We booked this as a private tour with a guide, listed with five stops. In practice it did not match the listing. - Two of the five listed stops (Coyoacán and UNAM Central Library) were skipped, with no explanation or apology. - The guide gave us only a basic introduction before each stop. Apart from the boat ride, she never came inside any of the places with us and told us to meet her outside. We had to wait for her and contact customer support after each activity to fnd out where she was or get her to come and pick us up from the location we'd previously agreed. Nothing was explained in any detail. - Much of the time was spent with the guide chatting to the driver rather than telling us about the places. - We were told we "should" tip the boat staff, which felt pressured. The places themselves (Xochimilco, the Frida Kahlo Museum and the Anahuacalli) are well worth seeing, but we paid for a guided tour and did not really get one. Not recommended at this price.

Itinerary
This working in southern Mexico City gives way to the famous canals of Xochimilco, the last remnants of an enormous system to transport water that the Aztecs built. You can take walks in colorful boats similar to the gondolas while they pass browsing food vendors, artisans and mariachis.
Located in one of the most beautiful and oldest neighborhoods of Mexico City, the Blue House was converted into a museum in 1958, four years after the death of the painter. Today it is one of the busiest museums in the Mexican capital.
Coyoacán represents the "place of those who have or own coyotes", from three Nahua voices: coyotl (coyote), hua (possession) and can (place). The term coyoacanense, arose between the seventh and twelfth centuries AD, stage in which the site would have been founded, according to the parameters set by various historians and chroniclers
Throughout his life, Diego Rivera gathered an impressive collection of pre-Hispanic figures, which he called "idolaje". The painter conceived the idea of making a construction that would house these pieces and was, likewise, a livable artistic work.
On September 22, 1910, as President Porfirio Díaz Mori, the National University of Mexico was inaugurated, in compliance with the decree of May 16 of that year that formalized its Constitutive Law presented by Justo Sierra Méndez, 18 a law that did not give him the autonomous character that would acquire until May 28, 1929 when President Emilio Portes Gil granted it19 and authorized the construction of University City. The first rector was Joaquín Eguía Lis. The project of creation of the University, although without an immediate result, was proposed by Justo Sierra in 1881, being deputy and with the intention of counteracting the educational problem. The purpose of Sierra was materialized in 1910 with the inaugural act of the National University of Mexico, in the amphitheater of the National Preparatory School. At this time, being Secretary of Public Instruction and Fine Arts, Sierra, expressed in his speech, that the educational and scientific objective that the National University should concentrate, systematize and disseminate among the Mexican people, was to prepare for the future.

Great experience. Tour director was knowledgeable and showed us the sites. Information was provided.
Marta and Antonio were fantastic. We had a lovely day and appreciate their flexibility as we were traveling with young kids.
There are two main aspects to this tour: the boat ride in Xochimilco and visiting the Frida Kahlo Museum. The boat ride itself was enjoyable, but the major issue I have is with how the Frida Kahlo Museum portion of the tour is advertised. According to our guide, tickets to the Frida Kahlo Museum sell out weeks in advance. If that is the case, then it seems highly unlikely that this tour can deliver what is advertised unless you book at least 3–4 weeks ahead. Unfortunately, this is not made clear when purchasing the tour. Instead, when tickets are unavailable, the operator offers substitute activities. However, the alternatives offered are nowhere near equal in either experience or monetary value to visiting the Frida Kahlo Museum. In my opinion, it is misleading to sell a tour that prominently includes the museum when the operator likely knows that securing tickets is very difficult unless booked far in advance. Buyers beware: before purchasing, confirm that tickets to the Frida Kahlo Museum have actually been secured. Do not assume that what is advertised will be delivered, and be cautious about accepting substitute activities, as they are likely to be of significantly lower value and quality.
We booked a private tour which was definitely the move. Our driver was Daniel and tour guide was Jorge and both were very accommodating and friendly! The boat ride was so beautiful and relaxing, and Casa Azul and the Anachuacalli Museum were must sees! Overall, great experience!
Jorge and his driver were beyond excellent - he cared and was so knowledgeable about his beautiful home country and we were so honored to get the tour from him! He also shared his favorite quesadilla spot and my family hasn’t stopped talking about them! It was a wonderful day with Jorge and his driver and I’d recommend him to anyone looking to learn more while enjoying!
Awesome experience and such a wonderful tour guide, Martha! We loved the boat ride and the Frida Khalo museum was amazing!
We enjoyed the stops... it was just too much and too long for one day. After booking, we were told the Frida Kahlo museum was not actually available that day. Instead we went to the Diego Rivera studio, which was actually quite interesting (and we isited Casa Azul another day on our own). Our guide was very knowledgable, but gave far, far too much detail in some cases, particularly at the University Library, making the tour much longer and slower than necessary. We also felt pressured to get food in Coyoacan in the late afternoon at end of the tour, which was much later than indicated on the itinerary, throwing off our schedule. The driver was good. Probably they should eliminate one stop from the tour to make it more sensible as a single outing.
We really enjoyed this tour experience with Carlos (guide) and Antonio (driver). Carlos was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and professional. He shared lots of insightful information and was happy to engage in conversation not just about the tour subjects but also Mexico in general, with great tips and suggestions. Muchas gracias!!!
Jorge & Guillermo were fabulous hosts! We saw a lot of places that we otherwise wouldn't have. Xochimilco was a highlight, with a private boat and some mariachi magic! The local food recommends were absolutely delicious. The historical knowledge shared was truly impressive. Having a private tour gave us the flexibility to tailor to our likes, which helped us make the most of the day. All and all, a wonderful tour!
Jorge picked us up at our hotel and took us to different sites around the city. He was very informative and answered all of our questions on the tour. He also recommended some wonderful spots to have lunch and churros. Louis, the driver, was always on time to pick us up from each site and offered us cold water bottles throughout the day. We learned a lot about Mexican art, architecture, and culture. We highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to have a good exposure to the treasures that Mexico City has to offer.
Three of us traveled in a van with our guide Marta and driver Luis. Marta was a history major in CDMX and had a lot of interesting information to share about the murals, Xochimilco, neighborhoods and museums. The tour was in english and she was easily understood. *I would book as early as possible to see the Frida Blue house exhibit otherwise it may not be possible to get tickets to enter. The Anajuacalli Museo was a nice surprise and offers panoramic views at the very top if you don't mind several steps up. I recommend the private tour with Marta anytime. The hotel pickup and drop off, plus excellent taqueria break was a bonus as well. *take at least 5 mexican pesos in case you need to use the bathroom at Xochilmilco.
This was the first trip my husband and I took upon reaching CDMX and we could not rate it more highly! Roberto was a fantastic host and Guillermo was fantastic at navigating city traffic. If you’re thinking of booking- do it!
Bruno and Yair were excellent. Bruno was very knowledgeable and he explained with a lot of detail about the civilization and Mexican history. I would highly recommend them for any tour in the city of Mexico.
The experience was so good and the tour guide was really funny and helpful! He made the trip much better
Bruno accompanied by our driver Christian offered us an amazing day. His English was impeccable. He was extremely knowledgeable about Coyoacán, Xochimilco and the Frida Kahlo museum. They both accommodated our food requests, shopping requests and restroom stops.
Loved this tour back in 2021 so recommended it to our friends and family. However from what I was told the experience was a little different than before. When we went to Xochimilco before the boat tour was great where we saw all including "doll Island" but this time the tour did not go there. This was disappointing to our friends and to me as well for recommending. Also, in our prior tour, we had stopped in Coyoacan and were able to shop at all the curio stands and have lunch but again this tour did not do the same. However the tour guide Marta was well liked by our friends making their experience a pleasant one. Not sure if I would recommend again being I feel like the tour prior was a bit more interesting than the one recently.
We had a great time on this excursion. Jorge was a very knowledgeable guide, flexible, very kind and patient with the children. The driver was also very kind and professional he took us everywhere on time and safely. Thank you both for a great day.
We did a private tour and it was a great experience. We got picked up on time and drove us around to all the sites. I really enjoyed the canals and Frida Kahlo musuem!
Carlo thought us so much about xochimilco, Frida Kahlo, and UNAM! He had thoughtful answers to every question and enthusiastically shared his knowledge. Luis drove us through big city traffic like a pro — efficient but cautious. Xochimilco is a must see and the red house — the Kahlo family house — is a great new addition to the offerings for those interested in Frida Kahlo.
Excellent English speaking guide Bruno and driver Antonio, extremely knowledgeable on local history, art and architecture. In addition to the regular tour we ate in an arts and crafts market near Frida kahlo but the highlight was Museo Anahuacalli. Long trip of 7 hours but very engaging. Loved it.
We had the absolute pleasure of spending the day with George as our tour guide, and he exceeded every expectation we had. From the moment we met him, it was clear that he is not only extremely knowledgeable but also wonderfully personable, kind, and patient. George had a way of explaining history, culture, and local traditions that made everything come alive. He welcomed all of our questions, even those outside the day’s topics, and answered them thoughtfully and with enthusiasm. It was like spending the day with a good friend who also happens to know everything about the city (and country and world!) history. George made sure we were comfortable and tailored the day to our interests while adding his own insightful touches. His patience and kindness never wavered, and his delightful company made the tour one of the highlights of our trip to Mexico City. If you’re considering a tour, I can’t recommend George highly enough. He is a gem of a guide and a true ambassador for the city. You’ll leave with a ton of knowledge …and a belly full of with the best quesadillas. Bonus tip: have the mariachi band sing on your boat! It was so fun and special. There’s also a great market near the Frida museum if you are looking for unique souvenirs and local art.
The trip was fantastic. Our guide Veronica was so enthusiastic and informative and made the trip very special. Would definitely recommend the trip. We had a problem with heavy traffic due to a festival Veronica went above and beyond to solve the issue. Thank you so much.
The boat ride on the canal of Xochimilco was so fun, Coyacan was beautiful and so was La Casa Azul (Frida Kahlo Museum). Our guide, Bruno, was personable, knowledgeable, and very willing to tailor our tour to our desires. Our driver, Mr. Danny, was very helpful and always ready when we were. For example, we didn’t care as much about the Diego Rivera museum as there were only a few unfinished/ blueprint type murals and it was mostly indigenous figures (tons!) that we weren’t as interested in. The building was fascinating, but we were happier to spend more time at the church and park in Coyacan. Favorite part was talking with Bruno and the boat ride. La Casa Azul was beautiful and we enjoyed learning about Friday Kahlo’s life. If Bruno is your guide, you’ll have a great time!
I would have liked to see more of Diego Rivera’s murals rather than going to the museum that housed his collection of archeological works and the works of other artists.
Our tour guide was phenomenal. He was very well-informed and his depth of information was great. We think it was a perfect tour.
Fantastic tour! Ramon was fantastic! He was extremely informative and interesting, as well as being a VERY nice person. He handled our group of 5 Americans (from in our forties, to our seventies) with extreme skill and attention to our needs. The tour was beautifully coordinated with our van driver (thank you Guillermo!) and there truly wasn't a moment of time wasted. I highly recommend this tour!
We love this well-organized private tour. Our guide Veronica was super knowledgeable and entertaining. Our driver Daniel was extremely nice. They made our tour a memorable experience.
Very informative trip. Our guide and driver went above and beyond. Traffic was exceptionally congested and they stayed much longer letting us see everything without cutting it short. Very sweet.
Marta was our guide and Arturo was our driver. I am so glad we booked this, Marta was very informative on the places we saw and gave us a little history along the way. This was worth every peso and more
Our day was wonderful! Veronika was an excellent and delightful guide. We would have liked to get closer to the mosaic at the university.
A great tour with Marta and Monserrat. Marta had great knowledge and explained a lot of the history and culture to us. The tour was punctual and perfectly timed. The schedule order was changed due to traffic which made sense. Would highlight recommend this tour.
Our tour with Mariana was excellent! She taught us so much about the history of CDMX, Xochimilco, Coyoacán, Frida Kahlo and the artwork at UNAM. She also was flexible with the itinerary and helped fit in coffee and taco breaks at our request :) Casa azul was impressive, as expected, but our unexpected highlight of the day was seeing the incredible murals on the UNAM campus, and hearing Mariana’s detailed interpretations. She spoke slowly and clearly in Spanish, which was perfect for our skill level. All in all, a really lovely day!
It was a great experience. We really enjoyed the ride on the boat (trajinera). We drank pulque and listened to mariachi. We lived the Friday Khalo museum ad Diego Rivera’s collection . The murals on the UNAM where incredible amazing we had some churros in Coyoacán. Martha was a great guide. Very patient and knowledgeable and our driver Charlie was great also
Sergio was great and gave us an excellent crash course in Mexican history and beyond - highly recommended - relaxing and good all around tour and good advice for further stay here
Carlos was a great guide and did an excellent job of explaining the history behind every stop. We particularly enjoyed the boat rides, so much fun. I strongly recommend every visitor to take this tour.
Maximo was incredible. We had an incredible tour and time. Absolutely recommend the trip. Can’t wait to come back.
Ramon was incredible! Best part of the trip was that there were no Frida tickets and we got a tour of the National Anthropological Museum instead. Still learned about Frida while on the road even went by the house/museum. Time was much better spent at the anthropl museum though. The walk through the Coyoacān market was neat but too brief. Could have used a couple hours there. Xochimilco is too commercialized at least the main side. Perhaps the eco side is better. The main side is all about party boats. Think Mexican spring break. Boats full of parties blasting music and drinking profusely. Can not imagine what it’s like at night!
This was an excellent private tour. They showed up early, and they had plenty of bottled water for the whole day. We had Bruno as the the tour guide and Arturo as the driver, and they provided two excellent days of touring. (We also did the Teotihaucán/Basílica de Guadalupe tour with them the previous day.) Bruno is very knowledgeable about history, and he did a great job explaining the sites that we visited. My son, a recent college graduate in history, talked non-stop with Bruno about history and archeology. We also had some great discussions about politics, religion, art, and food. I personally really enjoyed ALL the art on this tour-UNAM and Juan O'Gorman, the Diego Rivera Anahuacalli Museum, and of course the Frida Kahlo Museum. We enjoyed eating lunch in the Coyoacán market. This tour was awesome because we never felt rushed or pressured to move to the next site. In my opinion, it's worth the extra money to have the personalized attention and detailed information, and I would highly recommend this tour and this tour group.
Great tour of a few amazing places. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Would highly recommend.
Arturo and Carlos were amazing! Worth every penny to have pick up and their great driving skills and incredible knowledge of the areas we visited. We loved the canals, the museums and the markets!
Our guide Sergio was awesome. Very knowledgeable about everything we were seeing. Took great care of us and allowed us to stop and browse at the stores along the way. He is very funny and made our trip very memorable
Our guide Roberto and driver Carlos provided us with an excellent tour experience. I highly recommend both. Only downside, is tha neither the Frida Kahlo or Diego Rivera museums have much of their art. Both are interesting but the Frida museum is about her life and the Diego museum is about precolumbian art collection he left to the people of Mexico. Their art is not at these museums
The boat ride on Xochimilco was our favorite part of this wonderful tour day, although everything was perfect. Our guide and driver were very accommodating of my husband’s injured foot. Our guide was also very knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend this tour!
Our tour guide and driver were great! They had immense knowledge and made the day very smooth. Highly recommend this tour to do a lot in one day.
The day trip was excellent, so well organised. We saw and experienced everything we wanted to. The highlight was Frida Kahlo’s home. It was wonderful to see. I would highly recommend this trip.
Outstanding in every way ! Ramon's knowledge was boundless - answered every question in detail, and Daniel's driving and the level of comfort were really excellent but relaxed and flexible without being fussy. Ramon's passion for subject and Mexico shines through and his explanations were always to the point and adapted to our interests. Couldn't recommend more highly.
As any resident will tell you, Mexico City can be a tough city to navigate. We spent six days in CDMX, and signing up for a guided tour was one of the best decisions we made. Viator paired us with Roberto (tour guide) and Joel (driver) of the company Mexico Tour Freelance. They were fantastic guides, instructors, and ambassadors for our day of touring. We started the day at UNAM, or the University City, where we saw the famous university library (see photos) and the Olympic stadium adorned with Rivera artwork. From there, we drove to Xochimilco and spent an hour lazily cruising the canals in a trajinera (see photo), taking in the man-made islands and drinking a beer purchased from one of the boat vendors. Note: some trajinera experiences are more of a party — think: tequila, karaoke, live music, etc. This was much more laid-back, which we preferred. Next, to Diego Rivera's famous — if underlooked — Anahuacalli museum, a stunning collection of pre-hispanic sculptures housed in an incredible temple-like structure (see photo). Highly, highly recommend. Finally, we ended in Coyoacán, touring Frida Kahlo's famous blue house and visiting the markets and plaza. Coyoacán feels like an artsy, lively enclave, a town within a city. We could've spent hours more there. Robert was an ideal tour guide for the day. Each stop we made felt like a crash course in history, art, culture, food, but without being overbearing or loading us up with too much info. Can't recommend him and Joel — who flagged down a street vendor at a stop light and bought us a traditional Mexican snack to eat when we got stuck in traffic — highly enough.
I gave it a 4 star as there was a glitch in the system and the frida kahlo tickets were actually not available. The tour operator Luiz called me right away to advise me and profusely apologize. But with these purchases there are no refunds so we went on with whatever we could do. Luiz was extremely nice and He did give me 2 tickets for the next day but we were a total of 4 and so 2 couldn’t go! They did give us an experience to have churros and hot chocolate to compensate but this will always be on our mind that they couldn’t see the museum! Aside from that everything was great! The guide was professional, knowledgeable, spoke amazing English and very very nice. We had a nice memorable day for sure
Amazing full day covering key sites around Mexico City and a short drive to Xochimilco, Well worth the cost and time . We had a great tour guide with driver as a bonus , George and Carlos . We chose the lunch option which was yummy also , stopping at a silver and Obsidian factory Thank you Gentlemen
