we paid for so we could experience all the highlights. Dario was kind, professional, and deeply knowledgeable, walking us through historic sites before driving us to areas too far to reach on foot. When we mentioned our curiosity about mate, he actually returned the next day to give us a full demonstration and tasting — a wonderful personal touch that showed how much he cares about his guests. If you book with Dario, be clear about your interests and priorities — he’ll tailor the experience perfectly to you. It’s the best way to make the most of his expertise and passion for Montevideo.
Dario was incredible. My wife and I are fortunate to have taken day tours with Viator and/or the other big company in 15 cities across 12 countries, and Dario was the best. Friendly, knowledgeable, funny, and an all around expert on the true history of Montevideo. He picked us up on time, paid extra care to my 2 year old and wife because it was 95 degrees, so he brought lots of water bottles on ice. He knew so much history, both told, and untold, and extended the tour without asking. Dario knew how to navigate the city, frequently ran into people around town that he knew, further solidifying that he is an expert in his field, and he gave us a BOOK about Uruguay, for free. That was incredible. No tour guides do that. Montevideo is a great city, underrated in my opinion, and we would not have experienced the true city without him. We loved every minute, and it was 95 degrees! That says a lot about Dario and his ability to make a tour wonderful. I would highly recommend using Dario, whether with just friends, family, or even when traveling with a 2 year old all the way from California, like we were. I happened to lose my phone at the hotel hours after the tour, and I asked him to resend me photos via Whats App because I lost them all. Dario offered to drive to the hotel and look for the phone. A truly kind man, with great knowledge, of a city that deserves a visit from any traveler who values history, and wants to see the cooler parts of South America. Thanks so much Dario, we truly appreciated your time, attention, and care to your craft. You are a master.
We were delighted to have had Dario as our tour guide in Montevideo. He has a deep knowledge of the history of his country and is very friendly and funny. Highly recommended.
We were 4 friends doing a Trip to Uruguay last March, and thanks to Dario we enjoy our stay in the country for 7 days... I would like to recommend Dario, he is an excellent guide, friendly and very knowledgeable of the area. He also knows the history of Uruguay and shows a lot of passion for it. We visit places to know the culture and traditions of the uruguayans. I'm plannig to come back soon with more friends....
I was surprised by Darío's punctuality and kindness. I recommend it 100%.
Darío is super kind, punctual, warm, and generous with his time. Friends from abroad came to visit, and although I am from Montevideo, I did not have time to choose the places, make a route map, find out schedules, reservations if applicable, study the relevant information, history of the different places, etc., etc. I wanted them to take away a good impression and a good memory of Montevideo and that is how it was, we had a great time! Very grateful! I recommend it 100%
Darío, the guide, is a professional with deep knowledge about MVD and provides high-quality service. He led a splendid day. We really enjoyed his company. Highly recommended.
My goodness, it was the most spectacular tour I have ever taken in my life. I’m not a big fan of tours, but my boyfriend told me we had to do it because it had been recommended to him. I almost fought with him, I was really FURIOUS, but I was in for a big surprise. I learned so much and had such a great time. 100% recommended. ✨
Excellent guide for his knowledge and kindness in his treatment.
Tremendous experience!! A legend!!
He is an exceptional guide, friendly, friendly, always well disposed, has incredible knowledge of the traditional places to visit, and also takes you to restaurants, bars, museums and fantastic places, which make you feel like a local. He is very generous with his time, as he has no problems in extending the tour and staying several hours after the scheduled end of the tour, and everything he does with a smile, it is really like you arrive in Montevideo and you are greeted by an old friend. Super recommended!!!
A walk in fair measure. Balanced, complete and super pleasant. Dario knows the details that make the difference Recommended to friends.
