Had a great morning traveling to the Teotihuacan pyramids, the handicraft shop (with demonstrations of agave uses, gemstone usage, and sampling of pulque, mezcal, and prickly pear liquor.) Had some time left over, so we did lunch at La Cueva grotto restaurant, which was really excellent. Our driver/guide, Carlos, was friendly and professional, and everything went as expected.

An excellent way to enjoy this experience, since our tours are private. You can spend as much time as you like in the archaeological zone and climb both pyramids if you wish.
A visit to the second most important temple for the Catholic religion in the world, just right after St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. A quick and very informative visit to this church that will help you understand the basis of religion in Mexico.

The driver was terrific but 40 minutes late. Could have slept more and/or enjoyed breakfast rather than rushed to wait for her. She told us the tour would be 6-8 hours. It was 4. The guide spoke great English. He promised us a co-op Of stores with native crafts and textiles. Was mostly commercially produced items.
Sarai was absolutely charming, knowledgeable, helpful and organized. She was flexible and allowed us to add a quick visit to the Basilica Guadalupe because it was on the way and so worth it. We are a very inquisitive group and she was always ready with a very complete answer. We didn't want the day to end!
Our guide was Sarai and she was fantastic. We are an inquisitive group and she would cheerfully and completely answer every question. Her historical knowledge was exceedingly deep on all things Mexico. And she was a joy to be with for the day!
Carlos was a fantastic guide! His knowledge of the history and culture of Teotihuacan and the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe made the entire experience unforgettable. We highly recommend this tour!
We had a fantastic private tour to the pyramids with our guide, Enedina (Ene). We were picked up promptly at our hotel and arrived at the site as it opened, avoiding the large crowds. The pyramids were very impressive and the tour was very informative. We also did a 2nd private tour with our guide, Ene, the day before. We toured Xochimilco, and then visited the Khalo Museum and Rivera and Kahlo Estudio in Coyoacan. Ene made the tour exceptional ! She was so knowledgeable, professional, and accommodating. She always allowed us ample time for photos and questions. We enjoyed walking the center of Coyoacan and having ice cream and churros at her favorite shops ! It was truly like visiting Mexico City with a friend. We highly recommend Stepping Mexico Tours and guide Ene when you visit Mexico City!
Everything went smooth and generally was well organized. Really enjoyed the private tour for 2 of us, getting full attention of the guide and driver. Pick-up was convenient, directly from our hotel. Guide was telling really interesting facts about Teotihuacan and answered our questions. After Pyramids driver dropped us next to Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, where we walked on our own and enjoyed the area. Then driver brought us back to the hotel. Overall tour took around 6 hours.
First of all, I have to thank both our driver Jaime Fernandez and our local guide Israel Alva for making our visit of the Pyramids so exceptional. They were both very friendly, attentive, kind and knowledgeable about the area. The pyramid visit was autstanding and Israel patiently answered all my questions. They then brought us to Pueblo Magico, a boutique where I found all the authentic handicrafts I was looking for. It was great! The owner was very generous. And then Jaime drove us safely back to the hotel among really busy traffic. Thank you to all for a memorable adventure!!!!!
Our tour guide, Patricia, was the best. We loved her personality and humor. This tour was exactly what we were hoping for. She gave us insight into Mexican Culture during our travels. We enjoyed her explanations of the history of Teotihuacan and appreciated how she made sure to separate the facts from the theories. We liked that Patricia modified our tour of Guadalupe based on our architectural interests. Very memorable experience!
Our tour guide and driver Jaime was very knowledgeable , friendly and patient with us. He really took his time to show us around and gave us a lot of information regarding the different sites we visited today . We highly recommend this tour group ( Stepping Mexico ) and especially their tour guide Jaime. I would definitely use them again whenever we get the chance to come back to Mexico City.
We arrived around 9am on a Thursday on our private tour and beat the crowds, which was good to experience the acoustics at the Temple of the Moon and get some good pictures. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the temples and construction and answered all of my many questions. Strongly recommend a guide. Great driver, was friendly and we chatted about life in Mexico. Wonderful experience.
Great day out to visit the Pyramids. We booked our tour with Stepping Mexico and got excellent service. Our driver and guide Jamie were very friendly. When we arrived at the Pyramids we had a different local guide who was very knowledgeable about the area.
Our tour guide, Carlos, did an incredible job all day long. He picked us up promptly at our house in the morning, had water for us. He drove carefully to the venue. once there, he did an incredible job sharing history of the Pyramids and their creation. He also had lots of up to date information to share as well. His english was perfect. We were picked up at 8:00am and were home by 12:00pm for a full day of touring!
This tour was outstanding. The guide was very informative and let us decide when we wanted more detail/time on specific topics. The highlights for me included a demonstration of how the pigments were made and the variety of ways the maguey plants were used. Even if you are not a fan of early starts, I do recommend that to beat the crowds and (seasonally) to beat the heat. A hat and sunscreen is recommended for the tour!
Great experience! Our guides were awesome very knowledgeable and let us ask questions. We were never rushed. We had Ivan and Jaime and we Highly recommend!!
We really enjoyed our trip to the pyramids. Jaime drove the 3 of us to the pyramids and back. He was very friendly and shared a lot of information with us. The tour guide at the pyramids was very knowledgeable and let us proceed at our own pace. We left downtown Mexico City around 8:30 an and arrived around 9:30. When we left a couple hours later, it was getting hot and the lines were getting long. Our timing was great. On the way back, Jaime agreed to drop us off at a restaurant in old México City rather than our hotel. We had a wonderful meal. Appreciate all the warmth and information.
Our driver and tour guide, Derek was amazing. My husband got sick on the day of our tour and she was so kind to change our tour for the next day. I 100% recommend this tour agency and Derek.
Our guide Esly was excellent as was Irwin at the pyramids. Friendly, knowledgeable, engaging. Highly recommend.
Our private tour was wonderful and our guide was very knowledgeable. Derek picked us up promptly from our hotel and drove us to the pyramids where we spent 3 hours learning all about the ancient civilization. I highly recommend touring the pyramids before going to the Anthropology museum as you will have more context for what you'll see at the museum. We went to the pyramids on a Friday and it wasn't crowded. A wonderful experience for me and my husband!
Jamie was a lot of fun and made the trip to the pyramids very informative. Once we arrived, our guide, Ivan, gave just the right amount of history of the pyramids. Although I’m one that doesn’t like to get bogged down with too many details, having a guide for the pyramids is a must to get a full understanding of the magnitude of what you are seeing. Ivan provided just the right amount. Jamie took us to the Maria De Guadalupe basilica and knew exactly what to do for us to get the most out of it and beat the crowds. He also got an excellent group pic of us under the shroud.
Carlos was excellent. Knowledgeable and concise. The whole family of 5 really enjoyed the tours and had a great day.
Ivan was an incredible tour guide! Having a tour guide who is passionate about the ruins, able to answer questions, and provide us with an exceptional tour with insightful information makes for a wonderful experience. We feel so lucky to have been guided by Ivan and we hope that others would consider him greatly when booking a tour of Teotihuacan!
This was the highlight of our trip! Patricia was fantastic - she responded quickly when I let her know we had changed our pickup address, she was perfectly on time, and as a history teacher, had SO MUCH to share about the culture and the pyramids. And because it was a private tour (highly recommended!) she was able to drop us off at the end in her favorite neighborhood and tell us what to see and what to eat. She was fantastic and all we saw was amazing. Definitely do this!
Excellent knowledge of the pyramids and the surrounding area plus the indigenous plants in the area.
Jaime provided my father and I an excellent tour of Teotihuacan and the Basicalla. He picked us up at our hotel on time, provided us information during the entire trip and really made the entire experience very special. His knowledge of the area and friendly personality made the tour a wonderful experience. I highly recommend this tour and Jaime.
We had a wonderful time on our tour with Jose Luis. He is extremely professional and his knowledge of the history of the sites we visited was impressive. Jose Luis was very engaging, and although he's done this tour many many times, his does not feel like a by rote lecture - rather he engaged in a conversation with us and shared his vast knowledge. His English is perfect, his car was clean and safe and in addition to the info about the tours, he shared lots of other local details which was fun.
The driver was prompt and cared. Our tour guide Ivan was very knowledgable in different perspectives and he shared local passed down histories and stories with us which was very exciting to find out. He was extremely friendly and coincidently lived near our home in the past so we got along we well.
Our tours were week organized and informative. We enjoyed the snake provided and benefited from restaurant recommendations. We asked for Jaime on all our tours.
Our driver Jaime and our guide at Teotihuacan were friendly, knowledgeable and provided great historical context of both Teotihuacan and the Basilica de Maria Guadalupe. We highly recommend them!
I booked a private tour for Pyramids of Teotihucan. The driver, Armando was great. He picked us up in time and he let us know there would be a local tour guide to take us on the tour. Eliasel was not there when we arrived but he did come about 10 minutes after we arrived. I had to use the restroom and he was standing with my daughters and he was talking to them about the Pyramids. He did not wait until I came back to start. As we went into the Pyramids he spoke very softly and the information he was giving us about the Pyramids was like a poor teacher. He lacked enthusiasm and I think I would have understood and learned more from looking up on the internet about Teotihuacan which I did when I stopped and sat down. When we asked some questions he said - as I said before. Which really was off putting. He lacked organization. At the end we were brought to a store and he explained about the rocks and stones that were in Teotihuacan. And then lead us into a store where they were pressuring us to buy. But I have to say the driver was wonderful and he would have made a better tour guide than the person we had.
This tour was one of the highlights of our trip in Mexico City. We learned a lot and Mercedes made it fun and memorable!
Absolutely amazing, Carlos was a great guide with lots of facts, perfect pick up and drop off. Highly recommended.
We had a tour on Monday March 13 with a company called “Stepping Mexico”. This was the first time we booked an activity on Tripadvisor. Based on our experience, this will be the last one as well. The trip had two parts: first a visit to the Pyramids of Teotihuacan, and after that a visit to the Basilica de Santa Maria de Guadalupe. The first part, the Pyramids of Teotihuacan tour, was very short. Our driver took us to Entrance 3 and handed us over to a local guide. The guide had a barely understandable English, and he did not seem to be particularly knowledgeable about the site. The Google map I enclosed shows the approximate route we had taken with him from the Pirámide de la Luna to the Pirámide del Sol. According to the time stamps of our photographs, the whole tour took about 1 hour. The driver picked us up at Entrance 2. The next day, when we visited the Museo Nacional de Antropologia, we realized that we entirely missed the rest of the site, including the Templo de Quetzalcóatl. The second part, the visit to the Basilica de Santa Maria de Guadalupe, was excellent. Our driver had good English and he knew a lot about the place. That justifies the 2/5 points. The reader may look at the other reviews I wrote about our one-week trip to Mexico City. We had a great time partly because we planned our trip carefully and we paid attention to every detail. It was only the Pyramids Tour when we relied on a professional tour guide company. For the amount of money we paid, we expected much much more than a brief stroll between two pyramids.
We requested Jame as our guide because he was so informative, generous, and fun on a previous tour. We had another guide specifically for the archeological site and it made the experience so much more enriching than if we would have gone on our own. The site itself is amazing and shows the immense skill in architecture and art of the people who built it. I really loved that they took the time to give a demonstration of the minerals used and mined in the region. The tour of the Basilica of Maria de Guadalupe was very beautiful and interesting too. Absolutely worth it and then some!
Great driver and comfortable ride in a Suburban to the site. Our guide at the Pyramids expertly shared the background on site.
This was my third visit to the pyramids, but Joel, our guide was the most informative of all of the guides I’ve worked with. We had an excellent driver who was punctual and even fit in a brief stop at the Basilica of Guadalupe on the way back to the hotel. With just my wife and me, we didn’t have to deal with the usual tourist bus drama. There was the obligatory obsidian market/pulque tasting stop, but it was as low pressure as it could get and very educational. We highly recommend this way to visit the pyramids.
We really enjoyed the tour! The driver Patty was very friendly and knowledgeable. The Teotihuacan tour guide was excellent as well. Gave us perfect spots for photos
Our driver and guide were wonderful. They had a fantastic knowledge of the history of Teotihuacan and the science behind the architecture. We even got to meet local craftsmen and the ladies made gorgeous jewelry. Highly recommend this tour!
Lack of interest from the guide and had little to say about the history of the pyramids. The driver who took us to the pyramids from Mexico City was very professional.
This was a great day. We had a blast! Patricia was amazing and made us feel like family. It was probably the best day of our trip. Full of information and we laughed a lot. If you get the chance, request Patricia if she’s available. You will have a great time!!
I took a private tour to the Teotihuacan Pyramids, what I liked the most was the way in which Mercedes explained the history behind this landmark. Instead of focusing on the traditional view, she took an alternative approach underscoring lesser-known facts in what could be deemed as side B of history. I had a wonderful time and I recommend it to anyone visiting the pyramids. Carlos A. from Colombia
Maria was our guide for a private tour of the Pyramids of Teotihuacan. Maria was wonderful - so friendly, very knowledgeable and quite flexible, given a time constraint of ours. We loved the way she shared information not only of the Pyramids, but also Mexico City, the people, the food, the culture. She just seemed so generous with her time and talents - and even made us a delicious boxed lunch, complete with refreshing juice, to eat on the road. We highly recommend Maria, would absolutely use her services again and refer her to everyone we know!
The tour guide never showed up and I never received my promised refund. It was past time for us to meet and the tour guide never showed up. I called the tour company and he told me that he would send somebody and I would pay them directly and he would refund my money. Fool me once.... It's been a month and I am still waiting for my refund.
When booking we saw great reviews but unfortunately maybe we got unlucky with a guide that barely spoke any English. She was lovely but we didn’t get to learn much about the pyramids and she didn’t understand our questions so it was disappointing for us. Additionally we expected a much longer tour - the entire thing was about an hour of touring and 2 hour of driving. We were told we wouldn’t be back until 4pm but we were told the tour was over at 11:30am. We had to ask to go to lunch to extend it a little bit and we never receive the “snacks” or bottled water that was supposed to be included. Driver and tour guide were very nice people but this did not meet expectations for the actual tour.
My husband and I really enjoyed this trip—not only did we tour the pyramids, but we had a fascinating visit to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe. First off, there is so much archeological information to absorb at Teotihuacana; if hadn’t been for our local guide, much of it would have been lost on us. Our driver, Jaime, was also super informative—both as we drove to the pyramids and on our way back to Mexico City—pointing out different historical and cultural sites as well as giving recommendations of other neighborhoods for the remainder of our trip. He brought us to the famed church (a huge complex of churches, really) which was built in honor of Saint Mary of Guadalupe—again, had it not been for his in-depth knowledge and personal anecdotes (he grew up visiting the place himself), a lot of it would have been lost on us. After we walked around for an hour or so, I certainly had a deeper sense of the shrine’s significance. All that aside, Jaime is funny and fun and you will have a great time on the tour. We even received beautiful hand-woven change purses as parting gifts. A well worthwhile six-hour excursion when visiting Mexico City!
Our guide Adrian picked us up at our apartment and gave us lots of history on Teotihuacan during our drive there. Once we arrived another guide Eleazar took us through the archaeological site and gave us a full commentary on its history, pointing out interesting features. The pyramids are breath-taking and were a highlight of our trip to Mexico City. Unfortunately the museum at the site was unexpectedly closed. We then visited a nearby shop where Eleazar demonstrated the uses of the agave plant and the various precious rocks used by the ancient cultures. We had a chance to taste prickly pear wine and Mezcal. Our final stop was the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe which is the place where the Virgin Mary appeared to a peasant. It is a highly visited Marian pilgrimage site second only to St. Peter's in Rome. Adrian took us fully through both the old and new churches and even though a wedding was taking place in the new church he took us to a moving walkway underneath the altar where we could see the original painting of Mary of Guadalupe. This tour was comprehensive in the variety of cultural areas it explored. We would have liked more time to fully visit the third pyramid, Temple of Quetzalcóatl but we don't think many tours include this.
Everything was wonderful! It was a wonderful tour not just of the ruins but they really brought the culture to life. They showed me all sorts of ways to use agave from paper to clothing (and yes, to drink).
I had a great time! Derek was a great driver, she had plenty of information about Mexico City and explained all about the area as we drove to the pyramids. I wanted to spend more time at Teotihuacan and she told me not to worry about anything, take as much time as I wanted. The guide that they provided spoke good English and gave me a good rundown of the history of the site. After he provided his tour I was free to explore, which was cool because I wanted to take my time and got some good pictures. The Basilica was very cool as well and Derek gave me a great history of it as we drove back from Teotihuacan. The only suggestion I would make to the tour company is to have an option for longer, more detailed guide at Teotihuacan. The guide's tour onsite was an hour and that's probably about right for most people, but I would have enjoyed a more detailed, 2-hour guide around Teotihuacan. That didn't detract from how much I enjoyed the tour though, and I would highly recommend this to anyone.
Didier and our driver were both exceptional. The Teotihuacan tour was the highlight of our visit to Mexico City.
Elias was our tour guide for the pyramids. Although he was very enthusiastic and personable, he really didn't have the knowledge we were expecting. He admitted that he was learning and studying about Teotihuacan and was very excited about it, but he didn't give us any history or cultural information that wasn't generalized. He did take us to a cave at the end of the tour. We didn't have any guide at the Basilica, so we had to figure it out on our own after we were dropped off. Our driver was very pleasant, but didn't speak English. He did tell us about the city as we drove to both places. It was still an interesting trip (how can it not be at these awesome pyramids), just not quite what we were expecting.
