Itinerary
Discover Mexico City’s taco culture through neighborhood counters, home-style cooking, and bustling markets. From slow-cooked pork to richly seasoned vegetable fillings, explore the variety behind this beloved food and the traditions that shape it. Your local guide helps you navigate menus, choose salsas, and discover flavors that suit your appetite and taste for heat. Before you meet, you’ll receive a short Personalization Form to help us match you with the right local guide and shape the experience around your preferences and interests. You’ll enjoy 8 tastings and 2 beers or soft drinks. The suggested stops offer a glimpse of what you could explore. Your route and tastings may vary according to your preferences, chosen start time, venue opening hours, and availability.
Tender pork, delicately crisp edges, and a squeeze of lime capture the appeal of carnitas at Juárez’s neighborhood taco counters. This slow-cooked specialty offers a range of textures, depending on the cuts used. With your local guide’s help, discover your preferred combination and learn how chopped onion, cilantro, and salsa complement the richness of the meat.
Marinated pork turns on a vertical spit, its outer edges browning before thin slices are tucked into small tortillas. Around Zona Rosa’s lively streets, tacos al pastor pair savory meat with sweet pineapple and finely chopped onion. Discover the Lebanese influence behind this Mexican favorite and the seasonings and techniques that give each taco maker’s version its distinctive character.
Rich sauces and comforting fillings bring home-style cooking to the taco counters around Calle Colima and its neighboring streets. Tacos de guisado feature dishes such as potatoes with chorizo or chicken in a smoky tomato sauce, spooned into warm tortillas. Your local guide can explain the day’s selection, introducing the ingredients and family favorites behind these satisfying bites.
The hiss of a hot griddle and the aroma of seared meat draw attention to the eateries around Avenida Álvaro Obregón. Suadero, a tender beef filling often crisped on the griddle before serving, is one of the city’s distinctive taco specialties. Amid the boulevard’s leafy sidewalks and busy counters, learn how this cooking method creates a delicious contrast between juicy meat and browned edges.
Colorful produce and stalls stocked with Latin American ingredients offer a fresh perspective on the flavors you have tasted. At Mercado Medellín, browse with your local guide and discover how tomatillos, dried chilies, and fresh herbs bring acidity, depth, and fragrance to Mexican cooking. The market’s mix of regional products and imported specialties reflects the communities that have made this corner of Roma their home.

We had an amazing taco tour with Nicolas and can’t recommend him highly enough. He was warm, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. The tour felt truly personalised, and we loved discussing the history and architecture of Mexico City while visiting his favourite taco spots. Every place he took us to was outstanding – authentic local gems we never would have found on our own. Nicolas was personable, accommodating, and an endless source of fascinating insights about the city and its food culture. A great way to understand the city through its food. Highly recommended!
What a fun afternoon! Ingrid did a fantastic job choosing taco places to see. My husband is gluten free and she made sure to find places that could accommodate dietary restrictions and still give us a wonderful variety of tastes and experiences.
This was our favorite tour in Mexico City! Isaac was an amazing tour guide who took his time with us and made the experience so special. He took us to some amazing taco spots and a dessert place. He knew the Roma Norte neighborhood well and even took us to a park and gave history lesson. Issac started as a guide and left as a new friend.
Our guide Ninelth was very good, she adapted the tour just how we wanted. A little culture, history and food.
Wonderful tacos and conversation! Nick our guide was super knowledgeable and we appreciated his expertise on Mexico City.
Amazing tour, food and tacos. Marisol was great. Absolutely would recommend this and her to anyone!!
We had a great evening out with Marisol and learnt so much about the city, people, flowers and food. We would recommend this trip.
Nina was very friendly, professional, fun to spend the day with and took us to the best hidden gems in the city!
Unfortunately, this was our most disappointing tour in CDMX. I’d arranged a tour in our hotel area but at the last minute, our guide, Monica, talked us into taking a taxi to a different area of the city. That took almost 1/3 of our paid time - traffic was thick. Then, we ate at two taco places (vegetarian). Monica then tried to take us to a seafood taco place (we’re pescatarian)…but, upon our arrival, they were closed. This actually happened 3 times! All closed! And then she left. We never got our seafood tacos we’d been promised. It was a pretty disappointing experience and literally left us hungry. She needed to do better groundwork to know what was open. And she shouldn’t have had us waste so much time in a taxi.
Nenelth was a charming and informative host. Delicious tacos and all the restaurants had great atmosphere.
We had a good tour with Marisol. The tour was tailored and a bit off the beaten path. We were introduced to a flower market and experience a variety of food options
Marisol took us on an amazing tour of an off-the-beaten-path market, with stops for us to try food from stalls and taquerias that only locals would know about. She was warm, engaging, and full of information about the history of the areas we explored. Thanks from our family, Marisol!
In a city as large and vibrant as Mexico City is, using local knowledge is essential in getting the most out of the culinary side of things, and José delivered the goods in that regard. The tacos I ate were fantastic, and we also got to explore the historic Santa Maria neighborhood with the stunning Alameda Kiosk. Plus, we finished the tour with some excellent churros and chocolate.
Nico was a great guide and so much fun to be around. We all loved the joints we visited, and the food was absolutely delicious. Book this tour. You'll get to know a lot of the city and try authentic -not touristy- real Mexican food.
Alejandro was our guide and he was the best! We had an awesome time trying three different types of tacos around the city. Alejandro was kind, accommodating, and very knowledgeable about the city. I would highly recommend this experience!
Roberto took us through his favorite restaurants for 3 hours. With his passion and love for Mexico City and Mexican cuisine, he also awakened our desire for Mexican food. We also learned a lot of interesting facts about the city and its people and received tips for further activities. Thank you Roberto for the great time! We hope to see each other again!
This was a great way to see a lot of the city and try some amazing food that I would not have found on my own. Ingrid was a wonderful guide who gave me great advice on places to go and how to get around for the rest of my trip. Highly Recommend!
Great tour with an excellent foodie guide with a great sense of humor! Roberto was amazing and knew his stuff. We had the best time eating the best food! I highly recommend this tour.
My wife and I have done a number of food tours in our past travels, but over the years we've not done many as my wife developed dietary restrictions to include gluten and dairy. Most food tours tends to be a fixed routine of locations and food items, hence the reason this tour caught our eye when on our trip to Mexico city. It started with a call with Marisol before we had even started our vacation, we scheduled a brief call and discussed all the food restrictions. The day of our tour we met Marisol and she did an amazing job giving us many options to choose from giving us the feeling that we could decide where we'd like to go next and once we got to a location she'd give great recommendations on what from the menu we should avoid and what would be worth trying. In between stops for food Marisol walked us through the city telling us about the recent and not so recent history of Mexico City, talked about the surrounding architecture and happily answered all of our questions. At the end of the night we felt like we had made a new friend and could not have asked for a better way to have spent our evening.
Loved the taco tour! Roberto was a fabulous guide — took us to great taco places off and on the beaten path. Highly recommend
Well worth doing this private guided foodie experience! We really enjoyed being able to customise our experience and our guide Ernesto was flexible, knowledgeable and passionate! We did this on our first night in Mexico city and it gave us so much confidence to go out and explore on our own. Gracias Ernesto!
Marisol was wonderful! So friendly and knowledgeable. Also very understanding and made changes to cater to our interest and my tired child. Would definitely recommend.
We absolutely had a great experience with Ingrid. She knows the area very well, was very friendly, and showed us different taco places. We were able to try different flavours that we never saw in the US - everything was very tasty. We didn’t just go to established restaurant, we also hit the local market - something we probably wouldn’t be able to do ourselves - the market is HUUUUUGE. We felt we were eating like a local - thanks to Ingrid!
Nico our great and enthusiastic guide who gave us lots of interesting info and listened and answered all our questions. We had a variety of delicious tacos in a the Navarte (taco) neighbourhood… finishing up with an enlightening Mescal tasting (plus bonus birthday cake for one of us!). A great night out!
We had a great time with Lando wandering around Condesa and eating delicious tacos. Lando then took us on the Metrobus towards downtown and sent us a bunch of recommendations for the rest of your day.
Lando was a terrific guide - amazing sense of history, culture, architecture and of course, food! The time flew by and we all had a blast!
We had a blast walking around spotting all the taco places. Ernesto, our tour guide was beyond amazing. Fully bilingual in English and Spanish (he also speaks Portuguese, maybe another language too). We ate so good that tapped out.. Ernesto can customize your experience according to your needs. My boyfriend has celiac and can’t eat gluten. He designed our route to meet this criteria. Seriously, a fantastic experience. Thank you Ernesto for taking such great care of us.
We had an extremely enjoyable and delicious taco tour in Mexico City last Wednesday night led by our guide, Oskar. Oskar was delightful and very accommodating. He custom designed our tour to only take us to places that served vegan tacos. This was a first for Oskar but he did an awesome job! He arranged a progressive tour of several excellent vegan taco restaurants, taco stands and food carts. Everything was delicious and he even led us on a fun walking tour that was a wonderful introduction to the city. We highly recommend this tour and be sure to request Oskar!
Roberto was great. It was like I already knew him. He catered to my requests and adjusted as needed!
