Booked a private tour and Esly is one of the best tour guides I've ever had. Friendly, knowledgeable; loves her city, it's history and the people. I learned and saw so much, including about a museum I would have missed on my own. The opportunity to spend time in Xochimilco and Cayouacan, coupled with the in-depth background was unforgettable. My mind was on fire in the best way. As part of my first trip to Mexico, I'm very glad I did this tour.

Carlos was wonderful, accommodating and extremely informative. Best of all, we found him to be easy going and willing to customise our experience according to all our preferences. Mucho Gracias Carlos
What an absolutely incredible experience! Our private tour of Frida Kahlo, Coyoacán, and Xochimilco was truly one of the highlights of our time in Mexico City, and that was entirely thanks to our extraordinary guide, Esly! From beginning to end, Esly made the entire day feel so special. She was warm, engaging, knowledgeable, incredibly thoughtful, and genuinely so much fun to spend time with. Her wonderful personality and infectious enthusiasm made every moment enjoyable. It honestly felt less like being on a guided tour and more like exploring Mexico City with a wonderful friend who knew all the best places and hidden gems. The entire experience was beautifully organized and thoughtfully curated, with the perfect balance of culture, history, sightseeing, and pure enjoyment. Exploring Coyoacán and learning about Frida Kahlo was fascinating, but the boat ride through Xochimilco was an absolute highlight! The scenery, the atmosphere, the beautiful weather, and the excellent company made it such a memorable experience. It was one of those perfect days you wish could last just a little longer. What truly set this tour apart, however, was Esly herself. She went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, entertained, and having the best possible time. Her attention to detail, genuine kindness, and ability to make every part of the experience feel personal and effortless were remarkable. You can tell she genuinely loves what she does, and that passion shines through in everything. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day, a better experience, or more wonderful company. Esly took what was already a fantastic itinerary and turned it into something truly unforgettable. If you’re considering this tour, book it — and absolutely request Esly! She is an exceptional guide and an absolute joy to be around. We left with wonderful memories, a deeper appreciation for Mexico City, and enormous gratitude for the incredible day she created for us. Thank you, Esly, for making our day so magical! You are truly the best! 🇲🇽❤️
David made sure that we had the perfect customized tour. With our baby, we needed specific schedule accommodations and David made sure that we still had an excellent experience and saw everything we wanted to see! I would highly recommend booking this tour.
Carlos was great. Super knowledgeable and go with the flow…we were there during a very busy time (F1/día de los muertos) and he maneuvered the traffic very well.
We had a great experience today! very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful throughout the entire experience . He spoke excellent English, explained everything clearly, and made the experience even more enjoyable. He was also very attentive and happy to answer all our questions. Highly recommend
Fantastic experience at Xochimilco, Coyoacan (market) and Frida Khalo house/museum. One of the best tours we have ever had.
Was great experience with amazing tour guide, esly was telling me all the history story’s before we reach the destinations, so I can get full picture what I’m gonna experience next. It was wonderful tour
We had a fabulous day with Jaime! He was extremely knowledgeable and personable. The depth of his knowledge of history of the areas we visited was exceptional. Jaime took us to less touristy areas to give us a more local flavor. We took the boat ride in the morning so it was quieter which helped us take in the sites. We didn’t book the trip with enough lead time to get tickets to the Frida Kahlo museum, so we visited the Diego Rivera museum instead. Walking around the back alleys of Santa Catarina and the market in Coyoacon were particular highlights. We had an authentic Mexican lunch and enjoyed getting to know Jaime more. Then we toured the market sampling mamey, chocolate and tequila! All in all we had the best time and attribute most of it to Jaime’s wonderful guidance. Would definitely book another trip with Jaime through Stepping Mexico.
This was one of my favorite days spent in Mexico. Carlos was so kind and he is very knowledgeable of the area and the history of Coyocan. The cultural center in Coyocan was also a favorite. It’s such a beautiful place. I enjoyed seeing how it brings the community together and helps senior citizens stay active by providing them a place to learn and experience different forms of art, music and literature. If you wish to visit the Frida Kahlo’s Casa Azul museum, this is the best way to get tickets.
We had a fabulous day with Jaime touring Xochimilco, Coyoacon, and the Diego Rivera museum. Jaime was the star of the day. He had so much knowledge of each area we visited. We especially enjoyed seeing off the beaten path neighborhoods and experiencing “local” life. I think the highlight for our family was walking the Mercado at Coyoacon. We ate mamey, huitlacoche quesadillas and mole followed by a chocolate tasting and a shot of Mezcal with a scorpion chaser. Jaime was thoughtful in everything he planned for the day. We all left saying that was an “amazing” day. We would definitely book another tour with Jaime.
Jaime was an incredible guide who really made the whole experience for us. He was right on time to pick us up from our hotel, his English was excellent, and he had lots of stories and insights about the city to share with us. We took the tour on a week day which was perfect since xochimilco can get quite crowded on the weekends. The river boat ride was probably my favorite part of the experience, it was just so peaceful. We got to chat while enjoying the scenery and occasional beer and taco, the tacos were included and the beers were 50 pesos each. We stopped off on a few of the islands to explore the plentiful gardens and a local polkte brewery where we got to try the ancient fermented drink in its original flavor as well as others such as coconut and strawberry. After that we headed to Coyoacán which was also a quite peaceful and beautiful part of the city. Jaime showed us lots of scenic areas to walk and check out the local architecture while also carving out some time in the schedule so we could check out the local market, and a bonus coffee stop as we were in need of some caffeine come afternoon. The market was full of life and vendors with lots of local produce and snacks. We had a couple of tostadas with ceviche and molé. After that we went to the Frida kahlo house/museum, Jaime made sure we got in easy but wasn’t able to join us inside. For us, we’re not big Frida fans but the house was really quite nice, especially the garden. Overall great experience, and Jaime made the whole days experience quite memorable for us. Highly recommend.
This was an amazing day with Jaime as our tour guide. There’s so many great things I can say about him. I strongly recommend this tour.
We had an amazing day with our amazing tour guide, Jaime. We felt so lucky to have such a great experience. I’m a savvy traveler and when I say a tour is great, it really is. Worth every cent.
We have only the best things to say about Jaime - smart, interesting, he spoke clearly, and we had a great time spending half a day with him.
I could be more enthusiastic about our experience! Jaime and our driver arrived right on time and from beginning to end, our tour was truly special. The van was large and very comfortable. Jaime was SO nice and funny and incredibly knowledgeable about everything we did and saw. He knew the history and made it so interesting and fascinating! Our tour to Xochimilco was like a dream. Probably the most charming thing to do in Mexico City. Some might find it a bit touristy so I recommending what we did - which was go FIRST THING in the morning. The waterways and boats and all the people we met along the way were utterly charming, polite and beautiful. We loved the experience. Then we went to San Angel but decided to head to the other market in Coyoacán for the real Mexican market experience. Jaime showed us all the vendors and led us to his favorite Tostada kiosk. The food was Tremendous! We recommend the Chicken Tinga Tostada- def the fav!! Then Jaime took us the the Frida Kahlo/Blue House museum where he had rebooked our tickets. We were free to explore on our own there. What a glorious place and it is obvious why she and Diego Rivera were inspired to paint. Then we were driven back to our VRBO. Absolutely FANTASTIC day for us, our 3 kids and one significant other- all over 21. Best tour ever and I could not recommend Jaime more- he's just the BEST!!!!
We were a family of seven adults who did a private tour. Esly was a great guide—knowledgeable, friendly, and full of good suggestions and colorful insights. Excellent English. She gave us unvarnished Frida Kahlo history that was extremely interesting. She and our excellent and friendly driver Gabriel were flexible and accommodating tailoring the tour to our preferences. Highly recommended.
We had a great time on this tour. We started in Xochimilco, and Sarai made sure we got the full experience — drinks and food on the boat, and she even called over a mariachi band to sing for us. It was a lot of fun. We also visited Coyoacán and the Frida Kahlo Museum, and Sarai made sure everything went smoothly even with heavier traffic than expected. She was friendly, helpful and made the whole day feel very easy and personal. We really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend the tour.
Great private experience on Xochimilco. Armando was our guide and drove expertly through the city through some difficult roads, managing our trip expertly. We loved floating on the canals and embracing the indigenous experience and culture they are built upon. We had lunch at an excellent Yucatán restaurant in coyoacan, then toured the Frida Kahlo museum where Armando was holding our place in line. The museum was extraordinary and gave us a whole new perspective after learning all about Frida’s resilient spirit. It was a beautiful way to spend the day and Armando was a delight to have as a guide.
Really fun tour with a fantastic guide. Highly recommend. All aspects of the tour were fantastic from sights to narrative by our great guide!
Elsy was an excellent driver while giving a lot of information about Freda Kahlo. The boat tour of Xochimilco was like bumper cars on water. I would not miss the experience, the tacos and the little botanical tour during the boat ride. For a small extra fee we saw snakes, held lizards and saw the endangered Axolotl. Elsy grew up in Polanco so hearing about changes was very interesting.
Our guide Carlos was informative, punctual and gave us some great information about the history of Coyoacan. We were disappointed that Frida Museum was booked out , however Carlos took us to Anahaucalli Museum in place of Frida.
We were so pleased with this tour and with Jaime as our guide. Communication ahead of the tour through WhatsApp was excellent, and he picked us up directly at our hotel. We began with a peaceful weekday-morning visit to Xochimilco with just the two of us, Jaime, and our boat captain, Abraham. Jaime gave us helpful context about the history of Xochimilco and how Mexican families enjoy it today for celebrations. We also made a few stops along the way, including to see plants and for a brief pulque tasting. Going on a weekday morning was perfect for us because we wanted to experience Xochimilco without the party atmosphere. From there we drove to Coyoacán, where Jaime share the area's history while he walked with us through several blocks, showing us beautiful courtyards, back alleys, the market, and other details we easily could have missed. The tour included our tickets to the Frida Kahlo Blue House museum. Jaime had also given us useful suggestions about other Mexican artists and murals to look for during the rest of our stay in Mexico City. When we finished at the museum, Jaime was waiting right outside the exit with the car to take us back to our hotel. He was delightful throughout the day and brought exactly the right level of energy and enthusiasm to the experience. We are very happy we chose this private tour and highly recommend it.
My tour with Jaime was phenomenal! He is very engaging, knowledgeable, and accommodating. I learned so much and had a blast at the same time. I would highly recommend the experience!
Jaime was an excellent guide - personable, flexible, knowledgeable and friendly! We enjoyed every minute!
Our tour guide, Sara was amazing. She took us to the Frida Kahlo museum and had so many extras to share about her life. She also took us to another museum of the collections of Diego Rivera. We enjoyed homemade snacks on the boats at Xochimilco and some dancing. She was able to incorporate our special requests too.
Excellent experience. Our guide, Jaime was ontime, knowledgeable and friendly. He also is respected by the locals in the areas that we visited and this put us at ease. We booked last minute and the Frida Kahlo house wasnt available as an option so he gave us another very good museum to visit. I would do this toyr again and any other tour that Jaime does as he is such a good guide. I recommend!
This was a wonderful tour. The boats on the canals at Xochimilco are so colorful and it's just such a cool experience to see the man made Islands. Mariachi bands will come along side and board your boat if you ask. While we did that and were glad that we did, beware...they charge 300 pesos per song and will talk you into more than one! Fun but pricey. Our own fault for falling for it. The best part about Coyoacan is the market where I would have liked to spend more time. Walking the neighborhood was ok but not something I would call a must do. Interesting non the less. The Frida Kahlo is really nice. I researched her story and watched the documentary before going which really made the museum much more interesting!!!!!! So I give a thumbs up to this tour. I must mention, that due to health concerns, we did this as a private tour with just my husband and I and our private tour guide/driver. Our guide Jaime was wonderful and we used him throughout our trip for all of our tours. While not the cheapest, it was definitely worth it to us to have control over our experience should we need to alter our itinerary for any reason. I would highly recommend this Rene with Stepping Mexico and tour guide Jaimie.
Jaime was our driver and guide for our experience in Coyoacán. He was amazing. It was so easy to coordinate with him once I made the booking. He picked us up at our hotel in a lovely car and took us all around. His English is excellent as is his local knowledge. This was not our first time to Mexico City but it was a first to this particular area of the city and we did not know what to expect. The boat trip was a lot of fun and there were excellent local snacks that remained a favorite our group. We had a lovely walk through the neighborhood of Coyoacán, to include a great coffee break, and then time at the Khalo museum. Strongly recommend both the experience and the guide.
Our tour guide, Armando, picked us up for a tour to Xochimilco, Coyoacan, and the Frida Kahlo Blue House. It was easy to communicate with him to get details of pick up location and time. He was punctual, knowledgeable, and pleasant! Hands down a wonderful tour! Thank you!
Overall, this was a very enjoyable and informative tour. We really appreciated the opportunity to experience local culture firsthand, visit the markets, and gain a deeper understanding of the area beyond the typical tourist experience. Our guide was knowledgeable and provided valuable insight into the history, culture, and communities we visited. There were a few areas that could be improved. We paid extra to have our group name displayed on the boat, but unfortunately it was misspelled, which was disappointing. Toward the end of the tour, the guide shared some personal political opinions that were not aligned with everyone in our group and made a few people uncomfortable. While everyone is entitled to their views, it felt a bit out of place during the tour. Communication regarding additional expenses could also be clearer. We were under the impression that the food served on the boat was included, only to learn afterward that it was an additional charge. Setting expectations upfront would help avoid confusion. The itinerary was packed, which allowed us to see a lot in a short amount of time, but it also left very little opportunity to relax, browse, or shop. At times, it felt like we were being rushed from one location to the next. That said, our guide was accommodating and even made time for us to stop for churros from a place we had been hoping to visit, which was a highlight of the day. Despite a few frustrations, we left with a much better appreciation of the local culture and would still recommend the tour to visitors looking for an authentic experience.
What a wonderful introduction to some unique areas that CDMX has to offer! My wife and I had a private tour with Armando and had a great time. He was very friendly and informative and answered all of our dozens of questions without skipping a beat. We loved the tour of the Xochimilco canals and also really enjoyed Coyoacan. We really liked the opportunity for free time in the area to explore on our own and shop at the weekend artisan market. Casa Azul was wonderful and we are so glad that was included as part of the tour. Would absolutely recommend to first time visitors- lovely for couples/friend groups but would also be fun for families. We will definitely be re-visiting both Xochimilco and Coyoacan on our next visit!
Carlos was a great and fun guide. We learned a great deal about Mexico City’s history, culture and values of its people.
Sarai is totally delightful and very knowledgeable. We especially loved our boat ride at Xochimilco -- so calm and relaxing after the hour-long drive through crazy Mexico City traffic! Also was a really good thing to start early in the morning while it was still a little cool. Coyohuacan is charming, and I could definitely spend more time there. The Blue House gives a good idea of what Frida's (and Diego's) life was like, although it was quite crowded and difficult to see all the exhibits due to other tourists blocking the way.
Esly is a wonderful guide! Knowledgeable, passionate about the subject matter and the history of Mexico City and the various cultures who have built it and lived here over the . She was patient answering our questions and she took us to a few spots we requested to go. We thought the Chuleta ride down the river mightbe a little too touristy, but it was lovely. Tasting the pulque was really good, and the probiotics were good for our digestion! : ). We asked to get some cacao powder and she took us to the marketplace where we purchased high-quality cacao in addition to an amazing chocolate! Frida Kahlos house is a must see and skipping the line is always good! Ashley suggested an excellent restaurant where we dined at the end of our day.
This is our second time doing this tour. This time I booked directly with the operator to customize the tour. We had an incredible experience exploring Mexico City with Jaime and Francisco. They were punctual, Jaime was a great tour guide, and we had a fantastic day. I’ll definitely book with them again in the future.
Our guide Elsi was like spending the day driving with an extremely knowledgable old friend. She was so informed and everything was conversational and relaxed and she knew everyone and had breat recommendation for places to go and things to see. Xochimilco was phenomenal, particularly with the stories of the floating city--touristy (mostly from Mexico) but very fun--go early if you can. We had no experience in Coyacan and San Angel areas and we could have spent all day at either place. Highly recommend this wonderful host to the beautiful and historic City. Thank you Elsi for everything!!
If you are looking to see the soul of Mexico City, book this tour. Jaime and Francisco were absolutely incredible guides! We spent a perfect day exploring the beautiful, historic streets of Coyoacán and then headed to the canals of Xochimilco. What made the trip special was their energy and deep knowledge of the area. They didn't just show us the sights; they told us the stories behind them. They went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, having fun, and getting the most out of every stop. I cannot recommend them enough—thanks for a highlight of our trip!
It was a great experience. Tour guide was very knowledgeable, punctual and very friendly. We had an awesome time.
This tour was the perfect introduction to the city. The boat trip so much fun! The walk around Coyacan was lovely all the foliage and flowers are beautiful! Frida’s Blue house was amazing! Jaime was the perfect tour guide! He was timely, friendly and knowledgeable! It was like taking a tour with a friend!
The tour was exceptional! What a great way to be introduced to the city! The boat ride was so much fun! Walking Coyacan was lovely. All the greenery and flowers were beautiful! Ending with Frida’s blue house was amazing. I learned so much. Jaime our tour guide was fantastic! He was timely, friendly and so knowledgeable. I recommend him to anyone that wants to feel like they are taking a tour with a friend!
Our tour guide Esly was fabulous - she was super friendly and shared a lot of interesting knowledge about the history of Mexico, the traditions/beliefs in Mexico, stories about Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, and information on the current political climate in Mexico. We truly enjoyed Esly as our tour guide. A couple of things to note for future travelers: 1. We booked this tour less than a week in advance and were notified that tickets to the Frida Kahlo museum were not available. Instead of canceling the tour, we accepted the recommendation to visit Diego Rivera's museum as the alternative. The museum was OK, and luckily our tour guide was knowledgeable and able to explain many of the features at the museum. 2. While we came prepared to tip our tour guide, we were not aware that other third party vendors would also expect tips. Primarily we needed to tip the boat operator in Xochimilco and luckily we had some extra cash to do so. It would have been nice if tips to third parties were handled by the tour operator and included in the price of the tickets, or at the very least mentioned in the tour details. Overall, thanks to Esly for making our trip a memorable one!
Xochimilco with Jamie was a fantastic experience. He’s knowledgeable explanations, familiarity with the vendors, and friendly manner made this a memorable and unique experience. We also thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Anahuacalli museum and our tour of the Santa Catalina area in Coyoacán. Thank you Jaime for a wonderful day experiencing southern CDMX!
Armando is a safe driver, wonderful historian and respectful guide - letting us enjoy the sights, ask questions and regale us with interesting tidbits.
Had a great first day in Mexico City with Jaime! Explored Coyocuan in a way we wouldn’t have on our own. Frida Kahlo museum was easy and interesting, but recommend doing a bit of history on her life first. The highlight was definitely Xochimilco. The excitement and fun and adventure were great. And Jaime did a great job explaining everything and giving us background on traditions. Also had some great stops along the way. Amazing day and highly recommend.
Our guide Jaime was great! We had a wonderful day! We enjoyed each stop, learned a lot, and were able to relax between destinations!
Van very comfortable. Driver great. Tour guide was excellent. Knowledgeable about everything! Explaining as we drove to our first stop the history thru to modern day. Schedule a Full day for the tour. Frida Khalo and Diego Rivera's home and studio tour was amazing. Don't miss this!
Would highly recommend this tour if it’s your first time coming to CDMX! Jaime was my tour guide and he was very knowledgeable about the places we went to. I went solo and made sure everything was alright and to give me the local experience which I appreciated. It was an amazing time if you enjoy history, art, and supporting local. 10/10!!!
Love our experience and our tour guide was fantastic!!! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a personal guide and tour!!
We had an outstanding time on this tour. Jaime was an incredible guide: friendly, informative, and fun. The canals were lovely and he gave great recommendations on when/where to stop for the full experience, including the mariachi band. He took us through the neighborhoods of Coyoacán to really see the history and gave a great tour of the market. He reached out to us via WhatsApp and even communicated other recommendations after our tour. Both the locations visited and the guide were exceptional.
