Our guide Laila was energetic, artsy, knowledgeable and so fun! She took photos of us along the way. This is a fabulous tour with amazing museums and so many murals. We would have missed a few locations, if trying to do this on our own. We were shown Diego Rivera’s different styles and we were blown away with the amount of paintings he completed in his lifetime. We were also shown murals from other artists. Our group size was small, just four of us (and Laila), so we could ask many questions and pause at any point. Laila also recommended additional spots to see once our tour was over. Highly recommend this one! Well worth it!!

We had an amazing tour with Laila! She was very passionate about the murals and the history of Diego Rivera’s murals. In addition, she was able to adjust our tour when one of the museums was closed because of a local protest. The place she took us to instead was a hidden jam and we are so grateful that we got to see it. In addition, she gave us lots of other recommendations for things to do on our trip and went out of her way to make our trip memorable. We highly recommend Laila!
My husband and I met our guide at the Museo Vivo del Muralismo a little after 10am. She was very kind and pleasant and informed us it would just be my husband and I, which was nice. She asked if we had any others plans and we informed her we had another tour at 3pm. To which she said she would then cut the 6-hour tour short! I informed her the information said the tour was 10am to 1pm, not 6 hours. We spend about 2hrs at the first museum and after I expressed concerned over the time we rushed through the lower floor and headed to Palacio de Bellas Artes. It was super crowded and due to the time, it felt rushed as well. We headed lastly to Diego Rivera Mural Museum, which is appropriately named because there is only one mural, albeit a large one. It did also however have clean bathrooms we could use. We went over the mural quickly since by now it was after 1pm, we ended at about 1:45pm. Again, the tour guide was very kind, but the information was disorganized and scattered which is probably what led to the lack of time management. Additionally, the first museum, Museo Vivo del Muralismo, which houses most of Diego Riveras murals is free, the second one Palacio de Bellas Artes is 95 pesos pp (~$5.50 USD pp) and the last museum, Diego Rivera Mural museum, was 50 pesos pp (~ $3 USD pp). So, was it worth it? You can decide.
Our guide was exceptional (David) It was a wonderful experience! We would recommend this guide and this tour.
Wonderful guide with Francisco- great passion for the murals . Excellent tour around 3 galleries .Amazing
Experiencing the Historic Center of CDMX through Diego Rivera’s murals is a must. There’s so much cultural, social, and political commentary in his work. Laila is the best!
The tour is very good. We love Rivera's work and are now much more informed. David was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about impacting his knowledge. The cost was very reasonable.
Laila was our guide and she was so knowledgeable and friendly. Her understanding of all Diego Rivera’s murals was very helpful, and my wife and I both learned much about this artist and the meaning behind his work. This particular tour was a highlights of our trip to Mexico. We both highly recommend this tour. John and Sue
My guide was Jorge and he was excellent. We met at the Museo Vivo del Muralismo . Jorge showed me the history of Mexico, the details and symbolism in Diego’s murals. He explained the necessity of the 1910 Mexican Revolution and the stages of birthing Mexico as it is today contained in the murals. He told me how the color of the paint pigment came from the earth and plants native to Mexico. The story told by these murals are important, beautiful and passionate. Next we went to the Museo de Belle Arts to see “The Man on The Crossroads”, and explore the story and symbolism contained in this mural. Jorge introduced the works of other muralists here as well. Our final stop was to see “ Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in Alameda Park”. Again Jorge explained the what this mural was about beautifully. This is the first private tour I have taken and I am very satisfied. Jorge was knowledgeable, and very easy be be with. I felt relaxed and engaged for the whole tour. Thank you Jorge.
We went on this tour with Francisco who was a brilliant guide to this fascinating aspect of Mexico City. He introduced us to the murals at the Museo Vivo del Muralismo, the Colegio San Idelfonso and the Museo Diego Rivera. He was extremely knowledgeable and clearly passionate about his subject, and he speaks excellent English. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and recommend it 100%.
I booked this tour through TripAdvisor, unsure of what my spouse and I were going to experience. Our guide, Jorge, was wonderful—truly the perfect guide. He provided insightful information about the murals while delivering a world-class history lesson on Mexican heritage, art, and the politics of the era. I highly recommend Jorge to anyone interested in learning more about Mexican heritage and its powerful art scene!
A wonderful tour. It may seem expensive, but Leila was happy to spend as much time as with us as we wished. We spent several hours absorbed in the incredible murals at different locations, but especially at the mural museum which is the old Education building. We have been before but Leila bought every mural (and there are many!) to life with explanations of the political and cultural ideas being communicated by Rivera. In our opinion this is the number one thing to do in Mexico City. Leila was an absolute pleasure to spend time with and we have already recommended her to other friends who are coming to Mexico City
The tour gave a comprehensive overview of mural artists in Mexico, especially Diego Rivera’s work. Our guide, David, shared a wealth of information and was so eager and patient in answering our questions. He went out of his way to make the tour interesting and timely. His insights and knowledge of art provided an excellent context for these masterpieces. All of us came away with a much better understanding of muralists in Mexico and how significant their work still is today. Do not miss this experience. And by all means, request David as your guide!
Fantastic tour! Francisco our guide was absolutely outstanding! He was flexible, warm, and incredibly knowledgeable. It truly felt like having a family member showing us around the city— someone who cared deeply about the museums and our experience. This tour also takes you to a surprise location that you will not want to miss. It surpassed my expectations. Highly recommend!
Laila was awesome for knowledgeable and passionate about her city, art, and Diego Rivera. Thorough in her explanations and patient with us as we ventured away at times.
Look no further for your guided tour of Diiego Rivers’s murals. We had the most amazing guide Leila. She has extensive knowledge of Diego Rivers’s artist life and understanding of his murals. She also knows her City well and Mexicos history, all very interesting. As a special treat she took us to Pastelaria Ideal - a must visit
I can't speak highly enough about the tour guide David. He is a great ambassador for your service. Whatever you pay him it's not enough.
We absolutely loved this tour. Laila was passionate and deeply knowledgeable — her interpretation of Diego Rivera’s murals, full of historical context and vivid detail, made the works come alive. Her enthusiasm was infectious; we left feeling enriched, fascinated by Mexican history and culture, and big fans of Rivera’s work. Can’t recommend it enough!
The Diego Rivera Murals and Hidden Treasures excursion far exceeded my expectations mainly because of our highly knowledgeable and spirited guide Laila. Looking at Diego Rivera’s murals are impressive in and of themselves, but the histories and significances pointed out by Laila delivered a much more meaningful experience. I have seen other Diego Rivera works and collections. After this particular excursion, however, much of them now are woven together in a way that has completely enriched what I have learned about the life and art of Diego Rivera
This was an immersive and thorough experience with an knowledgeable guide. She was personable, enlightening and her appreciation of art and Diego Rivera's murals shined in her presentation. It's really the only way to see his murals and fully understand their meaning and gain insight into his life! I learned a lot!
After finding Pies Descalzos through a Google search, I met Laila, the company’s owner. Laila was immediately so enthusiastic, detail oriented, and thoughtful about planning our tour. A friend and I wanted a better understanding of art in Mexico City through the lens of history, politics and culture. Laila delivered a 2.5 day itinerary set up chronologically: we began at Teotihuacan, traveled through the Zocalo to Templo Mayor, The Palacio National, and Bellas Artes. We concluded in Coyoacán with Casa Pedgregal and Casa Azul. Our tour guide, David, was absolutely incredible. He possesses a stunning amount of knowledge about Pre-Hispanic, 18th century, and modern day Mexico. His storytelling weaved art, architecture, natural sciences, politics, history, religion and the perfect touch of gossip. David possesses a natural and contagious passion for his city - seeing and understand Mexico City through his lens made the difference between the average tour and a truly special experience. I’ve tried, but I couldn’t say enough good things about my expedience with David, Laila and Pies Descalzos.
We enjoyed a fantastic walking tour of Diego Rivera's Murals with our guide Jorge. Jorge was very courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. He gave us so much background and information regarding the artist and events we were seeing depicted in the murals. Without this background from Jorge, the experience would have been much less informative and fulfilling. Jorge was so patient, always allowing time for photos and questions and never making us feel rushed. It was a wonderful tour and we highly recommend the tour company (Pies Descalzos) and Jorge as your guide. Thank you, Jorge, for a wonderful experience in Mexico City!
Amazing experience learning the history and seeing the art of Diego Rivera. David was a wonderful and flexible guide for us.
We absolutely loved this tour! While most of these murals are available without a tour guide, the opportunity to have a guide who was passionate about Diego Rivera's work made the experience of seeing these amazing pieces far more interesting. Our guide, David, had such a passion for Mexico, art, local culture and politics, and was able to help really weave a fuller picture that placed these works in context, both at the time of Rivera's creation of the murals, as well as their role in Mexico today. It felt like we spent the day with a good friend. I would suggest that of all the tours I've been on throughout my travels, this was the single best tour guide I've ever had. Anyone interested in Diego Rivera, Mexican art, or even just want to see a deeper dive into Mexican culture, this would be an ideal tour. And all this without even mentioning how amazing it was to see so much of Rivera's work up close, which was a real treat.
Found out all museums are closed on Mondays in Mexico City yet you took my booking anyway Two of three museums were closed so we could not see Diego Rivera murals as promised. Management should know that all museums are closed on Mondays and not accept any tours of museums on that day. Would appreciate a refund for such a gross error on your part and disappointment on our part for not getting to see murals as promised. Guide was embarassed and did the best he could under the circumstances
I had the best experience on today’s tour with David! He’s incredibly knowledgeable about Diego Rivera and the murals, and made the history come alive in such an engaging way. Beyond just sharing facts, he’s truly fascinating to listen to and made the whole experience fun and effortless. I felt really well taken care of the entire time. Honestly, a 10/10 guide, I couldn’t recommend him more highly!
This was a wonderful tour. Our guide was excellent, so friendly and well informed, we learned a lot about the life and art of Diego Rivera
I (25M 🇺🇸) signed up same day for the Spanish tour of Diego Rivera murals. On arrival, I met my guide from Pies Descalzos who showed me around el colegio, el museo de murales, bellas artes, and museo de mural de Diego Rivera. Laila was clearly knowledgeable and passionate about the material - ¡muchas gracias, Laila! At the end, the guide left me with gifts and many museum & food recommendations. Highly recommend!
I (Solo M25 🇺🇸) signed up same day for the Spanish tour of Diego Rivera murals. My guide, Laila, was friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the material. At the end of the tour, she shared many hidden gems of food and museums around the city and gave me free gifts. Gracias Laila, you are the best!
Laila went above and beyond on her tour. Very knowledgeable and personable guide. We were caught by a rainstorm and she was quick to find us a secure dry place to continue her Downtown tour of Mexico City.
We knew we wanted to see some of Diego Rivera’s murals while in Mexico City but we didn’t know where to start. This tour with Laila took us to places we wouldn’t have known about on our own and gave us a greater understanding of the murals and their significance. I highly recommend this tour if you want to better appreciate the art and history of CDMX!
