We had the absolute pleasure of touring Milan with Marco, and he was incredible! In just three hours, he brought the city to life with his deep knowledge, warm personality, and endless stories. Our visit to the Duomo was fascinating thanks to his insights, and he even treated us to a gelato tasting along the way. Beyond the main sites, Marco shared countless recommendations and hidden gems that made us feel like we were experiencing the “real” Milan. Truly one of the best guides we’ve ever had—highly recommend!

Itinerary
Piazza Mercanti is a captivating slice of Milan’s medieval past, tucked away from the modern hustle. Surrounded by historic buildings and ancient arcades, this square once served as the heart of the city’s commercial life. It’s a peaceful, almost timeless spot where you can soak in Milan’s rich history, from the stunning Palazzo della Ragione to the medieval Torre dei Cenci. With its charming atmosphere, Piazza Mercanti feels like stepping back in time, offering a serene escape into Milan’s roots amidst the urban pulse
Piazza del Duomo is Milan’s beating heart — a grand, open space where locals and visitors gather under the gaze of one of the most iconic cathedrals in the world. The Duomo, with its forest of spires and delicate marble lacework, looks more like a dream than a building. It took nearly six centuries to complete and still manages to take your breath away. From the square, you can admire the golden Madonnina on top, watch the light play on the white marble, and soak in the energy of the city — all without stepping inside
Step into Milan's iconic Galleria, where history meets high fashion. A stunning blend of elegant architecture, luxury boutiques, and timeless charm – the perfect spot to shop, sip, and soak in the city's chic vibe.
The middle finger sculpture in Piazza Affari, right in the heart of Milan's financial district, is an artwork by middle finger artist Maurizio Cattelan. It’s a provocative piece, meant to challenge the power structures and offer a critical commentary on the financial and political systems that dominate the area. While some might interpret it as an expression of disdain or defiance, others could see it as a form of rebellious love—pointing out the flaws and contradictions of the system, perhaps in an effort to spark conversation and reflection. It's definitely not just hate; it's art that challenges, questions, and opens the door to interpretation. Cattelan is known for this kind of boundary-pushing work!
The Cinque Vie area is Milan’s hidden gem, a labyrinth of ancient, winding streets where history and cool converge. Steeped in mystery, this charming district is full of narrow alleys, medieval buildings, and boutique shops that capture the city’s timeless elegance. It’s the perfect spot for those who want to discover Milan’s secret side, away from the bustling crowds, where every corner tells a story of the city’s rich past and vibrant present.
The Roman ruins along Via Brisa offer a fascinating glimpse into Milan's ancient past, tucked away in the heart of the city. This quiet street is home to remnants of Roman walls, providing a stark contrast to the modern surroundings. The ruins are part of Milan’s ancient defensive structures, once guarding the city during the Roman Empire. Today, they serve as an intriguing historical backdrop, inviting curious wanderers to explore Milan’s roots and appreciate the layers of history hidden beneath its modern façade. It’s a spot where past and present beautifully collide.
San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore, often called Milan's "Sistine Chapel," is a hidden masterpiece in the heart of the city. Built between 1503 and 1518, this 16th-century church was part of the Monastero Maggiore, Milan’s most important Benedictine convent for noble women. The church was designed with two distinct areas: one for the nuns, separated by a dividing wall, and one for the lay faithful. This separation remained until 1794

Marco was great! Super informative! We learned so much about Milan! Very well worth it! He even shared great recommendations for dinner and drinks afterwards!
This was just the tour for us! My husband has a broken foot and is in a wheelchair so this tour, being a short distance on level ground was perfect. We only had a couple of hours in Milan and Marco was very knowledgeable on the historical points as well as the "heart" of the Milanese people. It's impossible to see the whole of Milan in just 2 hours, but Marco's tour gave us some of the main landmark sights with excellent commentary in English.
Marco is a wonderful tour guide!! So well-informed, respectful and punctual. We had a great afternoon, and learned so much! Thank you!
Simone was a fantastic guide. He has a vast knowledge of Milan / Italian history and made the tour fun without rushing. We saw tons of amazing things that we would never have found or learned about without him.
Simon and Julia were great guides and provided great recommendations! They were able to show me some lesser known areas and provide really interesting facts.
Marco is truly an exceptional tour guide!! He grew ip in Milan and demonstrates his love for the culture, art, history, etc through his enthusiasm and knowledge! We would highly recommend him.
Our guide Marco was so knowledgeable about everything to do with the history of Milan. He never rushed us and concentrated on all the parts of the city which we were interested in. Very informative and such a pleasant manner. When we return to Milan I shall definitely ask for Marco. Susan & Chris.
Really enjoyed my tour with Marco, he provided great information and took us to interesting locations in Milan, I recommend this tour!
This was a great experience and Simon, our guide, was very knowledgeable and a very nice chap. We saw lots of interesting sights which we would never have found on our own. We particularly liked the ancient church we visited which was beautiful inside and decorated with paintings done by Leonardo da Vinci’s students and also the secret whispering wall in the old town square. We also got a recommendation for where to find the best carbonara in Milan which was absolutely fantastic!
A really interesting tour with a flexible and friendly service. Marco was a fantastic guide and gave us a great overview of the history and architecture of Milan.
Marco was an amazing guide. He brought us to places he knew very well and we would never have visited on our own. I would recommend this tour to any visitors to Milan
Amazing tour. Our tour guide Simon was great. We saw some amazing sites and learned loads from a Milanese local. I would recommend.
As first time in Milan, this is a great walking tour to see the great architectural of the city around Duomo and fashion district as well. Marco has a good knowledge of the city, he takes you to see some hidden courtyard and churches makes you experience a local lifestyle! Highly recommended!
Simon was an amazing tour guide, gave us all the little secrets of the city that really made the tour special
Simon was so friendly, super informative and learned so much more about Milan than you would from any other tour guides in the city
Simon was excellent and very detailed throughout the tour. I had a really good time and thoroughly enjoyed it! He is highly recommended.
He tour guide was very knowledgeable and answered to all our questions. The tour was great and very different from all things we’ve seen before. We recommend to everyone.
Simon was amazing. Very knowledgeable. Great time spent can’t have asked for a better tour of the city
We did the walking tour with Simone and we had a great time, lot of nice spots and great stories ! Would recommend it
A great tour full of interesting facts about Milan. Beatrice was really fun, informative and took us to lots of great spots stopping and giving us enough time for photos at each.
I had been to Milan several times but Beatrice showed me an unknown city, telling interesting anectotes and taking me to places I never knew existed before. She is knowledgeable and fun. I highly recommend her company if you want to experience a Milan like no other.
Tour was definitely worth it as it was full of facts I wouldn't have otherwise known. Ice cream at the end is a must, one of the best I have had so far.
We really enjoyed our tour with Nico, he was very knowledgeable about Milan and nicely mixed old and new angles of the city. His English was excellent. One of the best tours we have done in recent years.
We had an amazing tour given by Beatrice. She shows us around and showed things that are well known in Milan but also secret things with different stories. She also set down with us after the tour to give us tips, where to eat, shop and what else to see. Really recommend this tour if you want to see the city but also would like to see a bit more than just the highlights.
Being a solo traveller, I like to do walking tours. Milan is pretty quiet right now and so I thought it might be a nice time do one. And I'm glad I did! Bea was a really good guide, funny and informative and able to answer all my questions! We walked around to a few of the main spots of course but Bea also showed the lesser knows places along with its history. Generally, Milan is not the biggest city and so a walking tour is the ideal way to get around. I would definitely recommend trying this one if you're in town!
A discovery of the secret side of Milan. Very interesting, very prepared guides that shows not very known parts of the city, telling story that not many people know.
Amazing experience with an awesome tour guide. The tour takes you to the highlights of Milan and the best part, ITS FREE
I met the guide in a cafe as arranged on the email link. Really friendly guide..great group of people. Interesting tour around the unseen parts of Milan with great information about some of the monuments and sights. Would definitely recommend.
it was much better than we were expecting. The meeting point with a drinks and cakes to start with the good mood and then the walk around Milan. It covered so many interesting points and guide (Greg) was so good and passionate in describing each corner and plenty tips and curiosities. It is such a pleasure to see people so dedicated and at the end it was a pleasure to give a nice "tip" for him. It is amazing they can run this service and you just pay at the end if you liked it... and believe me they were not even too pushy. Really a great experience to recommend.
Getting to know Milan and it’s history it was definitely worth getting on the free walking tour. I had the blast to hear informative knowledge from Greg who’s been living in Milan for 2 years. Starting with a little snack and some water the tour began at the hostel Ostello Bello and ended at the Duomo di Milano. It was a good 2.5 hr tour with a pleasant pace always getting enough time to take pictures. Definitely recommend this tour as a start to explore Milan.
The tour was wonderful, takes you around all important locations. It is led by local, so you will get the best tips where to eat/drink/have fun :)
Great way to see interesting parts of milan minus the tourists. Genuinely interesting facts and information!
Your starts at city centre and goes around the dumo area. I've been to a couple of tours and it was one of the best! I like the quit spots that have been picked. I would enjoy it even more if there was updated facts about Milano or italy- not just historic. Over all Very recommend tour! I will go to more in the future
The tour is amazing! You’ve got to see places in Milan you’ve never heard of and all with super nice detailed informations by the guide. It really surprised me the quality of the tour and it being a free walking tour. Completely recommended! Bea, the founder of FollowMiAround, is super kind and really inspiring! We did the Milan Highlights Tour but next time I’m in Milan I’ll definitely do the other tours! Keep going, people! You are doing an incredible work!!
My guide was Greg. His English was very good and he didn't speak at the speed of light (like many tours I've taken where the guide was not a native English speaker). The information provided was interesting and he was good at taking questions, however the guide was just kind of "meh". He wasn't the cheerful, upbeat type of person you typically encounter as a guide. And for me, personally, his lack of enthusiasm hindered the experience.
Highly recommended. Glad we scheduled the tour for Day 1 in Milan. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and very courteous.
We visited some great places but the accompanying stories, explanations and history were the highlight! Great for getting comfortable in Milan and also for meeting some great people?
Very nice way to discover Milan from the point of view of local people. I did two tours in a day: Secrets of Milan and Highlights. I loved them both, I recommend.
A big thank you to Simone! It was a nice trip to know so much about Milan that I didn’t find in travel blogs.
This was a great tour led by Nico. He was super knowledgable as a local and very personable. However, skip the bar crawl. Not worth the price the price at all. This one felt great for a free walking tour.
Absolutely loved this tour - was a great way to meet people and Beatrice was so knowledgable and so engaging throughout. Would highly recommend as a way to get your bearings around Milan!
Great walking tour. Our guide Nico was nice and passionately shared a lot of interesting historical facts about Milan. Highly recommended!! Dethie
Thank you Gregory for a wonderful tour, covering many of the sights of Milan as well as accompanying information. His communication was clear and cheerful. He led and took care of the group well on a busy Saturday evening, right before Christmas, even managing to give us time for photo ops! Not finding a fault, but I would have liked to hear more about the history of the city and it's demographics, as well as some local food and drink suggestions. We did not continue for the last stop, a gelato shop, so maybe we missed some gastro-pedia there. Would definitely recommend everyone to do this tour early in their visit, to get a good feel of the city.
It was such a nice experience to do this tour, it is a really a great mixture of touristy spots with hidden treasures of Milan! The tour guide (Nico) was super nice and took a lot of time to answer all of our questions, gave us a lot of tips and suggestions for food, tourism, and places that only “locals” would know about... I highly recommend it! :)
I thought that it was a very nice tour, Nico knew the city really well. I am very happy with the tour and will recommend it to my friends.
We had an amazing walk across some of the most important sights of Milan. Nico was super friendly, had a solid historical knowledge and also a lot of individual recommendations for us.
What a great walking tour of Milan. Greg was an informative and personable guide. He had so much to share in only 2 hours. Highly recommend for traveling on a budget....but please don’t forget to tip!
We did the free walking tour with Gregory on a grey afternoon in November and cannot recommend highly enough! The tour is an easy two hours, starting at a hostel not far from Duomo di Milano, and finishes at a decent Gelateria right next to the cathedral. Gregory was knowledgeable, funny and just an all round good bloke. Go book this tour now!
I did the walking tour with Nico and found it really informative not only was it informative but it was interesting and different. You got to find out about the little details that you normally wouldn't realize if you walked around on your own. When I go back to Milan I will definitely do the bar crawl and the other experiences.
