The Archaeological Zone of Cholula has three areas enabled for its public visit, firstly the Site Museum of the Archaeological Zone of Cholula with its three permanent exhibition halls; secondly, the route inside the tunnel inside the Great Pyramid that consists of approximately 280 meters of route in the same plane, artificially illuminated and without risks that the visitor may get lost, and finally the so-called open area of the Archaeological Zone of Cholula constituted by the ceremonial patios of the south and the west of the Great Pyramid of Cholula.
The church of Santa María Tonantzintla was declared a historical monument on November 11, 1933; It has four constructive stages that go from s. XVII to XX. It has a simple façade that seems not to announce the profusion of elements that are inside, presenting sculptures of clear indigenous manufacture in three niches at the front, and four in the tower, representing the evangelists carrying the message of God to the four directions.
The Cathedral Basilica of Puebla, as it is known to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception according to its Marian advocation, is the episcopal seat of the Archdiocese of Puebla. It is one of the most important buildings of the historic center declared a World Heritage Site. It has the prerogative of being the first sumptuous temple that under good designs was made in America, consecrated in 1649 it went ahead to the Metropolitan of Mexico that was dedicated in 1653.
The chapel of the Virgen del Rosario is the chapel attached to the Temple of Santo Domingo in the city of Puebla, Mexico. Work of the seventeenth century, the peak of the baroque novohispano, was described at the time as the House of Gold, as well as the eighth wonder of the world by Fray Diego de Gorozpe, in a form of 1690.
The creation of this library was approved by royal decree in December 1647 and reconfirmed by Pope Innocent X in 1648. For more than 360 years, the Palafoxiana Library, has been based in the Old College of San Juan within the Seminary founded by Palafox and Mendoza. Although the construction of the vault, as it is in our days was made in 1773, by Bishop Francisco Fabián y Fuero, who ordered the first two floors of the bookshelf to be erected, which is a fine work of the New Spain cabinetmakers They worked harmoniously the woods of ayacahuite, polocote and cedar. From this period dates the delicate altarpiece where the effigy of the Madonna of Trapani is located, oil that is presumed to be made taking as a model the sculpture that Nino Pisano made of the Virgin in the 14th century. Later, in the nineteenth century, a third level was placed because the number of volumes that were in the library had increased, 4 in fact the library has 45 058 old books.

The place is colorful, vibrant and enjoyable. The ride was comfortable and timely and Gorje was one of the best tour guides we have ever spent time with. Highly recommend!
Tour was good overall, wish more time would have been spent at the pyramids but besides that tour guide was great and driver as well, food was the only part I would change as options where limited and was buffet style
We were really entertained all day by Jorge, hè knew every fact there is to be known about Pueblas history. Daniel our drivers took great care of us and was inctedibly kind
Our tour to Cholula and Puebla was absolutely fantastic! Our guide, Ramon, did an outstanding job—not only showing us all the sights but also explaining everything in a fascinating and engaging way. His deep knowledge and ability to answer all our questions made the experience truly special. Our driver, Enrique, was also excellent—safe and reliable. The entire tour was perfectly organized. We highly recommend this tour operator and would do it again anytime!
Carlos was an excellent guide and very knowledgeable. We learned a lot and had a very enjoyable day.
A friend and I took the tour to Cholula and Puebla on Friday, October 24. We were picked up on time (8:00 am) at our hotel. I believe the drive was about 4 hours to Cholula. Along the way the volcano Popo erupted in the distance - lucky break. We toured the outside of the pyramid but were told the inside was now closed to tourists - boo. Later we toured Puebla and had a nice lunch. A long day, but I wanted to see an area outside Mexico City. Our guide, George, was very knowledge and answered well our many questions. He also supplied us with snacks along the way - a nice bonus. Our driver, Arturo, was excellent - we lived another day. I recommend this tour.
Wonderful day escape from CDMX to explore the beauty of Mexico! Carlos was our guide and he was terrific! Knowledgeable about everything Mexico! Every question we asked, he always had a response for. Since this was a private tour, we were able to modify the itinerary to make sure we could squeeze in a visit to Museo Internacional del Barrocco, which is a must for an architect need like me. Highly recommend this tour! Ask for Carlos as your guide!
This tour had much promise in its advertisement, but it failed to deliver. The pyramid is 90% under the landscape, and you must imagine how it looks. Only a few portions are unearthed and visible. The ad also indicated that you could enter the tunnel system under the pyramid- that is no longer allowed and there was no under pyramid tunnel visit. The cities are charming and the people are very friendly. Most of the tour is spent on the road and is very long due to traffic conditions in CDMX. Disappointing at best....
Highly recommend the tour - both Puebla and Cholula are a must see if visiting CDMX. Overall I would have given this 5 stars, but there was a couple of things that I cannot ignore which is the reason for not excellent score. The main one was our tour guide - although he was very attentive and knowledgeable, his limitation in terms of English vocabulary made the experience not as enjoyable as it could have been. As someone for whom English is a foreign language as well, I understand the challenge involved with speaking in a different language, but for a tour guide good handle of this is a must. The second one was the place selected for lunch - given the abundance of excellent restaurants and spectacular Mexican cuisine, it is a shame to choose such an average place for lunch. Aside from this, the tour was well organized, transport was comfortable and overall everything else was great.
I highly recommend this tour. Cholula and Puebla are very beautiful cities, with stunning churches. Our driver Charlie was great. Our guide Maximo was really enthusiastic about his subject. He was helpful and nice. He did his best to share as much information with us as he could. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because we had a little bit of language barrier. But the effort our tour guide put was great and this trip was overall really good.
Our guide Bruno was fantastic. His knowledge and easy manner made the trip a delight. Mr Augustine navigated some bad traffic with ease.
Awesome tour to Cholula and Puebla! Our guide, Bruno, was amazing. Bruno has a wealth of knowledge and is ready to answer any questions you might have. Bruno studied history and you can tell that he is very passionate about his work. Also, our group had older people that took longer to walk but Bruno was very patient and accommodating. Our driver, Lalo, was also great. He was also patient, our way back to Mexico City we ran into heavy traffic so what normally would take 3 hours took us almost 5 hours. These guys are awesome, highly recommend this tour!
Wonderful day learning more history and seeing the major sights of Cholula and Puebla. Great guide and good food too!
Arturo and Bruno were exceptional and professional, keeping us safe and informed about the places we visited. Highly recommend them for visitors to Mexico. Bravo
George was very friendly and knowledgeable. We learned so much during the tour. I would avoid doing this tour on Sunday because some of the sights and most of the shops were closed. The car was very comfortable and the driver was also great!
Great trip! Lots of history and beautiful churches! Puebla is gorgeous! I’m not a fan of mole, but the mole here is superb.
Carlos and Christian took us to Puebla. This was a second trip with Carlo’s and Mexico Freelance and this time with family. We had a great tour. They take car of everything and make the short journey easy. The tour itself is full of knowledge and history and amazing local experience. We highly recommend this tour
The tour was fantastic. Our tour guide Carlos was a walking encyclopedia of Mexico and Puebla. We learned so much and loved the vive of Puebla that plan to return for a longer stay to explore this city in length.
We had a great time with our tour guide Veronica and driver Louis. Worth while trip super informative showing us around the sights and made it a worthwhile memorable day trip. The perfect amount of time to explore both Cholula and Pueblo.
We got the private tour to Cholula and Puebla. Bruno was our guide and Christiano was our driver. They were very polite and very accommodating. Bruno was knowledgable and helpful throughout the tour. I highly recommend them for your tour experience.
The guide Maksimo was very knowledgeable and showed us all interring sites catering to our desires and needs. Both guide and driver went above and beyond to make our tour comfortable and interesting. Definitely recommend this tour to everyone.
The tour guide Veronica was very knowledgeable & the driver Carlos was a very nice & careful driver. The views of the volcanoes were awesome. Puebla was a very charming colonial town with majestic cathedral at the center of town.In Cholula the base of the pyramid was ver impressive in its depth but I was a little bit disappointed that it was just a small part of the pyramid that was visible. However it is still an amazing archeological site. You get a view of Cholula and Puebla on top of the pyramid which also has a Catholic Church on it.
The guide and driver were very nice and easy to speak with. The guide was very knowledgeable on the area and all the places we visited. We tried to go to the tunnels but they were closed. The only reason I did not rate this trip 5 stars was because the guide spent quite a while telling us about all the things you are supposed to eat in Puebla and then none of them were an option. We were taken to a buffet where other guides were also dropping their groups. The food was mediocre at best. I would suggest having a place you want to eat in mind and let them know so you don’t end up there. I also wish we had spent more time just walking around the Centro. Maybe see some of the Puebla pottery. I could have asked and didn’t think of it at the time so that’s on me. Trip lasted 8a-4p, (CDMX and back.)
This tour was hands down our favorite day on our Mexico City trip. It's a long day (about 11 hours) but ABSOLUTELY worth it. Carlos (our guide) and Carlos (our driver) were awesome. Carlos was incredibly knowledgable and spoke terrific English. Since we had the whole day with him, it gave us time to ask all our burning questions about Mexico -- history, archeology, current events, Catholicism. Each stop was worthwhile. Cholula was very cool, but the next two churches were the surprise gems. In Puebla, Carlos worked to maximize the time we had there (~4 hours) and make sure we saw the highlights, including the cathedral, first public library in Latin America, and even an awesome rooftop viewpoint. We got lucky with incredible weather and visibility that day and could even see the tallest volcano in Mexico that's over 200km away.
Ramon was our guide. He provided a continuous and detailed running commentary throughout the trip. We got a ton of local context and history that we would not have gotten otherwise. The entire trip took about 11 hours including the trip to/from. Covered Pueblo, Cholula and Tonanzintla.
Sergio was a great guide. He was informative and entertaining. His enthusiasm and pride for what Mexico has to offer is palpable. Cholula and Puebla are well worth the visit.
The tour was great! The tour guide was very informative and took us to a surprise spot, very good, definetly recommendable
We booked this tour the night before trying to find a different well known area to explore and it was totally worth it! Our tour guide was very informational and gave us a great tour of Cholula and Puebla. If you truly want to see the most of these areas, this tour will definitely do that for you. Lots of great stops and walking around the community (if you are not a big fan of walking around, then this is not the tour for you). One of us even needed to stop for some tums for an upset stomach and our tour guide went out of his way to find a place.
This was a wonderful trip outside of CDMX. Our guide Arturo and driver Arturo were exceptional. They were punctual and catered to our needs. Arturo is knowledgeable and it shows. Cholula was amazing as was Puebla. Definitely recommend them!
Loved the whole experience. Guide was very knowledgeable and it was a very nice day trip. Puebla is very nice to visit. Highly recommended from CDMX
Communication before the trip wasn't great. I emailed for confirmation before but received no reply and on the day of the trip the hotel had to chase when nobody had arrived at the scheduled time. However once the trip got under way it was all good. I had mainly booked for the visit to Puebla, not knowing much about Cholula but this part of the trip was definitely worthwhile. The history of the pyramid and the ornate interiors of the churches were very interesting. And Puebla is a beautiful interesting city. Our guide was very knowledgeable and communicated well. We enjoyed the trip and would recommend.
We wish that we had had more communication (or any communication that we didn't initiate) from the local tour company before our pickup, but from the moment we were picked up, we had a wonderful time. Ramon, our guide, and Juan, our driver, were experienced professionals, and we were absolutely delighted by Ramon's breadth of knowledge*, friendliness, and enthusiasm for the places we traveled to. Because it was a private tour, we could also adapt it for our pace and interests, and we were delighted to visit some off-the-beaten-path sights as well. We would eagerly take a tour by Ramon again! *Like, we would go into the weeds on linguistics, art, and architecture, and he provided authoritative knowledge, as a trained and licensed guide.
Carlos was amazing!!! Phenomenal tour guide. Definitely would recommend this tour. Great 1 day getaway from CDMX.
The guide was very sweet and flexible. The small volcano was a wonderful surprise added to our day trip.
Our tour with Carlos and driver Arturo was amazing! We loved exploring smaller towns of Puebla and Cholula outside of the hustle of Mexico City. Carlos was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history and culture and answered all of our questions. They were both accommodating if we needed any rest breaks. What a great day!
Trip to Cholula and Puebla Our guide Ernie is a local of Puebla and showed us all the interesting places. It took 3 hrs to drive from Mexico city and we began the tour at 11 am. The views of the Popo volcano on the way were stunning! The main church of cholula was rich in architecture as well. We walked around the Zocalo and visited few more churches. We then drove for 30 mins and had lunch in downtown Puebla. We explored a colorful Local market where we shopped for Mexican candy, bags, T shirts and Telavera (Mexican clay made pottery) The day ended around 4 pm and we drove back to Mexico City by 7 pm. Ernie did a good job and made our trip enjoyable!
Giovani was our guide and Arturo was our driver. They picked us up promptly at 8 am right at our hotel. The car was clean and spacious. We drove first to Cholula for a few stops and then proceeded to Puebla. Giovani was so knowledgeable, he spoke perfect English and made the whole day special. There was never any rush to get to the next stop and we learned so much history throughout. We got back to our hotel just before 7 pm. I would highly recommend this tour and Giovani in particular.
Great trip . Enjoyable Friendly guys We even stopped to eat local food In Puebla . The guide’s knowledge of the history , details well explained! Beautiful scenery . We definitely had a blast !
Fun day trip from CDMX. Gio and Robert were excellent (guide and driver). It was easy to schedule online and I was able to adjust the number of people quickly without any hassle about a week before. Viator confirmed the booking a couple of days in advance. Gio and Robert were at our door promptly on time - waiting for us as we walked outside. We learned interesting history and saw beautiful sights. Definitely recommend if you want to mix things up on your trip to CDMX.
We were exceptionally lucky to have Veronica for our guide. Veronica is very knowledgeable and quite charming. Temple Mayor, Ntl Mus Anthropology & Teotihuacan are better for limited days.
Arturo was an awesome guide with tons of knowledge and just Fun to be around the group tours in Mexico City are cheap but if your not fluent in Spanish you will most likely miss a lot even if it’s marketed as an English tour. This private tour is definitely the way to go. I experienced a magical side of Mexico and saw a dizzying amount of jaw dropping sites. Oh yea the food was even great. I’ve taken a wide variety of tours across three decades and about 30 countries and this is definitely in my top 5 list. Take this your you won’t regret it.
Experience with Veronica as our tour guide was great. Will highly recommend for anyone looking for personal trips. Food arrangement was good as well.
We decided to use one of our days in CDMX to go to a different city. We booked this as a private tour since we feel it is worth it, we were so lucky to share this time with Christian (our driver) and Arturo (our guide). We left right on time and spent the whole day visiting different and interesting places in Cholula-Puebla while at the same time learnt a lot of Mexico’s history. Fully recommended.
Driver and english speaking guide arrived on time. Carlos, our guide was very knowledgeable and was very thorough. He was interested in everything as we were and felt that he was conducting the tour from bottom of the heart. Inspite of losing almost 45 mins because of traffic, he did not try to go fast and gave us time to explore. The tour company had good arrangements for lunch.
Excellent. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to know more about Mexico’s culture, food, and history. Our guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Transportation was spacious and comfortable.
Great Day Trip to Puebla and Cholula. Arturo- the Tour Guide and Christian-the driver are the best. They are professional and puntual and we got to discover this very historic towns. Highly recommend if you’re ever in Mexico City.
This was a fantastic tour, very informative and a day well spent. I loved that they went out of their way to make sure we got great photos of the smoking volcano on the way. As a travel advisor who is very selective to whom I send my clients, I would not hesitate to send them with Mexico freelance Tours. Luis and Carlos were excellent guides and also very knowledgeable . I did go during the covid pandemic and some things were closed, but this company was very happy to make up for it by offering us free airport transfers. They took every safety measure and I was very comfortable.
My husband and I went on a private tour to Cholula and Puebla in July 2020. Despite some historical sites being closed for COVID, we had a great time walking around and learning more about the history of Mexico. Our tour guide Carlos did an amazing job!!! He is extremely friendly, approachable, and professional. He gave us a lot of insights about the life in Mexico City -- not just historical facts, but recommendations on good areas to hang out, places to eat, etc. Our driver was also very professional. Overall, despite some things being closed for coronavirus, we had an excellent time and would definitely choose this company to do another tour or a day trip! Highly recommended!
Had a very enjoyable day out with Arturo and the driver whose name I've forgotten unfortunately. We were pleasantly surprised by what we experienced..being inside the tunnel of Piramide Tepanapa at Cholua,..the world's smallest volcano (yes)..the gorgeous first public library in the Americas...church interiors that are so unexpected given the relative drabness of the outside...and the general colour and vibrancy of Puebla. Through it all Arturo kept us informed and intrigued. Yes you can take cheap(er) tour to Puebla but if you can afford it, you'll not regret taking this tour, You'll leave with many memories.
