Our family had a great experience on the tour! Yordi, our driver, and Ernesto, our tour guide, were both quite knowledgeable. Ernesto provided us with a candid and informed history of the museum and its exhibits. What a great experience!

Be sure to walk with comfortable shoes, it may seem like a small tour. However, walking outs pressure as you see everything and you may have to take breaks to relax.
Amazing time spent at the Anthropology museum. The digital guide in your preferred language is helpful since most of the signs are in Spanish (some have English translations). There is a decent restaurant on site (and cafe) in the event you get hungry and there are also vendors just outside the museum selling art/crafts/food as well as cultural performances.
We booked through Tripadvisor but the actual ticket was given to us by a company named Amigo Tours. This tour operator did a great job communicating with us via Whatsapp and then via their own app that we downloaded. Due to some issues with the museum administration, digital tickets could not be provided, so Amigo Tours let us know about 2 days in advance to collect tickets from their guide in front of a Starbucks near the museum. They sent us exact address for the Starbucks as well as a picture of the guide with a cap and shirt with logo. We took an Uber from the hotel to the museum which dropped us off a little farther. After using Apple maps, we were able to locate the Starbucks and found our guide waiting with the tickets. The tour operator also sent us a link to download the digital guide which was super helpful. The waiting line was not long for us (about 5 mins) to get into the museum. They do check bags at the entrance but it is a fast process. Once in the museum, we strolled through at our own pace through the exhibits. There are 7-8 doors to the exhibits. You can enter through any door, but to see the chronologic rise and fall of MesoAmerican cultures, we started from door 1 (nearest to the entrance and to the right of the large structure in the courtyard with water falling from it) and moved sequentially. The museum is a MUST SEE for anthropology and history lovers. It's collection of items is immense and demonstrates the rise and fall of pre-Hispanic civilizations in this land with clear categories. There are English translation for very few of the descriptors, which was disappointing. But nevertheless, the information stored in this place is immense. There are several streetside shops near the museum with an abundant supply of chips and sodas. There is also a restaurant inside the premises that had food from diverse regions of Mexico in their menu, although we ended up not eating there. Overall, this is a gret trip worth making. We took a leisurely pace to look at the exhibits and spent around 4 hours going through all of them.
I have been to the Anthropology Museum 5 times, and I am still only skimming the surface of its treasures. An extraordinary piece of architecture, housing a mind-blowing collection of pre-Columbian artefacts. A must-see for anyone wanting to learn about the rich and diverse heritage of Mexico.
This company promises a digital guide. There is no such thing, u are better off buying your tickets directly from ticket counter. All signs are in Spanish, without a guide you are just looking at very old pieces.
This option for tickets was so helpful to avoid lines. We went first thing in the morning, so there wasn’t much of a line anyway. But by the time we left the line was pretty intense. You get the tickets through the app and you can take screenshots. The museum worker didn’t second guess them at all. We walked past the line and went straight in. The big exhibits have English translations but not everything does so the guide was super helpful. The museum is HUGE so you really have to set aside time (3-4 hours) to get through everything
Was told by the museum staff that the tickets cannot be used as they no longer “have digital guide”.
Museum was wonderful and extensive, however we expected to receive audio guides and were disappointed. The continuity from one large room to another was also confusing, ie it was difficult to understand what was going on from one decade/century to another across the various cultures.
The Anthropology Museum is fabulous. But just get a ticket at the entrance. No need for advance tickets. And the digital guide is a waste of space.
Amazing artifacts and descriptions of the evolution of “mankind”. Visitors should allow plenty of time to experience the museum, if they can only visit once. Otherwise plan on returning more than one. It is well worth the visit(s).
Very well organised tickets for an excellent museum which was a highlight to Mexico but limited English explanations. Light filled and airy buildings with lots of areas to rest and a good restaurant. Highly recommended.
This is a review for the Amigo Tours / Viator (TripAdvisor) digital tour. Do yourself a favor and buy the tickets at the door. The two tickets they sold us were $56 (US), the tickets at the door are $6, so $12 for a couple. The digital tickets were extremely complicated/ broken links, etc. to access, and the digital was not accessible whatsoever. The app they made you download did not recognise my booking. The only advantage was not to stand in the ticket line for 5 mns, we still had to stand in the security line, of course. This qualifies as a ripoff! Fortunately, the museum installations were extraordinary and abundant. This is definitely a must-see. I only wish that I had read the reviews of this ticket provider before and saved $44.
Fantastic museum! The package we bought said it included an audio guide. It did not. The museum does not offer audio guides.
The digital component is not an audio and doesn’t really fit with the exhibits. I would let people know this or make an audio version.
Getting to download the tickets was extremely difficult. I am usually very good at dealing with internet issues. We were never able to access the digital assistant for the tour. The app didn’t recognize my booking. On top of that I got charged $45 US for the two tickets when actually the tickets (2) price at the door were $100 pesos each ($200 pesos) that is $11.76 USD. To me that qualifies for a scam. The museum itself was pretty much amazing. I only regret that we trusted this company that charged us over 3 times the tickets amount and were not even able to deliver their service. Stay away from them.
Make time to enjoy this place. I spent 4 hrs and we saved time by eating at the restaurant which as pretty good. I’m glad we used this app to get our tickets.
This experience was extremely disappointing. The digital guide was unhelpful and not worth the price. We were very unhappy with what we received.
This is a total ripoff. We arrived just before the museum opened at 9am on a Sunday. The only line then or when we left around noon is for a security screen that NOBODY can skip. There was no line at all to purchase tickets once we got inside. Furthermore, I was mislead thinking the tickets I’d added to my Apple Wallet were valid. They were not accepted at the entrance nor by the ticket office. The Get Tickets link I received by email was broken or sent me to sign into TripAdvisor again which I had trouble doing. To save time, I bought tix at the museum for only $12pp, less than half the cost. You might think it’s worth spending more for the “digital guide”, but it’s just a 37 page PDF that provides a nice overview of the museum. So this won’t save you time and the digital guide is not worth the extra $14USD you’ll pay. Don’t bother.
Remarkable collection and display of genealogy and development of indigenous culture in all its richness and variation. Breathtaking displays and exquisite and extensive examples and beautifully exhibited sculpture, paintings, video and recreations of stages of cultural development. A must see. But must devote at least a full day at very least. So much to experience. Quite amazing really.
Excellent exhibits and artifacts, I wish more of the exhibits and artifacts had more english translations. I highly recommend a tour guide as I did not, but feel it would have been slightly rushed with a guide. I spent 5 hours viewing everything, far longer than I had expected. I purchased the skip the line ticket, arrived at 10am and it wasn't very busy, shortly after that, the line up started to get longer.
Make sure you have google translate loaded, the vast majority of signs have no English translation. Getting there before the museum opened was key to a pleasant experience. It got super crowded. The restaurant in the museum was excellent.
The pdf guide was not worth it, very useless. I overheard some in person guides and that seemed much more helpful. The pdf did not provide much info. Relied on google translating the plaques as well as asking chat gpt questions
Buy your tickets directly from the museum. They charge more than the price of admission. We did not get the audio that the tickets said they came with.
A truly monumental museum. So much learned with only half seen (didn’t go upstairs after finishing bottom in 2.5 hours). Probably 5 hours to do the whole thing. Would have been better if we had a guide so I’d recommend that, vs going solo.
Spent an afternoon at the museum of anthropology. The museum is massive. Though crowded, it doesnt feel crowded because of its size. There is space to view take photos and walk around freely. Plan accordingly if you need to immerse yourself in all the history the museum holds as that would take at least a couple hours. The have a pdf guide but. Wish they had audio guides too. If you arent a spanish speaker plan on having your interpreter app as some exhibits do not have the english interpretation. Local guides are available if you can afford it. You get more context! Most of the main exhibits, however, do have spanish and english interpretive labels. Very cheap Must see!!
Mexico City is amazing, big, but amazing, people are very friendly and helpful, we went there for the Oasis concert and we had the best 4 days possible!
It was an absolutely amazing museum. It was one of the best museums I have ever been to. You could spend days inside!
Awesome and a Great museum with a lot of exhibits. Unfortunately not meant for non Spanish speaking visitors. Hardly any dual language description of the exhibits
It was incredible and also it is MASSIVE. Make sure you give yourself enough time and come well hydrated and fed. You want to see everything here.
Very interesting museum, lots of artifacts that brought the cultures to life. Plan at least 3-4 hours if you want to see everything.
We enjoyed our time at the anthropological museum! So much to see! There is a beautiful fountain that keeps the museum cool. The many artifacts of Mexican history and culture were an important thing to experience on our visit. Loved it!
Take your time!! We needed a wheelchair which came in very handy for our tour. My wife pushed so that made it even better when we visited our favorite Olmec section
I tried to pay extra for a tour guide but the agency Amigo Tours did not offer the service and at the Museum all the tour guides are on vacations, as per the information counter! The museum did not offer a audio guide, so we can’t enjoyed at 100% the museum
Beautiful and informative museum. If your'e short on time focus on the Teotihuacan and Mexica halls.
What a great experience! I’ve been to several museums across the US, and from a historical and cultural perspective this one was on top.
This museum is INCREDIBLE. The curation of each exhibit and the beautiful storytelling of the incredible culture - do not miss it!
The museum was beautiful, magnificent, and very informative!! My husband and I were very impressed and amazed with all the artifacts, paintings, and findings! We hope to return in the near future!
There were no lines to skip at 11 am on Tuesday and come to find out anyone over 60 is free anyway. It's a scam, at least in January! I should have read the reviews.
This was our first tour while in Mexico City and it was a fabulous introduction. We could have spent all day there! Beautiful well laid out exhibits.
Not allowed to skip line outside and inside line short. Friends paid $10 US while we paid &24 with Viator. We did not have tour so cannot comment on that.
Never got an actual ticket sent to me through viator. Email from viator says not actually a ticket. Got an email for an apple wallet that said ticket but museum didn’t accept that one with a bar code. Just ended up buying another ticket at the museum.
Extremely interesting overview of Mexicos history . Very well presented. Magnificent building Easy flow & accessibility to information boards
Beware! The so called "skip the line" tickets are not to skip the MAIN line, which cueues outside of the museum. In the morning this line moves, but in the afternoon it doesn't. This is the line that holds you back. Basically Amigo tours sold us museum tickets at the premium. If you can buy tickets directly from the web site, it is basically the same. Then Amigo Tours will not pick up the phone
Easy to book and to use. This Museum is as must see while in Mexico City. Take your time and afterwards stroll through the park. Arrive early to beat the crowds.
This museum is a must see. They have jaw dropping artifacts in every room. Don’t miss the courtyards, they have beautiful pieces as well. Plan for at least 2 hours and come early (especially on a weekend) to avoid crowds. You can pair it with Chapultepec Castle the same day as they are close by. Beware of insane Mexico City traffic and plan extra time for that.
The museum is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. It has both indoor and outdoor spaces to explore and learn from. The exhibits are well documented and it is easy to while away several hours reading about the history of Mexico and how several civilizations came and went.
Large collection - we appreciate our human heritage and culture after following the progression of our immigration and social improvement
Went late afternoon and museum wasn’t very crowded! Really well done, enjoyed lots of the exhibits- cannot do it all in one visit.
So much culture and history in this museum that it can be almost overwhelming. Best advice is to take the day exploring the different levels and areas of this museum and eat at the restaurant.
