The Naviglio is a canal system in Milan, Italy, comprised of the Naviglio Grande and Naviglio Pavese. A "Porta Ticinese" was already part of the medieval walls of Milan (12th century); the medieval gate is one of the few remnants of the medieval walls that are still in place, and it is located in the same area as the modern "Porta Ticinese", but closer to the city centre (as the medieval walls enclosed a smaller area than the Spanish walls). The current location of the gate (in a plaza that is now called "Piazzale XIV Maggio") was established during the Spanish rule, in the 16th century.

I had a great time on the food tour with Davide! He has a contagious smile and was born and raised in the city so he is able to share history and his connection with local restaurants and shops. The walking location was scenic and exciting, and the food at each stop aimed to showcase different regions of the country, while staying in one neighborhood of Milan. The quantity of food was more than enough for a filling lunchtime meal, including drinks and ending with gelato, and each bite was delicious. Would highly recommend!

Elena was so passionate and a joy to be with! We left full and enjoyed all the additional history/cultural facts we learned alongside the food. Elena also provided great wine bar recs that we went to after the tour and enjoyed greatly. We ended up going to a different location of Il Mannarino (one of the stops on the tour) for a proper dinner and LOVED it.
We had an amazing tour with Elena today. She was fun, super knowledgeable and full of fun and interesting facts about not only food but Milan in general. We were taken to some very special places that we would not have found ourselves. The tour was easy going and unrushed and it was clear Elena has a passion for Milan!

Elena was a great tour guide and introduced us to many wonderful dishes. I had a very fun evening and enjoyed tasting all the delicious food. Not only were there many dishes to try but we had nice portions and plenty of each dish. It was a fun part of town to see, something different from the main tourist areas.

We had a lovely evening with Elena and our tour group totalled 6 people. Elena was bright and engaging with a fountain of knowledge about some of Milan's history. This was our fourth tour with Secret Food Tours and yet again it did not disappoint! Elena was our tour guide, a local in Milan, and she was awesome! She was full of knowledge regarding the history of Milan itself as well as the types of foods that are accessible in the area. After the tour she sent us multiple different recommendations for food, drink and other things to visit while in Milan. Even though the bakery we were supposed to visit was closed, Elena was prepared and took us to great replacement spots. I have a big appetite and even I was full after.
Elena offered a pleasant combination of history, personal experience, and culinary information. Her English was good; she was native to Milano, interacting well with local restauranteurs. The gelato finish was spectacular!

It was excellent, the selection of restaurants, dishes and wine was considered, varied and tasty and gave a real authentic taste of Italy. THIS was an excellent tour (and we’ve done many in 8 weeks of travelling). This was a standout. Davide was an exceptional guide who used his remarkable knowledge of the world to quickly make our group of ten feel comfortable and connected. Do not eat for quite some time before this tour as you will experience many courses, all very flavoursome and well explained regarding their cultural significance and origin. Risotto, arancini, honey baked soft cheese, some surprise dishes (no spoilers - but worth the wait) and finishing off with two desserts (including the tastiest organic gelato). I was too busy enjoying the food to take photos which is an indicator of what a great time we were having. Walk beside one of the canals in Milan (yes, canals in Milan) and discover hidden treasures to revisit. Davide provides recommendations for your stay in Milan and a place to share photos with your group. It was a fabulous way to finish our journey through Europe.

This was a great walking food tour paired with drinks and some history. The guide, Davide, was great and shared knowledge, passion for Milan and good sense of humor. It is an eating tour, not just sampling so our 11:30 time was perfect for early lunch and walk. Small group as well as our group was 7, fun to meet all of them and hear their stories and well as favorite places visited!

We were at the meeting point waiting for our guide, the meeting time.passed we contacted Secret Food Tours by email and whatsapp trying to get an answer. One person said the guide was a few minutes away, the other said the guide had been in an accident (same reason given to the other 1 star reviewer and was no longer able to attend. Took another 30 minutes to get a definitive answer that our tour was cancelled and consequently, our day in Milan was wasted (it was now after 12 noon on a monday). It's a pity, we love food tours and had done a fabulous one with this company in Porto last month.
