Itinerary
Teotihuacan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Commonly referred to as the City of the Gods, this pre-Columbian Mesoamerican city is known for its well-preserved murals, vast Avenue of the Dead and the impressive pyramids that mark its landscape. Arrive at the archeological park before the crowds in the early morning just as it begins to open its gates. Take in the serene and mystical atmosphere as your group meanders through large empty plazas in the absence of the crowds and explore the pyramids. View the murals, architectural as your guide explains their archeological significance, and tells stories about the culture that inhabited this ancient city.
Once you’ve marveled at the pyramids of Teotihuacan, continue your journey with a stop at an authentic obsidian workshop. Learn how this volcanic stone has been worked for centuries, enjoy a tequila tasting, and perhaps take home a handcrafted memento.
Right there, you will take the lunch (not included in the price), which, by the variety of dishes and its Mexican traditional flavor, is in itself another great experience before your guide delivers you back to the central meeting points.

We had to wake up at 5AM to make this tour as the departure was 6:20AM and boy, was it worth it! We were one of the first groups there and it was great without the crowds. Learned so much about Teotihuacan and its inhabitants. It was cool that they had a shower technology during that time. The pyramids were also very impressive! We were in a Spanish/English tour and our tour bus split up. The Spanish guide, Alex, was great and a wealth of knowledge! Wished I spoke Spanish so I could've joined his tour. I normally don't like tourist traps but the place they brought us was so cool. We had tequila, mezcal, and pulque tasting and walked around the market a bit. If I had extra money, I would have bought some gold obsidian! So pretty and you can only find this variation there. The lunch was good. Not the best we've had this trip, but we have enjoyed the Molcajetes. It was unique and worth the experience.
Alex and Miri are very knowledgeable and professional guides.
Amazing tour insanely informative and a lot of fun. I will definitely request Miri and Alejandra Gonzalez again :)
Thanks for taking such good care of us, Alex.
Overall a great experience visiting the Teotihuacan pyramids with Amigo Tours. The tour guide Lily was very engaging and patiently answered all the group’s questions. The ride there and back was smooth thanks to the driver Lorenzo. I would suggest having a breakfast or bite beforehand as the pit stop at gas station didn’t provide many good options, and I also thought the lunch was a bit overpriced.
George was a really nice guide, I really enjoyed the tour and everything we did and I learned so much about the history of the place.
Awesome trip, the tour guide Jorge and driver Moses were excellent!
Our guide, Giovanna and driver, Alvin, were top notch. Gio gave the best insights on the history of the site and Alvin was great at keeping us safe on the road. Would definitely recommend this tour.
We had a great time on this tour, even though my five-year-old was worn out about midway through. The guide was informed and knowledgeable. The tour itself was better than the souvenir market we stopped at afterwards, but we had opted for lunch for the kids just in case. This is a long day with an early start, but it was nice to get out before the crowds in the cool morning. It was great meeting guests from other countries.
It was incredible to see the pyramids of Teotihuacan! Our tour guide, Salvador, was exceptional at explaining the history and significance of the pyramids and surrounding civilization (in English). He was kind enough to answer many of the additional questions I had throughout the tour. We were able to climb the pyramids which permitted it, but one of them (Sun) was closed off to the public. The actual tour itself was great - no issues. Driver and tour guides were very accommodating and ensured everyone had food and water before and during the tour. We unfortunately were not able to participate in the lunch and tequila tasting, due to a conflicting event. What we wished we had done different was to Uber to the meeting location (a hostel). We paid extra for a pick up service since it was early morning, but it was not a great experience for us since we were not aware that this service picked up other people as well. It took awhile, the driver was not that helpful in telling us where we were going, and we would have rather traveled separately. Lastly: if you appreciate a more in depth, private experience of the history, and if’s within budget, I would suggest doing a private tour. That’s what I should have done, looking back. There is so much history, and traveling with a larger group of people can make it difficult to make time for explaining the significance of the many of the fascinating structures and sculptures.
We went on the sunrise tour. There were about 12 in our group. Tour guide was informative and nice, but he talked constantly. And I mean constantly. It was like listening to the radio. I think pauses are a great way to give people space and time to digest and to interact and meet one another. The last part (at least 1.5 hours) of the tour was basically an advertisement to sell restaurant food and souvenirs to squeeze money out of you. We spent a lot of time at several different tourist traps. We felt like captive prisoners pressured and guilted with no escape. At the mescal/tequila stop there were lots of off-color raunchy jokes by our “speaker”, with even with lively obsidian dildos (not kidding) for sale. The tour ended on this heavy-handed distasteful experience. We were also told not to leave a review unless it was 5 stars. So based on our experience I can’t recommend Amigo Tours. Maybe all the tours do this. I don’t know. If that’s the case take public transit or Uber and enjoy the day on your own terms, and avoid the tourist traps!!
Antonio and Alex were incredible guides! The whole experience was amazing and smooth.
I was a bit skeptical about a bus tour, but it was fantastic! A very comfortable ride, great tour guide with so much useful information, and lots of time to walk around by ourselves. The site is fascinating and shockingly huge! I am so so glad we went!
When booking, the selling points of the tour included learning about the incredible site of Teotihuacan at sunrise, and afterwards be treated to a traditional Mexican meal. However, none of these things turned out to be exactly true. We arrived at the site as early as possible, which is 8am (over an hour after sunrise). While there were very few people there, the tour guide was equally light on information, explaining none of the site's fascinating history. Rather than explain anything about the original inhabitants of Teotihuacan, our guide waxed poetic about the power of semi-precious stones and easily-disproven tourist tales (i.e. describing the gimmick of worms in Mezcal, invented in the 1940s for marketing, as "traditional" and that consuming the worm would give "7 years of very good luck). When it came time to eat the included meal, I was informed only after partaking in the buffet that I was already given my lunch, a box of cold food which I could not eat as it disregarded the dietary restrictions I explained multiple times to the guide and preparers of the food in Spanish. The tour finishes with the guide taking you to "artisans", who place a sticker on you so they can give commission to the guide for the overpriced tchotchkes they sell (silver and semi-precious jewelry of far higher quality can be found in CDMX for less than half of the price). I would highly recommend avoiding this tour company, even if you speak no Spanish as the site is very accommodating to people who only speak English, and instead finding a friend with whom you can drive out to the site yourself. You will save a ton of time (the tour takes a whopping 8 hours when all activities including the drive can easily be done in 5 hours), a ton of money (you will know exactly what you are paying for), and a ton of frustration.
Our Tour Guide Sal and the driver were both courteous and timely. Sal’s explanations in English were very clear and understandable. He has 30 yrs experience, was knowledgeable, humorous, and made the tour very interesting and enjoyable. The early access was definitely worth it for less people and morning temperatures. It is a good amount of walking but for those who didn’t want to, there were options. Our only complaint was not knowing clearly the lunch options (you can order à la carte off menu.) We thought the buffet lunch was the only choice 450 Mex pesos and regretted it. That was discounted fr 500 pesos (US$32) on the spot price, which didn’t include drinks or tip. The food was local Mexican that was just ok taste-wise but not worth that price. They had bbq meats (very tough) and salad, veggies, fruit, desserts.
Our visit to Teotihuacan was an unforgettable experience, made even better by the outstanding team that guided us throughout the day. The archaeological site itself is absolutely breathtaking—walking among the pyramids, especially the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon, gives you a real sense of the grandeur and mystery of this ancient city. The history and cultural significance are incredible, and it’s something everyone should experience at least once. A special thank you to Gio (English) and Daniel (Spanish), our guide, who truly brought the site to life. Gio's deep knowledge, engaging storytelling, and passion for the history of Teotihuacan made the tour both educational and enjoyable. She answered all our questions with patience and added fascinating details that you wouldn’t get just walking around on your own. I also want to commend David, our driver, for making the journey smooth and comfortable. His professionalism and safe driving allowed us to relax and fully enjoy the day without any worries. Overall, this tour exceeded my expectations. With such a well-coordinated team, it turned into a seamless, enriching, and memorable experience. Highly recommended!
We had a great experience with Mirian and Antonio from Amigos Tours! Would highly recommend them and this amazing historical site.
The place itself is amazing, also, the guide, Mirian, was amazing handling such a big group by herself. Now, what's the point of hiring a early access tour, scheduled for 6:20 if it's going to leave at 7:10? I woke up at 4:40, had breakfast and arrived at 6 for nothing. The tour still stopped for a short breakfast instead of going straight for Teotihuacan. The place was already packed, as expected. Arriving one hour earlier would've been great, and according to what was contracted. Also, why ask if we require a tour in English or Spanish if the same guide will just have to say everything twice? Clearly there should be another guide to split the group. Again, this is not a complain about Mirian. She was amazing.
The visit to Teotihuacan was enjoyable. At the second site, we didn’t have much time, and the guide explained things too quickly and in a confusing manner. Since they had indicated that lunch was optional, we brought sandwiches with us and were looking for a place to eat them when we were forced to stay with the group for lunch and sit at a restaurant they had chosen (a tourist trap). We were eventually allowed to eat our lunch on a bench outside the restaurant. We didn’t like being forced to choose that restaurant.
Alicia was wonderful, and very knowledgeable,
the arrangement is good enough but Afonso is remarkable, he is very frienfly , patient and helpful. Driver - Manuel is nice too .
The excursion was amazing. Alex was a great bus driver and Daniel was a great tour guide. He was very personable and humorous. I highly recommend.
We had a great experience with our guides David and Alfonso. They each were very attentive to our needs and allowed me and my mom to have an enjoyable visit. I had been to the pyramids before but not with a guide, this experience was fantastic. So much knowledge and great information but the entire trip was very well planned. I will say this is not for those who struggle to walk quickly and up and down stairs. The historical site is rather strenuous for those who struggle to walk at a brisk pace. Overall I recommend this to anyone who wants to learn alot and be guided throughout. Also the early access to the site was lovely to get beautiful photosbwith very few people in the background.
Our trip to Teotihuacan exceeded our already high expectations. The beauty, the scale, the historical import of the site are all front and center. The curators offer good access amid its ongoing archeological investigation. We visited with Amigo Tour and we readily go again with them. Our guide, Antonio, was well informed and brought the story of he site to life with a very easy style. He delivered his narratie in both Spanish and English which made it much easier to interact with our small group of international travelors. Plus, Antonio was simply a pleasure to be with. Our driver also did a commendable job of navigating Mexico City and state traffic. My travel companion and I would recommend this tour.
Booked AmigoTours and had Liliana as our tour guide. She was very knowledgeable and Passionate about Teotihuacan, I don’t think we would have had as great as an experience without her.
Excellent tour of Teotihuacan with Amigo tours. Our guides Salvadore and Israel were knowledgeable and friendly. Great option for a popular destination!
We had an excellent experience with Lily as the guide and Daniel driving.
I had an amazing experience on this tour to the Teotihuacan Pyramids. From the very beginning, everyone involved was incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive, which made the whole day feel easy and enjoyable. The site itself is absolutely breathtaking—seeing the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon up close is truly impressive, and the scale of the ancient city is something you don’t fully grasp until you’re there. Overall, it was a well-organized, memorable tour, and I’d happily recommend it to anyone visiting Mexico.
This tour company is not great at communicating with its patrons. The tour I had booked immediately experienced problems with the bus that was to be used. Therefore a second had to be arranged which took more than an hour past our departure time. Now I know you are thinking that is why my review is not glowing. I do understand stuff happens beyond anyone’s control. But it is in those instances how the company handles it that makes the difference. In this case I give Amigo a failing grade. They had registrants’ emails, phone numbers, contact info with their app they have you down load - and still they failed to inform customers waiting what was happening and the cause for the delay. I only learned of the events by waves dropping on another guest. Oh well, so much for the sunrise. The second bus loaded and we departed on the tour. The tour guide Alex, was a very friendly and nice individual. But his ability to communicate clearly was lacking. He spoke so fast that he was practically incoherent and often out of breath midway through a sentence. Perhaps a better vocation would be auctioneer. Another fact to be aware of is the tour offers two options with and without lunch. In the information I had when booking it described the lunch as a boxed lunch you picked up, in the morning, when checking into the tour. The thought of a hot soggy sandwich did not appeal so I booked the non lunch option. In reality the lunch was a buffet lunch at a restaurant. It is all these failures around clear communication contribute to my low review. The archeological site itself is stunning. So to make the most of it ensure you have a guide you can understand and takes time in his explanations.
Teotihuacán is an amazing place to visit but the tour was overall disappointing and felt like a scam. Firstly to arrive for a departure time of 6.20, only to have waited another hour to depart. There were problems with the bus but the communication was poor. The guide Alex was clearly knowledgeable but incredibly difficult to follow. We were given radios to listen but he was often rambling on very long tangents, unclear as to what part of the site he was talking about with little structure to the tour. We were then driven to an expensive souvenir shop as part of the tour which felt unnecessary. Finally lunch, at the meeting point we were encouraged to add lunch to the trip (around $450 pesos), it was an overpriced buffet with little atmosphere, and soft drinks were not included. As a fellow guest pointed out ‘it’s concerning when even your tour guides are eating at a different restaurant’. Overall the day felt overpriced and a tourist trap, we would not recommend.
Super interesting day. It was so informative we didn't know we were tired till we got home. We got time for a quick visit to the museum and learned a lot about the people of the past and how they lived. Good job Israel for your excellent guiding and your driver on Feb 28th (sorry I can't remember his name!
We had an amazing time. Saw many sights, had lunch and are much more knowledgeable of Mexican history. Alicia was the best tour guide!!! She has lots of insights into the history of sites. We highly recommend her!!!!
Lily, Eliezar were patient and knowledgeable guides. They knew the history of Teotihuacan and had answers for all of my questions. I never felt rushed and definitely left the tour satisfied and informed. Jesus was a great driver. I even was able to take a nap on the drive back to the city.
Great visit of the Teotihuacan pyramids from CDMX. The guides, Eleasar and Lilly, were very nice and knowledgeable and the tour was very informative and well organized. Jesus drove us there and back very smoothly.
Lili, Eli and Jesús were wonderful! Good knowledge about the site!
This tour was one of the main highlights of our trip to Mexico City. We found this tour on the Destonationless Travel blog. It's an early start, but well worth it to avoid the crowds and the midday heat and sun. Our guide, Francisco, really made the experience special -- he was kind, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable (he kept everyone safe on the steep pyramid steps by advising us to step down with our feet "side by side with glamour of course" :) After touring the ruins, we stopped for lunch at a nearby restaurant -- delicious, even for a tourist spot -- then went on to a fun tequila tasting and presentation about the history and art of obsidian. We were back by mid-afternoon which gave us enough time to relax at our hotel before dinnertime. Highly recommend this tour. Thank you Francisco!
This trip was absolutely amazing. The price is very reasonable for the amount of activity and information gathered from this experience. Our driver Rafael was amazing, my boyfriend and I were able to nap on the ride to and from the pyramids. Our tour guide Leonardo was so knowledgeable and easily transitioned between English and Spanish the entire tour which was very impressive. He was personable and inviting and we were happy to tip him more generously afterward if not for all the amazing shops and vendors in and after the pyramid tour (Be sure to bring pesos, most of the native vendors did not take cards). I will say wear good shoes and pack light because there is a lot of walking during this tour, but the sights were absolutely worth it. I also suggest booking the early tour, especially on a Sunday. Natives to Mexico can visit the sites for free on Sundays so the sites get a bit crowded midway through the day. After the tour Leonardo took us to speak with native people to demonstrate the process of using a cactus native to the area for weaving clothes as well as making tequila (we received samples of this tequila y the mezcal and both were delicious and very warming). I would also highly suggest the lunch option, the buffet had many delicious authentic Mexican dishes and the drinks (although costing extra) were absolutely delicious. I recommend one of the many flavors pulque they have to offer. My personal favorite was the mango but the horchata was muy bien también. I would recommend this tour to my closest friends and recommend that they schedule with Rafael and Leonardo personally because they really made the experience so wonderful.
Fernanda and Antonio were wonderful. Expert information and enough time to spend at each spot. I would not recommend the boxed lunch as you go to a restaurant as part of the tour and the boxed lunch is not great.
Alex Gonzalez was a great guide, very knowledgeable and fun to listen to. Cesar was a very safe and good driver! Great to be in Teotihuacan before the large crowds arrive.
Antonio was a hoot ❤️ Wonderful company and guide. Good mix of the bilingual approach and well organized.
We were told to arrive at 6:10 AM, but the bus didn’t leave until 6:50 AM and we didn’t reach Teotihuacán until 8:40 AM, even though it opens at 8:00 AM. By then, it was already getting crowded. The group didn’t even set foot on the Avenue of the Dead until 9:40 AM (2 hours after opening) because the first hour was spent touring a small side building. By then, the site was packed. At 8:40AM, we left the group to climb the Pyramid of the Moon ourselves. It was busy, but we were still able to enjoy the view of the Pyramid of the Sun with hot air balloons in the background. The group didn’t climb it until after 10:00 AM, when it was extremely crowded and the morning light was gone, making the early wake-up feel pointless. We rejoined the tour at 9:40 AM. The group didn’t climb the Pyramid until after 10:00 AM, when it was extremely crowded, the hot air balloons were gone, and the soft morning light had been replaced by harsh afternoon sun. This made the early wake-up feel pointless. The tour was advertised as 7 hours, but this excluded transportation time so we didn’t return to Mexico City until 4:00 PM. The last 3.5 hours were unnecessary tourist traps (restaurant, tequila tasting, and shop). While the tequila guide was informative and fun, most of the group wished the tour had ended at 11:30 and taken us straight back to the city. We were hesitant to write this review because the guide was very kind and did his best. However, due to how Amigo Tours is structured, we would not recommend it. The experience would have been much better if we arrived at 7:45 AM, ended by late morning, and no tourist traps.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Overall rating — thanks to the guides and the driver I am giving this tour the highest rating because of the people who ran it: the tour guides Alan and Lili, and Moisés, the big-bus driver. My husband and I did the English tour, and our guide was Alan — he was absolutely phenomenal: extremely knowledgeable, informative, caring, and very professional. He made the entire experience meaningful and enjoyable. ¡Gracias, Alan! Your English is fantastic. The bus was comfortable, clean, and well-driven, and we appreciated not having to rent a car or worry about transportation. That alone made the tour worth it for us. ⚠️ A couple of important notes: • The tour was advertised as an early tour meeting at 6:20 am, but we did not actually leave until about 6:45 am. Not a big problem, but worth mentioning for people on tight schedules. • The restaurant they take you to (the obsidian shop restaurant) was honestly the worst meal we have had in Mexico so far. That part deserves one star and could definitely be improved or replaced. 👉 Would I recommend this tour? Yes — because of the guides, the driver, and the quality of the transportation. The human side of this tour is what makes it excellent.
Did the tour with Alan, he was very interesting, and knowledgeble , i feel i learned à lot with him . For the money, it is worth it .
We had a great time throughout the whole experience. The trip was well organized from the bus ride, the tour, the information and the restaurant afterwards. The tour guides were fountains of knowledge. I would recommend this tour to anyone with interest in this beautiful site.
Alan and Lily were our guides for the tour, with Alan taking the English speaking group. The historical insights were brilliant and it's clear he really cares about the site and culture. The hour free time (outside the tour ) for solo exploring is also just enough to see the major temples without having to wait around for the bus.
It was great! I climbed a pyramid and learned a lot. Alan spoke well and provided information I did not know previously. Would recommend.
Unmissable tour and an excellent experience. Alex was an excellent guide and really brought the site to life. A must see.
Very nice experience, great and wide information. Very friend guide. Highly recommended. Great timing for each activities
First time in Mexico and had a great time on this tour. Instructions were straightforward and comprehensive. I appreciated the time to explore the grounds on our own (although I wish I had all the time in the world!) Alan was a wonderful guide; charismatic and funny.
