We actually did the climbing experience with Christos. God bless we’ll never forget. Also everyone at the office - so super polite and good hearted. Thank you so much guys
Very well organised with tour guides that have a lot of knowledge about Meteora. Our tour guides Nancy and Yanis were wonderful and professional. I would recommend this tour to everyone wanting to do a bit more then just drive to monastery to monastery.
We chose the hiking tour with Vaso who was great. Stefan picked up from our hotel on time, drove us up to the Varlaam monastery where we spent some time, the best one I think, and then we walked DOWN to Kalambaka with Vaso as our guide through the mountains seeing so many things including another monastery you would not see from a road tour and unique rock formations. It was tranquil, informative and an easy walk. By far the best thing we did while in Meteora. Even if you are not a hiker, this walk is an easy downhill 2-3 hours. Give it a go.
The hike was very well organized and the landscapes are wonderful. Ianis was a very good guide and I recommend the tour! :)
Vasiliki was such a friendly & helpful guide! It was so nice to take a hike around the area without having to worry about getting lost. The views were great and there was still plenty of shade!
We selcted the 4 hours Hiking Meteora Tour and we really enjoyed. We first visited Varlaam monastery and then a small group of 7 persons we enjoyed Hikking Meteora. The young lady, our guide, was very kind and explained with many details the history of monasteries. We had time for photos and generally it was very nice experience. I strongly recommend it .
Exceptional experience with a professional guide. Yanis was extremely professional and was very interesting to listen. Huge thank for him. Our family spent great time and we will bring a lot of memoriers
Gianni, the tour guide was quite informative throughout the tour, gave us a bit of history of the Monastries . The hike was a relaxed one (I have been on a few hikes, so basically a beginner) most of it was down hill, there was a bit of uphill but not a lot. Most of the trail didn't seem very steep.
We did a morning hiking and monastery tour with Yanis (John) for 3 1/2 hrs on 4 November. We first went to the Varlaam monastery, which was amazing. Then Yanis escorted us on our hike. We were very well taken care of with Yanis very knowledgeable about the Meteora area and the monastery. We got to see a different side of Meteora whilst hiking - some amazing abandoned monasteries and rock formations. We loved it. Thanks Yanis.
Best guide ever, Maria welcomed us with a smile. In the morning the trip from Athens was long but the driver was nice enough to advise the WiFi password and entertained us with radio music. Arriving to restaurant for lunch, Maria was there to welcome and greet us. The trip was fabolous and very informative. However, back to where the trip began, disappointingly we had to change buses and driver did not say a word instead spend some time on the phone which was unprofessional as outside was very windy and bus was full. Luckily the WiFi password was the same to connect. Maria, you are the best!!!
Nice one optio to see Meteora from Monostery and also do some Hike with guide. Our’s was Andrej. Kind and polite guide’s. Nice pick up from Hotel. Super cool, new and comfortable Mercedes. Views, Views, Views!!!!
What can I say about Clement and Niko? No words would be enough to describe the wonderful time we had yesterday visiting the wonder that is Meteora! Clement’s vast knowledge of the history of the area, as well as the monasteries, was second only to his friendly energy and contagious enthusiasm! Two thumbs up, high five and ten out of ten is my grade for Clement! An amazing tour guide! Some recommendations for participants: wear comfortable shoes, ladies don’t forget to wear a long skirt/dress and have something to cover your shoulders, if you’re wearing something sleeveless. Otherwise, the nuns or someone at the monastery will give you a cover up. This is an excursion well worth the long drive and I would definitely do it again!
The tourguide was a young man whose knowledge was pretty good about the history of monasteries but sometimes it was hard to understand him due to heavy accent. Besides there were people on the tour whose fitness was questionable and were slowing the progress of the hike. Maybe the agency should specify better that the track is not as easy to master as they advertised it is. At certain points this group of middle aged women challenged my patience and I suggested to them that they shouldn't have thought twice before they emarked on that tour. However the nature was really exquisite and monateries were worthed the hike.
We had a lovely day with Chris taking us on a hike up to Great Meteora. There were just 3 of us, and rain was predicted, however, it turned into a lovely and fabulous day. We traced the original walking path of the Monks, learning about the history of the moneltaries and the general history of the area. Along the way, we saw some of the original “caves” the monks lived in as well a smaller monestary that was refurbished and open to the public only one day per year. Chris was extremely well versed in the history, and was extremely careful that we were safe and comfortable during our walk. We took two hours to reach Great Meteora as we stopped for photos, to listen to pertinent information, etc. What a great morning we had, and can’t say enough good things about Chris! Thank you Chris for a walk through nature and time!!!!!
Amazing and unforgetable experience. The views are truly spectacular and it was made more interesting through the information from our local tour guide.
Perfect tour exploring the natural world around the monasteries. Chris was a knowledgeable and conscientious guide.
First things first: Meteora is absolutely stunning any way you look at it, and you can't really go wrong. But while any bus or car can take you to vantage points to spot the monasteries, there's nothing like a good old-fashioned hike through forest trails across streams, rocks, and trees. There's no instant gratification here, but as you slowly gain altitude, the sheer brilliance of Meteora slowly reveals itself, a far more rewarding experience than simply taking a bus. A guide can make or break your trek, and Christos was the best hiking buddy we could get. A local from the area, he knows the Meteora trails like the back of his hand, and is very well-versed with the history of the place too. While many people huff and puff up the hills, he strolls across like he's going to the supermarket, with plenty of breath left to narrate histories and perspectives of the Meteora monasteries. While the buses focus on the monasteries and rocks, the hike gives you the opportunity to see another side of Meteora, the green, lush side. If you're reasonably fit and want to go to Meteora, do the hike. You won't regret it.
This is a beautiful hike! Our guide Clement was very knowledgeable and also very personable and easy-going. His knowledge of the history and the area was an excellent addition to the beauty of the hike itself. The monasteries are amazing!
I loved this tour. We visited the inside of one monastery and hiked past the others and to some ruins of monasteries. The guide, I believe his name was Christos, was excellent. He had very interesting and informative stories, and he had a lot of knowledge to share. It was a beautiful hike and a lot of fun. I highly recommend this hiking tour with Christos.
A very nice trip, and the excellent guide, without a doubt 100% recommendable. thank you for giving me such a beautiful day.
The driver and guide were friendly, knowledgeable and genuine during our small, private tour. They seamlessly adjusted our tour to fit our specific interests. They were conversational while sharing historical facts and cultural anecdotes.
We were promptly picked up and we then made our way to Varlaam monastery, where we had 45 minutes. Then we had an awsum hike with Crystos the tour guide who was very knowledgeable about all of the meteora history and also natural history, plants and animals along the way.Definately recommend
Christos provided an exceptional tour through Meteora’s monastery back trails, and we were equally impressed with Clement’s incredible knowledge of the history of this dramatically beautiful region of Greece. Highly recommend walking as a way to see this region as part of a 2 day itinerary.
Today my wife and I had the pleasure to hike with Christos P. from one of the monasteries throughout the forest seeing many beautiful views. I had dreaded this hike expecting it to be very fatiguing but instead it was like a pleasant stroll with most of the elevation downwards not upwards. Christos has excellent English and he provided many interesting facts and details of the various spots we came across, from nature to history to cultural. We highly recommend this hike as it truly is the most beautiful hike we have ever gone on and we have gone on many.
Nice explanation about the Ottoman invasion and the ruins of some monasteries. Good be a bit longer. Accessible to children.
We appreciated Clement, our guide, who provided professional, courteous, thoughtful service. We highly recommend this tour because there are places/scenery which can’t be reached by vehicle.
I did the 4 hour tour after arriving by train the day before. I don't usually (ever!) do tours but this was very well priced and I thought a convenient way to get around the monasteries. The day I arrived I hiked up to the nearest two from Kalambaka and in theory you can visit them all yourself, as long as you set off early enough but I'm so glad I did this. I'm pretty fit and getting up the steps to each monastery was quite tough and would have been too much with walking to them all as well. Plus the guide gave a great talk about the monasteries, history and area was passionate about his home town. Both driver and guide were very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend.
Wonderful introduction to the magical mountains of Meteora with a knowledgeable and wonderfully kind tour guide by the name of Clement. Thank you :)
We booked the hiking tour and the sunset tour to do in one day as the website suggested. We were very disappointed with both. If you rent a car and drive there is no need to do either of these tours. We had rented a car and drove from Athens, which was long but relatively easy. We did not realize all the monasteries are very close together (probably should have done more research). If you have your own car you can visit all 6 easily in one day and get to go inside (except for any closed on the day you visit). The “hiking” tour was more like a nature tour. Nothing like what the video on their website depicts. You take 2.5 hours to “walk” less than 2.5 miles. It was more like a stand around and hear about random plants than a hike. The guide was wonderful on the hike and you could tell he is very passionate about what he does but he literally stopped about every 15-20 steps and then talked for a lengthy amount of time. We are active individuals and thought we would actually be hiking according to everything we read. I can’t remember the last time it took me 2.5 hours to walk 2.5 miles. It is not a difficult walk either. You also don’t really see much of the monasteries. You drive to one with everyone in the beginning, spend 45 minutes there and then that’s it. The nature walk begins after that. You do walk by one other monastery at some point that apparently closed during covid but the guide doesn’t even really tell you about it. This tour felt like a waste of time. We could have visited all the monasteries on our own and had time to explore around on foot on our own if we hadn’t booked this tour. We contemplated skipping the sunset tour after the morning experience but kept thinking it would surely be better. Not so. The hiking tour they were 30 minutes later than what they told us picking us up and the sunset tour they were almost 50 minutes later than what they told us. That’s a lot of wasted time standing around waiting on them. We never had any confirmation of where they were even picking us up so upon arrival in Meteora we drove to their office to confirm. They seemed very unorganized. The sunset tour should more appropriately be called the Instagram tour. Again, you visit one monastery on the inside. They tell you that you will see all 6 and by that they mean in a drive by. You either drive by altogether some of them or you stop and they allow you to take pictures from viewing spots. Visiting closed monasteries was not what we had planned. We were not there for the instagram photo ops. They literally would ask you if you like the pictures when you got back on the bus. We noticed the closing time of the monasteries we visited after closing and with better timing you could have gone in more than one. Very poor time management. After visiting the Byzantine church at the end we decided to bail on the sunset portion of the tour and go on our own. They just want to drive you to a huge rock with beautiful views that had tons of people on it. We went back to our place, got in our own car and drove all around. We had gorgeous views from many different points without all the crowds. In the end we felt that booking these tours did not give us the chance to really see the monasteries, which is part of the point in going to Meteora. If we had it to do over again we would go see each of them on our own and not have wasted our time or money on these tours.
It's an magic tour through the Meteora forests and paths, along with a visit to the monastery of Varlaam. Special thanks to Chris, our guide, who was very informative and funny as well, showing us the herbs, the mushrooms, the moss direction on the trees and was full of jokes with this amazing greek accent. I would definitely do that again in the future.
Awesome tour! Highly recommended! The path was great and we saw Meteora from a different "glance" that we didn't have the chance to experience it in other tours. The forest was beautiful. Christos our hiking guide was amazing!! He explained the history, geography, and the flora and fauna of the place, while hiking.
I joined both hiking and sunset tour. Both were good, but hiking tour was superb and beyond expectation. I thought it was just ordinary hiking, but it turned out to be a historical, geographical, biological learning hiking tour. Our guide Giorgia explained everything she knows along the hike, the things we see. it was fruitful and gained a lot of knowledge through the hike, besides you see the views and takes the road that less people taken. If you have limited time, go for hiking tour! It just worth it.
The stories The views and landscape The fabulous guides Chrissa and Chris who were friendly, fun, entertaining and knowledgeable. Feeling connected to nature
Hiking with Meteora thrones - Dimitri & Sarah tour guides made my experience unforgettable. The unique and charming views of Meteora coupled with the personalized approach of Dimitri & Sarah in touring made the whole difference. It felt like hiking with old friends, we laughed, got informed, and enjoyed the sceneries all at the same time. I'm very grateful to them and seems that Meteora Thrones leaders know how to recruit! Best.
My (teenage) daughters and I did the Hiking Meteora Tour in the morning/ early afternoon and the Sunset Tour in the late afternoon/evening. Both guides were VERY knowledgeable and made sure that everyone in our group (the hiking tour included younger children than mine as well) was entertained. During the hiking tour, we learned loads about the geology of Meteora, mythology, history and botanics. During the Sunset Tour, we took a shuttle to many gorgeous places I would not have found on my own (for example, the Byzantine Church of the Assumption of the Virgin in the town of Kalambaka - it is absolutely STUNNING). Both tours were extremely interesting and I can highly recommend them for all age groups. We were picked up from our hotel on time and got dropped off in front of our hotel again after the tours. Communication with Meteora Thrones was very smooth and I would definitely book with them again if I come to the area! Thank you to the team for a wonderful time in one of the most amazing spots on earth!!
Excellent tour guide (Dimitris) with great knowledge transfer skills and in a mood for discussion. The trail was really nice with several panoramic spots. One can enjoy the nature of the area to its fullest.
Having Dimitri for our guide!!!! We’d had him on a sunset tour so we knew he liked being a guide by the excellent job he did. How thoroughly he knows his history and other interesting facts. Wish school students could learn their lessons from him. Great to be part of what you’re hearing about
We made both hiking tour with Dimitri and Sunset tour with Chris. Both guides were dynamic with very good knowledges of Meteores regarding History, Mythology, orthodox religion, geology and meteor environment. They are really fun and will provide you the best way to discover the region. Thanks again for this journey
We inquired about a hike and a Rock Climbing tour around 9pm at the office to be done the next morning. That was a real short notice for them but they did it! Vasso Bellos was so helpful to assist us. She and the other 2 men at the office texted the tour guides and connected us with a professional climber and hiker who took my daughter and me the next day to a wonderful hike and a climbing route, even though it was a national holiday and almost every Greek was at home with their family that day! Thank you Vasso and office staff! You helped us achieve our goal and in a short notice made it possible!
This hiking tour was a fun, active & informative experience. We had the pleasure of being the only family on this tour for that day, which is always a plus. Dimitris was our guide, very enjoyable and can't thank him enough for having so much attention for our 2 kids (13 & 10), making this a memorable activity for all of us. Spotting the turtle was a highlight for our youngest :-) Definitely recommend this hike!
Dimitris is amazing. We combined the hike and the sunset, so Dimitris was with us a full day. We can’t say enough about him. He was thorough with all the facts and added some fun Greek mythology. Meteora is magical. It’s unique and a “must do” as it’s beauty can’t be explained, but has to be experienced. We are so happy we left Athens for a day and a night to visit Meteora. Thank you Dimitris and Meteora Thrones for an unforgettable experience!
Dimitris was our guide for a wonderful 4 hour hiking experience in the unique landscape packed with unique geology and history. Dimitris knows the history very well and kept the hike lively, education, and fun. We highly recommend this tour. Many of the views of some monasteries are not visible from a bus tour, but only possible with the hiking experience. I would also rate the hike as moderate with some sections a little strenuous, so be prepared with sturdy shoes and water.
If you want an excellent and informative tour of the Meteora, then Chris “the teacher” is the man for the job. We had a wonderful hiking tour with lots of history and funny stories to remember.
our guide was Christoph, a lovely mature guy from a nearby village. he showed us a 1000 things about the local history, nature, philosophy and daily life. each will an interesting story. he really bought Greece alive for us.
The tour was given to me as a Christmas present and turned out as a highlight of my 5 day stay in kalambaka. I did the tour at 28/12/19. It was amazing to hike through the huge rock formations and the little hidden paths but what made it different was our tour guide Dimitris. Dimitris was very enthusiastic about his job, had excellent skills of communication, great knowledge on the Greek history and Mythology and he is surely an asset for the company he works. I highly recommend the tour if you want to see Meteora from another aspect but choose Dimitris as your guide- he will not disappoint you!
Meteora thrones is the best choice to visit Meteora. You have the time to explore all the places and the tourguide can answer whatever you ask. I suggest it! Thnx a lot:)
We did the sunset tour with Kristos and the hiking tour with Thanos. They were both amazing and friendly. Very knowledgeable. We did more walking on the sunset tour because the group wanted to and Kristos was very accomodating. Thanos knew a lot about the local history and the plants and nature on the hiking trip. He really helped us understand Meteora and its beauty in context. I could not recommend it enough. He even recommended us a nice place to eat sausage, and it was delicious. Apparently the sausage here is the best in Greece. We were divided between the car trip and the hiking trip, and we are really glad we went with the hiking tour. Thanos was funny and lively and made the tour went by so quickly.
Highly recommend this tour. It classifies as easy in terms of hiking difficulty, and hiking boots are recommended if you have some (if not, gym shoes will work as well). Christos, our guide, was an excellent teacher of all things Greek, nature, and history. He was very kind and friendly and created a fun atmosphere while on our hike. We were sure glad to have him as our guide. He led us to some amazing views that are not to be missed on your trip to Meteora.
Chris is funniest tour guide ever come across , very knowledgeable and proud of local knowledge ... the hiking route is a footpath near monastery of Great meteroa, you need a key to open the door.. lovely view and lots of mushrooms :-)
