Visit St George the Mandilas. Saint George was a Greek who became an officer in the Roman army. His father was the Greek Gerondios from Cappadocia Asia Minor and his mother was the Greek Polychronia from the city Lyda. Lyda was a Greek city from the times of the conquest of Alexander the Great (333 BC), now in Israel. He became an officer in the Roman army in the Guard of Diocletian. He is venerated as a Christian martyr. There are many different customs around Greece honouring Saint George’s memory, but only one that we know of involve colourful head scarfs, climbing and dancing on the cliffs very edge all at the same time. It takes place on an old ruined monastery dedicated to Saint that was built inside a cave some 40 meters above ground on the north side of a Meteora rock.
Our tour guide Maria told us a lot of background information on the origin of Meteora in very good English. She responded to all our questions we had in a very pleasant manner. Our driver Kostas was very pleasant and drove calmly.
It is a long day. Well planned though. We left Athens at 8:00 am. Four hours drive to Kalambaka. Christina was our tour guide. She is great! Full of knowledge. Funny, helpful, making it an enjoyable tour for you. Highly recommend
We had a beautiful morning seeing the Meteora area and monasteries with our guide Thanos. He explained all of the history and significance of each monastery. We had stops for photos throughout the area, and he navigated the crowds and traffic with ease. I am so glad we booked this tour as we only had a short time in Kalambaka and felt we didn’t miss anything. Thanos gave us excellent recommendations for lunch and halva after the tour.
The tour was better than I expected! Joanna is super nice and a very knowledgeable tour guide—she showed me around and shared a lot of interesting information. Nikos, the driver, was very professional and navigated the extremely crowded roads with patience and calmness. Both have a great sense of humor! I don’t even know what I liked most—their company or Meteora! Highly recommend!
I am still in awe. Early in the morning I was picked up at the hotel I stayed. I met the wonderful driver Nikos and wonderful tourguide Ioanna. Together with the three of us we went up the mountain. Truly amazing sights. Nikos grew up in Kalambaka so he knows the best stops, and Ioanna can tell you all sorts of information regarding the Meteora as she is an archeologist herself as well. I'm still in awe of the amazing tour. The sights, the sweet friendly connection with them, truly amazing! If you consider going, I would definitely recommend an early tour as there will be not many people there. I even had a moment to myself on the rocks with the sunrise. Therefore I was extra surprised how busy it got, just a couple hours later when the monasteries were open and I went up again to actually go inside. I am Greek and I have visited Meteora many times in my life! I always enjoy going there. For our wedding my husband and I decided to take our friends and family on a group trip and this tour company was AMAZING! I am so happy we booked with Meteora Tour. We did the morning tour and one of our groups was late to the tour, and the tour guide (Ioanna) was SO kind and waited for all of us to arrive. Ioanna was VERY knowledgeable about the history of the region and we absolutely loved her and the bus driver (Stathis)! One of the best experiences I have ever had with a tour company. At the end of the tour they even provided ice cold waters for us (we were so greatful for this in the mid-august heat)!! I am so thankful to them for helping create such a wonderful memory of my wedding week. Thank you so much!!
We booked an afternoon tour in Feb 24 and were surprised that only 4 of us were on the tour, so its like a private tour for our family. Our guide (Joanna) and our driver (Kostas) - I hope I get the names correctly, were so lovely and attentive. Joanna was so nice to talk to and provided us very informative and interesting details. Kostas stopped at all nice spots for photos and even walked out of the car and looked out for passing cars while we took photos. The tour was amazing, landscape and monateries are so beautiful and out of this world. We enjoyed the tour so much. Thank you again Joanna and Kostas!

Best tour ever!!! Eleni made our visit unforgettable. We couldn't have done it by ourselves or with a larger tour group. She explained everything in great detail in a very amusing way. Showed everything worth seeing and stopped at the best points to take pictures. All the best also for the driver (Athanasios).
We pretty much enjoy it because our tour guide Maria & driver Dina are very sweet and professional. We can feel they really try to do their best to make sure we have a very great time there and we do. We also ask the company to pick us up the next day from the hotel to the train station quite early. They take care of it and the driver Nikos is so friendly and nice as well. In a word, this company provides really excellent service and I do enjoy my stay in Meteora. Good job and thank you, Meteora-tour.
It was perfect, from the punctual pick-up to the information provided by an amazing guide (Christina if I remember correctly), with so many stops at wonderful sites and excellent pacing regarding the climbs. It was a very hot day, but the way the tour was run it was not difficult to mount monastery chosen, and the whole trip was an unforgetable experience. The guide was an incredible source of so many informations that this made Meteora even more impressive. Special thanks to the guys in the head office who sorted out my problem with online booking, really appreciate that!
Excellent :-)))) Helped us a lot. We called the office on the day of the tour Apr.24, 2022, the busiest day of the year (Orthodox Easter), and asked to take a tour of the monasteries after another company canceled our participation a night before although their tour took place. Meteora Tour sent us a car, a driver, and a guide for the two of us to visit the monasteries and the panoramic views. Apart from being the most astonishing place in Hellas, the tour was a compensation for all we went through. Our Guide, Vasso was excellent. She was very kind, understanding, sensitive, and knowledgeable. Our driver was excellent as well. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND Meteora Tours :-)))
We met the tour guide and the van at Kalambaka train station. The tour was started around noon and lasted about 4.5 hours. We were so glad to join the tour. Christina and the driver was so nice, very passionate about what they were doing, and gave us lots of info about Meteora. We could not be happier to joined this tour, and learn so much about one of the most magical place that we ever visited. Thank you for a great tour, will recommend it to everyone in a heartbeat!!!

Meteora Tours. Make sure you choose these, they are similar in name. Via: meteora-tour.gr booked. A morning tour with Ioanna and Tanos in their bus. Starts at 08:30 and we are picked up from our hotel, super. It is not crowded and therefore our tour is smooth with one extra monastery that we are allowed to visit. That's a lot of climbing stairs, but it's definitely worth it. Meteora Tours provides a lot of information and the ride is controlled. Great value for money. Recommended!
An unforgettable morning experience at Meteora with the best team! Our morning family tour of Meteora exceeded all expectations! It was a unique experience, rich in images, knowledge and feelings, thanks to the exceptional people who welcomed us with joy and accompanied us: Mr. Spiro, our guide, Mrs. Ioanna and Mrs. Dina who helped Mr. Spiro in driving. From the first moment you felt like you were in the best hands. Mr. Spyros with his kind smile and the absolutely safe driving made every move comfortable and relaxed, receiving but also delivering us to the point we agreed from the beginning, making us incredibly easy! The conversations endless, especially pleasant personality, that in the end we discovered common acquaintances although we live in different countries! However, Ioanna was the soul of the tour. Her knowledge of the history, spirituality and architecture of Meteora, combined with the lively and human way of telling, deeply touched us. He transported us to other times, helped us to see the monasteries not simply as monuments, but as living places of prayer, labor and faith. Her love for the country and its culture was evident in every word. We admired the wonderful approach he had depending on who he addressed (adult or child). The excursion was extremely organized, with comfortable breaks, impressive points of view and contact with the invisible sides of Meteora, but also the surrounding area. The team had taken care of every detail, allowing us to devote ourselves to simply enjoying. They were always willing to answer all our questions and offer us a warm and friendly atmosphere! We opted for a private tour of Meteora as we had very little time. The boss Nikos was very accommodating and was able to schedule us a visit despite the high demand (August 15) and the fact that the reservation was made at the last moment! The driver of the minibus was very careful in his driving. The guide, Heleni, was able to give us perfect explanations throughout the tour and showed us the magnificent viewpoints for photos! Really recommended
