I so wanted to have a great stay here as it had come recommended, however the room was a huge let down. The staff, 10/10 amazing, despite having one man on the desk to run everything on a very busy night we were met with a smile, a friendly cheerful face and effort above and beyond. Sadly, the moment we opened our room door we were disappointed. Met with a very strong smell of cigarette smoke (Cleary the last person broke the rules) the window was kept closed so the smell festered. The lights were faulty and flickered the entire time and one of the bedside lamps didn’t work at all. Serious lack of power points so struggled to charge our phones and laptop, no plates or cutlery to place our nibbles on, the curtains when closed didn’t even cover the entire window, the bath plug didn’t fit the bath (though the lovely man at the desk did find me another one), room service for two very small basic snacks took an hour and a half, the bed was dreadfully uncomfortable and couldn’t snuggle due to the hard join in the middle, the pillows gave us headaches, and the internet was so terrible it took us 3 hours to watch a 2 hour movie. The lift is a safety hazard and should be shut down. Tried to voice our concerns before leaving however the desk was unmanned and no one to be found anywhere. While I realise it is a budget motel, even basic comfort should be expected, and we have stayed in far cheaper motels that were far far better. Disappointing all round, and sadly we won’t be back, nor will we recommend ☹️

This is value for money hotel with very dated rooms and interiors. I was greeted by a warm receptionist and overall 5/5 to the entire staff. They were super helpful and attentive. My stay was pleasant and it’s good for a short term stay. They have a slightly glitchy elevator and non working WiFi. I didn’t mind the non wifi as I read that across many reviews and was mentally prepared for the inconvenience. They have a good breakfast buffet.
We needed a nearby place to stay for hospital appointments, and this was the perfect accommodation for a short stay. It had all the basic amenities we needed, and we especially appreciated the yummy breakfast and the parking space. The hotel itself is starting to show its age, particularly the carpets and the lifts, which would benefit from some refurbishment. However, this did not take away from our overall experience. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and made us feel welcome throughout our stay. Overall, it was a fantastic place to stay, and we would happily recommend it to others needing convenient accommodation near the hospital.
I stayed at the Mercure North Melbourne for a business trip during winter and, unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. I was travelling alone and needed a comfortable room with reliable Wi-Fi to work from. The hotel fell well short of expectations. For a property that advertises itself as four-star, I would rate it closer to three stars. The standard room was old, tired and in desperate need of refurbishment. The air conditioning barely worked, which made the room uncomfortable during the cold Melbourne winter. The lighting was poor, with several lights either broken or so dim that the room felt dark and dated. The bathroom was also poorly designed. The vanity was unusually low, around 20 cm lower than a normal bench, making it awkward to use. It sounds like a small issue, but after a few days it became surprisingly annoying. The biggest problem for me was the Wi-Fi. It was slow, unreliable and constantly dropped out. As I was travelling for business, this made it almost impossible to work from my room. In today's world, dependable internet should be a basic expectation, particularly for business travellers. The mattress had clearly seen better days and wasn't particularly comfortable. Even the hallway carpets were uneven in places and felt like a trip hazard. After I raised my concerns, the staff moved me to a suite. The difference was enormous. The suite was modern, spacious and much more in line with what I would expect from a Mercure hotel. If you're staying here, I'd strongly recommend requesting one of the upgraded rooms. Breakfast was excellent, with a good selection of hot and cold options that were regularly replenished. The staff were the standout. Every team member I dealt with was friendly, professional and genuinely helpful. It was clear they were handling a steady stream of complaints from other guests during my stay, yet they remained calm, courteous and did everything they could to help. They deserve recognition because many of the issues are with the ageing building, not the people working in it. Yes, the room rates are relatively affordable, but that doesn't automatically make it good value. The standard rooms simply don't deliver the quality expected of a four-star hotel. Until the property receives a major refurbishment, I would look elsewhere, especially if you're travelling for business and need a comfortable room with reliable internet.
The staff are so fantastic and deserve a product they can be proud to represent but sadly this hotel is so noisy, neglected and that it would be so difficult for the team to maintain. Every time the elevator is used it sounds like someone is dragging heavy furniture against the floor. The lighting in the room is so poor and the carpet and walls need refreshing. Housekeeping does an amazing job to get it as clean as they can but with chips and stains it's impossible to get these rooms looking decent. The food from the restaurant is really good and the coffee in the morning is fantastic. The team are so helpful and friendly. Management / owners need to lift their game.
