The Cholula/Puebla day trip was three hours late returning to Mexico City. Everyone else on the bus was dropped off at their hotel. I expected to be dropped off at my pick-up spot as promised. After the other passengers were dropped off the tour operator advised the bus was not proceeding any further due to claimed heavy traffic in the area and insisted I leave the bus. I was a visitor to Mexico City and was not familiar with the area. I had a general idea I was approximately three to four kilometers from my pick-up spot. The tour guide made no effort to arrange for alternate transportation or give advice on how to get back to my pick-up spot. It was a very stressful experience getting back to my hotel. The visit to Cholula began with a rushed visit to a church which involved more walking than time in the church. The visit to the Cholula Pyramid did not include any time in the museum or at the top of the pyramid. The tour guide did present some information about excavated structures at the base of the pyramid. The visit to Puebla began with dinner (which I paid for separately) at a restaurant selected by the tour. I thought the food was mediocre and the atmosphere cramped and uncomfortable. We spent some time inside a cathedral which was somewhat interesting. The rest of the Puebla tour consisted of following the tour guide down crowded sidewalks and attempting to listen to short snippets about different buildings. We had to walk an extra long distance to get back to our bus which could not meet us in town because it was boxed in in its parking space. This was the worst tour I have ever taken in my life. The company has been extremely unsympathetic in responding to my complaints. I would avoid dealing with this company at any cost.

Our guide Humberto was great, he provided a lot of context. The lunch buffet was very tasty. Totally worth it!
The trip was nice., The tour guide was nice and friendly. Overall trip was nice, we enjoyed very much. Cholula pyramid trip was nice experience. Having visited the churches were fabulous experience. Puebla was a beautiful experience.
Gabriela was amazing! She made the tour very much enjoyable and personable. She went above and beyond to make us feel at home. Although, the drive can feel long, it's a great opportunity to get out of the city and enjoy the mexican views. Puebla is a beautiful state with lots to offer.
Puebla and Cholula were simply stunning and the guides made sure we saw only the best during our tour. Our guide could speak spoke Spanish and English which was absolutely incredible
This tour was great! Most of the people in our group spoke Spanish, but the guide still explained everything in English for us. He also answered all our questions in great detail, which was really helpful. We had about 90 minutes at the pyramid, which was totally enough. It’s just a bit disappointing that the tunnel was still closed. The included meal was pretty standard for a day tour in Mexico, so don’t expect anything too fancy or delicious. Since I was traveling solo, I really appreciated how friendly the other group members were. They helped me take pictures, and even the tour guide did too! Overall, I’m really happy I joined this tour, and it was lovely meeting some group members from Colombia!
Our tour guide did not let us look around Cholula or Puebla. The trip felt rushed and some were complaining because he didn't let us roam around. Most tour guides have a meeting point to meet back at a certain time to let the tourist shop or sightseeing but not this tour guide. Some people still roamed around as he showed us a 5th Church and he said next time we roam around like that he will move on and we can take another bus because he will not wait for us.
Great service and attention to detail. The tour guide and driver were very attentive and cordial. I would take a tour with mexitours again.
This day trip covers a lot of ground. Do not expect to see any of Cholula's many architectural splendors or local town's charm its zocolo, for example). What you will see is the enormous pyramid topped with and enormous colonial church. You will see some of Puebla's considerable beauty, but time is limited due to the amount of ground covered. The guide and driver are genial.
We saw Cholula a little bit of Pueblo but honestly it was kind of a mess. The agenda was too ambitious and not well organized--multiple items had to be removed from our itinerary. I liked the tour guide, but I think it was just too many people for him to manage.
Disjointed, unorganized mess of a trip with a tour guide that just never stopped talking about any and everything. The included lunch will certainly not appeal to everyone because of the limited selections. Nice van and safe driver, but all in all it was worth it once we finally got underway.
Thank you for this great experience, I recommend Mexitours to take a tour and get out of the routine. I definitely recommend it
Our guide Rogelio was an outstanding, friendly and informative guide to Puebla and Cholula, The adventure is a little long and I would probably recommend leaving out Cholula which was okay but the high point of the excursion is beautiful and charming Puebla with it's churches, central square, charming streets and people
Puebla and Cholula was a different side of Mexico that I had not experienced before. Long but enjoyable trip, knowledgeable and friendly guide. Many bathroom breaks. We were very disappointed by the puffer lunch that was an optional part of the package. Food was blah, service slow, I ordered a glass of wine that never came. However the man who played guitar and sang during lunch was very talented! We loved him.
Great experience , the tour guy was friendly and provided good information . Very puntual and able to provide suggestions. I felt good and safe all the time
We did NOT go on this Tour, because our Tour Guide never changed our "PICK UP Location" on our CONTRACT. We set everything up with Viator Representatives and were assured that ALL the Pick Up locations were Confirmed. Early in the morning, we arrived at the "Pick Up" location that was on our contract and then were told that we were in the WRONG location!! There was no way that we could UBER to the other location in time to get picked up, so we missed this Tour and then was told by Viator that we would still be charged. I was totally upset and reported this to my credit card company. If the pick up location was wrong, then it should NEVER have been on my contract as a Confirmed Location. So be sure to TRIPLE CHECK all your Pick Up locations, even if they are on your contract!!!
Very disappointing, left 45 late and got back 3 hours late. The “bilingual” guide knew very little English and didn’t explain well. We only saw two churches in Puebla and skipped the rich cultural heritage. Mini buse was crowded, hot and zero leg room. Tour from hell.
Spent most of the day on a bus. Tour lasted over 13 hrs, because of bad traffic. We also left late. Had to wait 30 min in the sun, the meeting point was tough to find as well, and many tourists were lost. I booked an English tour, but it ended up being bilingual, or rather 95% Spanish. I learned nothing from the tour guide. When we finally got to Cholula, he would not allow us to go up the pyramid & see the church on top, like other tours. The bus was so bouncy my son got carsick, and constant gas fumes as well. We were dropped off back at the meeting place just after 10pm
The tour was disorganized, left 45 min late. Returned 3 hours late. The tour guide had terrible English, translated less than 10% of the explanations. Lunch was good and the Rosary church beautiful. The Puebla visit did not represent the cultural richness of Puebla. I would not recommend it.
The hotel pick up worked perfectly with both driver and guide eager to answer questions about things we saw along the way to the assembly point. The drive to Puebla was about 2+ hours each way and took us through a part of Mexico City we won't rush to but accentuated the sheer size and scope of one of the largest cities in the world. Once we left the valley, we drove on a highway that took us through pine forests and evidence of multiple wildland fires before dropping down into the Puebla area. The tour planned a rest break in both directions at the 80-90 minute mark - essential for older travelers like us. Stops included a unique church, and the Aztec historical site before heading to a late lunch at the Hotel Colonial which was a historical landmark. The lunch was average but we got very attentive service. We then took a walking tour of downtown Puebla and walked through their version of Barcelona's La Rambla including a stop at a world famous ceramics factory. Gaby, our guide, was a wealth of information throughout the day and helped us find our way back to our hotel because the Historic Quarter streets were block due to a free concert in Zocalo, very close to our Hampton Inns hotel. The tour includes more walking than you might expect (3+ miles). Gaby was one of the best and most attentive guides we have had when visiting 40+ countries. Ask for her when you can. While the day was long, we felt it was a highlight of our 10 days in Mexico City.
Horribly disorganized! Awful communication between driver and guide. We wasted at least 3 hours waiting for the bus (20min one stop; 40 at another; up to an hour at the final stop). We were rushed through the archaeological site and then waited more than 30 min on the sidewalk for the bus to come. The tour could have been amazing but what I assume was bad communication between the guide and driver made for a frustrating day
A professional driver and energetic and knowledgeable guide took us on a journey of discovery through the beautiful colorful and colonial city of Puebla and the intriguing Pre-Columbian ruins at Cholula. The drive over the mountains was also spectacular!
I think the success of this tour completely depends on the group of people you get placed with on the day. Unfortunately our tour started late due to people not getting to the meet point at the designated time of 08.45am. We didn’t end up leaving until gone 09.15am. The first drive of the day was between 2hrs45mins and 3hours long - which wasn’t communicated to us by the guide or driver (might have been longer due to a road traffic accident on route and the fact that people in our group wanted a toilet stop/snack stop). This meant that some of our time at the first stops were a little bit rushed. The microphone in the bus wasn’t the clearest and was droned out by the loudness of the Mexican roads, which meant that the information the guide was trying to communicate wasn’t always received clearly. Some people on our bus wanted to go to a museum in Puebla which wasn’t on the itinerary and kept going on about that which I think threw our guide off a little. The positives from the tour was visiting the beautiful churches and cathedrals, the markets (although we didn’t have much shopping time - I think this again was due to the delayed start and slow walkers in our group), the lunch (paid extra) was sizeable - 4 courses (bread, onion soup, main (choice of 3, we went for chicken and chips) and then an ice cream desert. Drinks were a paid extra but comparable to the rest of the restaurants we’ve experienced in Mexico City. The guide was also personable, most of the tour group were Spanish speakers, however the guide kept pulling me and my friend aside to communicate to us in our language preference of English. The guide was also good at taking some candid photos, which he was happy to share. The last positive was the flexibility of drop off points at the end of the day. Wishes to make the tour better: more shopping time (we only received 30mins at the end of the day), prior notification to have pesos only as the markets/shops didn’t like accepting USD (unlike in Mexico City) and more communication regarding timings. Overall, we are glad we experienced this day trip and got to see some other parts of Mexico. (We booked through get your guide)
I will not recommend this tour at all.The tour guide sent me an email stating to pick up from the hotel at 8:30, but did not show up interest 9:15. Then we had to walk 10 mins to the bus. The bus left at 9:40. Then we arrived at the first site close to 1:00 pm. Three persons were missing and we waited extra an hour. The bus did not return untill 10:30 pm. The actual tour time is about 3 hours maximum. To be fair the guide tried his best. Unfortunately most people in group speak spanish. The three missing persons did not speak spanish, neither us. This is one of the reasons they were not able to follow llthe group and left in the first site. I really feel sorry for them. I am not able to imagine how they get back to Mexico City.
Let’s start with the bad related to this tour. We were picked up at our hotel at 8.15 and did not get back until after 8pm as traffic out of Mexico City is horrible, and no fault of the tour company. It makes for an incredibly long day when the tour is not great to begin with. We arrived at Cholula ruins and cathedral at noon. If you want to see pyramids do the tour of Teotihuacan which are more impressive. Our guide wanted our group to vote on whether to take free time to climb to top of pyramid where cathedral is located. This was after we were promised free time on the site, and I’m sorry but it is disrespectful not ask for a vote when the best thing at Cholula is the view from the top. Very disrespectful and we would have told guide to grow up if we had not been able to ascend the pyramid to see cathedral. Next was off to Puebla where we spent over an hour in the van with high heat and no air conditioner access. The guide said sorry he didn’t know. That should be a rule of thumb to check van equipment before putting people in essentially an oven at mid day. We arrive in Puebla for the included lunch which was lackluster to say the least. Not impressed. You get dry baked chicken, or two small slices of tough pork cutlet, or mole poblano which does not describe its with chicken quarters. The ice cream at end was cheap and disgusting. The onion soup and bread were the best items offered. We then had a quick walk through town to a cathedral were our guide asked another guide to give a tour and then asked our group to top the guy, pretty unprofessional for a tour guide to ask a group to tip someone else and then he seemed upset with the Latina women who wouldn’t tip on the group, and tried to call them back saying, “chicas!” We were the taken to a talavera to see pottery video and to buy items. That is all this is about….a push for tourists to buy. The tour promises you will see onyx factories and the guide pretended to not know what we were asking when we inquired. The tour group should not include in this description if not being offered. It takes about two and a half hours to get back to Mexico city. That’s the time so nothing to complain about. The bus speaker system is staticky and still needs replacement. The good thing is on the drive you see volcanoes that likely will be smoking and Cholula is beautiful view at the top. The best part of the tour was when it was over. I’m glad this was not our first tour or experience in Mexico city. Best recommendation, do something besides this tour.
We were picked up and went to a place were several other buses had picked up passengers for various tours. Apparently, one driver didn't show up for work which meant more waiting to pick up more passengers as well as one less bus. The company took a full hour to figure out how to do their schedules and we had to go back to their main terminal to change into a larger bus. Because of this, we saw almost nothing in Puebla as they ran out of time.
The trip was very nice. We could visit Choula piramid as well as the nice city of Puebla, which is really worth a visit. Very nice places and guide.
We were supposed to have been picked up from our hotel at 9am, it was confirmed in writing. We were waiting from 8.40 until 9.20am, at which point we called, but were told that the pick up had already happened at 8 ish, this mistake on their part could have been resolved if someone had just called as we were waiting at the hotel. we asked for a refund over the phone, and were told this would be organised, its a month later so i have asked again via the website and the operator said they wouldn't honor it. looking at other reviews it seems this happens all the time... is this a scam?? I will now have to try reporting it to my credit card provider. Very expensive mistake, should have read the reviews
There are much better day trips to take. There is not much to see archaeologically at Cholula, and you won't have more than a few hours in Puebla to walk around, and you'll spend around 6 to 7 hours of driving there and back. Be warned.
The trip was badly delayed in leaving so we were 1hr 15 on the bus before it even left Mexico City. This meant we were very late arriving at the first church so there was a mass in progress and we weren’t allowed in. We hadn’t been told the pyramid tunnels were closed so we had an extremely long day to spend 1 hour at the pyramid. We finally arrived for lunch at 4pm. We didn’t partake of the precooked lunch but everyone said it was poor. The market in Puebla was closed so there was no chance to go shopping. We complained and the guide agreed to drop us off first on our return but it was nearly 12 hours start to finish. The guide was good but really, the organisation and communication on the day was poor.
Hello, first of all thank you on our tour guide Sergio. He was fantastic. We did the Cholula and Puebla day trip. It was really interesting to hear everything about the mayas and some of the cultures of Mexico/Puebla.
My husband and I were incredibly excited to go on this tour, but unfortunately we never made it. We picked up at 8:15 and driven to another location where we were supposed to meet up with the tour bus. The tour was scheduled to begin at 9am. The tour operators spent a long time walking around and talking on the phone before they finally returned and asked us if we would be okay sitting in the front and middle seats of another bus, next to the driver. They essentially wanted to fit us onto a different bus so they wouldn't have to take a second one. We agreed to this, however, the second bus never came. Eventually, we were told the second bus was going to pick us up from a different location, so we were driven there. Once we arrived to that location, we again had to wait around on the bus that was supposedly picking us up. The tour operator was on the phone a lot again and didn't seem to know where the bus was. He kept saying they'll be here in 5 minutes, but 10 would go by and it would not arrive. Finally, it was around 10am when we opted to skip the tour altogether. It was a 2-hour one-way drive to the tour destination, and was supposed to be a 10-12 hour tour. That would have put us back in the city at 10pm, which we did not want to do. They agreed to issue us a refund which we requested through Viator and did receive nearly immediately, so that was good. That being said, they did not even offer to drive us back to our hotel. We ended up walking from the pick-up spot and finding our way back to our hotel on foot. I will say that everyone we dealt with was very nice, including the drivers and the woman who appeared to be the one coordinating the plans. That being said, they should have known well in advance how many people would be on the tour, and coordinated how many buses they would need and where the pick-up locations/times for each bus were going to be well in advance. There was no excuse for us having to get up at 6am to get ready to be picked up for a tour at 8am that was supposed to begin at 9am, and then driving us to multiple locations and have us still waiting around at 10am. Very uncoordinated, very poor customer experience.
It was a very nice tour. We saw many historic churches. It was a whole day event so I recommend this only if you want to spend the entire day visiting different towns in Mexico. Puebla is very beautiful.
Visit of Puebla was very good but it's a pity to start the visit of the talavera factory. The lunch was very good and Cholula would have needed more time to visit especially the village We spent a nice Day trip
It was great. Just one issue on the last stop due to the time wasted in Puebla awaiting for the driver. Rather than that, it was great
The site at Cholulu and historic Puebla. However, my tickets stated 900 a.m. and I had said the four seasons hotel across the street from the Ritz Carlton where I was staying, but the pick up time was never sent to me. It actually was 8:15am!! Also, 13 hours is too long and there was a lot of wasted time. My friend and I were the only English speakers of the 16 in the group. The bad microphone is not loud enough to hear. Also once the explanation was given in Spanish everyone began speaking about it while the guy was trying to repeat it in English. It doesn’t work. When I signed up for the tour online in the states I specifically said English. I do complement Francisco for doing the best he could with a group that were not very disciplined in time or gathering.
Our tour guide, Gabriela was amazing! She was very knowledgeable and caring. The stops were amazing!
The towns are beautiful , magical. Impressive history, the churches took ur breath away. The food was great that came with the package.
The trip would be chaotic and poorly organized. I understand that the driver was also a guide, so it was difficult. The guide never said exactly what time the departure was, so it was still waiting. In Cholula we waited for an hour for tickets and in the end we saw the arena only behind the fence. We wanted to go to the temple on the hill, but we wouldn't make it because it was only 15 minutes of free time. Finally, we waited an hour for departure. In Puebla we spent the most time in a restaurant, we went on a tour of the city when it was getting dark. We didn't see anything from the city except the temple. We spent 1 hour in the pottery workshop. The trip was extremely long and boring, we saw almost nothing. It was a waste of time. I do not highly recommend this agency.
Erik out tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The mole poblano at the restaurant was amazing. I would recommend this tour to everyone.
In traffic for 10 hours, tour ended upbeing only 4 hours and guide decided to go to "palace, which wasn't part of tour which added 1.5 hours and a total waste if time. Lunch ended up being dinner and we rushed through Pueblo which was the best part.
The tour is good, but it was rushed through the cities and lunch took too long. Maybe time change to earlier, so we can really enjoy the tour. Our tour guide Javier really tried to get us to see everything.
Our guide Xavier, thank you :) Maybe too much time driving, less time at objects, but that's the trip.
We had an amazing time in Puebla and Cholula. Jaime is a great tour guide. He knows what he is talking about, we felt safe with him. He showed us many things. He was so helpful. We recommend Jaime for a tour.
Had a great time seeing the Cholula ruins and the Puebla city walk. Jaime was a good guide and he drove us safely.
Great day tour to Puebla and Cholula. The guide was interesting and let us the necessary free time to also discover the places by ourselves. We recommend it!
It was a very good experience for me. The tour was well organised and the guide (Migul) was so professional with lots of information to share. The walks of the tunnels of the pyramid was so amazing, and the choice of restaurant for the dinner was superb. Highly recommended
A disappointing day. Drive to Cholula was fine with a pit stop for restroom and refreshments. However when we got to the archeological site our guide did not through the tunnel with us so we got no explanation of anything like the group in front of us did. Once we met guide on other side he spent 90% of his time explaining features in Spanish and expected the English speaking clients to stand and wait for a very brief explanation leaving us little time for pictures or to read the placards that gave a more thorough explanation. Spanish group got additional time to climb up hill to see church on top of pyramid where as English speaking group only had time to run up and back to make it down by departure time. From here we went to Puebla which seems to be a charming city. The church we went to was beautiful but little explanation in English. Lunch was quite good but from here we went to the most disappointing craft market I have ever experienced, almost everything their was junk, vendors were even rude! 3 hour ride back to city without a bathroom stop. I would not reccomend using Mexitours, especially if it is a bilingual tour.
I never went cancelled in time but were never issued a refund. I'll never use Viator again. I've called customer support multiple times but was told that even though I called when 24 hours if had to be 24 hours before the actual 24 hours. Yes I know it sounds crazy that's the same exact thing I said. I'll never use or reccomend Viator.
A very full day that started at 08:15 and went well after 20:00. The van was comfortable and meeting new people (both English and Spanish speaking) was very pleasant. A beautiful drive through the pine-forested mountains with views of Iztaccíhuatl. It was MUCH appreciated that plenty of opportunities for bathroom and water breaks were provided. Cholula is a delightful town in and of itself, however, the "pyramid" and the Church of Our Lady of Remedies on top were great. Please be advised that you will be disappointed not to find much of an actual stonework pyramid. The original structure is still there but has been buried by centuries of dirt, but you will realize that the structure underneath is massive. The trip to the top (where the Church is) can be gruelling. The path is very long and steep but it is a good surface and the views from the top should NOT be missed. Where to start with Puebla. As much as you will see on the tour, it will only lead you to realize that you could spend days in this city. Several beautiful and historic churches, wonderful paseos and shopping areas, a vibrant central plaza, great food and wonderful people. We headed back home at 5 PM totally exhausted but well satisfied. The tour company will pick you up and return to your hotel, but it might be easier to Uber to the central departure point as you may be the last one delivered back after the trip. That may add as much as an hour or more to you day and you will be tired.
