The temazcal, a traditional sweat lodge utilized by various ancient cultures in Mexico like the Mexicas, Mayas, Zapotecas, Mixtecas and other indigenous groups, is typically constructed as a hut or dome made from mud, stone, wood, or branches covered with fabrics, depending on the region. Inside this structure, hot rocks are placed at the center to generate heat, and water infused with medicinal plants is poured over them to create steam that has therapeutic properties and is used for both physical and spiritual well-being. The temazcal serves as a space for purification of the body and mind, connection with nature, and honoring ancestral traditions. Revered as sacred by many indigenous communities, this practice is still use in various parts of Mexico as part of healing rituals. Huitzi, is our main shaman, originally from a small town in Oaxaca. Since moving to Mexico City a few years back, he founded Aldea Tonatzin, a place dedicated to preserving the authentic traditions of the Zapoteca culture. Presently, along with María, his friend and apprentice, they run the traditional Zapoteca temazcal with the goal of sharing the Zapoteca heritage worldwide.
Beautiful ceremony with kind translator and nahual. We had a small group and thus the time in the temazcal was a little under 90 minutes but it did feel it held the depth needed for our group. Very sweet and rewarding experience

I wasn't sure what to expect and was so happy to meet like-minded souls seeking healing and personal transformation, not just cultural tourism. Bring your authentic self, don't be afraid or self-conscious. I felt very safe knowing I could take a break from the heat if needed, but note that it's one long session so you may not be let back in right away if you leave to cool down. Hydrate well before-hand and set an intention before you go of what you are shedding. I look forward to coming back next time I'm in Mexico!
This Temazcal was a good experience. It was very different than the last one I experienced. The meeting place was easy to find and the guide Maria, that picked us up was great at explaining everything to us. We were not rushed and time to sit and take it all in.
Maria held such a safe space! We had an all women's group this time which was perfect for me as a solo traveler. The space is so lovely with a garden, outdoor showers, changing rooms and bathrooms. The temazcal itself is super spacious and the ceremony is lifechanging! I recommend anyone do this if they are at a crossroads or seeking answers within.

This Zapotec temazcal in the heart of CDMX mountainside was absolutely life-changing. Guided by the amazing María and shaman Huitzi, our family celebrated my 50th birthday in the most meaningful way possible. The ceremony was sacred, healing, and unlike anything we’ve ever experienced. The property was a mesmerizing oasis and organic paradise. Inside the steam-filled dome, infused with herbs and chants, we felt both physically renewed and spiritually connected. María’s enthusiastic translation and our shaman’s experienced guidance made our participation safe, intimate, and unforgettable. If you’ve never done a Temazcal, this is as close to epic as it gets. A must-do in Mexico City, and we will definitely return!

Honestly, incredible experience. Convenient location for pickup / drop-off. The ride to the location is not far (depending on traffic). The ceremony itself is wonderful. It will get hot, it will be dark, and when you exit the Temazcal, you will feel born again. Lighter, not only because of the heat and sweat, but energy wise. It is a great cleanse. A reset. 10/10 recommend, I look forward to doing it again.
Maria and Nagual Huitzi facilitated such a unique and memorable experience for my wife and I. Maria picked up the group at the meeting location and it was about a half an hour drive (very little traffic) to the temazcal location. Maria showed the group around the garden, we used the restroom, then changed into our temazcal outfits (swim suit/work out/loose clothing you can sweat through). Maria recommended we take all jewelry off and avoid any clothing with metal on it since it heats up and can be uncomfortable. We then walked through the medicinal herb garden and bundled all plants that called to us. Huitzi interpreted the medicinal plants we chose and what it means for our life. Maria translated so well and so seamlessly. We were cleansed at the entrance of the temazcal where we spent about an hour in a guided experience. When we exited, it was dusk and we were encouraged to take it easy and wander the garden again if called. My wife and I bought a LOT of honey and some fertilizer cultivated by Huitzi at the gift shop. They accept cash or transfer. This was a really moving experience that I’m still feeling days later, I hope we can return! Thank you Maria and Huitzi!

This pre-Hispanic Shaman ritual was hands-down one of the most profound experiences of my life. Not only was Maria, our host, incredibly communicative, engaging and accommodating, but her talent for translating Huitzi's words truly made a difference in the experience. As for Huitzi, his powerful facilitation of the ritual was just so... poetic. I cried multiple times inside the sweat lodge just because the insights I received hit me so hard. Maria, Huitzi, and their understudies, Julio and Sasha, made us feel very safe, and they emphasized that we were free to do this at our own pace and comfort level, and to leave anytime we needed to. And of course, I made some wonderful friends at the ritual itself. We all shared our stories afterwards and grabbed lunch together. This doesn't always happen in my Airbnb experiences, but something about the Temazcal just makes it so natural. If you love spiritual experiences, this is DEFINITELY the activity for you. This was my third temazcal. I went on my birthday. I have been having a particularly challenging time with my family. Estrangements. Shocking. Something that could really mess a person up. I have been working to recover. My intention for this temazcal was: Rebirth with Wisdom. Every temazcal is different. This one, led by Temazcalero Maria, was very feminine and creative, scented with flowers and tasting of honey. The temazcal ritual is all about re-connecting with Mother Earth, and to begin we were invited to walk in the beautiful gardens and pick any flower that called to us that we could bring into the temezcal. Maria said that if the flower called to us, we needed its medicine. I needed a lot so had a little bouquet! I am from BC Canada where I have an intimate connection to the forest there. I live in Mexico City most of the time now and am working hard to develop a relationship with the plants and trees here. I began to feel a real connection during my invitation and experience walking through the wild gardens at Cosmos Inner-Harmony. Temazcalera Maria's attention to detail was both organic and impeccable. We welcomed each Abuela (grandmother) as they were brought one-by-one into the temazcal: the hot volcanic stones that are mostly from the nearby active volcano Popocatépetl. With the Abuela's and Maria's lyrical words of wisdom and song, I really felt the Abuela's this time. The re-birth with wisdom that the Cosmos Inner-Harmony Temazcal, the Abuelas and Maria gave me is: Paz y Alegría Peace and Joy I highly recommend this Temazcal experience! It's worth every peso. It's also very close to Mexico City. A little paradise where you can purge yourself of toxins to continue living in a revived and grounded manner re-connecting with our Great Mother. Maria was the best!! I’ve never felt like that before. I was the only one during my experience and im glad that it happened that way. She told me the history on the way to the temazcal which really set me up to receive and embrace everything. Once we got there I felt the energy. Especially being under the full moon. This was one of the most transformative experiences of my life and was definitely the highlight of my stay in CMDX! I wasn't sure what to expect but felt very looked after and held through the process. The location just outside of CMDX was beautiful and immediately calming. Huitzi and Maria both created an environment from the beginning that felt true to who they both were, rooted in historic practice and also accessible to those of us experiencing the temazcal for the first time. I recommended Maria and Huitzi to many of my friends and went on to do some more experiences with them later! Can not recommend more!

I experienced the Temezcal ritual, it was amazing. The setting and location were so authentic. My guide, Maria was wonderful, informative and chill. After it was over my body and mind both relaxed and recharged. I’ll be back for sure!!!!!
This was my 1st Temazcal and I went into the experience with an open mind and heart. We were picked up from a Starbucks location and driven to the grounds of the Temazcal by one of Huitzi’s students, who was on time and very professional. When we arrived at the grounds, we were given a tour of the area and greeted by Huitzi. We then changed into our clothes for the ceremony and received a drink of hot cacao. While we were drinking our cacao, we were given a history of the Temazcal and the background of Huitzi. Prior to entering, we were individually given some intentions to focus on. Once everyone was in, the heated lava rocks are placed in the middle, the hole was covered, then came the sweat! Huitzi and his team were great during the entire ceremony and made sure everyone feeling well to proceed. Throughout the entire experience, Huitzi‘s words were translated superbly and seamlessly to avoid interrupting the flow of the experience. After crawling out the hole, we individually rinsed off under a cold shower and laid on the ground to process what happened. Then, we were given fennel tea to drink, and some time to speak about our Temazcal experience. We were then driven back to Starbucks. Overall, it was an amazing time, and I would love to return!
