My husband and I joined the class together. While we dined at a wide range of spots in Mexico City—from casual tacos stands to Michelin-starred restaurants—the food you taught us was by far our absolute favorite. It was a truly valuable experience that opened our eyes to the rich depth of authentic Mexican cuisine. Thank you so much for sharing your precious recipes and for your warm hospitality! I highly recommend this experience to everyone.
Lucia is fabulous, warm, and knowledgable! We had so much fun. We had a delicious meal and great conversation! Thank you again, Lucia! 😋
One of the highlights of my trip to Mexico City was going to Lucia’s for a private cooking class with my mom. We chose to make almond mole with chicken as the entree. Lucia is knowledgeable and patient and a wonderful teacher. The best part of the experience is eating the wonderful meal on her patio- what a paradise in the middle of the city! Bring a big appetite- you won’t regret it!
A fun experience! I took this cooking class with my sisters, and it felt just like cooking with a friend. The food was authentic Mexican home cooking at its finest, and enjoying our lunch together in Lucia’s gorgeous backyard was perfection. Such a nice memory from our time in Mexico City!
Lucia's cooking class was an absolute highlight of our trip, fun, unique, and completely unforgettable. She welcomed us into her beautiful home, and from the moment we arrived it felt less like a class and more like being hosted by an old friend. Lucia is incredibly knowledgeable and clearly passionate about Mexican food and cooking traditions, and that passion made every step of the experience engaging and memorable. Her warmth as a host made the whole group feel completely at ease. We left with full stomachs, new skills, and great memories. Highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting the area!
Lucia was amazing and knowledgeable! It was very hands on and perfect for really learning about local ingredients and how to cook with them. She was so hospitable as well.
Cooking with Lucia was an absolutely phenomenal way to start our trip in Mexico City. A private cooking experience, my girlfriend and I met Lucia at the market and got to tour it – meeting different vendors, learning about product and spice selection, and getting to meet vendors at the market for a quick bite! Afterwards, we went back to Lucias beautiful home to cook our meal using the fresh ingredients selected at the market and got to work! Lucia was knowledgeable, patient, and paid great attention to our requests for the dishes we made (hosting-friendly ones!) Our menu was fantastic and as someone with culinary experience it was a great way to try some new dishes and learn new techniques! Leaving the experience with Lucia, I feel confident to make the dishes on my own. Adding to an already great experience, Lucia went out of her way to share the recipes and recommendations for the rest of our stay in Mexico City. The next time we're in the city we'd love to visit again! Thank you Lucia!!!
My family and I just had the most amazing cooking and learning experience with Lucia! My wife and I love to cook and try to do a cooking class when we visit new countries and cultures. So we have done many over the years and our experience was Lucia was one of the best! We were with our two daughters and sons-in-law so there were 6 of us. Lucia lives in a beautiful home with a spacious kitchen. After we arrived and put on our aprons she explained in detail what we were going to cook and the process. Her English was perfect. She then put us all to work giving us specific tasks to do and managing all of it. Lucia also had an assistant, Eva, who was helping us with various techniques and kept things clean and organized. We made many dishes: two salsas, red and green; two types of quesadillas, huitlacoche and squash blossom; sopes with beans and chorizo; a cactus salad; green mole chicken; and a dessert made with the cactus Xoconostle. We also made all of the tortillas we used, including kneading the masa, and pressing them differently for the quesadillas, sopes, and the ones we ate with our meal. Having been a teacher of gastronomic history before starting her cooking school, Lucia taught us a lot about the food as we were making it. After we prepared all the food, she served us what we had cooked, along with drinks (beer and tequila for those who wanted it), and we feasted on it all while enjoying her backyard view. Lucia provided recipes for what we had cooked by email and offered to answer any questions we had. The whole experience was great and I cannot recommend this cooking class highly enough, especially for a family or small group of friends. Thank you, Lucia!
We had a great cooking class with Lucia. The class was held at her home which had a large and roomy kitchen. Her backyard was beautiful. She gave us options of what to cook so we had input for the menu. The recipes were simple enough that we knew we could replicate at home. Her English was fantastic so we understood everything she was explaining to us. It was a lot of work and everything turned out great! Definitely recommend this cooking class with Lucia!
Lucia is a fantastic guide and host. Couldn't recommend this enough. We met at a traditional market and we were basically pointing at all the fruits, vegetables and spices asking what everything is, and she never let us down. Plus all her contacts in the market led to lots of free samples! Lucia contacted us a couple of days before the tour to send a draft menu and to check for any requests, which was a really nice touch. We then went back to her beautiful home and cooked together. Making fresh salsas, tortillas, quesadillas, mole and so much more. We had a great time. Thank you so much Lucia!
10/10. This was our favorite thing we did in the entire trip. We were a group of 5 (parents and adult kids.) Lucia was friendly, super competent, and fun to be with. The market tour was great (buy extra chiles to bring home!) and her house/kitchen were both beautiful and well-appointed. For apps, we made tortillas, sopes, and quesadillas (a fried dumpling) with chorizo, huitlacoche, cheese, beans, and squash blossoms. We also made two salsas. Main dish was chicken with a red mole; dessert was some amazing poached cactus fruit (sorry, I don't recall what it was.) Everyone had a marvelous time--it was relaxing, entertaining, and filled with good conversation. Highly recommended.
We could not be more thrilled with our experience with Lucia. She met us at the market and gave us a tour of some of the kiosks and gave insights for some of the ingredients we were going to use that day for our class. From there, she drove us to her lovely home where we spent the next 3 hours preparing our dishes. We appreciated that this was a hands-on experience. She guided and gently corrected as we prepared native dishes. (She wrote to us ahead of time to ensure that we liked her plan and made amendments based on our suggestions. ) After preparations, we sat on her lovely appointed patio and ate the fruits of our labors. If you're looking for a unique experience while visiting beautiful Mexico City, I highly recommend this. Lucia, I hope you see this: If you're ever in the Washington, DC, area, allow us to host you in our home. It's our turn to cook. Julio and Michael
We had a wonderful morning making sopas, tortillas, quesadillas, and other tasty bites. We learned new herbs and techniques. It was relaxing and informative such a beautiful place. We explored close by neighborhood for a complete day.
This was an excellent experience. Lucia was kind, informative, and fun. I learned a lot and enjoyed the delicious mole we made.
Our group of four had an amazing time with Lucia! Lucia was a clear and effective teacher for cooking delicious tacos, sopes, mole, and dessert and we returned home with new recipes and skills. We also enjoyed chatting with her about Mexican history while dining in her beautiful home. Her insights on Mexican culture, food, and history provided valuable perspective on our entire trip. She also gave us recommendations for places to visit which we enjoyed greatly. Thank you, Lucia!
Lucia is both an expert in Mexican gastronomy and a warm and welcoming host in her beautiful oasis of a home and garden. She and her assistant Senora Eva created a fun, interactive and delicious hands-on experience for our group of 9. Gracias Lucia!
There were 5 of us in the group for Lucia's cooking class. Lucia welcomed us warmly to her lovely home. We were all given tasks to contribute to the meal. Lucia was very organized and kept everything moving along with guidance and easy to follow instructions. Lucia also included background info on some of the ingredients we used so we all learned something new! The food we made was all delicious! We sat outside on her patio to eat the lunch we'd made and enjoyed her beautiful, lush green yard! We enjoyed the opportunity to experience something outside of the typical tourist sites and to get to know a local. Thanks you Lucia!
Excellent class! Lucia was very warm and welcoming, the ingredients were fun and the food was amazing!
Excellent class! Lucia was very warm and welcoming, the ingredients were fun and the food was amazing!
Lucia is such a great source of knowledge on Mexican cooking and made the whole experience so much fun! The mole sauce, various salsas, tortillas, and various fillings for other dishes that we learned to make in particular were exquisite! Highly recommend this for anyone with a love of food and an appreciate of the culinary arts within CDMX!
We had a most wonderful time cooking with Lucia. Before our experience, she provided a proposed menu with options to change it (we didn’t). The actual experience was wonderful - we prepared ingredients, cooked the dishes, and enjoyed the delicious food on Lucia’s beautiful patio. Lucia is a gem - warm, welcoming, and eager to share her passion and knowledge of Mexican cuisine. A must-do experience when in Mexico City!
Our entire family loved Lucia's class. She put together an amazing vegetarian menu. My sister thought it was the best meal we had in Mexico City- and we went to some Michelin spots. My dad, who was unsure about the class, loved it and wants to cook together more in the future. Lucia was very warm and welcoming. She organized the class well. Her home kitchen and garden were a lovely space to spend time. She brought out toys for my 13 month old niece, who spent time with her parents in the garden while other adults cooked. This experience was a highlight of our trip
What a pleasure this cooking class was! Lucia was such a great instructor and culinary educator. Not only did we learn how to prepare several of our favorite Mexican dishes in the authentic traditional way, we also learned a lot about the rich food history of the region. Her kitchen is a perfect size for couples and groups, and it was well-appointed with all the equipment needed. An extra bonus we had not anticipated was the delightfully lush backyard garden patio setting where we ate the lunch we had prepared. This is an A++ experience.
We had a fabulous experience with Lucia. There were 4 of us in a very comfortable fun environment. We were impressed with her knowledge of the foods we cooked and how they related to her culture. We would highly recommend Lucia in learning to cook authentic Mexican food as well as enjoying eating it in her lovely garden.
Lucia is the best! Super sweet and talented. We made quesadillas and stuffed peppers- delicious! Lucia is so hospitable and kind 😁😁
We had a lovely evening with Lucia. We started with traditional Mexican dishes. Sopes and empanadas. She had every member of my family working. Including our kids. By the way she is very good with kids. The evening was relaxing. The view was stunning. We went outside to her patio and enjoyed homemade margaritas while we awaited for the main dish. “The Mole”. A lifetime experience that we will remember for the rest of our lives. Definitely will book again. A++++++
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Lucia and her incredible cooking class. From the moment my group arrived, she welcomed us into her home with such warmth that we instantly felt comfortable. Her kitchen is beautifully organized and fully equipped, making the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. Lucia not only taught us the recipes step-by-step, but also shared stories and insights about the local culture, which made everything even more meaningful. She explained each dish in a fun, engaging way and made sure everyone felt involved. She is truly a special lady—I only wish I had done this class sooner! I also loved talking with her a week beforehand to plan the meal. She listened to my suggestions and integrated them perfectly. Her cooking assistant, Eva, was also wonderful and helped us throughout the experience. This class was one of the highlights of our trip to Mexico City. Highly, highly recommended!
Lucia is a warm and extremely knowledgeable teacher. We took a class with our whole family (four kids ranging in age from 6 to 15). She is wonderful with children and was able to keep everyone engaged and involved for our entire cooking experience. It was also a treat to be in her home. The dishes we cooked were delicious, traditional Mexican dishes which made us appreciate our meals at CDMX restaurants that much more. We highly highly recommend!
Lucia was an amazing host and chef! We made many delicious dishes and then got to sit on her beautiful patio to eat our creations. She made us feel very welcome and even had some extra special authentic snacks for us to taste. It was a perfect night and a highlight of our vacation. I very highly recommend.
We had such an amazing experience with Lucia. Our son age 9 also loved it. Lucia was so welcoming and knowledgeable. The food was all delicious and we felt like we could make the dishes again. Would definitely do again and highly recommend.
Lucia and her food were one of the highlights of our trip! Lucia's kitchen is welcoming, clean, well-appointed, and fascinating. Her home was gorgeous and it was such a pleasure to enjoy our meal in her backyard. My boyfriend and I love to cook, and not only did she send us the recipes, but she answered every question we asked and we have ideas about how to recreate these recipes where we're from and use alternate ingredients. Our only regret was having a snack before we got there. Go hungry and ask questions! Lucia was wonderful and we'd happily re-book this the next time we're in CDMX.
Cooking with Lucia was a great experience, we had a lot of fun but also learned a lot about Mexican food and culture in general. Being able to enjoy the food we cooked sitting at a table in the garden was the perfect final touch! Lucia was very knowledgeable and kind to accommodate the menu to out vegetarian preference. If you are looking for an authentic experience and not the standard cooking class in a studio in the city centre I would definitely recommend!
Cooking class with Lucia was an incredible experience that was the highlight of our trip to Mexico City. Not only did we learn to make delicious traditional food (salsas, pork adobo, tortillas, sopes, and more) while laughing and enjoying each others company — but we also felt welcomed into Lucia’s home. We entered strangers and left friends. The length of the class (~3 hrs) was perfect and left time to do other activities, such as visiting nearby San Angel Inn or the Frida Kahlo museum a short ride away. I would strongly recommend this activity to anyone traveling to Mexico City
Lucia and her assistant Eva are wonderful teachers! They made us feel comfortable as we helped prepare the delicious pozole meal. The simple ingredients made for great bursts of flavor! We didn’t just stand around: We cleaned corn; made tortillas; deseeded chili peppers; chopped tomatoes and tomatillos, stirred sauce; made nopales salad; and, helped make a Guayaba (or guava) dessert. We drank wine and quickly ate the delicious tacos Lucia and Eva made using homemade tortillas, Chapulines (grasshoppers), avocado, and green salsa. This was our second cooking experience with Lucia and Eva. We enjoyed ourselves as much as we did during our 2018 experiences. We’ll return again soon.
This was a highlight of our trip. Lucia graciously invited us into her home and garden and taught us to make several authentic Mexican dishes. We were given 3 choices for a main dish and we chose stuffed poblanos and Mexican rice. We also made sopes with chorizo, fresh corn tortillas, 3 types of stuffed fried quesadillas, a red and a green salsa, and a poached guava dessert. We enjoyed our meal in Lucia’s beautiful garden. Lucia is sophisticated and warm and she was so helpful in helping us plan other unique experiences during our stay. I hope to cook with her again one day on a return trip to Mexico City. Overall, the experience exceeded my expectations.

Unforgettable experience in Luisa's kitchen that I would recommend to any group who loves traditional Mexican cooking. We gained so much from the moment we shopped with Luisa at Sam Angel's market, to collaborating at her kitchen island to create delicious recipes, to sitting down in her pretty garden to enjoy our many tasty creations. Thank you Chef Luisa for teaching us fundamental Mexican cooking skills we will cherish always.
This was a unique and fun experience on our trip to Mexico City. We made sopes, quesadillas, stuffed chilies, and rice. All of the food was delicious and it was interesting to learn each step in the cooking process. Lucia was welcoming and easy to talk to, we really enjoyed our time with her.
We truly had a wonderful experience learning how to cook Mexican food with Lucia. Three novice couples chose this adventure and communicated our food choice limitations easily with Lucia by Whatsapp. We had a blast learning to cook familiar foods with some unfamiliar interesting ingredients. Lucia has a wonderful calm demeanor about her which was comforting when one of us screwed up. Fluent in English and familiar with multicultural foods gives Lucia the edge when she communicates. I would heartily recommend using Traveling Spoon to book Lucia for a enjoyable cooking experience for a group of friends
Our cooking experience with Lucia was exceptional. We prepared the meal in her lovely home. She and her assistant were easy going, not at all intimidating, and were masterful, kind and supportive at managing 4 of us at various tasks during meal prep. We selected the meal menu from several different options and were very pleased with the dishes. We learned how to work with masa to make tortillas, sopas and quesadillas (fried), made several fresh salsas and made pumpkin seed mole with chicken for the main entree. We plan to return with friends/family for a future class. We highly recommend Lucia’s classes.
We had a wonderful time. A must for food lovers and anyone looking for a hands on authentic experience. Lucia is great. She was welcoming and had lots of knowledge about the cuisine and history of the food (even pulling out other cookbooks/history books to answer our questions about the food). We cooked mole, salsa verde, sopes, quesadillas - and had a fantastic sit down meal to enjoy the fruits of the labor! We will definitely be back to learn more recipes next time we are in Mexico City.
We enjoyed this so much! Lucia provided a thoughtful and personalized experience for us and was a delightful host all around. She incorporated her many years of gastronomic teaching experience and shared historical insights as she invited us to chop, smash, blend, sauté, assemble (etc.) fresh ingredients to create a delicious and authentic meal in her beautiful home! It was a wonderful experience, and I highly recommend it to travelers who want to lmdive deeper into the culture and history of Mexican cuisine. *Added bonus is the nearby San Angel art market which occurs on Saturdays. Truly a delight for the senses!
A very special culinary experience followed by a remarkable lunch with Lucia and Martina (the dog). An easy 20-25 minute ride from Polanco and we arrived at Lucia’ charming and personal home with a picturesque garden with a view of the valley behind it. This was followed by three hours of a delightful experIence of true Mexican cuisine. The final meal and conversation did not disappoint. We now feel comfortable trying this at home. Lucia is an incredible cook and host sure to charm you.
We had an amazing time and made of the great mexican food that we love. Lucia was a great host and a great teacher. Would highly recommend it.
We had such a wonderful time visiting with Lucia and learning from her! She is warm and welcoming and her recipes were delicious- I definitely will be making them again and again at home! Lucia made it feel like we were neighbors just stopping by for a visit❤️
Wonderful experience with a lovely home cook! We enjoyed a generous meal and learned so much preparing it. A highlight of our time in Mexico City. We got to tour a different part of the city, learn from our guide about her life and family and neighborhood, tour the food markets and learn about the food, and enjoy the cooking experience. We learned how to make mole, quesadillas and arepas, work with zucchini blossoms, and make Mexican flan. We had a delicious meal together in her garden with a view. Highly recommend for couples or families with kids who are old enough to enjoy working in the kitchen.
We had a wonderful time, and delicious meal with Lucia! We learned so much about the food we made, it's history, and it's ingredients. Lucia is fun, warm, extremely knowledgeable, an amazing cook, and her kitchen is comfortable. We made three dishes, three sauces, and a desert, and we had a beautiful meal in her peaceful garden. I truly loved this experience, and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Mexico City! Gracias Lucia, espero que nos volvamos a ver pronto 💖
We had such a great time! Lucia was so knowledgeable and accommodating. I would highly recommend taking this class. This was the highlight of my trip to Mexico City!
Cooking class with Lucía is a MUST while visiting Mexico City! Lucía is an amazing chef. My husband and I met her at the best Mercado in Mexico City. We wandered through the amazing grocery store sampling wonderful treats that you will never find in American stores or restaurants. We then drove to her beautiful casa in the hills. We learned to make fresh corn tortillas, two different salsas, stuffed poblano peppers, stuffed tortillas with ingredients including squash blossoms. We made crispy tortilla chips to go with the mouth watering salsas. Fried white rice that turns out amazingly fluffy, sweet mango dessert, and several other dishes. All of this washed down with a glass of hibiscus juice or a cerveza! The last comment I would like to make is that we sampled Lucía’s jalapeño jelly on a corn tortilla topped with goat cheese!! Never have we eaten any jalapeño jelly that good. You should purchase her jelly that she sells in a beautiful jar to take home with you. Lucía made us feel like part of her family. Gracias Lucía!
