We had a very interesting and educational time at the Anthropology Museum. Having Miguel as our guide made so much of a difference than if we did it alone, as our Spanish is not the best. He showed us the most important highlights of the museum.
Miguel was fantastic. The tour was amazing along, we loved the mythological and symbol education. Excellent tour- highly recommended
There is nothing "early entry" to this. We still had to wait in line until around 9:30 AM to get in. When we went there was a few schools that had to go in before we did. The description made it seem like we would be going in before the crowds got in. It was nothing like that. We had to wait for 600 kids to get in first, then after waiting for 45 minutes outside in the sun in a long line, then we were allowed inside. Once inside our "archeologist" had to buy the tickets inside, that was another long line. The other deceiving part is that the description called him an archeologist, it is a certified tour guide that studied archeology. The other bad part about it was that our group could not enter together due to the normal group dynamics of each person having different needs like using bathroom etc. Our fast "archeologist" had a big argument with security about letting us in together, we did not mind waiting in line with other people and then we could meet inside, but I feel like the argument our "archeologist" had with security almost got us kicked out of the museum. The tour also went a lot longer than in the description since our "archeologist" liked to talk. This would have been ok in other circumstances but I had skipped breakfast to be there for supposedly early entry that never happened, then he kept on talking until 1 pm. I had to say goodbye since I had another tour by 2 pm. There wasn't even a chance for me to use restaurant at the site. I went to buy a souvenir for my kid and could not get back in to buy something quick at the restaurant since the "archeologist" kept our tickets. I had to leave the place frustrated and hungry. If I had to do it again I would just get in line to get in as soon as the museum opens, buy my tickets and do the museum at my own pace.
Nope! This experience was neither early entrance (which would suggest entrance before the rest of the public) or with an archeologist (which would suggest someone who had a degree or work experience in archeology) don’t do it if what you’re looking for is what is advertised. That is not to say our guide was not a lovely person, she was a great tour guide. We felt a bit misled about the experience.
We had a fantastic experience with Emmanuel. His passion and knowledge for the history of Mexico was pouring off him as he led us around the museum. Emmanuel provided context and more information on all pieces in the museum, and we’re so glad he was our guide. Thanks Emmanuel!
Ivan, was a great guide. Took his time and explained as much as he could. He is very knowledgeable and you will learn a lot!
The tour description is a lie. We did not get into the museum early and our guide was not an archaeologist, much less a VIP one. Also, the meeting point given for the tour was incorrect. So that’s three strikes. However, our guide, Diana, was enthusiastic and informative, and her English was easy to understand. Also, it’s a smart idea to get in line at 8:40 (or earlier) for the 9am opening. By 11, it was noticeably crowded in the exhibit areas. Also good to know: This is a very large collection, so any tour is, of necessity, going to be a fast overview. Plan to return another time if you want to linger over the fascinating items on display.
So much history it would take hours/days to really see it all. Josephina was a wonderful guide, extremely pleasant and very knowledgeable. Or tour was 3 hours which was just about right for me.
The tour was great, the museum would not have come alive as it did without Josefina’s skillful guidance.
First of all, I want to be clear that the museum deserves five stars. It is an amazing architectural masterpiece, as well as having spectacular exhibits. Arriving at 9 AM when the doors open is highly recommended, as the galleries were pleasantly uncrowded. Our tour guide, however, deserves one star. He was arrogant, often rude and very biased about how wonderful the Zapotec civilization was compared to all others. He was dismissive of other people, cultures and especially tourists. He spoke down to the other people in the group, and wasn’t interested in any real conversation. The guide turned exploring this wonderful museum into a painful and unpleasant experience and after 2 hours, we made our excuses and wandered off to explore the museum on our own.
This was a nice and informative tour but I am not sure whether the guide was indeed a "VIP Archaeologist" as the description noted. Furthermore, there was no "early access" involved. We had some difficulty finding him, and the tour started very late (about 40 minutes after the listed meeting time of 8:40).
Ivan was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the information he presented. He was also able to engage in very specific questions about connections to other cultures in the region. I really enjoyed his honesty and enthusiasm. Unfortunately the information shared about where to meet and what time was not correct. We all went to Starbucks and he was across the street. Also we didn't find him for 20 minutes beforehand. I think this is due to information that is posted in correctly by the company.
Fantastic amount of knowledge. There's so much to absorb and Ivan was great at curating the best of it all for our group. We focused on Teotihuacan and Aztec for three hours and the museum had so much more!
The guide was 15 minutes late. Which made us a bit anxious. Once he arrived, and the tour started, it was excellent. Good fund of knowledge about the artifacts and culture.
Very informative, nothing was missed, everything was explained in great detail. All questions were answered. Ivan was a great guide.
Ivan was great and knowledgeable I enjoyed having a guide it gave me a lot of background to the history I would recommend!
Ivan was great. He is the perfect guide with a lot of wisdom and patience. There were some setbacks en route to the museum and Ivan was very attentive with instructions and updates to have a positive experience. Thank you so much!
Beautiful museum, very good Rodolfo in 'accompanying us and explain everything in a very detailed and precise
The guide Raul was very attentive and pleasant. He explained everything accurately and made the visit very entertaining. Definitely the best the Mayan room.
Raul was a great guide. A tour with the essentials of such a huge museum. His passion for the Maya was for the best. I would repeat without hesitation.
The guide was not at the meeting point, it took a miracle to find him in front of the museum itself. The package does not include early entry at all, we queue like everyone else. In addition, the guide did not adapt to his audience. Everything was very long it offered only two rooms out of four. Apart from that the museum is very beautiful and very well designed. No waiting, go straight ahead...
Incredible museum, certainly not the best in the world. Stunning, display all the culture, history of Mexico
Wonderful! The guide, Mr. Raul, introduced me primoriously and with a lot of knowledge of the local culture. The museum is a spectacle in preservation and valuation of Mexican cultural heritage.
