To begin with, Vanessa with Andes Adventure Travels, contacted me a week prior and updated me leading up to the trip, which I really appreciated. My friend and I had a fun time on this tour with Diego. He was really friendly and considerate. It rained quite a bit, so he changed the order of some of the activities so we wouldn’t get wet and we’d have good views of the city. Don’t do this on a full stomach, it’s a lot of different foods to try haha. And I really loved the views!

Itinerary
1) After being picked up in a comfortable and private transportation, we'll start driving up the Andes mountains, where we start seeing the city from a higher point every time, just expanding in front of our eyes, accompanied by the Andes mountain range like it's cuddling Medellín. Our first stop is the beautiful "Mirador Las Palmas", a very traditional viewpoint loved by the locals, they come here any time of the day just to relax and enjoy the view, at night it's even more beautiful, where we can see all the lights just crawling up to the peak of the mountains.
Our second, going higher up the mountain, is "Zarzal Bar" typical rest stop, one of the most famous "Miradores" of the city, where we get to see Medellín and all its surroundings from the highest part of the city, locals love to come here and hang out, with their couples, family and friends. We'll have our traditional and delicious "CHOCOLATE WITH CHEESE", In this traditional Colombian treat, a piece of mild, fresh cheese is paired with a hot and delicious dark chocolate. The cheese and chocolate are typically served side by side or layered together. The contrast between the creamy, slightly salty cheese and the sweet chocolate creates a unique flavor experience that many Colombians love!! We''ll have also "PATACONES CON HOGAO", is a Colombian dish that combines two beloved elements of Colombian cuisine: patacones and Hoga'o (Green plantains with toppings).
3) After Zarzal, we'll drive to our second stop, the most populated city of Colombia, Sabaneta, we'll drive through its local streets and visit its beautiful colorful park, we'll be greeted by the delightful blend of natural beauty and urban charm. The park offers a tranquil escape where friendly locals love sitting and chatting, admiring vibrant flowers, plants and trees, and relax by the soothing fountain, here, we'll enjoy some delicious "BUÑUELOS", a cherished Colombian treat that you'll find all year, but particularly around Christmas time, shaped into small balls and fried until golden brown and crispy on the outside, while remaining soft and fluffy on the inside. We'll also try here our delicious "AREPA DE CHOCOLO", enjoying like a real local, just sitting and observing the magical vibe of the city. Can't miss the "PAN DE QUESO", known as one of the best breads in the world!! You'll find out why we're so proud of this small, delicious and flavorful bread.
We'll also try the "BUTIFARRA", holds a special place in the country's culinary scene, is a delicious, traditional, small and flavorful sousage, made from seasoned ground pork, grilled with seasoning and a little spice, simply perfect. We can't miss a shot of our most traditional drinks and a typical bar, "AGUARDIENTE ANTIOQUEÑO & RUM", a liquorish drink with an essence of anis flavored tones, it's the favorite drink of our region, perfect for exalting Colombians passion for gathering up, dancing and partying. Our next snack, is one of our most famous desserts, we'll have the crunchy and flavorful "OBLEA", a beloved Colombian dessert that have been enjoyed for generations on different regions. These thin, crispy wafers are made from a delicious batter consisting of wheat flour and cornstarch. PD: We could change some tastings depending on the day or dietary restrictions of our customers.
3) Our third stop would be the magical and most famous local restaurant in Sabaneta called "THE EIGHT WONDER", just a few minutes away from the main square, high above in the mountains, this restaurant offers a vantage point to witness the city's nocturnal transformation. We'll have some delicious "EMPANADAS", your senses will be treated to the spectacle of Medellín's magical scenery and shimmering skyline below. The atmosphere is filled with a good vibe and Colombian music, making it an ideal setting for a unforgettable ending.

Juan Carlos gave us a great tour. Couldn’t be better.
A great tour to see a different side of the city while being taught about each type of food. Diego was very informative guide and he inriched each visit to the locations included.
We enjoyed our half day food tour with Diego. Diego was a good guide. He was knowledgeable and friendly. We enjoyed talking with him about life in Columbia. The views were spectacular from both restaurants that we stopped at El Zarzal and The Eighth Wonder. It was fun trying a variety of local street food with a guide who could explain a bit about the traditions and history.
Everything was perfect! Juan Carlos was a perfect match for us (2 US 30-year-old males). This was our 1st full day in Medelin. Not only were the food and tour amazing, but he also made recommendations where to venture out on our own and fun places to watch FIFA and Columbia. Highly recommend this tour and hope you're lucky enough to be paired with Juan Carlos.
Our driver was courteous and knowledgeable. The tour took us all around Medellin and we ate at different local restaurants. Excellent introduction to local food. The timing was perfect. Highly recommend.
This was an amazing experience! Juan Carlos is so friendly and was so knowledgeable. He answered all of our questions! The food was amazing. The views were breathtaking! This is a must!!
What an incredible experience, don’t think twice on booking this tour, perfect mix of food tour and viewpoints of the city, Medellín is magical, but more magical it’s sitting down and looking at the mountains, landscapes, the greenery in every corner, immersed in a jungle, a city hidden in a valley, and you can only experience thi from a high point of a mountain and these guys know where to take you, every spot was unique, even Sabaneta City, Luisa our wonderful guide explained every tasting we had, all amazing, we were already full at the 5th, that we were worried about the next 5-6 tastings, but we wanted to try them all, afortunatelly we did! Very well recommended!!"
If you want to understand the history of Colombia and have fun doing it, Juan Carlos is your guide. We did two private tours with Juan Carlos in February - Dark History and a Food Tour. The first he gave a history-focused and balanced account of the narco period of Medellin's history which gave me a new appreciation for the city. Tons of interesting stops, the highlight being an escobar museum in a local neighborhood. Then on the food tour (which was fun in itself), at our request he gave us another amazing history of the country's internal conflict and social and economic resurgence, the people involved and how different perspectives shape differing opinions in Colombia. His English was very very good and he was gracious at sharing about his own life and perspective. We felt like we understood and appreciated Colombia better after his tours highly recommended.
This tour combines food tasting with panoramic views of Medellin and the surrounding area. Diego was our guide and proved to be very knowledgeable and personable. The food we tasted was authentic to the area and covered a lot of ground. One piece of advice: Be careful not to eat too much early in the tour to save room for later. We enjoyed the food along with Diego's insights into the culture and history of Medellin. We highly recommend the tour.
Incredible tour! Beautiful views. Tour guide was super knowledgeable and friendly. Really fun seeing so many different neighborhoods and trying do much food! Only down side, we didn't see a view point with a big flower like the advertisment.
My husband and I went on this tour with our friend. Our guide Laura picked us up at our hotel and took us to several different places. We tried hot chocolate with cheese on the bottom, empanadas, local desserts, and several other typical foods. We had a great time learning about the history, culture, and food of the city. Make sure you’re hungry before heading out on this adventure!
It was nice getting to try the different snacks and beverages typical for the area. The views were amazing! Nikolai was great!
We took this tour since we wanted to visit some viewpoints around Medellin, we heard this city has crazy scenery and beautiful mountains, and we really wanted to explore the food culture as well. We were blown away, the viewpoints were amazing, you can really absorb how big the city is from the different sites. Our guide Diego was friendly and knowledgeable, it was like taking a tour with an old friend. The food was incredible, so many flavors!!! the patacones, the chocolate with cheese, the arepa de Choclo, the buñuelo and oblea were our favorite, although all the other bites were delicious, Colombia really has a diverse and fantastic gastronomy, the shot of Aguardiente was the highlight in a little local and colorful tavern, we even took a bottle for the night, we had so much food we didn’t even had to eat dinner. Very fun and completely recommended!!
We enjoyed our trip immensely. Even though we had a down pour of rain, our guide Laura still gave us a great tour of the city views. Laura was knowledgeable and friendly. We absolutely enjoyed having Laura as our guide. We took the evening trip as we wanted to see the city lights. I would highly recommend this tour. The food we ate was delicious.
The food was very underwhelming, past food tours provided more substantial offerings that would suffice as dinner. The last stop for empanadas we had to request, our guide was not going to provide, he advise location was closed. Tour did not offer a good value at $75US per person.
Diego took us to the best view point in Medellin. I still think about the hot Chocolate with cheese, that was super duper Gucci Yummy 😋 The whole trip was amazing! Daniel was making sure that we were having the best experience.
Diego our guide very attentive, we really liked the activity, the food and especially the views. Although it rained we could enjoy the view of The Eighth Wonder.
Beautiful experience that allows you to visit the panoramic points of the city while eating great typical food! Carlos was a great guide, and it was a lot of fun to get around the city in the evening with this solution
La pasamos súper, conocimos mucho de los lugares fue muy personalizado nuestro tours, realmente lo recomiendo.
The good tour was we visited the Zarzal restaurant, with a spectacular view, we had chocolate with cheese, and two other very delicious things. The people of Sabaneta ate some delicious buñuelos la oblea and another sweet. After there we climbed a hill and saw the landscape. The very nice boy.
