There was supposed to be a 2 course dinner included and it says so on our tickets but there was no mention of it the entire night so we were hungry the entire 2 hours walking around Melbourne. It seemed a lot more of a historical walk than a "Ghosts, Murder & Mystery" tour. I'd love my money and time back. Most interesting part of the night was helping a random stranger after a glass bottle was thrown at her before the tour had even started.

It’sa scam. The meeting point is wrong on the booking site. All the contact numbers are wrong.
Charlotte was excellent very friendly and knowledgeable asset to the company
Bit disappointed because when I enquired I was told it was more history rather than the ghost aspect and that’s what I was really looking for
Chloe was such an amazing tour guide! Very informative and captivating, and her knowledge was amazing. We can’t recommend her enough!
Entertaining way to spend an evening in the city. Charlotte was a great guide with a wicked sense of humor.
Thoroughly enjoyed tour and would recommend to family and friends. I was born and bread in Melbourne and learned many things about city. Timea was a great guide and story teller - a hidden gem who clearly enjoys what she does.
The tour was great, even if you aren't the biggest believer in spooky stuff, the history is always really interesting. Our tour guide was particularly good at dealing with the drunk hecklers that were wondering around after the cricket. Great atmosphere overall.
Depending on the booking the group could be quite large. We thought a smaller group (e.g. maximum of 15) would have been better. The tour we did was not actually that spooky but some gruesome details were provided so if you think you're even slightly squeamish, don't do it. The guide was genuinely enthusiastic and did her best to get the group involved. The 'spiritual' divining rods certainly added a point of difference. Was something a bit different so was worth doing. It pays to go in with an open mind.
Our tour guide Charolette was very knowledgeable about the stories! Wear comfortable shoes as you cover some ground.
The tour starts with a meal at a local hotel, which was really quite good. Enough options from the set menu to satisfy most folks. Drinks were not included so are extra, but are reasonably priced. The quirky host was engaging, although a little more on the history of the places would be helpful. We only were able to actually enter two sites, so much of the tour is walking the streets. If you’re into this sort of thing, you might be a bit disappointed about that but overall I think it was worth the time. Watching the people who think it’s real, but are quite happy to make sure the little metal thingies are moving and pointing is always amusing.
Timea was fantastic, she made the whole experience very engaging and thrilling!! You never know where or who you are walking on...
Firstly do go and enjoy a meal at the Young Jackson hotel which is the meeting point for the tour it’s a great atmosphere and really nice meals. I was lucky our tour was a small group and the tour intwines the history of Melbourne with those who do not want to leave, but have left us on this side so to speak. Overall it was my first tour and I really recommend it
An easy walking tour, with a great balance of history and spookiness, made for an enjoyable evening in Melbourne's CBD. Very interesting overall and the guide injected dramatic flair into her knowledgeable presentation.
Done a few ghost tours and this one was hands down the best so far. Charlotte was our amazing guide who not only shared amazing stories of historical facts about Melbourne.
We were really looking forward to a thrilling and spooky ghost tour in Melbourne, but unfortunately, there was nothing scary about it. Instead of chilling ghost stories, we got more of a nighttime city tour with a few local anecdotes—nothing that would send shivers down your spine. Our guide was friendly, but unfortunately quite difficult to understand, making it even harder to get into the atmosphere. The stories themselves weren’t particularly exciting or well told. A quick glance at the faces of the other participants said it all: most looked more bored than entertained. If you’re expecting a real ghost or horror tour, you’ll likely be disappointed. However, if you’re simply looking for a casual city walk at night with some local stories, this might still be okay. But for the price, we definitely expected more.
We booked this several days ahead for my son and I. Trip Advisor sent us a confirmation email stating the meeting place for the Williamstown tour was 1 Swanston Street at 8.30pm. No one was there at that time so I called the number provided. A lady stated that I was at the correct place. A minute later a tour guide called and asked if we were still coming on the tour. I stated yes but no one was at the meeting point. She asked where we were and I advised we were at Swanston Street, Melbourne as per instructions. The tour guide then said the meeting point was in Williamstown, not Melbourne. We had received incorrect information from Trip Advisor and we should ask for a refund. I immediately rang Trip Advisor and requested this. 30 minutes later I was told my refund was declined as they could not substantiate that the tour operator had tried to call me. I won't ever be using Trip Advisor again. I'm sure the tour would have been great.
As the only thing we had time to do in Melbourne, this tour was spot on! An exciting look into the mysterious side of the city center and a tour of the sights. We also got some restorant references. Recomended!
This was great fun, interactive and a bit spooky. Linda was a great guide as she took us through Melbourne’s dark alleyways, sharing stories, paranormal experiences and information about old Melbourne! Highly recommend.
The tour was cancelled at the last minute after we had already arrived at the meeting location . We cannot reschedule due to our travel schedule.
The tour was fun and informative. Whether you believe in ghosts or not it's a great tour to find out more about Melbourne. Tip: where comfortable walking shoes as there is a lot of walking.
Whether you believe or not the stories were memorable and interesting, loved the history. Excellent guide. Thank you.
Very informative tour about Melbourne's History, our Guide Chloe was very good and looked and sounded like she loved her job, our meal at the Young and Jackson Hotel was very enjoyable, stay a few days and enjoy Melbourne, would recommend this
We really enjoyed the ghost tour. We’ve been coming to Melbourne a few times a year for 17 years and it’s good to learn more about the history of Melbourne and it’s people. The tour is a great opportunity to walk up and down the little back streets that we’ve hardly even noticed in the past. Ash was our tour guide and she did an awesome job. The weather was great too which made the experience perfect. Great job Ash 👍🏻😁
Chloe was a great teller of the tales associated with each stop and was able to answer all the questions sent her way.
More of a history tour. Much of the walk was poorly lit maybe good to have a couple more lanterns. It would have been good to go into some of the places instead of just looking at the outside of a building
came across this site while in Melbourne. I did a walking tour in London years ago and loved it. My wife is very in tune to the psychic and I surprised her with this. We did the old melbourne tour on friday night with Charlotte. Not only do you get ghosts, you get history too. Learned about the city and had a wonderful time. So much so that we decided to do the Pentridge tour as well. I went online and tried to book the pentridge tour but it was full. So I sent an email and quickly got a response and they worked us in as we have to return to the United States and could only do that night. Both tours were great, I dont "believe" in the ghosts too much but I will say this - I will NEVER go back in pentridge again. That place is creepy. You wont be dissapointed on the tours and if you can get Charlotte go for it.
We take part of the ghost tour with Chloe. We don't believe in supernatural staff and so we decided us for the tour just for our entertainment. Chloe was a super tour guide. We enjoyed her storytelling skills, and loved the way she painted all the characters.
Our tour guide was quite talented at re-creating the historic happenings and daily events of early Williamstown. Educational AND interesting to find out how tough life was back then, and how dangerous. Guide encouraged us to 'feel' the atmosphere, and to take photos. She offered us the use of dousing sticks and a 'geiger counter' which detects ghosts, which was a bit of fun.
I recently spent my Halloween doing the Old Melbourne Ghost Tour, and it was perfect for the occasion. The tour guide we had was awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed her storytelling skills, and loved the way she painted all the characters. She was personable and approachable, and kept her group together even tho we had some slower walkers. Highly recommended!
Loved the tour! Most of all loved that we got to see the pics of others who have gone on the tour! I also enjoyed the stories of the prisoner's who were once celled there. I would highly recommend doing it.
Facilitated by an actress. Very entertaining stories of the sordid past of Melbourne. Great for believers in ghosts as well as non believers. Sometimes the entertainment is just watching the believers in the group!
Great host - Chloe- interesting trip around the city, learnt some new things. Chloe was an engaging host. Good size group around 30.
I did the tour on a Sunday night which is rare for me but it was worth it to find out more about the history of Melbourne VIC, we started from the young and Jackson hotel and headed up towards some of the many lanes around Melbourne, I was quite surprised to learn about a ghost seen on platform 10 at Flinders Street station and some other ghosts reportedly seen nearby the guide was happy to answer any questions that we had and even talked about his own experiences on the tours he had done previously
My husband and I did the Melbourne ghost tour with dinner at the Young and Jackson hotel! The hotel is very nice and the dinner was excellent! Our tour guide Charlotte was very informative and humourous! It was very interesting learning the history and ghostly details of Melbourne's past! Would love to do another if these tours.
Charlotte is fabulous, great person to be hosting tour. Funny and friendly as well as knowledgeable.
Tour guide gave a great tour of the city of Melbourne including the history of the city. It was a mixture of history and ghost stories. Thoroughly enjoyed
My girlfriend's and I had a great night out on a tour of Melbourne with Ken. Would definitely do another one in the future with this company. Really interesting hearing all the tales of old and particularly enjoyed the story of Princess Theartre.
Tour guide was good, but stories were not always relevant to Melbourne ghosts. Nothing overly scary or revealing about Melbourne's past. Was a bit of a skeptic going in, but kept an open mind, even more of a skeptic now though.
Had a great time. Learned some interesting Melbourne history. Our tour guide Julie was knowledgeable and a great story teller. I recommend the tour for an interesting lazy Sunday. 😀👍🏽
Our flight was delayed (supposed to leave Hobart at 1:30pm and then due to a flight cancellation and then a schedule change, we were unable to arrive on time for the tour. As soon as we found out, we called to advise that we couldn’t make it and to see if we could change the date. After doing another tour with Lantern Ghost Tours, this was going to be one of the highlights of our trip. However, no cancellation or refund policy apparently also means that if you get screwed over by the airline, then these guys are going to make sure that it is balls deep and not allow you to change to another date. Thanks - you have made a bad day a little worse.
Our tour was Sat 23/06/2018 @ 8.30 with Chloe, I have to say a big thank you to our guide, given she has trams, horses, beeping cars(welcome to Melbourne) rowdy passes by, she held the group interested throughout the whole experience, she has great knowledge of times gone by, took some pics- got something strange that I can't explain, a few tingles in one of the alleys where a young girl had been taken, overall a great experience- getting the girls together for the next one!! Can't wait........
Great tour with an excellent guide. Takes you through the hidden laneways and encounter some ghostly tales on the way. Was busy due to other events going on in the city but would definitely recommend.
The central Melbourne ghost tour is more a gruesome history and back alleys tour than a ghost tour, but still good (3.5 out of 5 or better for non-believers). The things we used to do to each other on those pitch black, unsupervised evenings! :-( Knowledgeable and enthusiastic tour guide, Chloe, had a great command of the English language and a good spiel. The atmosphere was hardly ghost like, but it opens ones eyes and makes one think twice about going down some dark back alleys, some of which were surprisingly interesting, especially those with street art. Worth knowing is that the tour winds its way from Federation Square up to China town, where it finishes (and evil spirits remaining are cleansed from within), with assistance provided to return to the starting point for those who may require it. Going on a cold, dark, quiet, foggy night would improve the atmosphere out of sight - something to think about when looking for something fun to do on a winter's night.
This tour was fantastic. It takes you through the little hidden lane ways that make Melbourne, Melbourne. Yes its more of a history lesson but it gets to the nitty gritty gruesome side of Melbourne's history which i found very interesting. Our tour guide was great. We look forward to going on another Lantern Tour very soon.
A very busy start due to the Moomba crowds, but once under way we found the experience very enjoyable . Our group was a bit large I feel but we all managed to keep up . Highly recommended and our guide Chloe did well with the with the busy evening .
Good tour. Large group however. The group meets under the “I” of the visitors information centre in federation square, it is not stated on this website.
Quite a large group of us about 20 people . Our tour guide was very good and interesting . Took us to about 7 different stops down alleyways etc with a story for each stop. If you like history with a bit of gory twist then go on this tour . Make sure you have good walking shoes .

Be aware that this tour is located about 30 minutes outside of the city. We took an uber, but the alternative with the train would have taken awhile. I have been on ghost tours in other parts of the world, and this was by far the creepiest. You learn about the history of the prison, but the tour also aims to create an element of fear, if you like that kind of stuff, this is for you! I found it slightly misleading that it stated it was in Melbourne, but farther out from the city center,

Potted history of Melbourne, some interesting bits, some dull bits.
