Itinerary
Five days a week, vendors set up shop in the laneways. Organic produce bursts from crates labeled by region, and stands overflow with honey, spices, and other local goods. Pates, cheeses, and dips fill Deli Hall, also known as the Dairy Produce Hall. Around every corner, there's a sight to see, and your guide will point out details easy to miss in the bustling market throughout the 2-hour tour.
While most of the market is filled with tables and stands, you can also find specialty shops. Gourmet breads are sold over at the bustling M&G Caiafa, nuts, dried fruits and grains abound. For a sweet treat, head to the American Doughnut Kitchen, where you can indulge in famous hot jam doughnut. For handmade pasta of all shapes and sizes, step into the Traditional Pasta Shop.
At the end of your guided tour, enjoy a fruit platter!
Sample tasting menu, subject to change:
• Coffin Bay oysters
• Hot jam doughnuts
• Grilled peppered kangaroo
• Pickled octopus
• Local goats’ milk cheese
• Fresh dolmades
• Victorian olives
Please note: Tastings are seasonal and dependent on what’s new and currently popular at the market.

Great experience with our wonderful guide Irene. Thanks for a fun and informative tour of the markets!
Great tour of the QVM, learning about the history of the Market and Melbourne, and tasting some amazing food. The tour was well organised and the guide was just wonderful with her knowledge and enthusiasm about the market and its traders. As a Melbourne local it has reminded me that it is a great spot to do some serious fresh food shopping as well as browse all the other stalls. Highly recommend the tour for both locals and tourists.
The iconic QVM has been one of Melbourne's go-to experiences. The tour lead by Irene was informative not only for the history of the markets themselves, but the store holders and the knowledge she has. She treated us (the group of 13) like members of her family. Making sure that each one of us was getting the most of the tour. The store holders are unique in that they take interest in you. They ask questions about what tastes you prefer and advising on what goes with what when cooking. Well-worth the time and its incredibly good value!
Our students loved the $19 foodie tour at Vic Market, our tour guides where great and had a focus engaging the students other senses as they are vision impaired. Thank-you!
What a wonderful way to experience Queen Victoria market! Our guide, Marcellez, was fun and knowledgeable. We enjoyed learning about the history of the market and seeing all the food halls and vendors. The samples were varied and gave a good overall feel of the market. We had time to explore the market after the tour and buy up some of the food we sampled.
There is a lot of walking, and you learn a lot of stuff about the place and taste some yummy food. But leave yourself time after the tour to keep exploring as there is so much to see. We bolted around after the tour and grabbed some of the things that we had tried through the day to take home. We also came back the next day to explore some more, as we had organised something for later in the afternoon which meant we couldn't stay as long as we felt we needed.
Mandy was an enthusiastic, knowledgeable guide who knows the market like the back of her hand. The food selections included a bit of the exotic - raw oysters, kangaroo sausage - along with charcuterie and wonderful jam doughnuts for dessert. Highly recommended.
Mercellez was our guide. Extremely knowledgeable about the history and current operations of the Market. Stall holders were all friendly and the tastings were superb. If you live in Melbourne you’d be foolish not to buy fresh from this Market. The freshness, variety, price coupled with smallholder’s that truly love what they do is worth supporting. The market is sensitive to their carbon footprint and their practices are to be commended. Highly recommend the tour and Mercellez..
A group of friends and I had an amazing time on this tour. Mercellez, our guide, was obviously passionate about food, the markets and their history. She had a great rapport with all the vendors and we were treated to some fabulous produce. This was a highlight of our girl's weekend and I would highly recommend it.
I had a very nice morning at the Market. The quide was excellent and entertaining. Thank you very much Irene.
Thank you Mercelez for introducing me and my daughter to the QVM. You combined your excellent knowledge of and passion for the markets in a way that felt welcoming and authentic.
It’s wonderful to visit a market that’s full of variety. Our guide was awesome and knowledgeable. What a blast!!
Rare opportunity to meet the fabulous providers, then gain inside knowledge of their produce and the crown of the experience is then try the food. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and inclusive. Providing good back ground of the history and operations of the market.
Mandy was a great host with fantastic insights to the market. We would have not had a clue where to go or what yo do with so many vendors. It was quite overwhelming. She introduced us to some very interesting stops and we loved the variety. I just wish there were more tastings as there are on other cities Trip Advisor recommendations. The price was unreasonable for the experience. NO reflection on our host as she was super fun and amazing. We have done food tours in different cities from Trip Advisor that we would definitely do again. This is not one of them as it is poor value.
Excellent and informative tour that makes you appreciate the traders and their passion for good quality service and produce.
Carmel was an excellent and gracious guide. The food samples were delicious - fruit, oysters, cheese, bread, gelato. The reusable shopping bag is very nice. I recommend this tour; plan a few hours after to explore the market on your own, if possible.
I loved my foodie tour with Carmel. She was warm and friendly, and full of revelations. The vendors also were great, including those at the Chicken Pantry, The Epicurean, Curds and Whey, Benny's Fruit Corner and Geloso Gelataria. A great way to spend a Saturday morning – or any morning.
Excellent tour with an experienced and super knowledgeable guide. We learnt so much about the history of the Queen Victoria Market, how it’s run in the present day and what the best food options are. The tastings delicious and generous which included oysters, kangaroo meat, cheeses, fruits and ice cream. Would recommend to all.
This was terrific! Amanda gave us a complete tour of the food hall, and customized the tour to just us. We had several food samples, including mango and macademia nuts and cheeses and some meat. We had a great time.
Irene was an informed and interesting guide. We stopped at a half dozen vendors for tastings. All tastings were fantastic but we particularly enjoyed the St Helen’s oysters and squid ink mortadella. We also enjoyed the stories from the vendors. Overall a super experience.
Hannah was a fantastic tour guide, she is both knowledgeable and fun! I got to try a variety of different foods the QV market has to offer from delicious mussels to made in house gelato. This tour was both educational and tasty, I would 100% recommend it to anyone who is traveling to Melbourne.
A must visit in Melbourne, especially if you love food. We started from the food hall side and came hungry. Had the bratwurst, hot chocolate, and two dozen oysters – the Sydney rock oysters were the best. After that, we moved on to the main market area, which had even more cooked food that day. I think there was a Philippine event happening, so there were many Philippine food stalls as well. We were already quite full by then, but it added a lively vibe to the whole place.
During my time in Melbourne, I went to the Queen Victoria Market for a week in a row. The place here is really big, which can be simply divided into four parts: the cooked food area, the raw food area, the fruit and vegetable market and the souvenir market. There are some small shops in the delicatessen area where you can order food, and there is a place to sit down and eat on the spot. Personally, I think breakfast or lunch is very suitable. Raw food areas and fruit and vegetable markets are for guests to buy and cook food. Those meats and seafood are very cheap. I have no ideas but locals say this kind of price is cheaper than other places. There are many handmade things for sale in the souvenir market, such as: soap, skin care products, we loved it.
Our guide Daria was very great at introducing us the greatness of the traditional market. All the tastings were so delicious and all the staff were very generous about the history and the specialty of their store.
We had the pleasure of Daria as our guide around the QVM, she was such a delight and wealth of knowledge. The 2 hour food tour around the market was so amazing and as a local to Melbourne it opened my eyes and tummy to places and vendors I never knew had such incredible family history. I very much recommend this foodies tour, the amount of food enjoyed throughout is worth every cent paid and then some. I suggest skipping breakfast as you’ll last till dinner with what you sample and enjoy.
We met our guide Irene who was welcoming and friendly. She took us on an interesting visit through the market and was full of interesting information about the market and the traders. The traders were also interesting with info about their histories. Don’t have a big brekky or plan on a large lunch afterwards as the sampling was delicious and plentyful. On our tour we sampled some delicious treats including oysters, salmon, kangaroo, chicken, cheeses and antipasto. A lovely vanilla slice and donuts. What a great way to spend our Saturday mornin
Terrific tour we enjoy the insights into the history of the markets and the stories of the traders. Our guide Irene was knowledgeable and made the tour such a fabulous experience. We sampled delicious produce from all area. An excellent experience would recommend.
There is plenty of food tastings in the market so dont eat a big brekkie or plan a big lunch afterwards. Irene our guide was very good. Friendly with lots of history and information. The stallhokders we visited were very generous with their time and samples from seafood and cheese to doughnuts and cakes Highly recommended for a morning activity.
Fantastic morning. Lovely group and informative guide. The tasting options were great and lots of variety.
The tour was very informative, offering a rich history of the markets and their connection to the development of Melbourne City. I especially enjoyed learning about the family traditions and ways of life—it gave great cultural context. The tour guide was excellent, knowledgeable, and engaging. The reason I’ve given three stars, however, is because the food experience didn’t quite live up to expectations. While the historical and cultural elements were strong, the culinary side felt fairly average.
AMAZING place! I cannot recommend it enough. One nigh per week (Wednesday) they have a night market (winter/summer night market) with lots of food choices. During most days you can visit it during the day for some fresh produce, souvenirs and much more. I highly recommend it for souvenirs as they have some nice and locally-produced ones.
Albert Park College teachers took a number of Year 10 Food Studies students on a visit to QVM. It was a fantastic experience with students learning about the history of the market, exploring the culture of the food, tasting many interesting things and they fully engaged with our excellent guides and the vendors. A thoroughly enjoyable experience which I would highly recommend to anyone interested in food and culture. Thanks especially to Bettina who made everything easy and enjoyable. Caro
My wife bought the tour for me and my sister as a Christmas present. We did the tour today with Hannah as our tour guide. Absolutely loved it. we tasted mussels, kangaroo, salamis, cheese , antipasto and fresh fruit and finished with the famous American doughnuts. The sounds, smells and flavours we experienced were amazing. I've lived in Melbourne all my life and have been coming to the market since childhood. It was so interesting to hear some of the storeholders tell us about their time as a stallholder. Hannah was a delightful guide for our group of 6 pointing out things we didnt know. Thoroughly recommend the tour for locals and tourists.
Virginia our guide gave a fascinating history of the market whilst her knowledge of the produced and the market traders was fantastic. The market itself is outstanding and the produce on sale as good if not better than anything we have experienced in any other country in Europe. We tasted a broad sample of different high quality foods including Chai Tea, mussels, kangaroo, fantastic Australian cheeses, locally produced cured meats and several other fantastic produce. By the end if the tour we were nicely full. A very enjoyable tour which we would recommend. Definately a tour for people who love good locally produced food.
We had a brilliant time - Virginia, our tour guide was great and certainly knew her stuff about the market and what the best things were to taste. Certainly didn’t need any lunch after all the goodies This is definitely the best way to get the most out of the market.
Last Wednesday we enjoyed strolling and sampling the treats at the various food stalls. It gets quite loud and crowded but this also makes it jovial and gives it character. It was fun to shop and also learn about the market.
The Queen Victoria Market is a major landmark and public marketplace in the central business district (CBD) of Melbourne. Covering over seven hectares (17 acres), it is the largest open air market in the Southern Hemisphere. Constructed in stages from the 1860s and officially opened in 1878.. There is something for everyone here. The fresh stalls are amazing, with strange seafood and fruits..There is a large non food site aswell, selling just about everything. It is however closed on Mondays and Wednesdays
Irene is a knowledgeable guide with a passion for the market and its vendors. She relayed real life stories about the history of the market and made it all come alive. The tour took in a wide range of stalls and the tastings along the way were outstanding - from oysters, Australian meats, cheeses, fruit, slices and donuts - everything was fresh and fabulous! This was a brilliant way to visit the market and develop a deeper understanding of its history, how it works and the generations of families that have kept it providing for the Melbourne community. We would highly recommend this tour for visitors and locals! Thanks, Irene - we loved it!
Our tour guide Irene did a fabulous job. She took great care and pride in telling us about the market and vendors. Everything we ate was delicious. It was such a great experience to sample so many wonderful foods and to learn about the market - and from such a lovely tour guide. After the tour, we purchased some items and some food we had learned about on the tour. We loved it there so much. How fortunate I would be to be able to live near this market and routinely shop there.
What a great experience. Our guide Irene was the best. So informative and there did was excellent.... So fresh and tasty. Would recommend this your to everybody.
There was a small group of very pleasant people. The tour guide, Irene was very informative and helpful as she introduced us to stall holders and provided us with many and varied tasting experiences. At the end of the tour I went back to many of the stalls to make purchases and was recognised and given very friendly service. It was a great overall experience. I would recommend it. Karen.
A must tour in Melbourne. Our guide Irene was fantastic, professional, informative and had a wonderful sense of humour. The food was delicious and the market stall owners were so friendly.
Amazing tour! Generous tastings and a beautiful tote bag from the Queen Victoria Market. Insightful history behind the market and sellers were telling the story of their booths. Passionate and definitely recommendable!
Melbourne's Victoria Market Place is always busy, especially on Sunday. There's several halls to buy things, most notably being supplied by the butchers and the ocean products. Nearby is the fruit and vegetables hall, which is always busy. Victoria Market is always busy, but Sunday is great for customers. Products like paw-paws and coconuts are things to buy, and then eat. Value is worth having for things to eat and make.
Really loved this tour and can highly recommend. Our tour guide knew a lot about the history and the food/ vendors. We got to try a lot of delicious food. We had a great time
We had an amazing time on the foodie tour over the weekend! The food was absolutely delicious, and the vibrant atmosphere made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Our guide Irene, shared fascinating historical information along the way, keeping it both informative and fun. The combination of great food, interesting stories, and a lively, friendly group made it a real highlight of our weekend. Highly recommend!
Great, plenty of information and generous samples. Over 7 different tastings. From oysters to cheese tasting to American doughnuts. Your guide Hannah was great
We went on the Foodie's Tour on Saturday and were delighted with the experience. Four of us made up a group of 6 which was a great number and were taken on the tour by Irene, who was knowledgable and friendly, and very popular with the stall owners!! Tasted loads of great food samples, met lots of wonderful characters at the different shops and had an all round fantastic two hours. Will definitely go back to the market with all the new knowledge about what to find where and which shops to visit. A warm thank you for a great day out.
100% can recommend this tour. Irene was amazing. Learning some of the history of the market was a bonus among all the food tastings.
