A very enjoyable 75-minute experience. We visited a great variety of highlights at the grounds and our guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Antoinette, our volunteer guide, made this tour a memorable part of our trip to Melbourne!
The Melbourne Cricket Ground is an absolute must visit, whether you're a cricket fan or not. The sheer size, history, and atmosphere of the stadium are incredible, and the guided tour is well worth it. Walking through the players' areas, the Long Room, the iconic stands, and learning about the rich sporting history of Australia made for a memorable experience. One of the most emotional parts of the visit was the Shane Warne memorial. Seeing the heartfelt dedications from his children was incredibly touching and a beautiful tribute to one of cricket's greatest legends. It added a deeply personal and emotional dimension to the visit that we won't forget.
Well organised & lots of things to see behind the scenes. Great games for school age children to play in the museum
We had Brendan for our tour. A spritely 83 year old, utterly wonderful old gentleman. He has the MCG in every cell of his being. Highly recommend and go to the sports museum straight after.
A brilliant experience showing all aspects of the stadium! Excellent guide, Peter! Well worth visiting !
Excellent tour all round. The guy managing the tour was exceptional in show us round and was really good with everything. Next time we come from UK to Australia, we will go to the museum. 10 out of 10 all round.
Clare was lovely, professional and gave us a great tour of the MCG! I’d recommend to family and friends!
My wife and Ihave been to the ground before but never done the tour. What a fantastic experience to walk onto the ground and experience the behind the scenes of this great Australian sporting venue. So fortunate that we did the tour with our Guide, John E. He was passionate about sport at the venue, extremely knowledgeable and approachable. He made our experience so authentic.
Volunteer guides are super knowledgeable and you can see how much they love the ‘G. The tour is an excellent way to see the stadium from the ‘inside’
Thought we would get to see alot more. ie. change rooms, go on ground. Tour guide was great in what we did see
No words here. If you are a cricket fan especially or just generally like sport, this tour is superb. Our guide was a long standing (>50 year) member and exceptionally knowledgeable. A perfect afternoon experience.
Great tour with a very knowledgable and engaging guide - very professional, although I understand they are actually all volunteers. Lots of behind-the-scenes, lots of history, lots of chances to see what the players see and go where the players go - just what you want from a sports ground tour! You can spend as long as you like afterwards in the Sports Museum - unfortunately or own personal itinerary didn't allow for that to be terribly long ( you can actually come and go as many times as you like on your day of admission) but what we did see was great. As cricket fans, we headed straight for the Shane Warne section - the hologram projection/film was particularly good: celebratory witty and poignant.
After witnessing the amazing stadiums like Real Madrids Bernabeu and Bayern Munich's Allianz arena and having experienced some of the fantastic stadiums in the USA for the football world cup, I did a tour of the MCG. It really is so outdated in comparison to any of the world's great arenas. Hopefully it will happen in the not too distant future.
Must do experience for all cricket fans. So many childhood memories relived. So much history of the stadium. John from the MCG guide team was an absolute champ showing us around the belly of the beast called the 'G'. Thanks John!
There is a bit of walking and stairs to go down to the grounds and then back up again but it is spread over a time period so you have to time to rest.
A must do place when in Melbourne ✅ We targeted to go to MCG the moment we decided to be in Melbourne; and actually we wound up doing this the first thing on the first day. We are, in deed, glad that we did so. Most highly recommended for all Visitors to MEL 😍
It was great and memorable visit My visit to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) was truly an unforgettable and memorable experience. From the moment I arrived, I could feel the incredible history, atmosphere, and sporting spirit that makes the MCG such an iconic place. Walking through this legendary stadium and seeing the enormous seating areas, historic displays, and world-class facilities was absolutely fascinating. What impressed me most was the rich sporting heritage of the MCG and the many unforgettable moments that have taken place here over the years. The atmosphere inside the stadium was special even when there wasn’t a major match happening. It gave me a real appreciation for why the MCG is considered one of the greatest sporting venues in the world. It was a wonderful experience for me and my family, and definitely one of the highlights of our Melbourne visit. I would highly recommend visiting the MCG to anyone travelling to Melbourne. It is not just a stadium—it is a place filled with history, memories, passion, and unforgettable sporting stories. A truly remarkable experience that I will remember for a long time!
This tour was worth every cent. From walking in, security guards were friendly and helpful, as was the ticket sales young lady. Then Volunteer Brian took us through the MCG. Brian was just the best and we truly want to thank you for your time and your knowledge. Brian was so enthusiastic, knowledgable, passionate and just a really friendly guy. I didn’t think I’d enjoy it as much as I did. Absolutely a fabulous experience. Thank you MCG and Brian, Lyn, Martin, Anne and Gary.
The guide was very good, took time to explain along the tour. Very personable and very knowledgeable.
It was such an interesting and informative tour. Paul, our guide was across all the information and history of the MCC/MCG. He came across as a genuinely kind and professional volunteer. My sister and I enjoyed the tour immensely.
To see inside the ‘G’ and behind scene rooms is a great experience A lot to explore and see first hand a great sport stadium
Very informative and interesting. Guide was very informative and showed a good insight into the MCG.
The Melbourne Cricket Ground or MCG is the largest stadium in the southern hemisphere , with a capacity of 100,125, and one of the mst impressive stadiums in the world. It is really massive, and makes places like the Bernabeu and the Allianz Arena small in comparison. The guided tour is very much recommended : it lasts about 75 minutes and will show you the inside of the massive ground, the stands, the dressing and press rooms in the catacombs of the stadium, the luxurious club and banquet faciltiies for the members of the Melbourne Cricket Club (membership brings with it many privileges!!!), and VIP lounges. Our guide , a cricket aficionado, explained the cricket history of the MCG from the 1860s to the present day, quite fascinating. The MCG is also the venue where the most memorable "YNWA" (You'll never walk alone, the Liverpool FC anthem) was performed in 2013 during a friendly between Liverpool and Melbourne Victory. To hear YNWA at Anfield is amazing, but to hear 96000 sing the anthem at MCG is totally mindblowing.....
I have done this twice now, the short tour. Make sure you wear warm clothes if going in winter. Walking shoes as you are walking or standing majority of the time. The sports museum is worth a visit.
Do not do this tour if you are not extremely fit. She kept running the entire stadium for 75 min. Don't stop or wait for anyone. Once her speech is over, no time to click photos. Must click photos when she is giving info. If you are left behind, you will be lost in the stadium. You should be capable of walking very fast for 75 min. They should write this disclaimer on the website.
Very friendly staff who were willing to take the time to show everything at the venue, and was open to any questions anyone had.
Andrew was so knowledgeable and passionate about the MCG and MCC itself. We arrived a few minutes late but the lovely Rosie was able to squeeze us into the next session. Highly recommend!
Worth it. So much history great guide
Very informative especially if you are a lover of cricket and AFL. You appreciate how big the MCG is.
Amazing we had Malcolm as our tour guide highly recommend. It was informative and we both learnt a lot of information about Cricket 🏏 and Australian rules football 🏉
The experience was very good and very detailed and information oriented It gave good insights into the MXG sports.
From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed. From the security guard to the ticket sale to the tour guide coordinator and to the tour guide, Paul. Paul was very knowledgeable and catered to his audience 👏 We feel Friday night trivia ready. Seriously, learning about the MCG past, present and future was special. Well done MCG tours.
A very informative tour of an iconic landmark. Volunteer guides are friendly and passionate about this stadium
An absolute must do Melbourne experience. Wonderful value for money tour with experienced volunteer tour guides who really know their stuff. Personable, informative and professional. Some great story telling about the history of this magnificent venue.
An excellent couple of hours on a guided tour around the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Front of house and behind the scenes, with some VIP areas thrown in for good measure. Tour guides are all MCC members with lots of enthusiasm, knowledge and passion for the ground and sports (cricket and football are played here as well as the Australian Sports Museum). Plenty of photo opportunities. Highly recommended for anyone interested in cricket, Aussie Rules Football or Australian sport history.
Great tour Carol our guide was excellent
A great tour of the MCG, including the pitch, changing rooms etc. Lasts around 75 minutes, which is perfect
Well worth the money we paid. Our guide was Stephen who was very knowledgeable. Covered every area of the ground and learned all about the history.
The tour guide was fantastic, had a great sense of humor and showed respect for one of our group members who was on a walker. He was enthusiastic and energetic. I give him FIVE STAR rating.
This tour is operated by MCC members and Bryan our guide was excellent. We explored the change rooms, members area, different levels of the grand stands and got to go down onto the turf near the end of the tour. I would recommend this tour for any cricket fan or Aussie rules fan.
Had a great experience going through MCG inside viewing the ground, stadium, sat in Corporate VIP box to have the luxurious view. Level 4 view of MCG was amazing then we went to the change rooms, hall of fame, library and more historical discoveries.
A really great tour from start to finish. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and made everyone feel welcome. It was well organised and gave a great insight into the history and behind-the-scenes of the MCG. Definitely worth doing if you’re in Melbourne 👍
Excellent tour & insight into the MCG. We had an excellent tour guide John who was so knowledgeable about the grounds & provided so much knowledge & insight into the grounds. It was amazing to see all the inner workings of the ground & the history the ground has been through. Highly recommend
We attended an AFL game. Everything from booking tickets, checking in, finding our seats, getting food and finding the toilet was easy. We were at the front in the sun, I forgot a hat, so bought a cap as a souvenir, there’s sunscreen stations or if they’re empty there’s Customer Service people getting around with sunscreen. There’s water fountains to fill your water bottles. Plenty of toilets for a dash to the loo at quarter/half time, very smooth operation, enter one end, leave the other. Great views of the oval from every section. Can’t fault the facility overall
Very professional. Guide Peter was great. Very informative. Great tour to do to learn about cricket and AFL football
Great tour saw the mcg like I have never before, our guide Ian was great and knowledgeable. I am at mcg during footy season and got to see behind the scenes
Tour was excellent because of the tour guide - Brian who explained everything patiently. The venue is pretty and we did not realise that so much effort goes into running it
Interesting and fun tour thru the behind the scenes area. Guide was extremely charismatic and knowledgeable. Thank you MCG for a fun afternoon!
Great experience, tour guide was very professional and knowledgeable, highly recommended. Absolutely fantastic experience
