Private Half Day Medellin Tour: Meet Fernando Botero´s 23 Statues

Yesterday I had an amazing private tour of Medellín with David, and it was the perfect experience for me as a solo traveler. Seeing the city through his eyes—especially hearing about Medellín’s and Colombia’s transformation—added so much depth and meaning to the day. His pride for his people and his city is infectious yet he never avoids the difficulties and challenges of the city’s past or present. He’s an honest ambassador! David has a natural ease and humor that is both delightful and disarming. He makes you feel completely at ease while still following your lead and pace. He gave me all the time I needed in each museum and even brought me to the Museum of Memory, which wasn’t on my list but turned out to be one of the most powerful stops. We also enjoyed a delicious, inexpensive local lunch that made the day feel even more authentic. David took great care of me while still letting me explore on my own terms. I highly recommend City Medellín Services and especially David for a thoughtful, personal way to experience this beautiful city.

The tour was amazing . It was great to get out of the city and into the mountains. I have never seen a beautiful garden like the one we toured.aAlex was a great tour guide , his english was the best of any other tours we have done. I added pictuers but they do not do the place justice. It is a place you need to see with your own eyes. I could have stayed all day looking at the garden. Alex was so great that i will be looking to do another tour with him in the future.

We had such an amazing tour with Joe. We almost never do tours, often finding them boring. Joe is the opposite of boring. He is full of incredible stories about his time growing up in Medellin, providing a backdrop for the cartel history of the city itself. Joe is remarkably kind and generous with his time. His English is flawless. We consider Joe to be our amigo now. Absolutely wonderful!

David is the most careful and most informative guide to the complicated neighborhood of Comuna 13. His knowledge - not only of the hillside community itself, but all of Medellín - helped us understand what we were seeing. David began the tour with an amazing gondola from which we could see all of Medellín below us. Again this overview helped us appreciate the geography and social status in ways we never could have imagined.

The tour was great thanks to the guide Joe. He took us to see the Botero statutes and then we went a in the palace at the park next to it and he explained very nicely the murals and then we went to the roof to see the skyline of Medellin with him explaining all the different neighborhoods and buildings, etc. then we drove to the cable cars to ride on them and get profound explanations about the different communities that live and struggle in those communities. Afterwards, he drove us to Comuna 13 where we went all the way up and received a through explanation of what happened there and in the surrounding hills. We rode the escalators and then went done. Several times, we stopped to go to the bathrooms and to have something to eat. Finally, he took me to a drugstore to get a knee support since I had hurt my left knee a few days before. Joe is a profound and knowledgeable Medellin individual who brings out and shares everything he knows about his beloved native city. He goes beyond the call of duty.

Luis Alberto Gomez, my guide, was knowledgeable, kind, and engaging. I had a tight schedule, and he brought me to some of the highlights of Medellin. A highlight was the Plaza Botero and galleries and food stops near by.

Couldn't have asked for anything better. Daniel is knowledgeable, interesting and a wonderful person to have spent a fabulous afternoon with learning about a special city that he loves. Thank you again Daniel and Viator!

The city tour with David was an incredible experience. He was very flexible with our time and took us to the spots we have never seen before. David was very kind, courteous and knowledgeable of every place we went. What made this tour great was David’s experience and flexibility for us, if we were tired he would find a small place to enjoy a beer or water and brought us to try Colombian style smoothies which were refreshing and fantastic!

Alberto was an excellent tour guide. He was both entertaining and knowledgeable. We learned so much about Medellin - the history and politics! His kindness toward others was evident in everyone he met. We loved our tour!

Excellent service Victor Manuel a super friendly attentive young men and a very good guide, we are very grateful to him, Victor show up early, car was nice and clean , he bring us cold bottles of water and some extras charger to charge our cellphones. A extra 5 plus for his talent as a photographer he took some great photos. The tour was very informative I recommend them 100%, thanks for this service, we had a great time!

Both Esteban and Fabio did an amazing job. The places we went and the sites we saw were well worth the price. And they were terrific guides. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

My wife and I had an amazing time with Estaban on our Medellin tour! What a genuinely great guy, he knew the city real well, speaks great English and showed us some really cool spots to take pictures and to try some authentic and unique eats and drinks! We did the morning tour which is recommended to avoid the afternoon traffic. We went to the downtown area first, which beware is very raw and gritty, but is also a place where you can really feel the energy and pulse of the city. We saw the art sculptures at Botero square and the beautiful architecture within the Palacio Nacional (now converted into a sneaker mall!) We tried some tequenos and then hopped over to La Comuna 13 to see a different part of the city and experience the cool street art, climb the electronic steps to get a glimpse of the city landscape from the top. Once up there, Esteban took us a cool family run joint that served us a refreshing glass of avocado juice (you have to try it!). As we headed down, my wife decided to try the Slingshot ride that's there along the way. What an adrenaline rush! We ended the half day enjoying some Salchipappas (a mix of sausage and potatoes) and micheladas by the steps where we watched street performers and just people watched in general.

Esteban was an amazing guide!! Very punctual, courteous, very knowledgeable, entertaining and fun!! Not 5 stars, 5+!

David was a fantastic guide that showed me sides of the city that I wouldn't have been exposed to otherwise. Definitely a highlight of the trip. Felt like an afternoon hanging with a buddy. Highly recommend!

Had a great tour with Jorge Esteban. Learn so much about the city and got to see so many places with great views and very knowledgeable about the history of the city along with the culture. And he speaks English very well like a New Yorker. Because I lived there and this is no confusion when talking with him. It was like hanging with a family member easy to talk with and get good answers. Will recommend this tour and will take it again when I go back to visit.

Took a tour of Medellin w my guide Esteban. Saw some nice sites. He is very knowledgeable and speaks good english which was helpful. Would recommend going to the tour early so you don’t hit afternoon traffic moving around the city.

Sergio was very accommodating, due to my schedule and the places I had visited before he agreed on including the visit to pueblo Paisa as I had already been to comuna 13. He was punctual and took me to my hotel on time for me to do my checkout and head to the airport.

Visited Medellin for the first time and decided to take a this private tour of the city. Didn’t really know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. David was the perfect guide as he picked us up at a prearranged time from our hotel and then took us on a remarkable tour of the city. He was very knowledgeable and competent. Provide us with a great perspective and also was kind enough to help us locate some items that we needed during our stay. Would highly recommend.

Esteban was an awesome tour guide. Firstly, he was super accommodating with the time and making sure we were comfortable in the van. Secondly his personal story makes him a perfect ambassador for Colombia and Medellin specifically. He had a deep knowledge of Medellin culture and showed us some hidden gems of the city. Our guide Sergio was very nice. His car was spotless and his English was close to perfect. He told us what we would see at the beginning then showed it to us. He was very knowledgeable and informed and told us about early history and more recent events. We rode the cable car, visited Community 13 and Botero Park. It was very nice and friendly afternoon. Highly recommend.
