Tolantongo Caves Hot Springs & Waterfalls Small Group Tour

It’s a great experience but do not plan anything after. You get there at 5:30 AM but don’t really leave until 6:40 AM it’s a 3-4 hour drive depending on the traffic. Plenty stops but do bring toilet paper, water shoes, 2 towels, waterproof phone case and battery pack. If you want to shower after being toiletries. I went on Nov 2nd and it was still the day of the dead which meant the traffic was terrible. We didn’t get “back” until 9:30 PM because we were dropped off at a different location than the pick up bc of the traffic. I believe the tour was great with plenty of stops, nice tour guide (Angel). I would do it again and would consider spending the night or just not doing it on a Mexican holiday. After you are so drained you may just want to sleep and recharge. The tour shuttle was uncomfortable to sleep on and super bumpy. I also didn’t order the lunch and I am kind of glad it was just a sandwich and cookies based off of what I saw other that’s had. Also, you do stop like 3-4 times before you get to the grutas. At an OXXO, once to eat for 30 mins, then at a store that sells phone cases, water shoes, towels, souvenirs. Check the weather and bring a sweater it gets cold when you get out.

Great experience! Pricing for the caves and hot springs was included. Takes about 4-5 hours to get out there. Make sure you take cash because they do not accept card anywhere on the mountain. Or stock up at the gas station during your half way stop.

Angel was a great tour guide! Super helpful, professional and patient. Now the ride is so long but worth it, keep in mind it’s an all-day tour. Multiple stops for breakfast and water shoes/ bikini shopping. Overall, the hot springs were so beautiful and relaxing. 10/10.

It's a long bus ride, but well worth it. It's so relaxing once you get there. I went in October. The waters were perfect. They were warm.

The van was not comfortable like a bus for a long travel. The guide didn’t explain about the visited area. Because the bad weather we could not visit the caves, we could only visit the artificial pools. However this information could be checked before leaving Mexico City and they could give us the option for rescheduling.

My experience overall was amazing. It was so beautiful and peaceful. My tour guide Ernesto was very informative and made the experience easy to navigate through, since the Grutas Tolantongo is big. My favorite thing about this experience was that I didn’t have to drive after a long day of being in the water. Thank you to Juan Miguel for a safe trip. He was very kind and accommodating to our group to make it a comfortable drive. The van was comfortable enough to rest. I would recommend bringing a small blanket, dry comfortable clothes for after, charger, water shoes/ not sandals. Overall, a great experience. And I would recommend this tour experience with them again. I will be back.

Get Alvaro and Roger10 out of 10 I highly recommend, the tour guide was knowledgeable extremely friendly and flexible. One of our friends even dropped his phone on the zip line. And Alvaro helped him find it saved the entire trip, Alvaro and Roger were excellent get them if you can.

Paco was phenomenal and made me feel prepared and ready to have a great time! Although we had mishaps it didn’t change how great the trip was!

We loved our trip here. It was a long drive but totally worth it. Our tour guide Marianna and driver Cesar were great. Marianna kept the long drive entertaining by engaging with the whole group in the van. She was super nice and made sure everyone’s needs were met.

Experience was awesome. Our tour girl Mariana was the best, very funny, and so informative. Driver Rogelio was also great got us back and forth safe and at great times.

Álvaro was a very entertaining and sincerely friendly guide in a good mood. The driver Gio was funny as well. The hot springs themselves were very relaxing and the most beautiful site I’ve seen in my Mexico trip. Fully recommended!

Make sure and walk with bathing shoes and a water proof phone case before hand. It makes the trip easier. Also, Prepare for the possibility of no service once you leave Mexico City. It’s a whole day trip. So be prepared.

Angel and Erson made this a very smooth ride. It’s a long trip, but it was worth it upon arrival. One of the most beautiful sights and we had more than enough time to spend in each zone. Erson was great at explaining the history, taking us around the grounds, and having a great fun attitude the entire time. Loved the stops each way for great local food and couldn’t have been more thrilled with the experience. Would recommend.

Paco was an absolutely amazing guide! He brought us to a really yummy restaurant for breakfast before our excursion and we also stopped for dinner after. He was incredibly kind and informative and knew a lot about the history of Tolantongo. Our driver was also so nice and got us there and back safely. I never once felt unsafe! Would 100000% recommend this tour!

I booked directly with Amigo Tours at their office. The man who booked me was extremely helpful and answered the questions I asked accurately. The weather was perfect, Tolantango was beautiful, and the water was lovely. It was worth the long drive. The guide and driver were good. The guide told us what to expect, orienting us to each of the stops. There was one thing that troubled me: the guide told us he would leave us if we were not at the bus on time. At the final place, he drew our attention to the hotel we wanted to get back to. From there we needed to go back to the van. I had some difficulty finding my way from the pools back to the hotel. I wasn’t the only one as I met others who had made a wrong turn as well. The route was a little confusing. Then the parking area was on two levels and once I got to the hotel, I couldn’t remember where the van was. I left the pools early so that I would be able to make mistakes and still get back on time. It would have been better to designate a place by the pools for us to meet and then all walk up together. That would have eliminated the stress about not finding the way back to the van and being left behind.

So fun and cool experience. Would definitely do it again

Ernesto and Barbara were very friendly guides, very knowledgeable and sweet! Cesar was an amazing driver. This was an amazing experience! We made one stop on the way to Tolantango for breakfast, and then we went to the caves and the river. We then drove to the pools, where there is also a restaurant in case you want to have lunch/some drinks. You have plenty of time to relax and hang out which made this a very fun and chill activity. On the way back we stopped for pastes - a delicious pastry from Hildago - and then headed back to CDMX! A very full day, but incredibly fun!

They need to take celllphone cover and buy rubber shoes. That is very crucial to enjoy this place. There are places to eat food and buy any drinks.

Incredible experience!!! It is a VERY long travel day from Mexico City but it is so worth it when you get there. We went on a weekday and it was not crowded at all.

Very beautiful! But very long car ride with lots of bumps and quick stops so be prepared for that! Other than that our host Miriam was great. We made food and bathroom break stops which was awesome.

the experience was such a beautiful one. it does take a while to get there and back but definitely worth the drive! one thing i would tweak was the lack of refund or partial refund especially in unexpected cases like sickness under 24 hours. overall, my friends enjoyed their time as the views and springs were amazing 😊

This was truly one of the best tours we did while in Mexico and is a must do. Although it was about an 3 hour drive, it went by so quickly. The cave and hot springs were definitely worth the drive. Angel was such an AMAZING guide and always made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe. He made sure to make stops along local shops so we can try the local foods. If you have Angel as a guide, you will have an amazing time!

This tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Mexico City! The Tolantongo Caves, hot springs, and waterfalls are absolutely beautiful. It’s such a unique place and definitely an experience you won’t forget if you love nature and a little adventure. Our guide, Gerry, was fantastic. He was friendly, attentive, and made sure everyone had a great time. He shared so much interesting information about the hot springs, the area, and local culture, which made us appreciate the experience even more. He also happily took photos for us throughout the day, and we never felt rushed. If you have the chance to tour with Gerry, we highly recommend him! The only minor inconvenience was that we weren’t able to be picked up from our hotel, but that wasn’t Gerry’s fault. We think it may have been related to the World Cup and the extra traffic or road closures at the time. The drive is a bit bumpy, so keep that in mind, but it was absolutely worth it. Overall, this was an incredible experience, and Gerry made an already amazing day even better. We would definitely recommend this tour! Ps. We went on a Thursday and it was not that busy.

Such an amazing experience, and SO glad I went, but be prepared. It's a LONG day! Three hours each way. While I didn't feel rushed, I would have liked to have had more time at the actual hot springs. If you're unable to swing it, this is a great option, but don't plan anything else for the day, as getting back will be difficult (think LA/ATL prime traffic gridlock). If you have a few days to spare, rent a car and stay at least 1 night to really enjoy it. Our tour guides were awesome! Took us to the cutest cafe to have breakfast. Best coffee ever! And went to an empanada shop on our way back. If you've never been and are limited on time during your trip to CDMX, it's 10000% worth going!
