The driver was brilliant; he really knew every bend, and it felt safe to be in the car. The guide has obviously been doing this job for too long, as he didn’t remember to speak slowly and calmly – he spoke as quickly as possible; it felt as though he just wanted to get his points across quickly and be rid of the group and the whole day as soon as possible. The communication from the company beforehand was excellent – many thanks for that! The pick-up from the hotel went exactly as agreed. The only thing we weren’t told in advance – and which would be extremely important for everyone to know – is that during the day, the only toilets are in the monasteries, which means you have to climb a great many stairs just to get to the loo.

Itinerary
Join this morning sightseeing tour to Meteora and fully experience this true wonder accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide. The tour starts with a convenient pick-up (with our VIP minibus) from your hotel in Kalabaka or Kastraki. During this guided tour you will have the opportunity to see all six magnificent monasteries and admire the interior of three of them. Additionally, view some of Meteora’s most spectacular hidden gems like the ancient Chapel of Doupiani and the magnificent St. George “Mandilas” cave. You will also discover the “other side” of Meteora, like the truth about why the hermits settled in these imposing caves a thousand years ago and how the monks achieved the “impossible”. If English isn’t your primary language, don’t worry! We offer free audio guides in Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Chinese & Korean. Last but not least, take the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views and capture some amazing photos that you will cherish forever.
At the bottom of the Holy Meteora Rocks and not far from Kalambaka is located Kastraki (translated as small castle in Greek). This picturesque village took its name from a small Byzantine castle, whose ruins are still saved today.
The Monastery of Saint Nicholas of Anapafsas is literally suspended in air on a small rock and is the first monastery that we meet on our way from Kastraki village to the stone forest of Holy Meteora.
The Roussanou Monastery, also known as Arsani, stands on top of an impressive vertical and steep cliff of Meteora, between the Monasteries of Saint Nicholas Anapafsas and Varlaam.
The Monastery of Great Meteoron or Transfiguration of Christ, expresses the greatness and history of the Holy Meteora, as it is the oldest and most important monastery.
The Varlaam Monastery or Monastery of All the Saints is located on an imposing rock exactly opposite of the Great Meteoron and it is the second largest monastery of Meteora.
The Monastery of the Holy Trinity is the third oldest monastery in Meteora and is the most difficult to reach, since visitors should cross a downhill path and then ascend 145 steps carved into the rock. It is said that the first hermits used a rope ladder and a net to build it and they spent 70 years to carry the all the materials needed.
The Monastery of Saint Stephen’s (Agios Stefanos) is located just above the city of Kalambaka and is the most accessible monastery in Meteora, as there are no steps to reach the entrance and the access is easy through a small stone bridge.

I would like to compliment you on the excellent service and your guide Yannis who explained exactly the timetable and what to expect at each monastery site. We had a great morning visiting the beautiful monasteries. Marion
Nice trip to experience the monasteries. However the whole hill is very crowded
Excellent tour to 3 monasteries and being on the tour helped to avoid massive parking issues. Was crowded at two of the monasteries but the guide did a great job helping to navigate it all.
Vasili was an amazing guide i learnt alot from this trip the monestaries and all ! He was never in a rush to answer my questions and always had a nice big smile thank you for the great experience .
Amazing day, very organised from pick up to timings in each location and drop off, it felt good and did not feel rushed. I would definitely recommend the trip the Meteora views are just 'wow' could not take my eyes off of the monasteries and beautiful sandstone pillars. You had to pay 5 euro cash in each monastery, so you need 15euro in total, but it worth to see and a must for you to do while there. The tour guide 'Yannis' was great and shared all the history but in a fun way!
This was an excellent experience! The mini bus was comfortable and with good A/C. We received plenty of information about the monasteries and the surrounding area. There were even stops at various viewpoints in order to take photos. Both our driver and our guide were fantastic!
Very friendly and professional guide who had a vast knowledge of the history and geography. Highly recommended Janus as a guide
Our tour guide told us a lot of interesting things about the Meteoras and the monasteries. He created a great atmosphere on the bus during the ride. The bus was clean and comfortable.
Great trip, informative, punctual and gave us everything we expected! Highly recommend to anyone with limited time - you will see the best of the monasteries.
This is a great tour. The guide is very informative and provided information during all the time we were on the bus between locations. The monasteries are beautiful. They generally provide enough time to visit them, however we wished we could have had about 10 more minutes at Valaam since it is very beautiful on the outside. This tour is very much worth the money to avoid the stress of parking and get a lot of information about the history and area. Since we were not staying in the main towns we did have to meet them at the old train station, but that was fine as there is plenty of parking there.
Fabulous experience. Our guide was polite, funny, informative and easy to understand (we are Americans). The trip was just the right length of time. They picked us up on time and even offered to drop us off anywhere on the way back, or at our hotel. I wish I remembered our guide and driver’s names. They were great! Cannot recommend either more highly!
Excellent communication before and after the tour. Punctual. Informative and friendly guide. We were lucky to be in a small group van. Our guide was knowledgeable and gave us plenty of time to explore the monasteries which you did on your own. Beat the crowds! A super tour. Highly recommended especially with a historian guide.
Nikos was an awesome tour guide and Giorgos made us feel very safe with his driving skills . It has been a wonderful experience .
Meteora is a fabulous place to visit, with tremendous cultural and geographical wonders. On our tour, we visited 3 monasteries. Our guide and driver were very helpful. A word of caution for travelers with physical challenges such as bad knees or hips--you have to climbs a LOT of stairs and walk some distance up hills to visit some of the monasteries. Plan your visit accordingly!
Dress appropriately, wear closed and supportive shoes, enjoy! You will see the interior of 3 monasteries and the other 3 from the exterior.
Absolutely awesome! Incredible scenery, breathtaking beauty! Wonderful guide and driver provided information about the monasteries without overdoing it. Well organized tour, good communication emails with organizers on meeting point, dress code, etc
We were running a little late for our tour. I would like to thank Georgia in the Kalamata office for being so incredibly helpful in booking us a taxi, to ensuring we met up with our guide at the right place, as quickly as possible. Our Guide Costas was excellent, we loved Meteora!
We had a great time on our tour with Yurgos as our guide. The explanations and the stories were so interesting! Everything was very pleasant and professional- we definitely enjoyed our time and recommend doing this tour with them.
A good tour of the area and three Monasteries.
A trip not to be missed. We got rid of the parking problem and received a lot of information about the impressive history of the area. The professionalism and kindness of the guide Vasilis and the driver Yorgos were remarkable. I recommend.
I signed up for this trip that promised a small group tour of the monasteries in a private luxury van. Instead the company showed up with an 80 person mega bus with no prior warning. I would not have signed up for such a tour. Having so many people ruined the experience and there was no opportunity to ask questions with the tour guide—he was just too busy herding us all on and off the bus. Additionally we sat around forever waiting for everyone to be accounted for. I contacted the tour operator 2 times to request a refund and they will not respond.
Vasily as our tour guide and George as our bus driver were great and managed efficiently a very large group of 50 people on this Meteora tour on a rainy day. Vasily shared history of the region, monks, rocks, how monks took help of local and found way to climb up etc. We visited 3 monasteries from inside and got enough time to enjoy each of them. Rest 3 we saw from outside. He gave us clear timeline on when to return and made sure no one is left behind. He showed lots of patience and integrity when few people were late almost at all stops 😊 Very informative and interesting tour, highly recommended.
it was a nice small group tour in a mini van. The tour guide was good. The monasteries are beautiful and awe inspiring
The tour was very detailed and had lots of opportunities to see different monastaries from the outside and go inside 3. Depending on the day will possibly depend on which you go in as they each close on different days. We got to see Great Meteora, Varlaam and St Nicholas. We stopped at different vantage points along the way too. Our guide Vasili was very knowledgeable and could answer so many of our questions after each stop.
Reliable convenient tour. Hotel pickup was very convenient. Parking at the monasteries with our own car would have been difficult and this solved that problem. The guide on the bus was informative and helpful. Enough time was given at each stop to see the monasteries.
This was the perfect tour for us. We are older, and we were able to manage everything just fine. We had the perfect combination of photo ops and full exploration of three of the monasteries. Truly, a once-in-a lifetime experience!
It was absolutely amazing. The guide , George, was very knowledgeable about the area. The monasteries were breathtaking! Highly recommend this tour.
The tour was very organized, informative and convenient. It’s a lot of stairs but totally worth it. The monasteries also provide wraps for women to tie over pants.
Our guide went above and beyond
I had a wonderful experience in Meteora… the monasteries and the scenery were beautiful and the tour was very well organized and stress free thanks to a great guide and driver!
The monestaries are absolutely stunning. Be prepared to go up and down a ton of stairs. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and friendly. Totally worth paying for the guided experience.
Informative but not too much information, perfect length but saw everything necessary. Great guide and driver.
A once in a lifetime experience. The pickup was punctual and seamless. The guide was knowledgeable, interesting and accommodating. We visited 3 monasteries at a leisurely pace and stopped several times for breath taking photo opportunities. Definitely worth every cent and something not to be missed.
The tour was very good, I can totally recommend it. It was raining on the day and quite foggy, but we still had a great experience. Definitely worth joining this tour.
Nice experience , very informative , kind and helpful guide, value for money. We saw three monasteries and a few view points.
Great morning excursion. Very knowledgeable guide and well planed itinerary. Lot easier to take a tour than to visit by car.
It was the most beautiful experience. The scenery was stunning and the monasteries were worth the climb
We had a very pleasant tour with Vasilis who was explaining during the trip. He was very attentive and directly recognized everybody of the group. His explanaition of the area was interesting and he knew where they had to stop for the best views as well to seek quick alternatives in case the best was occupied. The views were amazing, even that we were during "low"season it was still crowded.
Our guide was great explaining the history of the monasteries of Meteora and sites. At each stop, we could explore the buildings and museum on our own. It was obvious that a mini van was the way to visit the area. Parking for cars was almost non-existent.
Our tour guide and driver were fantastic! Such great information and so easy for us to visit the monasteries without having to worry about driving or parking.
Great experience with George and Nicolas. They were friendly and knowledgeable and shared their Greek life experience. Pick-up and drop- off at our hotel was a bonus. Would highly recommend this tour.
Perfect introduction to the wonders of the monasteries, pick up on time and Nicolas was informative and enthusiastic
Everything was well organized. They picked us in front if the accommodation as agreed. The guide Themis is very knowledgeable and unobtrusive. We could really ask anything we were interested in. It was Four hours guided Tour. We received information before entering the three monasteries which we toured inside if we wished for the admission fee of 5€. It was unforgettable experience.
The guide and driver were very good. The mini bus was comfortable. The trip did not feel rushed despite there being many other tours there.
Kind and personable, Nikolas was very knowledgeable! Highly recommend this tour if you want time to explore and enjoy being in a small group.
Very nice experience! The guide was very professional. He followed us with attention and sympathy. I really appreciated the monasteries we visited and the time we were given to visit them. The driver was also very good!
Fantastic tour. Trust me- you do not want to try to visit the Meteora without a tour guide. Meteora gets packed and there are zero places to park and the driving can be dangerous. Our tour bus picked us up at our Air BnB. We learned the history behind Meteora and each Monastery. We did not feel rushed and all. Highly recommend.
Fantastic day. Brilliant guide (Maria) who was very knowledgeable about the area and monastries. Tiring but well worth the trip. Thankyou
Well organised and punctual. We visited 3 monasteries . The time was more than enough for site seeing, taking pictures and buying souvenirs.
