Avoid Antica Locanda dei Mercanti at ALL cost. Don't be fooled by the pretty online photos, the glossy marketing materials and the fake 4-stars. It's anything but. Multiple reasons to look for a nearby, modern and more reasonably priced hotel: 1) Nondescript street entrance. Not even the taxi driver could easily locate the main entrance which is located on a grimy side street! 2) once you enter the ground floor of the building (which the hotel shares with multiple other businesses), you are exposed to what could charitably be described as pickle juice aroma. 3) must take stairs to access the main lobby on an upper floor. 4) 1920s-style elevator can barely fit two individuals with no luggage. 5) dated and mosquito-ridden rooms. We left upon arrival and booked a room at a clean, modern and beautiful hotel within walking distance which was actually priced lower than this establishment.

We stayed at this hotel for one night from 20th June 2026 to 21st June 2026. We had a suite for which we paid €443. The positives: Great location (Brera), characterful building, big luxury room, friendly staff. Breakfast OK but not luxury. 3* not 4* or 5* The negatives: The lift was out of action. The "credit card" key on the door didn't work and we had to be given a physical key after 5 minutes of trying. No bathrobes. No hooks to hang towels. On Sunday morning, on "full hot" ,the water in the shower was still only luke warm. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room WiFi signal was weak and intermittent. We used 4G/5G. On Saturday night there was a loud rave in the apartment directly facing our room. Music was incessant. Double glazing helped but a crazy amount of noise. The night before we had been in a cheaper hotel and NONE of these negatives applied. We paid a luxury price. We did not get a luxury experience. Lastly, given the lift, the key and other things, a real luxury hotel would have made a gesture - a bottle of fine wine in the room and an apology note or €100 off the bill or similar. Nothing. I think one must be able to find better for the price we paid.
Truly wonderful hotel. Great room; great staff; great food; excellent location. Caution, the elevator is small and is located up a half-flight of stairs.
I loved this hotel not only because it’s at the heart of the city, but also the service was super great! Staff was super friendly and showed us about the city and highlights.Complimentary breakfast that has so many variety. The room was large and cute, though we had some issues with warm water at night and AC. Overall I would definitely recommend this place
We loved this hotel!! Our hotel room was small but perfect for 2 people. The little patio with all the flowers and plants was so beautiful and we loved the paint on the walls and ceiling, it was so creative! The walls I believe are thin but it was no problem. The ladies working the reception were kind and positive and so friendly! The one who checked us in and out gave us great recommendations of what to see and where to eat. She also helped call us a taxi to get to our train station. It’s not an obvious hotel but is so close to the Duomo and Castello, and Brera with all the neat shops and restaurants. If you like a nice hotel and don’t mind things being different than a chain hotel, this is for you! 10/10 recommend!
