Erika is the best tour guide. Not only is she very knowledgable but is empathetic, witty and has a great sense of humour.

Comuna 13 was the most dangerous district in Medellin only 18 years ago. And is also the place where the first outdoor non-touristy electrical escalators in the world were installed. They were inaugurated in December of 2011 with a cost of 3,5 million dollars and was built to save more than 350 stairs in a very steep hill. Besides the escalators, Comuna 13 is also one of the biggest street art district in Latin America. Half of the neighborhood displays meaningful graffitis and you get the chance to learn all their meanings in this incredible Graffiti Tour with us. Throughout the walk in Comuna 13 we invite you to try the traditional snacks from Colombia, if you are a foodie you will love the food. Empanadas, Butifarras, Carimañolas, Aborrajado and more, all of them delicious and authentic. In our walk we visit the view point, the new pathway full of graffiti and the slide built to honor a tragedy occurred in Comuna 13. There is a lot of history to be heard at this tour.
Throughout the ride in the cable car you will see lots of houses stack on top of the other. Many of these houses were and some still are illegal settlements that belong to displaced people from rural areas as a consequence of the internal conflict. Your guide will explain the origin of the war, its effects in the current city's situation and the free housing program undertaken to help them. The whole ride is around 20 minutes, going up and down over the green mountains contrasted with all these houses and its history. After we come back to the metro station and now that you have more context about Medellin, its social system, its means of transportation we head towards the food tour section.
Colombia has over 433 different fruits, in fact we are the most diverse country per square meter regarding fruit production. For this reason you shouldn't miss out an exotic fruit tasting in Colombia and we as an added value to the Graffiti Tour, offer precisely that. We take you to a clean, non-touristy market where we can find exotic fruits that are not easily found in supermarkets in the city or pretty much anywhere else. In this stop you have the chance to taste at least 10 different fruits that are only grown in tropical countries. Different colors, shapes, tastes and smells, they all make a great experience and the perfect end of this amazing half-day tour. When we have concluded our fruit tasting we get on the car again and we start driving back to your place or anywhere else you want us to drop you off.

Graffiti tour in Comuna 13 was great. Our guide Erika was excellent. She picked us up on time from our hotel, had waters available, great insight to the community and area we were seeing, and accommodated us getting souvenirs along the way. Also, had a nice fruit tasting experience and she was prepared with gloves and wipes for us as it can get messy. Would definitely recommend this tour and Erika as your guide!
Erica was superb! Knowledgeable, friendly and tailored the tour to my interests.
Our driver Daniel was simply amazing, totally recommend!
I did a great tour around Medellin with my guide Erika, who is a marvellous person with deep background knowledge of her city and who’s very enthusiastic about not just its history but above all its present and future. I found her explanations to be just the right mix of deep insights and fun comments. And our conversations ranged from culture and history to architecture, community projects, psychology and more. It was a very enjoyable morning with a joyful person who showed me her city and helped me love it and wanting to see more. Thank you Erika ☺️
We loved our tour with Erika! She is very knowledgeable and provided great insights into the area. This was our second tour with Erika and we look forward to more!
We did the Comuna 13 and Fruit tour with Erika. She was amazing; she connected so well with our kids and I know leading a tour with three young kids is not easy! This was wonderful experience for our family. Thank you!
We had Henry as our guide and it was such a wonderful experience. Definitely would do this tour again with friends. Henry has great knowledge and history which was very helpful. Definitely recommend to do the fruit tour with them as well.
Henry did an amazing job bringing me to the food market, cable car, and C13. It was the perfect amount of time and saw a lot and learned a ton. Thanks
It was a last-minute booking but the company was very flexible. Erika is an amazing guide with deep historical knowledge and personal experience about the community. She is also a very kind person. I can warmly recommend her
Just like our coffee tour, we had a fantastic time with Sarita on the Comuna 13 tour and Cable Car. Sarita provides amazing service and a real insight into the day-to-day life of the city. We’d recommend this tour to anyone travelling to Medellin !
We booked this tour for a group of 6 friends and it was more then we expected. The tour was very authentic, interesting and very knowledgeable. And our guide Erika was fantastic! Really recommend her as a guide and this tour for everyone who wants to know and feel real Medellin Comuna 13 history.
We had an amazing day with Erika! She arrived early and was charged and ready to do! Perfect English which not speaking much Spanish was a huge bonus! We loved Comuna 13, seeing the street performers, having her explain the art on the graffiti tour, and enriching our knowledge about the people who experienced so much heartbreak and their resilience as a community! The cable car ride was a great way to see more of the areas and how some people still live and thrive. We appreciated Erika’s personal knowledge about the history of Pablo Escobar and how his life and business affected Medellín, the people and even the world. It was good to remember the past as to not repeat. The memorial she took us to was touching. The columbian people are very strong!
Sara was a wonderful guide through the neighborhood. She adjusted the tour to take us through Comuna 13 before it got overcrowded, which was very helpful since we were traveling with our 4 year old son. Sara answered all of our questions and was very knowledgeable about the regional history. She snagged us some popsicles to keep our son content, took us to slides in the neighborhood, and was very accommodating. Highly recommend!
We booked the Comuna 13, cable car, and downtown private tour with Erika. She picked us up in the morning from our accommodation in Poblado and we started out in Comuna 13 before the crowds arrived. She gave us an honest and open history of the community, and you could really hear and understand the pride in her people and their resilience. The graffiti and art that is used to ensure the past is never forgotten is a beautiful reminder of how things were in the past, and how they should be now and in the future. The community members were welcoming and friendly, the hip hop and break-dancing performances were amazing! After, we took the cable cars up the mountain and were given a further understanding of the city as it was, and as it is today. The views from up high were amazing, and we were able to see a side of the city that we would never have had the opportunity to see on our own. Erika was a wealth of knowledge in getting to understand Medellín and its people, its sociopolitical landscape, its past and its future. Finally, she took us downtown to see Botero plaza and its world-famous statues. Excitement from the eclectic mix of people and the sounds of a bustling city, with a final stop at an amazing building converted to shopping and art galleries. Was a perfect way to spend the day in Medellín thanks to our guide.
I booked the Comuna 13 + Exotic Fruit Tasting & Cable Car Ride private tour and I had Erika as my guide. Erika was great ✨ - she was so friendly and knew so much about Medellin, which provided really useful context and background for the sites we saw. The exotic fruit tasting was also a great way to finish off the tour. I had an amazing time!
Alejandro was an amazing and knowledgeable tour guide. We thoroughly enjoyed learning about and trying the exotic fruits. We also thoroughly enjoyed our and our stop at a boutique coffee shop. Overall a great experience.
I had done a comuna 13 tour before and this is the best by far! Diana was amazing. She shared a lot of history and perspective as a comuna 13 local. We even took some less touristy paths, which gave us some great insights.
The atmosphere, the entire experience was one of a kind. So grateful to have it done with Medellín Day Trips. Erika was our tour guide and was wonderful.
Erica is a wonderful guide. She is knowledgeable about the political and social history of Medellin and weaves in her personal story to create a compelling tour. During our visit she pointed out the symbols in the graffiti murals and the amazing breakdancing. A cable car ride over the comuna gave a sense of the area's geography. Our tour ended with a feast of exotic fruits. Definitely a five star experience.
We booked this tour with Medellín Day Trips before leaving the US and were AMAZED from the moment she introduced herself by Erika, one of the best tour guides we have ever encountered. She tailored the tour around our interests and made sure we saw everything we wanted to see. I had been anticipating this tour for several months, and I promise - Erika did not disappoint. Her knowledge of Medellin’s history and culture are top notch, as are her people skills. When we finished this tour, we booked two more tours with Erika before someone else was able to reserve her time. Do yourself a favor and book with Medellin Day Tours - Erika the guide and Andres the manager are A++++++.
We had an awesome private tour of Commune 13 & cable car in Medellin. We have nothing but positive comments about the tour from the communication to the professional organisation before, during & after the tour and especially our tour guide Erika who was exceptional. Erika made the tour by her knowledge & sense of humour and generously shared her personal insight into the community of Commune 13 with whom she demonstrated great rapport. The tour was flexible & responsive to our needs & we would highly recommend to anyone travelling in Medellin.
I loved Comuna 13 and loved our guide, Ms. Erica even more! She was so knowledgeable about the area and super sweet and kind. She gave us the history of each picture and the symbolism. I will definitely book tour services with her again when I come back for a visit.
The cable car/ Comuna 13 tour was amazing, leading the history seeing the culture! Our tour lady Erika was phenomenal. She provided us with the history of Medellín, showed us pictures and explained every point stop until we reach the top. We were a group of 5 so to have someone like Erika who not only came prepared for the rain and provided water. She also took that time to learn each and every one of our personalities! We loved having her apart of our group so much we booked our last tour (Atv/ Pablo Escobar tour) just because it was her. Wish we could have done more… thank you Erika for making our trip not only memorable but unforgettable 🫶🏽 Skeeter🤣(insider)
Laura was great. She picked us up from our hotel and navigated the city traffic expertly. The market tasting was great, we’d done one in Bogota too but didn’t feel there was too much of an overlap, it was amazing seeing all the massive avocados! Her knowledge and experience of Cummins 13 was excellent, we’d done were so glad were were in a small group, as it does feel a bit touristy but with her we felt low key and more able to observe than be observed. She had great knowledge of the art and history of the area and we had a ferry style rap form for us which was really fun. Going on the cable car was great, such an interesting innovation for the city. Laura was receptive and patient and I can 100% recommend
Andres and Sara were absolutely great. We loved the fruit tasting. And Sara knew everything about the history of the area. It was great. We loved the trip. I will recommend this tour to everyone who is coming to Medellin.
Laura was a fantastic guide. Very engaging, personable and informative. The experience was first class. A must do if you visit Medellín. Having a private guide to give you the history and insights was worth very penny. The fruit tasting and cable car rides were enjoyable as well.
The tour is very good, rich culture and history of the people, Erika for use is realy awesome and a good tour guide, good vibes, joyfull, informative, and best of all she is proud of medellin history, overall very good experience
We had an incredible experience with our tour guide, Ericka! She was funny, sweet, and so informative throughout the entire tour. Ericka made everyone feel comfortable and kept the energy up with her great sense of humor and engaging personality. She worked so well with the group, making sure everyone was included and had a great time. We highly recommend her to anyone looking for an amazing tour experience — thank you, Ericka!
Erika was a total gem! She catered the content and the pace beautifully for our three young kids - everyone felt like they learned and experienced so much. And we were grateful for the ease of it all, especially with an air conditioned car on a hot day.
Erika was a perfect tour guide. Incredibly knowledgeable and made the tour a great experience for ages 10-50. She was also very flexible as we changed a few things last minute based on what we wanted to see. Thank you!!!
We had an incredible tour with Esoban! He was an amazing guide—knowledgeable, fun, and made the experience truly memorable. He took us to Comuna 13, where we got to explore the vibrant art and shopping district, as well as visit a local fruit market, which was an absolute treat. The flavors were incredible! The cable car ride was another highlight, offering stunning views and a unique perspective of the area. Esoban’s insights and storytelling really brought everything to life, making the tour even more special. We absolutely loved him as a guide and highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a fun and informative experience!
Tour guide was amazing. Very fun trip to see all the great sights of Medellin. Loved the market. Esteban is a great guide. Highly suggest.
My husband fell sick and I ended up going on a fantastically guided tour with Daniel alone. Daniel was young, energetic, polite and took good care of me. Daniel first took me to the exact site when Pablo Escobar had his last moments. We then took the Cable Car and the construction history of Comuna 13 was explained during the ride. It was unreal to see the massiveness of the place, and how life goes on and so different than where I came from. Apparently, Medellin with a population of 1/4 of Bogota has a more developed public transportation system. Bravo! Walking through Comuna 13 felt a bit strange, as now it has become a popular tourist spot (everything is safe and polished), and only I wish if I could walk through it safely as it is now, 30 yrs ago to feel the authenticity! We finished our tour in Medellin Downtown, where I could see the homeless, street performers, "working ladies", Botero's provocative bronze statues, policemen arresting pick-pocketers, even spoke with a couple young policemen, and the very impressive National Gallery (a must see)! The tour was diverse and interesting. This was my third tour with MedellinDay Trips, and I was very satisfied with the arrangement, communications, and the professional guides (like Daniel whose English was also excellent) we had.
Our guide, Sara, was incredibly knowledgeable and eager to share Medellin’s complex and painful history and gave context to and allowed us to appreciate better our visit to communa 13. The very heavy traffic was an unfortunate, yet, as we understand it, a common place occurrence.
Our tour with Daniel was fabulous and well worth it. He was attentive, clear and knowledgeable and by the end of our time together we had learned so much especially about the unique transport system of Comuna 23 and how it has uplifted the lives of the inhabitants. Also much about the background of the years of violence and unrest in Colombia. The generous fruit tasting sweetened the whole experience. Would highly recommend this tour.
The views and amazing art work were amazing! Henry our guide was very knowledgeable and explained the story behind Comuna 13. What a transformation from such a sad story.
Daniel was an amazing guide who shared his knowledge of Medellin and Communa 13 with us. He was friendly and even helped us take lots of photos. We had a great time with Daniel and highly recommend this tour.
We had an amazing afternoon exploring Comuna 13 with Laura. She was incredibly engaging, kind, and full of information on just about every question we had. I could not recommend Laura more—she is a gem! The history, the sites were a great intro to Medellin, and the fruit tasting was WAY more than we expected. It was well beyond the standard “exotic” fruits you’d expect. Learned so much. Highly recommend!!
We had two guided trips, one to Comuna13 and one downtown city tour. Both were excellent .our guide for both was Erika who was amazing . She made our visit to Medellín a fantastic experience. Erika is friendly has a great sense of humour and an encyclopedic knowledge and love of her native city . She gave us the whole history of the city explaining the politics past and present . Her explanation of the underlying message of the graffiti and fantastic murals was fascinating. Erika was simply exceptional . Thank you for amazing trips.
Laura was an excellent guide! We had a lot of fun! We would highly recommend her for your tour. Very informative. Also an excellent driver in this busy city.
The tour was amazing and Laura was a wonderful tour guide. Laura was interesting and gave us lots of details about the history of the country and the comunas and was helpful in finding souvenirs and answered all of our questions. Our favorite part was the fruit tasting, Laura picked amazing choices. The cable car was also very interesting. This tour covered three things on our 'must do' list Medellin. Please tell Laura thank you!
Erika was the best tour guide in Colombia! She is super kind, knowledgeable and took really good care of my family! She was excellent!! I highly recommend doing this tour which was super fun and if you can ask for Erika - do it!
It was a great Communa 13 tour, we started early and we were happy that we did, Laura is our guide today and she is very knowledgeable to the area, we definitely learned a lot of information from her. Laura is also kind to wait for us when my husband need to rest a bit, we really appreciate it. We also did the food tasting and the Gondola ride! Overall it was a great experienced! Highly recommend.
My family of four took the Communa 13/Cable Car/Exotic Fruit tour, it was great! Our guide, Laura, was wonderful and made the tour the best. Laura was very informative, sweet, and great with the kids. Laura had great recommendations and spoke perfect english. We highly recommend the tour, it was very organized and included history of the area, neighborhoods, great views, and very cool artwork. Everyone loved the extra touch on the tour including fruit popsicles, slides, 3D art, and more! The fruit tasting was also a hit, many we never had even heard of before. Thanks Laura!
We had a wonderful experience in this tour. ERIKA is a great guide, Very professional and knowledgeable. She made us very comfortable and tried several local delicacies. I strongly recommend this tour and Erika guide to anyone visiting Medellin. Thank you Erika.
We had Daniel (Danny) as our guide for a private Comuna 13 tour. (We were two people). The setup and communication with MedellinDayTrips was quick and easy and Daniel arrived out our place exactly on time. The booking and pickup was seamless. Daniel's English is perfect and he was open to moving at our pace and offering options of things to do/experience in Comuna 13. Overall, it felt like we were walking around with a knowledgeable local friend rather than a robotic tour guide.
We had an incredible Graffiti, Cable Car & City Tour with Erika. This was our second Medellin visit using Medellin Day Trips and having Erika as our guide. We arranged our travel days to make sure Erika was available for us. We were traveling with my 80+ year old mother and her best friend. We knew that Erika would be the perfect fit to make sure we all had an amazing tour. Erika was so kind and accommodating. She made sure we went at a slower pace and took plenty of breaks without missing out on any of the tour. Erika never disappoints. Whenever you take a tour with Erika it’s like you’re traveling with a friend. We have had tours in more than 40 countries. Erika is one of the very best guides we’ve encountered. We will always ask for Erika whenever we’re visiting Medellin.
We had Sara as our tour guide and she was incrediable . She was extremely knowledgeable about all the history and took excellent care of us. She gave us some additional tips after the tour and couldn’t have walked away from that tour more happy
Erika was an amazing guide! She was so knowledgeable and shared the history of Communa 13 to really educate us. She made it interesting and age appropriate for our children as well, and introduced them to tastes of Colombia. We could not have asked for a better guide in Medellin!
