Our guide, giannis, was extremely knowledgeable and since he had a background in archeology, history, and geology he provided a great deal of information about the formation of the Rocks as well as the history of the monasteries. He spoke at a great pace, provided us a lot of details about everything we were seeing, and injected some humor at points too. I would highly recommend this tour and this tour guide for anyone who really wants to see and tour three of the six monasteries
Good tour giving some history of the area. Be aware that each monastery requires an additional 5 euros/pp to enter and the guide stays outside on the bus. Lots of dialogue between stops but nothing inside.
Although weather was rainy we had a great tour. The pickup was punctual from the hotel. The monasteries were amazing
Beautiful time of day for taking pictures. Lots of stairs to visit the monasteries but very doable if you just take your time. Lots of photo stops.
So glad we booked this trip! Great value for money, excellent tour guide with fantastic local knowledge, and the small group meant we could jump on and off the bus for some quick viewpoint stops to capture all 6 monasteries as well as going inside 3 of them. Highly recommend.
The monasteries are absolutely amazing, and we had a fantastic time on the morning tour. It was very well organised, we had plenty of time at each stop, and our guide Maria was super friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend Meteora Thrones for your tour.
Fabulous morning visiting 3 monasteries and stopping to photographing a few more. Amazing place and Lina (guide) was really good. One of the best guides I’ve come across. Very knowledgeable and kind. Highly recommended
This tour was approximately 5 hours and was absolutely worth every single minute spent! It is a bit strenuous going up to each of the monasteries we visited (a ton of steps and steep hills) but again worth every bit of effort! Spectacular frescos in each of the churches. Bring cash for souveniers and nominal entrance fees for each (5 euros each to enter) as they don’t take cards for payment. Kostas, our guide was amazing with rich knowledge and extreme care for all of those in our group. Georges was a phenomenal driver and kept us safe! 🥰🇬🇷 Thank you for a wonderful day! ❤️
9am pick up near accommodation Visited 6 monasteries with 3 tours. The guide was a very knowledgeable local. A very hot day and they supplied water. A solid 4 hrs
This was a decent tour but could have been much better. Despite calling it a small group tour, we were on a coach of about 50 people. The stops at a couple of the monasteries were not quite long enough to allow people who arent capable of running up the steps at top speed. The guide talked while we were on the bus, but focused more on the Greek guests sitting near the front with him. If I went again, I would look for a smaller group tour. But overall, it was good value.
Well worth the money with really interesting information by Iaonnis the guide on the coach. We're left to visit three monasteries as we please within generous times. Felt very relaxed
Great informative tour of this amazing place! Our guide Nicholas was knowledgeable and very pleasant. We enjoyed the experience and highly recommend it!
It is advertised as a small tour but it was a very large bus. There was not a lot of information shared. I was disappointed.
It’s exactly what I signed up for. It was nice that we didn’t need to worry about driving and parking. The bus picked us up from the hotel and dropped us off at each monastery.
Our experience was average overall, but the Meteora Domes guide did not lead it. It was combined into a large group in a bus instead of the advertised small group in a van.
I hesitate to write this review because this is such a special place and it would be a shame if it gets overrun by the influencer crowd…..but it was the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen anywhere I’ve ever travelled. The tour itself was extremely well run, the guide Nicholas was so knowledgeable and seemed to have a genuine connection with this special place. Do this tour, but please respect this place and the people who are connecting to it.
Visited 3 of the Monasteries but saw and learned about all 6 on this well done 4 hr morning tour. We were given enough time to visit each one and Aphrodite gave good history of the area while we were in the van traveling between sights.
Bill was outstanding and delivered a great deal of information. His knowledge and passion surrounding the history of the monasteries was impressive! Made the tour an enjoyable experience for all three of us.
Excellent morning trip with knowledgable guide and experienced driver. Plenty of opportunities for photos on the many stops, plus enough time at 3 of the 6 monasteries to take a leisurely look around and more photos of the nearby monasteries in this stunning place. We had a car but joining this trip allowed us a stress-free first morning in the area and the chance to check out where we wanted to return to independently. Even in low season some of the monasteries were very busy and car parking could have proved tricky, so we were glad to be scooped up from our hotel and then dropped off/picked up close to the entrances. The 4 hours was used very well, lots was packed In but never felt rushed. Thank you.
Very good and well organized tour with lovely guide Yannis. Thank You. The weather was not the best possible. But what can we do.
Our tour started at 8:40 with pick-up at our hotel. I was surprised to see that the minibus used for the tour was actually a larger vehicle with 20 - 30 seats. It filled up during the next 40 minutes, when the bus cruised through narrow streets in downtown Kalabaka, no easy feat for the careful driver who had to navigate narrow roads and many obstacles. In my opinion, meeting up at a central place would have been much more efficient (yet the tour operators allow you to be picked up at your hotel). After all passengers were collected, the tour started to get exciting. Our guide had numerous explanations, background information, and historical data on the sites we were going to visit. She was very good and clear with her explanations and she also clearly explained when we were expected to be back at the bus after each stop. This is when it was clear that this was the way to visit the monasteries rather than just driving up with your own car (which you can). We had between 40 and 50 minutes at each of the visited monasteries. This was not enough time to closely peruse the museums offered in each monastery, but enough time to get a good impression and take photos. I would opt for a smaller group next time, if I had the choice.
We had a great small group tour of Meteora. We had enough time to see inside 3 monasteries and 3 outside with stopping for photos at various view points. Vaso our guide was excellent in giving the history of The Holy Monasteries and Erick our friendly great safe driver we had a wonderful time !
A wonderful experience with a very friendly guide. The bus was by far the best way to travel without any driving problems.
A great way to see the Monasteries with so much information provided by Maria that we would not know trying to do this on our own.
Was a very pleasant tour. The guide and driver were excellent, knowledgable. I was lucky that it was also a very nice day. There were a lot of steps to climb up and down and on a hot day very perspiring. They do tell you to wear appropriate clothing, however the monasteries seem to provide appropriate covering if you are not. The only problems were with the long queues at the entrance which combined with having only 1 hr at each (which would most possibly be enough if you took away the time queuing and climbing up and down the steps), and the amount time taken to climb the steps could leave too little time to properly look around for those that are less fit, also there was the problem of other tour groups with guides getting in the way and blocking the way through. The tour was only to sightsee all the monasteries and actually visit 3of them. There was the extra charge of €5 entrance to each monastery too which was made clear on the Booking. When you search on the internet it seems that the only way you can see the monasteries is by going on one of these bus tours which is not true as you can go to each one by yourself. But, it is still good to use this guide service for a first visit and I think is good value at €25, especially with being picked up at Hotel/Campsite and then offered the option on the return to being dropped off from where you were picked up or the town centre.
The transport was good and avoided us having to park our car. The guide was interesting in the bus. The guide does not go into the monasteries with you. The monasteries are very crowded with many huge buses. Their guides blocked the entrances to parts of the monasteries as they told their story. Not the fault of our tour. We did not go into the last monastery as they are all very similar and cost 5 Euro per person to enter.
We were picked up from our hotel and on time. The bus was comfortable and clean with good air conditioning. Saki drove us right to the start of each of the 3 monasteries we stopped at and he manoeuvred the bus well and with care in lots of mountain traffic. He always found us after we had negotiated the stairs and crowds too. Aphrodite speaks English Greek and Italian so accommodated all of us so well. As advertised, there was no live commentary in the monasteries but on the bus, Aphrodite told us interesting facts about each monastery and the area. There is a guide on YouTube if you want more but seriously, we didn’t. These sacred spaces and the people who built them come through loud and clear. A brilliant day. We loved it
I’m not a tour person per se, but visiting the Meteora monasteries was a must, and Vaso and our driver (whose name I can’t spell) were lovely. Vaso was knowledgeable and I learned a lot about accessing the monasteries in the early days (IMO horrifying). Varlaam was super crowded with aggressive tour groups that flooded some of the main points of interest, but the museum is spectacular and I want to spend more time there (and don’t miss the video—!)
Tour guide Maria very good and informative.Monatories visited included monks who one could chat to Lunch provided very Greek and delicious
The view from the monasteries was breathtaking. The guide shared interesting information about the monasteries which were an incredible experience to see. However, we expected the guide to come with us inside the monasteries and tell us about the art, architecture and other historical facts.
What a fun and enjoyable way to explore the wonders of Meteora and the monasteries. The driver was exceptional at navigating the difficult driving conditions. Yannis, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend this tour for a stress-free way to go around Meteora and get some local knowledge as well.
Lovely experience, beautiful monasteries very knowledgeable tour guide. The only thing I would suggest is maybe having a little bit more time at the monasteries to take it all in and reflect otherwise I would definitely recommend it to family and friends.
Fantastic tour, our guide Nancy was so knowledgeable and answered all our questions, Chris was a great driver. Many stops for photos and plenty of time at 3 monasteries. There is a lot of steps to and from the monasteries, probably not great for those with mobility issues
This is a great way to see inside three monasteries, experience different exterior views of six monasteries and the dramatic scenery. Nancy did an excellent job explaining the history of the monasteries and the geology that created their perches above the plain.
Perfect tour of the breathtaking Meteora monasteries! Our guide was outstanding—blending history, insights, and humor in just the right way. Pickup from our hotel by shuttle was seamless, and both the guide and driver knew all the best photo stops. We visited three monasteries (plenty to get the full experience) and viewed the other three from the road. Be prepared for some stair climbing—it’s winding but manageable, and absolutely worth it for the views. Our group included all ages, and everyone was able to handle it. Important tips: entry requires a small fee (bring Euros), women must wear a skirt or use a scarf as a wrap, men need long pants, and no sleeveless shirts are allowed.
This tour saved us the stress of figuring out which monasteries were open and when, as well as navigating the narrow, winding roads with an unusually high volume of traffic. It felt so much safer and more relaxed letting the professionals take care of everything. Alex kept the group’s energy up with her passion and knowledge, while Costas was welcoming, reliable, and made us feel completely at ease. We were happy just to be in the moment and enjoy the experience.
Easy pick up at my hotel. Driver and guide were excellent in sharing knowledge and very friendly. The tour of the monasteries was complete including 3 i side visits. Four hours was perfect time. Morning made the heat easier to deal with walking. Amazing sights!
First of all the tour was well worth it. The monasteries were beautiful, and the landscape was unique to this area. Come prepared to walk. Alexandra was an excellent guide. Her English was perfect and easy to understand. She also spoke several other languages and was able to communicate with everyone on the tour. Anyone who has spent any time in Greece, knows that driving here is crazy. Tassos was an excellent driver. I felt completely safe with him driving the very comfortable van.
Great tour, very insightful, and the guides were super helpful in organising and helping us with our bikes! 10/10 :))))
Very well organised and great guide! Was well worth it for not only the information provided by our guide but especially for the logistics of moving from one monestary to another. Very busy area so could get complicated to get around by car and parking. With this tour they picked us up in the morning and dropped us off directly at the entrance of each site we visited. Great experience.
More like a taxi rather than a local guide. I could be just take the car. The guide told us a few words about the place and the monasteries but very poor. A few years ago I ve been there with the same agency and it was awesome...the guide took us everywhere and he was like an open book.
What an experience it was with meteora thrones Everything was amazing. From the pick up of the hotel to the drop off, the tour bus that fits 20 people was wait conditioned and very comfortable . Our guide Alexandra and driver Costa were very welcoming and fun to be around. Alexandra is very knowledgeable of the area and she explains the significance of the rocks and meteora in general. They made the experience memorable and don’t hesitate to book your meteora tour with meteora thrones. If possible try to get Alexandra and Costa. What a team. Overall great job and keep up the good work Timotheos from Montreal
Kind and authentic tour guides, comfortable tour bus, and wonderful rhythm to the tour. Vasiliki and Tsakis helped to make a summer day visiting the Meteora monasteries a joy. Both children and adults had a great time.
Terrific tour (fantastic views and venues) and exceptional tour guide (Nancy)…just beware, lots of walking up and down steep inclines/declines and stairs.
The view was to die for! Honestly tour guide and driver were really amazing with so much positive energy and knowledge of everything that we saw! All recommendations!
Very happy with the tours. And I am a person that I don't do tours because I don't like them and I like to feel free. But with Meteora thrones I felt totally comfortable. We did two tours: sunset tour and half day tour to visit monasteries. Our driver was very professional and our guide was really kind and she knows a lot about Meteora and told us really interesting things about the history of the place. She helped us a lot with all the things that I needed because my mother cannot move really well and she helped us in every moment and situation. We felt really comfortable. Very professional because she is very interesting that everybody feels comfortable and happy. Totally recomended. Thanks a lot for everything :)
This is a great way to get a sense of the various monasteries! It does move quickly, so if you have a couple of days, I would suggest getting an overview with this tour, then going back alone to your favorite site to spend more time if you can. I would to have loved to have more time at each of the monasteries!
The views were amazing. The guide was great. We had plenty of time to visit the 3 monasteris. Well recommended. Pick up from our hotel was on time
I can really recommend this tour. The guide Yiannis and our buss driver Kostas made the tour truly rememberable and showed us some of the most beautiful places and photostops. Five stars.
