The tour was nice. Marcela our tour guide was very knowledgeable and was able to translate information into 3 languages. At times she was speaking very fast and sounded like a tape recording. I would have liked her to share information while the bus was in the road and asked passengers if they had any questions or wanted to learn more about the country. At the last leg of the tour she gave last minute suggestions on what to see and dine but was very quick since she had to do it in 3 languages. She highly recommended one restaurant in Colonia and perhaps she should have shared the “top 3 restaurants” with an overview of food options on their respective menus. Overall very pleased with this trip.
Great full day tour from Montevideo to visit the historic city of Colonia de Sacramento. Marcela was amazing in discussing the history of the city including its founding and connection between Spain and Portugal. A great day visiting this city that I recommend to anyone wanted to visit Uruguay.
This was such an enjoyable trip. Andrea was a great tour guide! She translated the entire tour in English for us. The town is very interesting and so much history to explore.
Gonzalo is the best driver and guide we could have had. We love the trip and getting to know the colonial city of the sacrament. We'll definitely come back.
Marcela was the guide. Her English is excellent and she was a fantastic guide going above and beyond as a guide.
I thought it was an excellent tour, well worth the money. The majority of passengers were Brazilian so the majority of the explanation was in Portuguese. The tour guide Andrea repeated many things in English but not everything. The longest stop (half hour tour then 2 hours on our own) was in Old Town of Colonia and it was great. We also stopped at the Plaza de Torros and the Colonia letters sign as well. Heading into Colonia we also stopped at a cheese shop and museum with a Guinness world record collection of pencils and pins. There was some trouble with the bus but they resolved it efficiently and it did not disrupt our day. For $60 USD, I thought it was an great value and a great day.
Our trip to Colonia was great. Andrea was fully bilingual, courteous, knowledgeable and very nice. They were always on time. We had plenty of time to look around and she took us to the main attractions.
I booked this tour expecting a proper guided experience to Colonia del Sacramento, with comfortable transportation and a knowledgeable guide who could bring the history of the place to life. Unfortunately, it fell far short. We were squeezed into a small sedan with two other tourists. I had to sit in the middle seat in the back for over two hours each way, which was quite uncomfortable and not what I would expect from a tour advertised this way. The guiding itself was also lacking. There was very little historical context provided throughout the day, and some of the information we did receive was incorrect; for example, the guide pointed to a Portuguese coat of arms and identified it as Spanish. We also spent surprisingly little time actually exploring Colonia. Instead, a disproportionate amount of time, over an hour, was spent at lunch, with the guide lingering long after everyone had finished, cutting further into what could have been time to walk around and learn more about the city. Overall, this experience felt less like a guided tour and more like a glorified taxi ride to and from Colonia. I would not recommend it to anyone looking for an informative or comfortable tour experience.
Andrea gave an excellent tour and her experience in education really helped us all learn about Uruguay!
Our guide was excellent, set the ground rules up front. Everyone was punctual which helped with the experience. Drive there broken up with a few stops and clean rest rooms. Non stop trip back but our guide would have obliged with a stop if asked.
Excelente experience, from beggining to END
Ricardo is a wonderful guide - friendly, keeps the group on time and clearly explains all information (his English and Spanish are excellent and he’s a native Portuguese speaker). This is really just a guided bus ride to and from Colonia from Montevideo, but it is a comfortable bus (w/a bathroom!), there are rest stop breaks, and Ricardo explains things along the way. And gives guided Colonia tour.
Not really as advertised. Supposed to spend 4 hours in historic old town and we only got 2 hours. The van was overcrowded and people were very uncomfortable. The guide was translating between several languages so it was impossible to follow and when he wasn’t speaking he played the radio incredibly loud. Very disappointing.
Orlando was a great guide. Lots of commentary and great suggestions. Mastertourismo was able to accommodate dropping us at the Colonia port to grab ferry back to Buenes Aires.
Nice trip. Gave what it offered, except that I requested Spanish guide and we were place on a tour for Portuguese speakers. The guide did his best to accommodate us but it would have been better if had a Spanish or English speaking guide. We recommend the tour and guide.
Air conditioning on bus didn’t work well. Could not understand the very fast commentary by the guide. Not much to do in Colonia, other than eat and shop.
Great Tour , Ricardo our Tour guide was excellent with his interaction with the group and knowledge of Uruguay and overall updates for Hotel pick-ups
I had a confirmed booking with hotel pickup scheduled between 8–9am. I waited the entire time. No one showed up. I messaged them through the chat and received no response, then tried calling the phone number in the confirmation email, which did not work. At 9.45am, they contacted me to say they could not find my booking and therefore did not pick me up. This is completely unacceptable. Due to their poor organisation and lack of communication, I missed the tour entirely. One of the worst tour experiences I have had.
It is one of the worst experiences. They said to wait at the hotel at 8am. I waited till 9.30am. Their contact number or Viator app contact did not even work. My hotel has tried to keep calling, they said they never get the order. I have not experienced it with other Viator tours! This is the first one, avoid this tour company at all costs!
This was the worst tour I’ve ever paid for. We were picked up from the port 30 minutes later than we had been told. There were three other groups on the tour, some who had been picked up in Montevideo. Then, there was confusion about the schedule and lunch, which was not easily resolved by the guide, who was not comfortable communicating (outside of the general talk track) in English. The tour around the old city was dull and lacked energy. There was no storytelling and my entire group was disengaged. The guide even mentioned politics and religion, among a mixed group, angering some. Would not recommend at all. We would have been better off wandering around on our own.
The town is definitely worth visiting. Getting to and from Colonia del Sacramento takes a lot of time.
Took a tour through our hotel, the Radisson, and enjoyed the experience. But I think any visit to the Mexican colonial Pueblo Magico would have been similar.. enjoyed visiting the Swiss hotel on the way. I don’t believe the 75.00 dollar tour cost was worth it..
We had a great time on the tour. Our tour guide Ricardo Costa was very personable and friendly, and he gave great information during the tour. It was also nice to see the northern part of the city, which is outside the colonial area. Pick-up time at hotel was prompt. Highly recommend!
Our guide, Gasalvo, was wonderful! He provided general information about uraguay and then explained the origins and sights of Colonia del Sacramento.
Ricardo Costa was a great guide and gave us a lot of interesting information about this site that was full of history and culture. I highly recommend it.
I spent the day learning more about the beautiful country of Uruguay on this trip to Colonia del Sacramento. Gonzalo was a thoughtful and thorough guide for the day. I was fortunate enough to spend the day on an intimate English speaking tour with two others and our guide. On the 2+ hour journey to Colonial, Gonzalo spent time telling us about the history of Uruguay’s origins, commerce, and interesting cultural influences. He was conscientious of our needs, consistently checking in on our comfort and safety when maneuvering throughout the various stops. He was generous with his time and patient with our questions answering each one. We stopped first at a collection museum with a Guinness record holding amount of pencils as well as key chains, perfume bottle and various oddities. On site was also cheese, chutney, and jam production which we were encouraged to sample- delicious! We continued to old town Colonia and learned of the 33 palms planted along the road to welcome an ancient king. We arrived in the city and spent time learning of the 7 take overs of the strategic outpost between the Portuguese and Spanish along with other historical tidbits. We had several choices for lunch and selected one with a rooftop view of the water. Overall a beautiful day with a wonderful guide. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for an engaging day tour. Be prepared as it is 10 hours but well worth the insight gained from spending time learning if the history and beauty of Uruguay.
Great tour. Ricardo is an excellent tour guide in several languages. Just be ready for a long van ride.
Colonia del Sacramento is a charming town that is very walkable and beautiful. GONSALVO was a fabulous guide
Great experience visiting la sagrada colonia del sacramento. The tour guide Rovilson is excellent, extremely knowledgeable of the history of the city, and very accommodating and welcoming. Definitely recommend the tour.
Loved this tour! I didn’t want to rent a car so this was a great way to see Colonia Del Sacramento. The city has a rich history, very walkable, lots of restaurants and beautiful river views. (The river is the widest in the world so looks more like you are on the shores of a bay!)
It was a well organized tour. Colonia del sacremento is nice little cozy town with a bit of history as well as very well preserved city. Gonzalo, was very helpful guide. While english is not his native language, he made all attempts to explain things. Overall, time was well spent.
Gonzalo was an amazing guide! Great information on the drive, friendly and a great tour in Colonia. He gave suggestions for lunch and continued with information about history and cultureon the drive back to Montevideo. Super nice and would highly recommend this tour and Gonzalo as the guide.
This tour was awesome. Gonzalo was a great guide, who shared lots of information on the drive and provided history during the guided walking through Colonia. He was friendly and skilled at sharing both in Spanish and English throughout the day as our small group had a mix of nationalities. He was attentive to personal needs, offering bathroom breaks as needed, shared suggestions for lunch and pointed out interesting sites on the drive back to Montevideo as well. The day was about 11 hours long so he was a very skilled driver and guide. I loved the small group experience and highly recommend this tour.
Ricardo was an excellent guide. He gave us a lot of information on the history, as well as general tips for travelling in Uruguay. The communication on tour and also pre tour was perfect. The tour had a good blend of guided moments and free time
Lovely trip to a beautiful town. Good guide (Marcela). Her explanations were very succinct. The stops along the way were appropriate and fun.
This was a very informative and fun trip. The van ride was smooth, Marcela our guide was personable and informed, and Colonia is gorgeous.
Marcella and our driver was fabulous. She was so entertaining and knowledgeable. We had a fantastic day visiting Colonial 👍🏻
Truly amazing experience. Marcela and Ángel were knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. They were extra accommodating of my aunt and uncle and made the tour extra special with their recommendations. They deserve lots of recognition. Thank you so much!
Overall, it was a great day. Please note that it is a 2.5 h bus ride from Montevideo to Colonia, but if you are looking for something nice to do, this was a great tour of the city and countryside. Our guide was Marcela, and she did an excellent job communicating the information in three languages on the tour. She was very kind and looked out for her guests. Overall, it was great to learn so much about this interesting city.
If you love learning about history, definitely book this tour! Uruguay is my favorite country in South America! Also, they were amazing and dropped me off at the ferry. Make sure Ricardo is your guide!
We really enjoyed our trip to Colonia. Rolvinson was an excellent guide, knowledgable, friendly and entertaining. A great asset. Our driver was also excellent, the drive was smooth and safe.
This trip was really good, Robinson our guide, was amazing, very friendly, funny and share with us a lot of history of Uruguay and the world. If you have a day free in Montevideo, this trip is a must!
Marcela was a brilliant guide. Very friendly and spoke great English. This 9 hour tour to Colonia was well organised, not rushed and overall I felt it was very good value for money.
Great tour, charming little city full of cafes, outdoor charm, lovely views. Or driver Ankle, and our guide Marcella were wonderful
Marcella was a great guide and Angel a competent driver. It was a lovely trip to Colonia. But it was unnecessary to stop at the shop/ so-called museum - a waste of time.
Marcelo was a great guide who worked hard to serve her Spanish, Portuguese and English clients. It was a very pleasant trip.
Fantastic day trip to Colonia! Our guide Marcella was incredibly knowledgeable and brought the historic sites to life with her engaging commentary. Special thanks also to our driver Dramido for his safe driving throughout the journey. Highly recommended experience!
Excellent guide in Marcela, nice driver Romario. Experience for the trip with master tourismo was very good. Colonia itself is okay, nothing great but Master tourismo made is good.
Ricardo Costa is one of the very best guides indeed !! He was polite, on time and informative. He was personable. We enjoyed the tour very much. Maybe, as a suggestion, a stop at a higher quality craft souvignier place as it seems the crafts in the old city are a bit lower quality.
