Our driver Fernando was amazing! He was supposed to have a tour guide with him but at the last minute was told the tour guide wasn’t available so not only was he our driver but our tour guide as well! Fernando provided us information along our drive to and from and even stopped for us to try some Pulque. Safe driver! The experience itself was amazing, my favorite was the waterfall / cave. 10/10 would recommend!

Ride to Tolantongo (approx. 3.5 hours): Settle into a comfortable drive through mountain and desert-style roads. Use this time to recharge, enjoy the views, and watch the landscapes shift as we make our way to the hot springs.
Arrival at Tolantongo (around 10 AM) We get there as the gates open, giving you a head start to enjoy the pools, views, and calm atmosphere before the park fills up.

Great experience shared with the best group! We all had a blast. Our driver Fernando was the best! Highly recommended
Aaron was amazing! I traveled solo and he took such great care of our whole group - made sure I had vegan options, took photos, etc. Had a great time. The caves are the best part!
My family and I had a wonderful time. The drivers were very careful, patient, and informative. Throughout the park visit Aron (I think that was his name) was constantly on the look out to make sure we were enjoying our stay. Thank you so much for h! We will definitely be recommending!
Amazing experience! Attentive driver who was super nice!
This was absolutely amazing! It was such a unique and beautiful experience. The drive was long but very worth it. The pools, caves, and river were all wonderful and our guide (Aaron) was very knowledgeable, kind, and fun. Our driver (Fernando) was excellent and very pleasant, even brought toilet paper for us and kept our belongings safe during the times when our bags could not go with us. I would 1000% do this trip again and I very highly recommend Aaron as your guide! I felt very safe and it was all around a fantastic experience!
The experience was fantastic! Our guide Aaron was very knowledgable! The trip was very well planned and overall very enjoyable!
One of the best day trips I have ever done! The tour guide is a genuine chap who really looks after you in every way and is so knowledgeable too, the driver was so adept at navigating some pretty crazy terrain! The place itself is unreal! I don’t know how it’s not more well known! It’s an epic adventure that I highly highly recommend!
All instructions were clear from the guide (Cecilia) and she kept us updated on the itinerary throughout the day. She let us roam free to explore the river and the pools etc..and was always punctual whenever we needed to reconvene. It is definitely an entire day commitment (from 630am to 830pm) which wasn’t entirely clear in the advert for the tour.
I heard about this tour from a friend and had always wanted to go to las Grutas de Tolantongo. I took it as a sign that it was time for me to finally go and I was NOT disappointed! First of all, my tour guide Ce was so cute and helpful! I was a little nervous during some moments because the road to get to the Grutas is through the mountains and I have a fear of heights. Ce was super reassuring the entire time and our driver Fernando was very professional and nice as well. Las Grutas are IMPRESSIVE and the area is incredibly beautiful. The other tourists on my trip were super friendly as well. If I had to describe the trip in two words, they would be: GOOD VIBES. The tour is totally worth it.
I wish it was longer. The trip was splendid and I didn’t want it to end. Cecilia was an amazing tour guide. The hot springs were not too busy and we were able to enjoy various pools. Cecilia also guided us through a cave, that was my favorite part.
It was a great experience and the location was beautiful! Great service and tour guide! We got to see all the areas and amazing thermal pools and cave!
My tour guide is Cecilia, she is very kind and nice. Always contactable and flexible!! Speaking perfect english and shares everything she knows about each travel attraction. She is generous and kind and knowledgeable. Very lucky to have her as a tour guide. I went with my friend. Only 2 of us, they still went for the tour, which is amazing. The poor itself was so amazing view and Mexican people are really kind
We had the best time with Fernando and Ramon! They were so friendly and knowledgeable, making the whole day fun and easy. The hot springs were gorgeous with lots of spots to relax, and the area itself was absolutely stunning. We ate delicious food, soaked in the beauty all around us, and left feeling so grateful for the experience. Highly recommend!
Honestly such a fun and wonderful experience recommend 10/10!!! It is a lot of walking up and down stairs so make sure to prepare, the hot springs are great to swim in and the caves/ rivers are beautiful.
Hi, it was an amazing experience going by myself I was very skeptical been on my own but Cecilia our tour guide was kind enough to stay with me at all time so I was able to enjoyed everything without worrying about getting lost I highly recommend both the driver ( Jaime) and Cecilia she warm and very kind
The experience at las grutas was so fun and different. Definitely recommend but also keep in mind it is a lot of walking up and down stairs. The caves and views were beautiful.
The driver and the host were both wonderful. They were accommodating and kind through the trip to the grotto. 10/10 I would definitely go back again! If you love nature, you won’t want to miss this!
We really enjoyed this tour! There is a lot of driving from Mexico City (about 4 hours one way) but it was worth it for us. I do think the description isn’t as detailed so I’ll give an itinerary with my tips. You drive about 2 hours then stop at a hotel for a breakfast buffet. We enjoyed it but if you’re a picky eater you might not like the options. The buffet does NOT come with your ticket. It’s about $11 USD per person. You drive another 1.5 hours and stop at a shop where you can buy water shoes, towels etc. There’s a toilet available for use but bring your own tissue and there might not be water. You get to the park and spend about 2 hours in the hot springs pool. There are no towels at the park. You can rent them from tour company or air drive. The bathrooms in the park also do not have tissue. Next you spend about another 1-2 hours in the caves. Surprisingly this was by far the best part of the trip. Bring a phone cover if you’re scared of your phone getting wet. Finally you spend another hour at the river that’s very relaxing and there’s restaurants to eat. You spend about 40 min eating. Again, we really enjoyed our experience but I can see why some people feel like having an 8 hour drive (round trip) might not be worth it. One last tip! Bring $5-$7 pesos for the bathroom. If you go at a gas station then you have to pay. Overall I think if it’s your first time in Mexico City, then this trip is worth it.
Cancelled our trip. We found out as we woke up at 5am for the trip because they had only cancelled it at 2am. I’m sure they knew way before that the trip was not going to meet the total head count requirements
So glad we did this in our trip to Mexico City. Our tour guide was punctual and made sure we were having fun. Since we got lucky and had the tour guide to ourselves, we got to control the trip a little bit more. 10/10 recommend
We had an awesome experience. The hot springs lived up to the hype and more but he best part of the trip was our tour guide Daniel, and driver Fernando. They looked out for us every step of the way, helping in local shops and providing great suggestions for food along the way. Would definitely recommend to friends visiting Mexico City!
Although Tolantongo is a very crowded place, and a 4 hrs drive from Mexico City is needed to reach it, the trip is really worth. The beautifulness of nature is stunning.
The caves, falls, and pools are very cool. But driving 4+ hrs to get there and 5+ back makes me wish we had done something else. You need to be able to climb 5 flights of stairs quite easily to handle the rigorous of the terrain and steps. My 3 boys enjoyed it but again the drive back, getting hung up by demonstrators and a town festival half way back made this an arduous journey. The trip includes a towel, which is a 8" x 10" face towel, so bring your own towel, and includes "toilet paper". All the bathrooms where they provide toilet paper on the way in give you an equivalent of about 4 kleenex. So if you happened to feast on the enchilada special the day before, it would be wise to throw a roll of toilet paper in your backpack. Water temp was a luke warm in pools and quite hot, steamy in caves. But seeing the mass of water pouring thru the caves is impressive. Water shoes and a waterproof phone/money case to keep on you are a must but both sold on way to park. Provided lunch was mediocre by US standards. Don't eat salad anywhere.
This was so much more than we expected. Our guide was there to ensure we all had the best day possible. There is an optional zip line ($15) that’s totally worth it!
The tour was amazing! Our guide, Ana, was very knowledgeable about the history of the grutas, and the towns we passed through along the way there/back. At the grutas, she took us to the pools, the cave/waterfall, and the river, and gave us plenty of time at each stop. Our favorite was the cave/waterfall- she took us deep into the cave which was an incredible adventure. The driver, Miguel, was also great- patient, kind, and a very safe driver. One of the best days we’ve had on our trip, highly recommend Ana and this tour!
It was a long day. But expected. Van on time. Driver ok. Lots of speed bumps on the way. But took the stress from us having to drive
It was a truly fun day and our guide, Diego, was great, very attentive and took good care of us. He provided the group with clear instructions, responded to our needs promptly so we could get the best out of our day!
The hot springs were mesmerizing and the cave was an incredible experience, very worthy vacation destination
Even though this experience was a long day, it is most likely something I would do again! It was an early start and ended pretty late but the group was small so it moved along pretty smoothly. The views were beautiful, the people were friendly, and I felt so relaxed. Diego & Miguel were excellent and punctual. Thankful for the stops for snacks, the stories that were shared and the new friends I made.
The tour was structured very well, the host was amazing and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend if visiting Mexico City!
me and my friend had a blast! our tour guide, diego has been amazing. he was knowledgeable about the place and very friendly. the place itself is magical. we went on a weekday so only a fee people were there. it is worth every penny! we had an amazing time
Booked this the day before and could not have asked for a better experience. Fernando was our driver and Miguel was our guide, Miguel was very knowledgeable and spoke English very well for people who are looking for an English speaker. Made a stop to get breakfast after about an 1hr and 30 mins out the city and got to Tolantongo around 11:30. We made it back to the city and got dropped off where we got picked up around 9:30pm. Overall great experience and I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who looking for a day in Tolantongo.
Vijay, our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging! He made the entire trip fun and we enjoyed our trip very much. I would recommend this trip to any adventurer, just be forewarned that it’s all day, 4 hours each way and be fit and ready to walk and climb.
Loved the Grutas de Tolantongo tour, especially the cave part! We did the tour with an infant and even he enjoyed the trip though long drives were required each way (4hrs each way). Our guide was very helpful and took good care of us, Highly recommend a visit to Tolantongo.
Do you want to spend nine hours of your vacation on transportation to and from a destination? Nowhere in the description of this tour do they tell you how long the transportation takes. It is four hours there and nearly 5 hours return. One hour of the trip is on windy and Rocky roads, which will be difficult for anyone with vertigo or prone to car sickness. One day before our scheduled trip, we happen to speak to an independent professional tour guide who told us that it was a long and boring trip to get to the Hot Springs. He had no reason to try to dissuade us from taking this trip since he wasn’t trying to sell his own tours. He was just trying to help. So I called [Viator] and told them that it was impossible for us to make this long journey because two of us were already ill with diarrhea and two had other reasons why they couldn’t stand this journey. The agent told me that it was up to the tour provider, and she said I needed to call the provider, since the trip was 19 hours away. I did that. I explained to him that two from our group had medical issues but he said he couldn’t refund our payment. I wrote a letter to [Viator] and the provider. They still refused to refund our payment. Nowhere in the description will you find the amount of time that it takes to get to the Hot Springs. NINE HOURS. Think about it if you were considering taking this tour.
this is a long day so it’s best to prepare with snacks/water. our guide was very friendly, but our tour went over by 3 hours. our guide also seemed to steer us to specific points to eat, shop, etc instead of allowing us options. i’ve done this tour before and i know there are alternate places to eat/drink. for this tour, i would suggest going to another company that starts earlier or ends on time. however, the guide and driver were wonderful.
Where to start Miguel Alias El Invasore and Manny our guide did wonderful from driving us there to explaining our trip and each destination. Manny went out of his way to make us feel comfortable thru the entire trip. I highly recommend these two guys. God Bless You!
Had a wonderful time, weather was perfect. Manny was really funny and honest about recommendations, and what to expect of tour. Definitely get some good rest the night prior and expect the tour to take all day. Left the tour with lifetime memories and things to share and show when I get back to the states. One if not the best tour I’ve experienced so far yet.
Amazing adventure with our tour guide Manny. He gave us so many tips that you would only know from doing this serial times. I appreciated all of his knowledge and help. It was so much more than I expected! Miguel was a great driver as well. Got us there and back safely. Thank you so much for the experience!
Had the best tour guide and made new friends! Our guide was so caring, considerate, and helped us feel safe exploring outside the city. We stopped along the side of the road in the rural areas for fresh fruits and delicious barbacoa tacos. A truly unique, fun, and memorable experience I would 100% recommend this trip to anyone who is adventurous and enjoys water.
This was an incredible trip. Our tour guide, Manny, did so many little extra things for us. He had towels and water shoes for some of the people that had forgotten their own. These were things that were not included. He was very thoughtful, and considerate, and was always aware of what we needed, like the bathroom, or food. The trip was divided into three parts, the first part was the pools. There are over 70 of them and you can go in one to the next or stay in the one that you like. There was a locker room where you could change into your bathing suit, and we left our valuables in the van. Lunch was not included, but we did eat it at the restaurant on the grounds. I myself, had I known, would’ve gotten a quick snack instead of a sit down lunch, We got back into the van in our bathing suits for the 10 minute ride down to the river for the next two parts. We were able to go into the cave from which the river ran with flashlights on our heads, and then into the river which is completely natural, but with barriers across it to create multiple pools, those closer to the cave with stronger current. There is another locker room by the caves, and we could change back into our dry clothes for the trip back. Manny took us to various places on the way back to try delicious local bread, the best taco in the world, and pulque (but it was to late). I highly recommend this trip.
It was such an incredible experience and Manuel was the greatest tour guide making the experience that much more wonderful
What a lovely day! Manny was fantastic. He gave us options for stops along the way and on the return. He was very knowledgable and kind. Be ready for a full long day. Bring layers! I wasn’t dressed appropriately and Manny had socks and a blanket for me. My hero! Bring pesos and toilet paper for the public bathrooms. The hot springs were gorgeous and fun. Well worth the full day spent. And as a bonus, Manny had waterproof cell phone covers if needed, towels, and a place for us to purchase water shoes. We had a small group of five and it was the perfect amount of people.
This is a full day! Bring proper snug fitting water shoes with as thick a bottom as you can. That being said the tour guide was very knowledgeable about Tolantongo and added lots of insights and local knowledge along the way.
If you have the time, should go for it. 14 hrs tour. Amazing expedition! Very safe, fun and group was private. Views and pool amazing Manny our tour guy was very helpful and respectful. Privey but had a great time
Manny was the sweetest, most knowledgeable tour guide. He was very attention. He got to know the people on the tour. He asked questions. When he discovered someone was celebrating a birthday, he went out of his way to ensure the birthday boy had cake. The drive was long, but the group was amazing so I hardly noticed. All stops were well planned out. The actual spring was to die for. All of it was amazing. The caves were amazing. The water was amazing. The charcoal mask was amazing. The river was amazing. The food on the way back was to die for. Also on the way back we stopped to get some sweet bread and Manny got us some crickets. It was truly a wonderful experience. Thank you Manny! You are the best.
An amazing experience! Manny and driver Fernando were friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The hot springs pools were so relaxing with amazing views. The caves (included-but optional) were an adventure, they are dark (Manny let us borrow a headlamp), active water dripping from the limestone ceilings, and one cave had a waterfall! The river was just as warm as the hot springs pools, fun to sit near the drops of water and feel the water current. It was worth the three hour drive from Mexico City, it was a fun full day!
Having fresh juice for breakfast,Relaxing in the river, seeing the cave with a waterfall. Nice layout of the thermal springs
Manny Vega was the best tour guide we could imagine. He made this experience special for us. He was watching us and checking on everyone all the time, taking care of our needs, watching over our belongings ( cellphones, towels,…) when we were in pools; he walked with us one by one to order food and drinks and snacks we liked (as we could not read menus or speak to locals). His English is perfect with no accent and this made communication very easy. Before getting to the pools he had earned our trust and he was our friend. The driver was also very polite and careful. The pools and cave and the river are heavenly beautiful. It is worth the long drive. I had a lot of fun specially with a group of nice and easy going tour mates.
