We liked the whole visit at the Acetaia! We were welcomed by the guide, the owner and her mother, which made the experience truly special for a place like this. Their hospitality was incredible. The tour guide's enthusiasm and knowledge were amazing— she explained everything in great detail about the region and the balsamic vinegar making process right in the attic of the Acetaia, surrounded by 800 barrels, the oldest of which is over 70 years old. And they organized everything only for two of us on a Sunday afternoon. The balsamic vinegars we tried during the tasting were outstanding, as were the other products made with balsamic vinegar (like the strawberry jam). I highly recommend a visit to everyone for the atmosphere of the place, the warmth and hospitality of the people there, and the extraordinary flavors!
This experience was FANTASTIC. Very thorough appreciation and explanation of the balsamic vinegar production. We loved the little cake and coffee at the beginning too. The tasting was extensive and delicious, but no pressure to buy anything (which we did in great number!). The family and staff were exceptionally kind and helped us out with transportation in a crisis. Cannot recommend enough!
The tour provides an excellent overview of how balsamic vinegar is produced, and I learned several things I hadn’t known before — including the surprising fact that heat plays a more important role than cold temperatures in the aging process. Seeing the rows of aging barrels was genuinely fascinating and added authenticity to the experience. However, the conclusion of the tour shifts noticeably toward product sales, and the pricing did not feel meaningfully lower than what one might find at other retail outlets. I would have expected a clear cost advantage when purchasing directly from the producer, but that wasn’t the case. Another point worth noting is that Viator does not clearly explain the logistics of getting to the venue. It is a long countryside drive, and in our situation — staying in Reggio Emilia — it took about 45 minutes. Even from Modena, the trip would be roughly 20 minutes. Fortunately, we had access to a car, so the journey was manageable. Had we needed to rely on a taxi or rideshare, it would have been quite expensive. On a positive note, the family running the operation is warm and welcoming, and the complimentary coffee and pastries were a thoughtful touch that added to the hospitality
perfetto, i highly invite to do this tour
Wonderful tour. Sophia and staff are extremely warm and friendly. Small production balsamic filled with passion from a family owned and operated business. My wife and I thoughly enjoyed the education and hospitality. We wish you continued success.
A lovely drive to the countryside. Gracious hosts. Beautiful garden. Thorough and detailed tour of their operation. Pleasantly relaxing. Delicious products!
Authentic familly business, barrels as old as centuries ago, very friendly staff.
Visited Acetaia Malagoli near Modena and had a fantastic experience. We were warmly welcomed by Domenica and another lovely guide, who walked us through the barrels, explained the production process, and made the whole tour engaging and easy to follow. The tasting was a highlight—getting to try different ages of traditional balsamic vinegar really showed the depth and craftsmanship behind it. You can feel the passion and tradition in every step. A genuine, authentic experience I’d absolutely recommend if you’re in the area.
Upon arrival we knew we were in for an exceptional experience, and it surpassed our expectations! 5🌟
We attended the balsamic tour and tasting, and stayed the night. The tour was a lot of fun. Our room was excellent - spacious, well-appointed and sparkling clean. Breakfast was excellent as well. And excellent value all around. Thank you Sophia and staff! The 4 of us had a wonderful experience.
Wonderfull explanation of the process and history of making Balsamic Viniger. The tasting of different kinds of Balsamic was excellent. It was a good experiance.
This was a last minute tour as we wanted to do something different in the area of Modena, Italy. This is well worth the trip and was one of our highlights of Italy. Sofia and her family were probably the nicest people we met in Italy. They allowed us to book a last minute tour since we had just got in from Naples and we were only there for the Ferrari half marathon the next day, we had not eaten and offered us some food which tasted great. She spoke amazing english. The tour was wonderful and informative but was not boring at all. If I had met them before and known about their BnB I would have stayed there instead. Over great tour and would definitely recommend.
Very interesting , guide was very passionate / knowledgeable and friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves !
We absolutely loved this. We learned so much!!!! Beautiful property and such sweet staff. Definitely recommend this tour. It was such a unique experience.
This was an awesome tour, the acetaia was so beautiful and I really learned a lot about both the history and the production of balsamic. Plus Elena was so knowledgeable and friendly and helped make this an awesome experience. I'd definitely recommend this tour to anyone who loves balsamic or wants to learn more about the history and culture of the area!
This was a very special and unique experience - it was so much fun and the host and product were remarakable.
This mini tour was such an eye opener for how balsamic is produced. It gives a new meaning and appreciation for how expensive good balsamic is! I basically had a private tour and Elena was very knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend this so you too can appreciate how quality balsamic is made.
THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! I say this being a family that stayed there for 8 days, with the smell of balsamic coming from above us in the attic, but really this is a GREAT tour. Alessia was our guide and she is so informative and knows so much and is funny and helpful. The entire family is the greatest. I really can't give this place enough stars. The experience is amazing and I will never eat balsamic the same again. We bought a ton of bottles to bring home. what a great gift for friends who couldn't experience what we did first hand. Even the cheapest bottle, about $10 which Barbara says "oh that is for salad" meaning its not the super stuff, is 10000x better than any balsamic you buy at the store. I wish I had bought even more than I did. I have used it every day since I have been home.
We spent a very interesting morning getting a complete understanding of the traditional method of making balsamic vinegar. Sofia was a very warm and knowledgeable host.
The host was super knowledgeable and nice! They helped me with transportation booking as well. I’ve learned the whole history and the way of production of Balsamic vinegar. We also got the chance to taste all different kinds of Balsamic vinegar. The Acetaia is in a quiet and peaceful place. Definitely recommend!
Our guide was so great, very personable, knowledgeable and helpful. She was one of the best we have had her in Italy.
Laura was a fabulous guide through everything balsamic. We met the owner, Barbara as she was giving a cooking class. This location is also a bed and breakfast which I wish we would have known ahead of time because we definitely would have stayed! This tour is highly recommended!
The guide was great, very friendly and informative. The tour was very small, which let us ask a lot of questions. The balsamic vinegar was excellent and well worth the trip to Modeno.
I wish I can bring more people to this experience. I came to this Acetaia knowing little of balsamic and leaving with an immense appreciation for the tradition and stories that make up Castelfranco Emilia and Modena. You gain a respect for the love that goes into producing balsamic. I was lucky to have been the only one booked that day and got a one on one experience with the owner Barbara who was very hospitable. She immediately welcomed me into her home and as soon as she was ready, brought me up to her Acetaia where I was met by the enthralling smell of the vinegar and the rows of barrels. She explained the history and stories that came with barrels. I honestly cannot look at balsamic vinegar the same way again. Barbara took the time and made sure I wasn’t left with any questions. After spending time in the Acetaia, we went to the shop where I got to taste the different vinegars and truly understood why it was worth learning what goes behind making true balsamic. I ended up buying a bottle which was reasonably priced. Not everyday you can buy something from someone with a product made by their own hands. A bit of information: the property is about a 10 min. drive from the Castelfranco Emilia station. Sofia was able to arrange transportation for me. I ended up paying about 30 euros going to and from which was reasonable, but it’s surely accessible if you have your own vehicle. I also thought being late was a problem since the trains the day of were having delays. I still made it in time, but Sofia is accessible through email so I had no problems.
Very interesting tasting and tour. Highly recommend. We learned a lot about this old tradition and how to tell which product is the right one and not industrial. 🙂
We stumbled upon this activity after tasting some of the most wonderful balsamic at the cheese factory. We didn't have a booking but Barbara was more than accomodating to let us in when we arrived at her gate and into her home. We learnt some very interesting histroy of the house, her family and of course what we were there for.. the vinegar. We were blown away by the tradition and history involved as well as the sheer volume of barrels stored in her attic. We would love to go back one day for a cooking class as Barbara was so friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. We were so pleased that we stopped here on our drive from Modena to Parma.
We were early, and Barbara greeted us with a smile, and gave us a very awesome overview & tour. Excellent information and tasting.
now i know what balsamic vinegar is. very nice place and very pleasant people. good for children's .
Lovely local balsamic vinegar manufacturer. Great tour, learned a lot. Adorable farm house and a great guide. We came from Modena and it wasn’t too far away. Totally worth it. And the snacks are off the hook delicious.
Amazing experience!!! We had today a great journey with Sofia! She explains us all about the aceito di Modena DOP and IGP! She is very nice and take the time to explain everything. We enjoyed every moment and are very great full. She also helped us organize the trip with the taxi from Modena to their place We totally recommend you to take this experience.
Dear Tripadvisor community, If you are looking to do a tour of an Acetaia while you are in Modena look no further than Acetaia Malagoli. The place itself is so authentic to its roots, Sofia explains everything that needs to be known about Modenese traditions and the importance of Aceto Balsamico to the local culture. Honestly, it was the best experience I have done in Modena.
Sofia was a delightful host and her passion for her product and the art of its production was palpable. The surroundings were absolutely beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
We were welcomed by the lovely Barbara, who shared stories and traditions with us, showing us how her balsamic is made, and letting us taste her products. It was amazing to see the balsamic in all the barrels. We were in awe, learned so much, and Barbara made us feel incredibly welcome! We cannot wait to return!
A tour in this Acetaia should not be missed. Beautifully located estate with a large garden for relaxation. During the approximately 90-minute tour of the facility, one learns everything important about the history, tradition, and production of Aceto and the various Aceti from Modena, which can then be tasted and purchased at the end. Very nice reception and super friendly staff. Absolutely recommended!
Guided tour and tasting of balsamic aceto with Elena, unbeatable. The explanation Elena gave us in English was very pleasant and well understood. She made the tasting very pleasant with her comments and contributions. Very good homemade pasta. Grazie!
