A very easy and efficient way to get the general orientation to downtown Detroit which we wanted to start our visit. The recorded guide's voice was warm and pleasant. The signal (a train whistle) that a new cue was going to start was effective. The ability to read the text of the narration was great. One big improvement would be to make it easier visually to find and resume the place of a stopped narration. We inadvertently missed a description or two because we stopped to do something (cross the street, or have a conversation about something.

Itinerary
This brick-lined street is known as Parker's Alley and it is named after Thomas Parker, a free black man who was one of the city's first black landowners in Detroit.
The Belt is named after the alleyway's location in the former garment district which was shaped like a belt. It is part of a larger project by the Library Street Collective to reimagine underutilized spaces throughout the city.
This park was created in 2004 and is a main hang out in Detroit. It was even named a “Top 10 Public Square” in the USA by USA Today. Not bad for an area that few people felt safe enough walking into 20 years ago.
When it was built in 1928, it was the 4th highest building in the United States and 8th highest in the world. It soars above you like the edge off a cliff with a series of setbacks at the top.
The Guardian building is one of the finest art deco skyscrapers in the United States. It was completed in 1929 and was originally called the Union Trust Building. It also had the rather cute nickname of the Cathedral of Finance.
The sun-like thing on the right is meant to symbolize the rays emanating from God, and the people in his other hand are supposed to represent all human relationships. The Spirit is widely recognized and well-loved and you can find the image all over the city.
oe Louis didn’t just throw his weight around in the boxing ring. He fought against segregation and Jim Crow laws and encouraged young African American men to join the US Army during World War II despite the fact that it was still racially segregated. When he was asked why he did it, he famously replied "Lots of things wrong with America, but Hitler ain't going to fix them."

Reviews
We enjoyed the walking tour and learned a lot about Detroit’s history and the many landmarks along the way. The guide was knowledgeable, and we appreciated the interesting facts and stories shared throughout the tour. However, we felt that too much of the commentary focused on the city’s negative past. While it’s important to acknowledge Detroit’s history, much of what was discussed was from over 20 years ago and didn’t reflect the city’s remarkable revitalization and what it has become today. We would have enjoyed hearing more about Detroit’s current growth, successes, and vibrant culture to provide a more balanced perspective.
Really fun way to jump into seeing detroit! Loved being able to do it ourselves and pause and pick back up as we wanted.
Easy to navigate through the city and pointed out some unique things I would not have known and understanding of the history of the city
Solid self guided tour. Easy to follow directions, well paced. A good intro to the city to get the lay of the land along with some history and good cultural info.
Fun walking tour of downtown Detroit. Pacing was a little fast but the “pause” button was useful.
Easy to follow ..without it our time will be wasted going anywhere.
This solo walking tour was perfect for us. Very clear and interesting for a first time in Detroit. We stayed at the hotel Fort Pontchartrain and the tour was close to that location. We loved starting with a Buddy’s pizza and being able to stop the audio and enjoy the locations and re-listen if we missed something or got slightly lost. The tour narrator and the material was very interesting. Would recommend this tour in a heartbeat especially since our in person tour that I had pre booked was cancelled because of the weather. This was much easier than trying to hear and keep track of a group too. Very grateful for this option on our thanksgiving trip.
Detroit has been reviving itself very nicely. While not comprehensive, this walking tour does a nice job of hitting some of the key highlights.
Tour was easy to access and "map" button helped with orientation. Nice you could pause if you wanted more time or to stop to shop or for coffee. Despite preparations for the marathon we were able to navigate around and see all the stops with no problem. I'll definitely check our Walkntours when I travel to other places.
This was the perfect tour to get a little history about the city in under an hour. Definitely worth the time and $.
wow, so glad I stumbled upon this walking tour. What a great way to get to know Detroit. It was my first time in the Motor City and this walking tour was just perfect. Super easy to follow. The narrator had a very pleasant voice. It's a perfect 10.
For a low-tech person, it was difficult to follow all the downloading that was needed. However, once it was finally accessed after downloading several apps it was a good tour.
This smartphone tour was perfect to get a taste of Detroit. It gave insight and info into the important aspects of downtown. We were able to do it on a shorten time since we had to be back to a spot. Would highly recommend
Directions were easy to follow, saw some cool Detroit highlights and being able to “pause” the tour to hang out at each stop was perfect. Interested in doing a tour in my hometown out of curiosity to see what is covered
Easy to understand, directions were excellent and being able to “pause” to linger at certain stops was perfect
We were very happy with this tour, definitely worth $9.95. The directions on how to get to each stop on the tour were very clear and easy to follow. The details given about each stop were very informative and interesting. Would definitely take another tour like this.
Well designed app. Engaging your. Took 1 hour. Great way start to my Detroit visit and orient myself to the city.
Great brief history of so much downtown! The tour was well paced and we could walk comfortably. Good idea to start at Buddy’s pizza!
The tour worked just fine by listening to it on my phone speaker for my wife and I, even in downtown traffic. The tour was mostly architectural but the art deco buildings were just amazing. You could enter several of them in the interiors have been maintained perfectly. The tour included other famous locations in downtown such as Joe Louis's statue. Pro: the directions and narration were perfect. The guide was well informed. The tour is a good way to learn about downtown Detroit which is quite vibrant. Con: The tour was a little short, it only briefly mentioned the Detroit River, for example, when the tour ended near it. The river would be a good stop.
We enjoyed the walk and learn more about Detroit. Stopping app and starting later was a bit cumbersome. Otherwise it was fine.
This was very easy to use... I was able to walk the city at my pace, including stops for cocktails along the way. It took me to areas that I may not have visited on my own, as well as city landmarks that are on everyone's list. Highly recommend!
Great price, discovered some new places and felt it was quite informative. Highly recommend it! Can stop in the middle anytime for a drink, lunch or dinner. Continue where you left off.
Easy to download the App and easy to follow. An enjoyable walking tour at your own pace. Great for families.
Great introductory tour of downtown Detroit. I was very impressed with the Art Deco Guardian Building.
This tour gave us a chance to discover downtown Detroit, we really enjoyed it and were surprised by how nice downtown Detroit is.
I got to see things I would not have discovered on my own. Too bad it wasn't longer! Very easy to follow at my own pace. Price was reasonable, too
The instructions for download and access were thorough and the app was easy to use. However for some reason my husband was not successfully able to purchase/ load the tour so we listened together which was fine. The guide/narrator was pleasant, enthusiastic and provided easy to follow navigation. The walking tour hit highlights and some spots that we would not have found on our own. Overall this was a nice walking tour of Detroit and allows visitors a view of some of the architectural gems, parks and unique places. Would definitely use this tour app again!
I really enjoyed The Cut. I'm not sure I would have found it ony own. Taking the time to scan the QR codes helped me find out about activities that are highly likely to have me returning to Detroit. The only thing I wish was that the Guardian Building had been a part of the tour.
This app tour was easy to use. Well timed and up to date with walking directions. Seemed to realize for example that you couldn’t cross on one side of the street due to construction. Narrator was excellent and we were captivated by Detroit! One suggestion would be that they mention that you can find a people mover stop nearby after the end of the tour, and then take it back to where you started.
I had a friend come in from Europe and I wanted to show him our city and I was thoroughly impressed with the tour. I’m from here, but I also saw things that I have never seen before. It was great!
Could not log in . Would not recognize my email address . fjl@jrp.ca . Total waste of time and $. I suggest you review the process and allow .ca individuals to be able to log in . Were people too.
The statues and Guardian Building were great sights for us! The young men drinking beer and smoking pot with crushed cans around them, music blasting as we tried to enjoy the parks were not comfortable.
The directions were very easy to navigate. I have a hard time walking due to a recent injury but I had no problems with this walking tour. A fun walk thru a beautiful part of the city.
Unfortunately, it rained during the day i was there and I only went to the first locale and I stopped and did other indoor thing instead of doing the walking tour. Really can't rate effectively.
I did this for my daughter and her husband and they loved it. They said your App did a great job of moving them along sound logical order. they both learned things about the city they did not know.
This tour took me into nooks & crannies and beautiful buildings I've never been to before. Easy directions to follow and to stop and start at our leisure - we explored a few stops, like the Christmas shops at Campus Martius and Parkers Alley (definitely go to Bon Bon Bon)
Easy and informative. We were able to pause and continue easily. Learned a lot in an hour or two……………………………………………………..
I thought it was a good tour..I wish they would have walked us full circle in summer way. We were a little lost having to walk back to our starting point without guidance.
We had a great time exploring Detroit. We went back to some of the restaurants later in the day. We learned a great deal and the inside of the Guardian building was our favorite!
An interesting way to learn a little bit more about the city while taking it at your own pace. Thank you! :o).
Took a small group of high school seniors with me. They had a great time, the directions were super easy to follow (even for people like me who are navigationally challenged!) and the history notes added a lot. Highly recommend this if you want to see some of the main sights of the Motor City.
Wonderful , self guided tour. Great way to spend a couple of hours learning about the City. Easy to pause the tour when I needed, and pick back up. Can’t do that with a tour guide!
I love taking pictures, this walking tour was perfect for that! Being able to find "secret" spots was the best! We were able to goninto buildings that we would have never thought to go into. Beautiful things to be seen!!!
A lovely way to spend an hour or two in downtown Detroit. My husband and I really enjoy doing walking tours, and for $7 ea, you can't beat this one!
I enjoyed all the interesting facts, trivial and history given during the entire tour.I also loved the fact that you can take your time and customize the tour to fit your needs.
Good narrative but very difficult to find the streets with their directions could not find part of it sorry...
Quite well-guided at the beginning, but before and after the Guardian Building, the route and commentary no longer match. Considering the short distances, you can easily pack more places and more history into one hour. It was interesting, but it could still improve quite a bit.
Visited Detroit with my son (20) during springbreak. You walk along the highlights of the city centre. Is worth it, nice trip.
