Ulysses was a very friendly and knowledgeable guide. The sights were very interesting and surprising in their appearance. The caves were a particular highlight.

Our guide Ulises was terrific, knowledgeable and very friendly. The tour was well balanced with the wonder of the caves in the morning and the exquisite town of Taxco in the afternoon. We had an excellent mid-day meal which was recommended by Ulises. He was interesting, engaging and translated as needed during the cave tour. All in all, a great day. Cannot recommend it highly enough. Maria & Scott
Moderate level of activity with walking with a bit humidity inside grottos. Designed illumination highlights nature's breathtaking wonders.
My partner and I had a fantastic time on this tour. The guide Ulises has been the best guide we have had in Mexico. Very friendly and a wealth of knowledge. He was able to answer pretty much any question we could come up with. The cave was amazing to see and Taxco is definitely worth seeing. Such a unique landscape. The lunch location had beautiful views but it was definitely priced for tourists. Overall I would highly recommend.
Ulises was a wonderful driver and guide for the day trip. He kept constantly aware of how we were doing and ensured we were enjoying ourselves, and shared a lot of nice information about our destinations. We did not feel pressured or hurried at any time during the day.
We had such an amazing experience visiting the caves and Taxco! The caves were incredible and HUGE! And Taxco was so beautiful and cute - I wish we had more time to explore! We will just have to return! The view from the restaurant is jaw dropping. Our guide, Ulises, was so informative, compassionate, and genuinely so fun to talk to, even on the long drives. If you can, request him!! It’s a long day but we highly recommend - it’s so worth it!
It was a fantastic trip. The caves were spectacular. Almost a private tour because we went during a hot time and early morning. Nice and cool in the cave. Our guide, Ulises was great! He made great conversation on the car ride and made sure we were all taken care of from start to finish. Highly recommend.
The tour itself is very complete. Convenient options to meet, our driver Cesar was very friendly and helpful. The places we visited were extraordinary. The cave is magnificent; it is a 2 mile guided walk through this amazing view of stalactites and stalagmites, our guide Roberto had plenty of funny and interesting information about the place, at the end the return is on your own but is well illuminated and the path is easy to follow. The total walk is 4 miles with plenty of stairs but without any doubt it is worth it. Taxco is beautiful!!! Just to be there and enjoy the town is enough but our guide Estephano was sure to take us to key points of the town including a beautiful church and a restaurant with delicious food. The only negative thing I can say about this tour is the traveling from Mexico City and back. It is long and tedious, Cesar was wonderful on trying to make it better but the distance and traffic is something that just can not be controlled and it needs to be done to be able to have this marvelous experience, without any doubt, I will recommend it.
The caves were spectacular and Taxco was okay, if a bit touristy. I really like the driver, Cesar, who was very friendly and passionate about Mexico.
The caves and Taxco were amazing, well worth the drive. Our guide/drive Oscar was very professional and knowledgeable. I highly recommend him and the tour. Ethan O.
Ulysses is a WONDERFUL guide. He picked us up and took us to the caves. I really can't say enough about him. If you want an amazing experience, ask the company for him! He's so kind and passionate about his work. What a refreshing and amazing trip we had. Will definitely use this company again and ask for Ulysses.
Javier was a Very nice driver;kind and helpful Dropped us off at our hotel on the way back even if there was so many traffic jam The caves are a must see👍
Las Gurtas de Cacahuamilpa are incredible. Be prepared to walk! Taxco is a magical town with amazing architecture and food.
This was an amazing tour. Our guide, Ulises (I hope I'm spelling his name correctly), was great - very informative, polite, accommodating, and interesting. During the 3 hour ride to and back from all the sites, he and my husband had lively conversations that kept them preoccupied. The tour lasted longer than expected because there was so much to see, and Ulises was flexible. He never rushed us and took his time explaining the sights that we saw. As for the sights, wow, the caves are a must see! Pictures do not do it justice. The scale of it and the magnificent stalagmites and stalactites were majestic. I'm not sure you can see anything like it elsewhere. As for Taxco, I thought it was a beautiful and interesting city that is worth a trip but I wouldn't go on this tour just to see the city only. But that's just my opinion - my husband enjoyed the town immensely. The only downside was that the restaurant that they brought us to had great views but the food was so-so. I'd say the tour is a bargain at this price. The sights were amazing and so was the guide!
An exceptional tour - as a single traveller, I initially couldn't book this trip, but by contacting and keeping in touch with Francisco from Travis Adventures, we were able to sort out a date whereby I could join another group. The caves are astonishing and Taxco is a little gem of a place, albeit very busy at this time of the year. Ulises, our guide for the day, was extremely courteous, very knowledgeable and we felt completely at ease with him. A big part of the day is the driving, but that shouldn't be a deterrent to booking this trip. An excellent trip all round.
I went on this experience with my mom and my aunt. They’re in their 50’s so I wanted a comfortable trip for them, and this reservation was almost perfect — comfortable car and great tour spots with a great guide for sure. I think a lot of the experience depends on what driver/guide you get paired with, and our guide Ulises was great — safe driver, knowledgeable about our tour spots and Mexico in general, plus generally amicable. He was great at explaining things in both English and Spanish, and made us feel very welcomed and engaged. FYI, this tour requires a decent level of physical ability — the caves and Taxco are both destinations where you must walk at least a little. The caves have I believe about 5km worth of walking and stairs, with an option to turn around halfway through, before the stairs. Taxco has a lot of traffic and is best enjoyed walking, but the streets can be quite steep as it is a town on a hill. Our group handled it well, and did the full cave route + walked a bit less in Taxco, but we were definitely tired out by the end of the night. Not a bad thing, and probably less walking than joining a tour bus (worse parking + less autonomy to opt out in my experience), but just an FYI!
The Caves are great but the stop in Tasco could be better. The tour there is mostly going to the restaurant and to the silver jewellery shop. They did not took us to the cable car as expected from the tour description.
This was a very unique tour and definitely worth the 3 hour drive in the car. The tour guide, Ulises, was very friendly, a great guide, and translator. The city of Taxco had beautiful architecture and rich history. The caves were gorgeous, although a bit of a trek :) Highly recommend!
The cave tour was amazing, Taxco tour was sweet and pleasant. Our driver/guide Xavier did a great job for making our trip very memorable. Highly recommend!
It was a private tour and we were absolutely excited about it: - Nice new car - Great driver (drives very carefully) and with perfect English - Amazing huge caves - Beautiful town in mountains
Enormous caves that are interesting to walk through. Guides are knowledgeable but check they have one that speaks English. Zipline to entrance was fun too.
The good parts are that the cave is amazing and we arrived safe at all destinations. The issues that we had are that the guide is not a guide, they are just a driver really, at Taxco you are transferred to a local guide who is really just taking you to the most tourist trap places ever to separate you from your money. You’re not feeling as a person, but as a walking wallet. I would assume most people are booking a private tour to get away from this sort of feeling. Also even as a fit person, the back seat of the car was very uncomfortable for the rise length.
This tour is very expensive, and not exactly "private/small group" since the cave portion is with a larger, Spanish-speaking group. Some parts of the cave may still been natural but majority of it is very commercialized (for example, there is a bathroom inside the cave and snacks for sale). Our translator/tour guide was generally fluent in English, but he only translated around 20-30% of the cave tours, which were conducted in Spanish. The town Taxco was pretty cute and had some neat pieces of history. Also, we arrived on time to the meeting point, and the bus driver only took a picture of the IDs of people who arrived early/on time but not those who arrived late, which essentially penalizes those who arrived early/on time. We don't feel right for them to keep a picture of our ID. Overall, there are enjoyable portions but would recommend spending your money elsewhere.
This was a trip that was worth every dollar! And a review that is long overdue :) I think it starts with the driver, who sets the tone for the trip. Our driver Mauricio Becerril was the best! He was punctual, very courteous & patient with us. He was mindful as well, as he made stops to give us a bathroom break. The ride from Mexico City to Cachuamilpa was about 2 hours. We got safely to our destination and waited to go inside the caves. Mauricio told us to take our time and he would wait for us outside. We saw bats at the entry of the caves, which was pretty cool. The caves themselves were amazing. Mind blowing to see all the natural formations that took place inside the caves. We were part of a tour but decided to leave the tour and go on our own as we couldn't hear the guide well. The caves have a lit up path and you can only go so far in as when you reach the end, it turns you around. I would suggest you were comfortable shoes, and bring water... After coming out the cave (about 4 miles walking distance to and from), we were greeted by food and beverage vendors. We walked over to one of the little stores and got some adult beverages and enjoyed some homemade snacks. Mauricio then spotted us and joined us. We then left for Taxco. Taxco is an amazing place with amazing food! The ride from Cacahuamilpa to Taxco was about an hour. We got the the downtown area and Mauricio dropped us off. He told us where to meet him after we explored the area and had lunch. Taxco is a very small pueblo with a lot of History. We enjoyed walking around, shopping and had lunch at a rooftop restaurant, which had some of the most delicious farm-to-table type of food we had throughout our trip. We will definitely come back to Taxco! We left Taxco and headed back to Mexico City. Maurcio was a pleasure to be with during our ride. We felt very safe with him. I'm certain that all the drivers hired for these tours are great but if you get a chance to request one, ask for Mauricio!
Caves are a natural geologic wonder. Taxco is beautiful. Our driver Javier spoke excellent english and answered my many questions about sites along the road. A great change of pace from the CDMX metropolis
We shared a car with two other couples who all spoke English. Chatting with them made the drive go by super quick! The caves were very cool. Definitely worth the trip. It’s hot and humid down there (we didn’t dress appropriately and we’re quite warm!). Taxco is adorable, beautiful and full of history. It was a perfect day. All our tour guides were excellent!
Our driver was very serious and was driving very unsafe at times. He didn’t even offer us to use the restroom on the way to or from. He didn’t speak much. The tour itself was nice, but I wouldn’t recommend it.
Taxco was beautiful! High elevation, gorgeous views. Shopping, lunch, not much else to do... Caves were very cool and expansive! Over mile walk in and mile out. 2hr drive there and back where you can see all the green mountains of Mexico and drive past a fee towns. Enjoyable day! Something different to do!
It was great to see the caves, and this was one of the only options I could find to go there. However, the tour overall was just okay and it ended up costing us more than anticipated with the extra charges throughout the day. I have been on many tours with energetic and engaging guides, but this tour did not have an overall tour guide, and we were with only the driver for most of the day. On most tours where there is a long drive, there is commentary on the surrounding area and culture (like was stated in the inclusions). The driver barely spoke during the entire trip and didn't communicate what to do once we arrived in a place. We only found out how long we had in certain places and when to meet back at the van when we asked him. We left right on time from the Sheraton at 8 am, but were still 10 minutes late to the 10 am guided tour of the caves, so we had to pay an extra 450 pesos for another guide or wait until 11 am and have a shorter time in Taxco. In Taxco, we had to buy our own tickets for the gondola ride. With tipping the 3 guides (driver, cave guide and Taxco guide), the price of lunch, the extra cost for the tour at the caves and the gondola ride, the tour ended up costing us more than expected.
The cave was amazing. Taxco is as well. It would have been better to have about an hour more of free time in Taxco as there was very little.
Francisco was a great tour guide. Very friendly and it was well worth doing the private tour as he catered to our needs. The grutas was an amazing experience and Taxco is a well preserved town with lots of history and beautiful sites. All in all, awesome 👌🏼 experience..
The trip was advertised as a bilingual tour and while our guide did speak some English, the tour of the actual cave was done in Spanish and not translated by our guide Mariano. Just keep this in mind when you book this tour. The cave itself is amazing and not to be missed!
The teleférico from Monte Taxco provides stunning views. The caves too can be awe-inspiring. Taxco itself is overwhelming needs to be approached with consideration.
Exceptional tour with a friendly, knowledgeable guide! Taxco is gorgeous, and the cave system is too large for pictures or video to capture it!
My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed this trip to the Cacahuamilpa caves and Taxco. Our driver, Javier, was kind and accommodating and also informative about the areas we visited. The caves were truly an incredible site to behold and worth the 2 hour drive outside the city. It felt like much more of a local experience than a super touristy one. Just a note though the tour through the caves is in Spanish (which I'm learning so I didn't mind and my boyfriend is fluent so he could fill in any blanks for me). Stefano, our guide in Taxco, and Javier both spoke English though since I'm not as strong in my Spanish speaking skills. Taxco was also a beautiful city and definitely worth seeing. The sights were wonderful and it's a perfect excursion outside the city.
Just a different part of this big world. Great to see. Super guide, meal and information. Loved it. Pass our thanks on to Mariano.
Tour guide was very good, spoke very well English. This trip is amazing, the caves are huge and the city of Taxco is amazing. Can definitely recommend this trip!
Javier was a welcoming, accommodating, and funny tour guide. He very patiently translated the Spanish-language tour of the caves for us and was certainly knowledgeable about the area (enough to give the tour himself!). Our trip to Taxco was also such a pleasure, as we ate lunch with a scenic view of Taxco, attempted to take the chairlift from the mountainside to town (thwarted by rain, though!), and learned about the rich history of the town through Javier and his associate Stefano. Highly recommend!
It was a very good trip. Our guide/driver was very personable and made sure we were comfortable. We were the only people on the tour so we got to talk to the guide about a lot of things. The caves were amazing. Much larger than we anticipated. The caves are fairly warm. Most cave tours we take, the cave is cold but this cave is warm and humid. So dress accordingly. Taxco was beautiful and reminded us of Granada, Spain. You do get a local Taxco guide that walks you around and tells you town history.
This trip was magnificent, the driver Mr. Javier showed exactly on time at the hotel, picked us up, very friendly, nice manners and professional and a good driver and good English. The trip in the caves was mind blowing for me, such an amazing experience, then the trip to Taxco, also very beautiful village, our tour guide there was Stefano, also super nice person with good English, the restaurant at the top of the mountain has a very beautiful view the food was also very tasty I had Mole Rosa. The cable car was fun, I recommend that you get round trip on it. On the first leg, just enjoy the view, don't take out you camera yet. do it on the way back so you have better knowledge of what to shoot Overall I absolutely recommend this trip
Our guide was great. Picked us up on time at our AirBnB and was an excellent driver. The caves were fantastic. We got to Taxco early afternoon and ate lunch at a hotel with an amazing view and was reasonably priced. We spent about an hour in the town, which we wish we had a little bit longer to explore on our own. Would recomend this trip for those who wish to get out of the city and see the Mexican landscape and natural beauty.
This was one of the best tours we have ever experienced. Very well organized from the start to the end. Better then expected, We visited very interesting places and the lunch in the hotel above the Taxco was awesome. The real gem was our tour guide - Javier. Simply the best. We were talking about everything (history, politics, culture, sport) in Mexico and Czech Republic (our home country) and he has good knowledge about all. Javier promoted this tour to very high level. Muchas gracias Javier and we highly reccommend this tour.
My boyfriend and I went on this tour as a day trip during an 8-day visit to Mexico City, and we both loved it. For those who aren’t sure what to expect, the caves are massive (some areas around 80 metres tall) and very impressive. These are not little caves that you’re climbing around through - there is a large built walkway and stairs to get around. A little slippery in spots but otherwise accessible to anyone who can do some light walking and stairs. The visit to Taxco afterwards was lovely - beautiful town on a hillside, reminded us of parts of historic Lisbon and Italy. It was a nice afternoon exploring the shops and markets, and our guide let us know where to go to buy the best-priced silver products. Even the car ride (~2 hours each way) was lovely with lots of beautiful mountain scenery we wouldn’t have seen otherwise. Overall great experience!
Advertised as a private tour - was not. I would call it semi private (another couple was with us). This led to significant delays vs a private tour (90 min in the morning to drive across town to pick up the other couple + plus another 90 min as the other couple explored the caves longer then we wanted to). Javier was a great driver / host, but I'm very disappointed not getting what was advertised.
Javier was so sweet and took great care of us. The caves are beautiful and Javier stayed with us and translated the tour for us and took some of the best photos! We highly recommend taking the private tour with Javier as opposed to a big group tour so you get the amazing experience this place deserves
Our tour guide Francisco picked me and my husband at our Centro Historico hotel on time to begin our journey. He arrived in a nice and comfortable van. Francisco was polite but not talkative at all, which made for an odd trip to Guerrero. On our way to the caves we passed many towns and even the City of Cuernavaca, Morelos. At no time did our guide point out any of the areas we we passing, including Cuernavaca. Whenever I would ask a question, he answered right away, but his responses were short and we went back to silence for most of the trip. Although our guide drove very fast for most of the way, we for to the caves a few minutes past the first tour at 10:00 am, so the group had already left and my husband and I were told to run to catch up with the tour group, which was not nice, as it would have been nice to enjoy the nature walk on the way to the entrance of the cave, Francisco did not accompany us. He stayed at the covered shopping area by the parking lot. I speak Spanish, so I was able to translate the tour information to my husband, but please be advised that the facility tours are the caves are in Spanish only. The caves are 2 kilometers in both directions, so be prepared for a good walk. However, the long walk, moisture and heat of cave are all worth the impressiveness of the caves. They really are majestic, and the whole path is paved and illuminated, so it feels very safe inside. After we left the caves we head to Taxco, which I always wanted to visit. The town is beautiful, nested on the side of a mountain with all white houses, it reminded me a lot of Spain and the area of el Albacín in Granada. When we first arrived, we were taken to Hotel Montetaxco, for lunch, and after that headed to the center of the city where we would meet a "local tour guide", which was nothing but a five minute "tour" of the church and then took us to a silver shop for a mandatory sales pitch. After that Francisco, our guide instructed us to meet him back at the plaza in one hour to head back. I thought one hour in Taxco was nothing. I would have much more enjoyed eating wherever I wanted and not have to go through the so called city tour. It would have been good if these details would have been mentioned in advance, specially since this was a private tour, but again, our guide just did not communicate at all. I would have appreciated more information about the history of the town, and its traditions. At one point we passed a statue of the masked procession on Holly Week, and I had to explain it to my husband from the little I know about it. Francisco said nothing. On the way back to Mexico City, I talked to Francisco in Spanish about the economy and politics and he appeared more engaged, but still, there was no valuable information related to the tour or the sites we visited. He also drove extremely fast, to the point I tough he was going to flip the van on some of the curves. In summary, both of the sites visited made it worth the trip. Both the caves and the city of Taxco as beautiful it their own way and that is the reason I am giving it four stars and recommend you see them. The tour itself lacks a lot. More than a tour, we had a chauffeur for the day.
Very impressive caves, highly recommend anyone interested in casual spelunking. We have been in over a dozen caves throughout North America and this was better then most and as good as any. Our guide was also excellent, fluid in English, as our Spanish is spotty, he was very helpful and deserving of the tip.
The Good: You get curb to curb service and a very courteous, efficient, and attentive English speaking driver/guide. We were one of two groups picked up and transported by van for a headcount of five American gringos. These two destinations are 111 miles (2.5hr) south of CDMX (a third of the way to Acapulco). Accordingly, you get a full dose of the wonderful mountainous countryside that you may otherwise never get to see. The Cacahuamilpa caverns are huge and extensive and quite beautiful. They have fewer remarkable mineral deposits than some caves, but make up for it in sheer scale. Emerging from this extensive tour, you proceed to nearby Taxco. Taxco is very impressive topographically, architecturally, and culturally. You begin with lunch at the hilltop Hotel Montetaxco, with its panoramic view of the town and then proceed down the (optional) cable car to the other side of the valley. This is a blast and not to be missed. There you are collected and taken to the beautiful church of Santa Prisca de Taxco. A terse English language tour is provided by a local guide, where after you are loosed on the Plaza Borda for a short while. Soon you are collected for the journey home. The Not So Good: The caverns: The facilities there are more rural than the modern standard in CDMX. I got no cell service in the valley. The caves are also (surprisingly) quite moist and warm. While our driver/guide stayed with us, we were assigned to the very large Spanish language tour run by the park. These were apparently very funny, but quite opaque to those of use stranded in English. We looked and marveled, but did not laugh. Arguably the caves really do speak for themselves. In Taxco, the locals seem to confine the tourist trains to designated roads and areas. These areas of Taxco were pretty tourist-choked when I was there. The amount of free time you have in central Taxco is minimal, maybe 30 minutes after the church tour. This was disappointing as I could have consumed any amount of time walking the streets. I can just imagine how wonderful and overnight there would be, after the hordes pull out. (I had the same reaction to Toledo, daytripper afflicted before evening, magical by night.) But this was a day trip and already a lengthy one at that, so my expectations should perhaps be more muted. Overall, I’m very pleased with the value, but wish I had better options. The expectations game is very important here. If it wasn't for this trip’s availability, I would likely have passed on both sites, and that would have been a serious mistake. These were amazing places and I and very grateful I got to experience them.
The trip we did with Jorge was exceptional, his treatment and knowledge 10/10, it was like traveling with a friend because we talked a lot about everything, his love for CR also made the trip much better, really excellent
Excellent guide Ulysses! Super attentive, explained at good level of detail, very cuts. I went to celebrate my wedding anniversary with my husband, and it was a tour we liked a lot!! We highly recommend it! The grottos are impressive, and we had the opportunity to meet a small part of Taxco. We also went with two other girls and one spoke English and our guide Ulysses translated everything! Very attentive! 100% recommended
