What a wonderful place we went when Shane Warne exhibition was there and was like he was in the room.
When I was there I paid to do the stadium tour as well the man doing the tour was great a full of info the museum was very good lots of history and some interactive actives as well
Awsome displays and very knowledgeable volunteers to assist you
Awesome experience. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable. The unique exhibition items were amazing. The Shane Warne exhibition is fantastic with some unique items on display. Make sure you watch the Shane Warne hologram as it is so lifelike and give you great insights into Shane’s career.
Highly recommend the MCG TOUR & SPORTS MUSEUM Saw it all from behind the scenes, a memorable day.
Brilliant experience at the MCG Sports Museum today. Our guide, John, was ideal for this tour. He explained the range of activities at the MCG stadium and answered our questions in an entertaining manner. We were impressed with the scale of operations needed to prepare the stadium for all the sporting & other events which take place here. A very special visit for me, I would recommend it to any sports fan.
We visited the museum after an MCG tour. The museum has a great array of memorabilia including Cathy Freeman’s speed suit and the Olympic cauldron from the 1956 games. The Shane Warne exhibit also had a great array of artifacts for those cricket tragics. My 12 year old enjoyed the interactive displays too.
one of the best organized and entertaining tours we have ever completed. the amazing cricketing tour conducted by Shane Warne. we were quite impressed that when we were seated the "holograph" of Shane walked onto the stage and went through his career sent shivers down my spine. it was a most enjoyable and unbelievable time of our trip to Melbourne fantastic
A great experience for any sports fan. The tour of the MCG is worth the little bit extra it costs. Tickets are well priced. Staff were knowledgeable and helpful about the history of the ground. Visit the Warne: Treasures of a Legend exhibit before it finishes on August 9th. The items on display really make you feel connected to the great man himself.
A wonderful experience with one of a kind memorabilia. The Shane Warne exhibition was absolutely great.
A thoroughly interesting and informative tour with an outstanding tour guide, Clare. A really unique insight into this amazing stadium with its very rich history
Brilliant experience seeing the MCG from the top and the Long Room in the members area which felt like a real privilege. We had a great guide - thank you Carol - she had so many facts & figures at her fingertips it made it so interesting. Loved all the history and that the Melbourne Cricket Club and the Marylebone Cricket Club share the same logo. Highly recommend to any cricket fans, it was a terrific experience. Also visited the Warne exhibit which was interesting and touching. His kids speak about various of his sporting achievements - my nephew's favourite was the dancing stump. So great to see the actual stump there! Very well done by the MCG for one of their own.
Very knowledgeable guides. Very well organised. Loved the MCG tour. The museum was very interesting. The families loved the different activities.
Tour was excellent Guide was very interesting and informative saw so much of the mcg underground and behind the public area. Museum was vast lots to see had an interactive area for adults and kids Warne expo also very good. Grandsons found the whole tour and museum well worth the cost had lunch at The Paddock cafe overlooking the oval. Definitely recommend it there were quite a few overseas people and melbournians
Great experience and especially the fact that we were allowed in the changing rooms even though one was being used most important to the average tourist to be allowed in the rooms.
Great experience, brilliantly done and so good I see so much of the G. Barrie is a legend, cares so much, has loads of knowledge and is a brilliant ambassador!
Definitely worth it for the price paid. Situated inside the stadium, it boasts several levels of memorabilia spread over different sections dedicated to different sports. These including Australian rules football, tennis, cricket etc. Most highlighted is the special cricket section, where you can enter a 3D projected Shane Warne experience, where the late, famous cricketer comes out and gives a talk about his career with the Australian cricket team. There are also lots of interactive areas where you can try out catching, pedalling and other sports. This especially great for children. You are also given a wristband that allows you to interact with many of the displays in the museum. Overall a very enjoyable visit. I would allow for about 1 hour for a visit. This will allow you to easily see everything in the museum and fully enjoy it.
A must do iconic tour in Melbourne. The volunteer tour guide was a wealth of information and we all thoroughly enjoyed and well worth a visit when in Melbourne
Found our tour leader to be so engaging, knowledgeable and entertaining. Highly recommend the tour and try to get Nigel.
Great tour of this iconic sporting venue. Well worth it. Our guide Mark was a volunteer and so knowledgeable. So much to see and do in the museum. Well recommend for all ages
A Mecca for sports lovers set within the iconic MCG… this place is an absolute must-see if you’re passing through Melbourne
Very interactive for kids, they get to play sport, answer questions and do fun stuff! Not your typical museum that puts kids to sleep from boredom. My 7 year old son really enjoyed it and I did too!
Fantastic place for anyone interested in Australian sporting history, I would recommend allowing at least 3 hours to get the full benefit of the interactive screens that have all the information relating to each display. I would do the MCG tour after or even on another day so as to have time to see everything!
Great tour of the MCG. Tours are run by volunteers from the MCG membership (with paid staff as well I assume to help with tickets and things). Having been to an AFL game recently at the MCG it was great to tour the MCG and hear more about how it all works and the history. The MCG members have an awesome facility/club no wonder the wait list is years long.
Fabulous activity, very interesting we highly recommend. Combined with MCG tour, staff are lovely, venue amazing to see.
Interesting place to visit. Lots of history and of a lot of sports. Interactive which is good for children. Love the wrist band idea
it is well worth the visit would have to go again with more of the family it is a great place to visit and see will be going back soon
I love visiting the Sports museum,as i am such a passionate Sports lover for AFL, Cricket & Rugby Union. I get see the history of the games I love. The most memorable part is Shane Warne. It's like it's real one of Shane Warne. When in Melbourne I make sure I visit the museum.
Great family activity which would suit most people. From the sports mad to the mildly sporting interested, lots of interesting and fun activities, hands on stuff for kids. Takes a few hours to walk through but is worth the time. Food available in the cafe ‘Paddock’ to stop for lunch before or afterwards.
A fantastic sporting experience and a must for all sports enthusiasts, the tour of the grounds and then visiting the Sports Museum was a great way to spend the day. There is something for everyone and lots of sporting history to learn. The visit is suitable for all ages and was enjoyed by both Grandson and Grandfather with a 60 year age difference. I can highly recommend the experience for all sports lovers.m
We had a fantastic experience at the museum, it’s interactive and really informative (even for adults). This has to be the best museum we’ve been to in Melbourne and you can tell just how much hard work has gone in to the planning of it.
Visiting one of the oldest and largest cricket stadium in the world made it an awesome experience..the guide was very knowledgeable and when he knew we came from India he chose to point out anecdotes from the Indian team
Sporting history that seemed to focus more on AFL & cricket. While other sports covered, only minor. Shop was AFL gear focused.
The Australian sports museum tour was underwhelming to me. There were some good interactive displays but overall it just wasn't that impressive. I guess I was expecting more trophies (like at European soccer team's tour) or more jerseys/souveniers of the AFL, rugby, and cricket. The Olympic display way very good, the rest just average at best. I did get a kick out of the tour animals being decked out in gear for the upcoming AFL game although they could have dressed it up for the State of Origin game that night. We also did the MCG tour and it was 5 stars but that is a different review.
We did the MCG Tour and the Australian Sports Museum with our 12 year old grandson who plays AFL and we all enjoyed it. Both are well worth doing and interesting but we should have allowed ourselves more time after the tour to spend in the museum as there is so much to see and do.
Very informative and interactive, good fun, the staff were all very helpful and loved what they were doing . Not rushed and able to take our time Well worth a visit
Wonderful museum experience. Knowledgeable and passionate volunteers. Great value for money. A must do on your Melbourne list of things to do. Combined with the MCG tour - really interesting for all ages.
Every thing, learnt heaps and my grandson was in another world, great fun, easy to get around , games were great
This was a great tour, full of information and little interesting bits of local knowledge. Nigel the tour leader was very good with the geoup and kept it relevant and fast paced.
This is a must do tour, it was amazing to see all the history about our great stadium. Tag on the MCG tour and its a absolutely 💯 amazing experience. Cannot recommend enough and the lovley volunteers are pretty amazing. Will do again for sure.
The tour was amazing. The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. A must see when visiting Melbourne.
The MCG tour and Sports Museum was an amazing ! Our guide Graham was friendly, polite and knowledgeable and he really added to our experience. We were on holidays from Perth and it was definitely a highlight of our trip.
We never got to tour what we booked for still waiting for a call back regarding the mix up we booked the museum and got a tour of the ground did not realise we were not going through the museum until it was to late
First time at the G was worth the tour and sports museum was great the Shane Warne experience was fantastic
Very unique experience that’s not available to the general public outside of the tour. Tour guide was very knowledgeable, funny and great with the kids
Hard to get 3 tweens to like anything (🤣) but they all really enjoyed our morning here. Recommended time is 1hr which is about right, lots of really interesting things to learn and the hands on activities for the kids were great.
Australians are known for being more than a little sports mad so it's hardly a surprise that there is a national sporting museum. And Melbourne is often described as the sports capital of Australia so at the MCG you can go along to the Australian Sports Museum. It's not free nor is it particularly cheap and part of me wishes it was even larger but it is well organised and nicely laid out. There is a distinct focus on AFL and cricket but other sports get a look in too. There is a large and quite inclusive wall of fame so whatever your sport if an Australian has done well in it then their name will probably be there. There is - unsurprisingly - a gift shop on your way out. And it should be noted that if you just by a ticket to the museum you don't get any tour of the MCG - that's an extra. In terms of location there is no reason why a moderately healthy person can't walk to/from the CBD to out here as it's mostly flat.
What a fabulous tour of the MCG and Sports Museum! Fabulous walking tour of the football facilities and cricket club offerings We ran out of time But thoroughly enjoyed a bite of lunch at the U/23 restaurant/cafe Well worth the tour if you are a person with any sporting interest!!
Very good exhibits, well layed and staff were very professional. The inactive displays were great too. Highly recommended.
