My family of three was looking for a way to experience the Teotihuacan pyramids in a sustainable, authentic way, and Intrepid Urban Adventures certainly delivered. We were glad to make the trip on public transportation -- a great way to engage with and learn about the local culture. Our guide, Edgar, was knowledgable, flexible and kind, and the lunch at the local home was relaxing and low-key. The afternoon even included a stop at a local obsidian workshop for a demonstration from local artisans, which was so interesting, with no pressure to buy anything. The entire excursion felt so much richer than an ordinary check-the-box "tourist" outing -- it felt more like an off-the-beaten path adventure. Thanks, Edgar!

A friend and I took this day tour, and were thrilled with the experience! Our guide, Edgar, was extremely nice and accommodating, and made sure we were safe and comfortable at all times. His sense of humour, and his knowledge of both the ruins and Mexico in general, added great value to our tour. We especially enjoyed travelling by local transportation; it was a chance to learn more about our surroundings and the local culture. Highly recommend!!!
This was an awesome experience! Our guide, Roy, was very friendly, entertaining, and spoke English well. He shared a lot of interesting information. The Pyramids were breathtaking and he made sure we saw the third one which is a trek but well worth it (you are still allowed to climb it). After the pyramids, we went into town for Pulque tasting and to see different types of obsidian art. We then went to another town for a delicious lunch with a local family. It was fun to take public transportation with Roy as that was our preferred method of getting around Mexico City. Highly recommend this experience!
Went on May 9th to see Teotihuacan, and I happened to be the only guest attending the tour! The trip was super interesting and unconventional, we started by using public transport to go from the city center to a bus hub and then took an overland bus to go straight to the ruins - including some introduction to the surrounding area and vendors / musicians live on the bus :D. Arriving at Teotihuacan it definitely pays to have a knowledgeable guide and I learned a whole lot about the history and culture of the place, including opportunities to look at some in-depth archeology in the attached museum. Notably, we also visited a local shop with produce and the obsidian crafts that played a role in the history of this area. The trip ends with homemade Mexican food at a local home, which was very yummy! My tour guide was super friendly and communicative both in English and Spanish and clearly well informed about Teotihuacan as well as every place along the way! We went back on the bus and I returned to my place with no issues. Would definitely recommend the tour for anybody looking to see Teotihuacan based in Mexico City, this is the coolest way to do it!
An amazing experience! Totally worth it. Our guide was smart, funny and super knowledgeable. Five out of five. 100% recommend to a friend.
We had the most amazing tour guide, Nathan, who was both friendly and very knowledgeable about the history and culture of Mexico. I recommend him highly.
This was the best tour for what we wanted. The tour the tour guides and the experiences after the pyramids were awesome. Loved it all and highly recommend!
Had a great time! Julio is so kind and so obviously passionate about his subject material. It was a memorable, interesting, and lovely day!
This company cancelled our original date, never rescheduled, never contacted us, and didn't answer the phone when we called. In addition, they didn't tell us about the government shutdown that happened the days before. I expect a full refund.
The guide, Jacinto, was very friendly and knowledgeable and responded to us as individuals (there were only two of us on this tour). The excursion, however, finished two hours early: the 'dining experience' was in reality a bowl of Pozele served to us in a kitchen with just ourselves and Jacinto. Not very satisfactory at all and certainly not living up to the description (or other food based 'Urban Adventures' I have done in other parts of the world). Teotihuacun, however, was truly impressive and having Jacinto with us made for an 'easier' trip than navigating our own way on public transport. Visit could perhaps have included some time at the Museo at the pyramid site (but, I am sure, had this been mentioned, Jacinto would have incorporated it into the programme). The "local dinner" was the real con!
We would highly recommend the Theotihuacan day trip & dinner. Our guide, Adriana, was lovely and very knowledgeable- we had a fantastic day!
Ulysses was an excellent guide, calm cool collected and in touch with & knowledgable of the local area because he’s a local, he also speaks excellent English. The tour is well-paced and informative. He offers information of the archeology without any bias - which is important regarding this land. He also offers a non-religious, but spiritual perspective too. There’s a cool little pit stop for local beers before visiting an obsidian craftsman’s home. Although this states “dinner with the locals” we never saw them, & they weren’t introduced to us, but nonetheless at that point in the night everyone in the group is hungry & it was nice to eat a local, quaint meal. We enjoyed the sites, lots of information as well as being able to explore a little further into the local area than you would be able to on your own. I was personally having a rough morning as a solo traveler & this tour brightened my day & was just what I needed to get out of the hustle & bustle of the city.
This was an excellent tour that was much more than a visit to the site of Teotihuacan. Since I was the only person booked for this day day, it was essentially a private tour. My guide, Adriana, was enthusiastic and knowledgeable and I felt very confident traveling with her. In addition to seeing the ancient site, I enjoyed learning about obsidian carving from a local artist. I also learned about the many uses of the agave plant and sampled agave-based beverages. Last but not least, I had an opportunity to dine at the home of a local family. Adriana was a great guide and companion for this very memorable experience.
Warryor was a brilliant tour leader, Teoihuacan is a must if you are visiting Mexico City, great hospitality at every place we visited. Kevin also says it is thought provoking.
Warryor was a great guide, very informative. The activities after the pyramid were also interesting.
Ulysses a.k.a. “Warrior” welcomed me and my girlfriend to Mexico and gave us the best tour ever. Extremely professional and knowledgeable man. I wouldn’t recommend anyone else but Ulysses to learn, live and see the full experience at Teotihuacán. Every part of our day was a new lesson and an adventure. You will get the best for your buck if you book a tour through their own website, urbanAdventures.com. 100% recommended!
From the moment we met, our guide, Ulysses Warryor made my daughter and I feel welcome and ready to engage on this adventure. Warm, personable, and very knowledgeable, Ulysses embodied all that is good in a guide. Tour was great, and Teotihuacan is an amazing site. Wear sunscreen and a hat.
.. and he seemed to have really enjoyed the trip. He talks about it quite fondly and frequently. So I'm compelled to write this review. Also, they introduced him to pozole at dinner and now it's his favorite dish everywhere we go. The guide Andy(I think) spoke good english and helped him throughout the trip. Gracias!
We had a great day yesterday with our guide, Addy, who is not only an expert but made us feel comfortable and at ease. She humored all of our questions not only about the sites but about Mexican culture, and was communicative and knowledgeable. All of the logistics (and there are many) went smoothly and we felt really taken care of. The pyramids and surrounding archeological sites at Teotihuacan are a must see, of course, but without understanding the history through an experienced guide like Addy, they are just buildings to look at. The home visits afterward were a lovely and nourishing end to the day. We enjoyed the tour very much and recommend it!
Traveling through Mexico City solo, I wanted to make friends and explore more of this incredible country in a fun way. I got all of this and more through this tour. My guide, Emmanuel, was extremely welcoming, knowledgable and fun. His passion for history really shined throughout the whole day which made it even more valuable. Everyone in the group got to know each other and we had a blast at Miguel's workshop and the delicious dinner too. I can't recommend this enough! 5 stars!
This was a fantastic trip. Taking local transport added to the experience, this was a great way to rub shoulders with the locals as they went about their day. Teotihuacan should be on your list of places to visit. Not only are the pyramids amazing, visiting local families was also a privilege. Our guide Ulysses was great, knowledgeable and very friendly. Highly recommend.
This trip was excellent. Our guide Rodriguez was so knowledgable, helpful and friendly. He really made the past come alive. These pyramids are a must see if you are in Mexico City. I would reccomend this trip to everyone. Thanks for a great day Urban adventures! Tiffany.
This company was a no show/no call for our 12:45-9:45 Teotihuacan Pyramids Day-Trip & Dinner with Locals tour on December 25. We waited at their specified meeting point with another party of 3 from 12:30 till 1:15 pm. No one showed up. Tried calling them and no response. The Urban Adventure Mexico City tour company has been unreliable, unresponsive, unprofessional and a tourist trap. They were going to charge us $311 for 4 of us. We found out later today from other travelers that an Uber there and back costs only about US $100 and park entrance is less than $4 per person. Another couple said they just took the public transport there and back and it cost them less than $50. Think twice before booking a tour with Urban Adventures Mexico City.
Adrianna and Adran were warm and enthusiastic. Obviously, they enjoy what they do. We learned and experienced so much. The experiences of visiting the local families was a highlight. The host family at the obsidian workshop were warm and informative.
The tour was amazing. Teotihuacan is a must see for every one visiting this part of Mexico. Emmanuel was a great guide, very passionate about history and full of knowledge. I would recommend this tour.
Emmanuel Suarez was our tour guide! And honestly we couldn’t have been in better hands. The tour was wonderful with tons of great information. Our group also was fun and got along very well. Emmanuel went out of his way to help my friend and fellow tour member to retrieve an item she had lost along the way. Highly recommend!
We had an amazing day on this tour with our guide Emmanuel! He was a pleasure to be around and enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge of Mexico, its history and its people. And as a young person he has a good grasp of current events too. Loved the pyramids, loved the onyx artisan, and the local dinner was delicious. The whole tour was very fun and educational and we highly recommend it as well as Emmanuel!
Sad that today was our last day in Mexico City. This week has gone way too fast! Today we took a tour to Teotihuacán. This was our second time there. I am incredibly afraid of heights and I chickened out last year and didn’t climb the temples. I regretted it. This time I overcame my fear and climbed both the temple of the moon and the temple of the sun. It was incredible! I am sure my legs are going to be sore tomorrow. We then we went to a family’s house and they showed us their obsidian work shop and we got to try pulque and mezcal. After that we had dinner at a local family’s home. The food was so good! I have never put salsa in soup, but I will from now on! Lol! It was such a fun day and we had a great group and tour guide (Roo). This definitely won’t be our last time to visit Mexico City! Love it here!
This has been one of the most thoughtful and wonderful tours I've joined while in Mexico. I cannot recommend this experience enough! My tour guide, Warryor, was extremely knowledgeable about the pyramids and the city. He made everyone feel welcomed and answered all of our questions. You could tell he was very passionate about Mexico's history and culture. I definitely recommend having him as your guide! The experience felt very personal. You get to visit a family's shop and pick up beautiful handmade souvenirs, as well as try the drinks they make themselves. Then we had a delicious homemade dinner to end the night. You definitely get an experience that's off the beaten path and worth the value.
From beginning to end this experience was fantastic. Warryor was very knowledgeable, friendly, and made me feel safe navigating local transit. Warryor took time to make sure everyone got great photos. Paying our respects at the top of the pyramid of the sun was beautiful, and learning about agave, obsidian, and local drinks was a special addition. The dinner was delicious!!! I would highly recommend this tour to everyone.
I literally just got back to my airbnb. I had to write this asap .... What a fun day!!! Big credit goes to Julio. He's knowledgeable, passionate about Mexico and funny. I liked that we got to do things more like a local, the buses, the dinner at a locals house (tasty and very filling) we stopped for a happy hour drink tasting... Realistically we got more than a taste.... 5 drinks later and I was tipsy 😂😂😂 overall it's been my best experience so far visiting Mexico city. I highly recommend this tour! And I hope your tour guide is Julio😄 thanks again for an amazing experience Julio:)
We had the greatest time in Teotihuacan with Addy, not only she´s a wonderful person she knows it all. Teotihuacan is such an impressive place and having Addy to explain the history behind made it even more special. The Tour included visiting two locals families. The first place was the house and work shop of Miguel, he and his family were so welcoming. Then we had dinner at the house of the second family (they didnt dine with us), it was delicious We totally recommend the tour!
My boyfriend and I booked a day trip to Teotihuacan through AirBnB experiences and Julio was our tour guide with Urban Adventures. It was our favorite day of our vacation!!! Julio was so knowledgeable and informative, and just a great person to be around! We loved visiting the pyramids and then went to the homes of two local families where we tried different drinks and fruits, visited their obsidian workshop, and had a delicious home-cooked meal. We highly enjoyed our day trip with Julio and want to come back and do all of his tours!
We loved it. Amazing trip. Good people. Very informative. Vehicle was clean with air conditioning. highly recommend
Our guide was Julio who was friendly, knowledgeable and has a real passion for showcasing Mexico to people from around the world. The temples were awe inspiring and the local home visits a great experience.
We began our trip by driving out of the historic district with guides Julio and Brenda. The temples were spectacular and our tour guide Julio gave just enough information to make it interesting and learn about the site, but also gave us plenty of time to explore. We then went to a local family’s home to learn about obsidian and the agave plant, as well as other fruits. We were able to taste mezcal, tequila, pulque and tuna fruit liquor! Lastly, we visited another local family’s home for soup and flautas with homemade guacamole. Everything was delicious! I would definitely recommend this tour!
Excellent trip. Our guide, Ulises, was knowledgeable and courteous. Our transportation vehicle was clean and comfortable. The pace of our tour was just right. After the pyramids we enjoyed a michalota at Camarchelas Bar. Then we visited Miguel’s who educated us about agave, obsidian, pulque, mescal tequila and Liquor de Agave. His homemade pulque was the freshest and cleanest tasting that we ever had! From there we went to another local home for dinner. It was excellent too! We would recommend this trip highly. Pat & Megan
Excellent tour of the ruins, local crafts and dinner with guide Rodrigo. He was very friendly, enthusiastic about the sites and clearly passionate about the facts he was giving. The ruins themselves are very impressive, the local crafts were informative without a push to sell products and the dinner was authentic. A combination of the above factors made the day quite memorable, and I would certainly recommend it to others considering doing it.
We had a wonderful tour with Warryor (Ulysses). His knowledge and the few little extra side shows is what made our experience more memorable. He spoke fluent English and answered plenty of our questions. The family dinner was very tasty in a lovely setting. We would recommend this tour to anyone visiting CDMX.
This tour was incredible! Our guide, Ady, was super knowledgable and really nice. She gave us great advice would the best places to buy gifts and souvenirs. We loved having a private tour. The best part of the trip was meeting the local families and seeing how they make obsidian sculptures and pulque. All of us were blown away by the quality of this tour as well as the fact that the tours are supporting local families.
What an amazing company! Yes the tour of the Teotihuacán pyramids was fun, exciting, and full of information. However, what made this trip go from great to amazing is the fact that you support local families. After visiting the pyramids we headed to Casa Meztli where we met Mr. Miguel Mestiza Tovar. He is a 4th generation obsidian master. To not only have the opportunity to buy real obsidian but also see his personal workshop, explaining step by step how it all works was a true treat. They butter you up with free alcohol (mezcal, pulque, and tequila) and then give you the chance to buy the goods they created. I love that I supported a local family (it made me feel better about all the money I spent at their store as I knew I was supporting their family and most importantly their three lovely dogs.) Followed by this we ate dinner with a different local family. This dinner was an authentic Mexican dinner. It reminded me of my own Grandma and what she would cook for me. Thank you Urban Adventures for completely surpassing my expectations. I am telling all of my friends and family to take a tour with you in whatever city they might find themselves. Adi, shirt for Adriana, was a great tour guide! She spoke fluent English and was incredibly informative on all the sites we visited. Her hospitality also took this tour from great to amazing. I hope to see her on another Urban Adventure as her service was simply outstanding. Thank you for showing us around the pyramids and city. Your passion for your culture and country shone through it all. I can’t wait for next time! Thank you so much for an unforgettable experience!
The groups for the tour are really small, which make the experience more intimate. The guide (Ulysses Warryor) was really knowledgeable and super friendly. Finally, the dinner with the local family was really nice, plus the food was tasty.
So happy we purchased this tour! Victor was the best tour guide ever! You can tell that he's doing his best to entertain and make the guests feel welcome. He provided us with an excellent service and information that locals only know. We can tell that he is really dedicated to his job and we admired him for that. With regards to the tour, all the destinations we've been to were awesome and reflects the real mexican history. We did so much and we can say that we got our money's worth even greater. I would love to bring my friends and family again to mexico and experience this tour! Gracias Victor!
I visited Mexico City for my 30th birthday and we were able to book this tour last minute with Urban Adventures after my morning tour fell through. Our tour guide (whose name I can’t remember) was so friendly and knowledgable - young, funny, long hair and spoke both English and Spanish. We started off meeting at the city’s center near MUMEDI. The meeting point was easy and accessible, then we all jumped in a van and headed to the ruins of Teotihuacan. From the start of the tour, until the very end, we were given lots of useful, interesting information about the temples and the different civilizations that inhabited the nearby regions. We also got the opportunity to climb both the Moon and Sun Pyramid - and the guide was nice enough to take people who didn’t want to walk up the stairs to other parts of the area in the meantime. After that, we were all escorted to a nearby home of a local artist, and given a tour of his craft, and allowed to sample a variety of tequilas. During this time we bought some souvenirs and learned more about local agriculture. Finally, we ended the trip with a homemade meal, and dined on delicious pozole blanco! What a delightful end to a long day! Would highly recommend this company!!!
We had a great day touring Teotihuacan with our guide Jacinto! The ruins and pyramids were amazing and it was great to have an expert on Mexico’s history walking around with us to tell us more about the site. Definitely would recommend this tour for the one of a kind experiences of walking to the neighboring town of San Francisco to learn about agave and try pulque at the home of a local obsidian artisan. The whole thing was so cool and it was just us walking through this sleepy, picturesque town. Our host and his family were warm and welcoming. Then we took a taxi to the home of a woman who served us a delicious homemade dinner and we chatted over beers. Such a great day!!
Ulysses went above and beyond to provide a unique experience for our small group! We wound have missed all of the tiny yet important details that make this place unique and truly magical! The dinner was delicious in a friendly family atmosphere. Highly recommend if you’re in CDMX.
My best friend booked this trip for us as part of my 30th birthday present; we were in CDMX to celebrate the big 3-0. We didn't have much of an itinerary, but Teotihuacan was on our list of must-sees. Our guide, Julio, met us at the rendevouz point and took us to the bus station where we hopped on a local bus to the pyramids. I can't say enough good stuff about both this trip and Julio. He was personable, fun and extremely knowledgeable about the history of Teotihuacan and Mexico overall. I learned a lot from him about the site, including that it was actually built long before the Aztecs - which surprised me. On top of the regular history talk, Julio was very friendly and open about his own life, and inquisitive about our lives back home in Canada. From Teotihuacan, we walked to a local home where they made obsidian crafts, as well as pulque - a traditional alcoholic beverage. I don't drink, but my friend was able to try the pulque and some other liquors and really enjoyed them. We also tried some dried fruits that were awesome. The family were really friendly, and showed us around their home and talked to us about the various businesses they run. Then we made our way to the next home, where we were served an amazing meal. The hosts were so kind and gracious, and were going to be visiting Toronto soon; so we gave them some tips! We headed back to CDMX in a rainstorm, and Julio waited with us until our Uber showed up to take us back to our AirBnB. All in all, an amazing experience we would recommend to anyone! And if you can, request Julio as your guide. You won't be disappointed.
Had a great time at this tour. Adi is a wonderful guide who knows about the history and culture of the place. It was amazing to visit the magnificent pyramids and have someone share stories of the place with us. Trying the local liquors was another highlight of the trip! The dinner with locals was also prepared with a lot of effort, however I expected more from it given the rich food that Mexico has to offer.
We booked this tour because we didn’t want to be on a large bus with lots of other tourists and we liked the idea of having dinner with a local family. We would have appreciated a little more information on how to connect with our guide, but when Julio showed up wearing an Urban Adventures T-shirt and asking for me by name, it all became clear. We were supposed to take a local bus to the major transit station but because the bus was running late and 3 other guests were meeting us at the transit station, Julio grabbed a taxi instead. Once we connected with the other guests, we boarded a large bus for about an hour’s ride to Teotihuacan. We spent about 2 hours at the site of the temples, and Julio was able to provide lots of detailed, historical information. My husband and I were twice the age of the other guests, and Julio accommodated our slightly slower pace and the fact that we didn’t climb to the very top of the Temple of the Sun. We then walked through a local village and to the home of an artist who makes—and sells—obsidian sculptures. After tasting some pulque (which others liked but I hated) and some tequila, we traveled a short distance to another village for our dinner in the home of a local family. We enjoyed our meal, which they had adapted for our vegan, gluten free diet. We then walked a short distance to board another large bus for the trip back to Mexico City. Julio stayed with all of us until we were safely in Ubers to take us to our respective AirBNBs. Overall, it was a great day, made better by our guide Julio. He was very accommodating, helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. In addition to giving us lots of information about what we were seeing on the tour, he answered many other questions about what to see in Mexico City—and he did it without trying to sell us on any other tours!
My friend and I were visiting Mexico City for Dia de los Muertos and wanted to visit the pyramids at Teotihuacan as it's a beautiful historical site outside of the city. We wanted a guided tour, but did not want to do a large tourist group where we felt like we would not have a personalized experience. We ended up booking this tour through Viator, which included a tequila and pulque tasting in an obsidian shop in addition to dinner with a local family. Our group was small (six people total, and we all got along!) and it was perfect for all of the activities we attended. We felt like we got enough time at each location, plenty of balance between free time and guided, and the schedule of activities was optimal. The tequila/pulque tasting combined with the obsidian shop is run by a local family and was educational, hands on, and cozy as everything is run out of the family's home. Ulisses was our main tour guide and was incredibly knowledgable about every location we visited, and was great with adjusting his tour guide persona and pacing based around the needs of the individuals in the group. He went out of his way to answer any and all questions we had thoroughly, and is a great storyteller. Ulisses also knows all the ideal photo opportunity spots and is good at taking pictures, which was a huge bonus! Jacinto, who was training as a tour guide, was essentially indistinguishable both in knowledge and experience as a full-fledged guide, and continuously went above and beyond his guiding duties. He gave us some much appreciated recommendations on bars, restaurants, and night clubs that came in handy as we mapped out the rest of our trip. Additionally, he readily shared his tips and tricks to getting around CDMX which proved to be indispensable. Both Ulisses and Jacinto were professional, friendly, and hospitable, and made the tour feel less touristy-kitsch and much more welcome and familiar. We loved hearing their vast knowledge about CDMX and Teotihuacan, and they proved to be an invaluable resource to our trip. We appreciated them taking the time to also share their lives, stories, humor, history, and culture over the entirety of an afternoon and evening. I cannot stress how much I recommend this tour, and Ulisses and Jacinto were integral to my enjoyment.
