We had a great experience on our Guatapé excursion! Our tour guide, Erika, picked us up right on time and was warm and welcoming from the very beginning. She gave us great insight into Guatapé, El Peñol Rock, and the surrounding areas, and we were especially impressed by her knowledge of the local history. Erika made the entire experience informative, enjoyable, and memorable. We would definitely recommend this tour!

Itinerary
After picking you up we start heading east of the state. 40 minutes later we arrive into the ATV site, where our team is expecting us with the quadbikes and equipment ready for us. This ride with beautiful scenery and great ATVs will be the best start to this amazing day. The ride lasts 2 hours, enough to appreciate the outstanding scenery as well as having a quick adrenaline-rush. First of all, we give you all the instructions on how to properly ride ATVs so we can make it the safest way. Then we provide you with the equipment: A helmet and body protection. Depending on your skills we choose routes that suit better your expectations and experience. After everything is set we're ready to start our ATV tour. We always provide two guides, one in the front to lead and the other in the back following. During the ride there are sections where we can speed up and where we need our skills to go through some natural obstacles. Adrenaline, nature and great pics is all this about.
The drive from the fruits to the rock is around 35 minutes but is full of beautiful sceneries of kale plantations, onion, sugar cane, coffee, tomatoes and hundreds of mountains silhouettes. As we drive we start telling you all the history of the rock: components, owners, when was it climbed up and more interesting facts. Once we get there you get the chance to climb up it. It’s 749 steps and 50 minutes approximately to go up and down. Once you reach the top, you can stay up there for as long as you wish as you witness one of the most beautiful views you have ever seen. This is not only our opinion but that of thousands of tourists we have taken there. At the top there are several shops where you can buy water, beer and many other items and sit down to appreciate the view of the lake, tiny islands and country houses. Whenever you feel ready to start going down we'll be ready waiting for you to continue our adventure to one of the most colorful towns in the country: Guatape town.
**Lunch in Guatapé (at your own expense)** Guatapé offers a wonderful variety of restaurants to suit different tastes. Feel free to choose your favorite spot, or let us recommend a great local restaurant. Either way, you're in for a delicious dining experience!
The drive to Guatape from the rock is only 10 to 15 minutes. At this town we take a fully narrated walking tour through the town's landmarks such as the church, main square, remembrance street, Zocalos Square and more. Once the walking tour has concluded we take you to the best restaurant in town to have a traditional delicious lunch (not included in the tour) where you have more than 20 different options to try the local cuisine accompanied of a cold sangria or a craft beer. After we finish our lunch and walking tour in this beautiful Guatape town we head back to Medellin in our comfortable private car.

Sebas (our guide) was absolutely incredible! We had a phenomenal time going up the piedra, ATVs, and visiting the Guatape town. Everything went super smoothly.
This activity was so much fun, and our tour guide Erika was the best tour guide we’ve ever had. She was SO accommodating!!
We had the best day on this tour. Laura took us around the key sites and was really knowledgeable. The quad biking was so much fun.
Our tour guide was amazing and everything was organized flawlessly. We got to Guatapé early to beat the crowd and the atvs were phenomenal!
We started our tour with our wonderful, caring, and patient tour guide, Alejo. He always looked after all of us and we’re a family of 7. Alejo spoke English very well and was always respectful and knowledgeable. Our tour consisted of a stop to taste exotic fruits, that he patiently cut up and explained to us, including their names, region they’re from, and differences between the Colombian version of the fruit and the general one we always see in the market. After, we went to El Peñol where he went with the rest of the family to the top. I couldn’t complete the climb as I started to have knee pain, but Alejo was so kind to keep me company and make sure I was okay with going down, before climbing back up again by himself. To finalize our tour we rode ATVs through the mountains which was awesome 😜. Despite a packed day, our tour with Alejo never felt rushed. Excellent Job Alejo !! On behalf of my family we thank you for making our trip to Guatape unforgettable. Keep up the good work! 👏
Great combination. Highly recommend. The team were brilliant and we felt so looked after and they explained everything. Would do again.
Highlight of our trip, our tour guide Juan was very knowledgeable of the area and all of the best places to go. He was friendly and patient and made the trip a blast for the whole family
Sarah was our guide she is super funny and knowledgeable and spoke great English. We learned a lot and had a lot of fun. If it was for Sarah it wouldn't be as fun. Sarah is the best in the business it felt like she was the major of guatape everyone knew her. 5 stars
Did this tour with Andres as our tour guide and had a great experience. We comfortably fit 5 people in the car, ATVs were fun as well as exploring the city of Guatapé. We asked to get coffee on the way and Andres took us to a local coffee spot that was amazing. All in all a great tour that I will recommend to my friends who visit
Andres is the best! Had a great time with the ATVs and the landscape was beautiful. Guatapé was a great little town to visit and walk around before sunset. The rock was fun to experience climbing up with a great view. Thanks again Andres!
Sarah went above and beyond to show us the different locations and educated us on the history of Guatape and Medellin. I would highly recommend this tour to have a fun day during your travels.
Had an absolute blast with Laura. First went to ATVs with Sebastian and saw such scenic views while going through the mountain. We then went to a fruit stand and tried maybe 10 fruits I’ve never seen before with a huge variety in flavors (sour to sweet). We made our way to the Rock and had perfect weather and environment for amazing views, then headed to Guatape and visited the beautiful town. Laura was exactly the tour guide we’ve been waiting for in Medellin. Would highly recommend this excursion.
Erika is so knowledgeable about everything from Guatape to the history of Columbia in general. We were all so impressed. I’ve been on tours around the world and this was definitely the best!
What can I say? On top of Guatape being gorgeous, our tour guide Laura was also an absolute gem. Extremely personable and knowledgable, she was a great companion to have as we explored brand new places (a plus for us was that she spoke English since our Spanish isn't amazing). We were able to try some local fruits, take beautiful photos while riding during a guided ATV tour in Guarne (the guide even filmed us while riding!), climb tirelessly up La Piedra, and got to kickback and relax while enjoying a meal and drink in Guatape + got a tour of Guatape and got to learn some history about the area. We didn't end up going back to Medellin and decided to stay in Guatape, and Laura graciously drove us to our accommodations. Highly recommend and no regrets!
One of the best experiences you can have in Medellin. Daniel was very knowledgeable about every location we visited. Gave great advice at Guatape. Can't wait to come back.
First of all shout out to dude who runs MedellinDayTrips. He was so easy to book the trip with and very accommodating. They didn't have availability for the Comuna 13 tour and he put me in touch with another company. All around great service from them. I had an absolute blast on the tour. I had Daniel as a tour guide and he was great. He communicated the before and through out the trip very well. I loved that I got picked up right outside of my AirBnb no trying to meet up with some random dude at a bus stop. I had originally booked a paragliding tour as well but Daniel was very understanding in my desire to cancel it. Daniel did a great job as a guide. He had a lot of knowledge about Guatape and shared accordingly. The nice part about the private tour is you get to stay as long or as little as you'd like in one area. The ATV's were amazing, the tour guide asked if I wanted a scenic route or something more extreme. I went with extreme and came out bathed in mud, that was super fun. We were able to rent some jet skis on the lake and getting lost out there was amazing! Stopped at a local bar to enjoy a world cup game. Daniel was super accommodating and flexible. Would recommend MedellinDayTrips they have excelent service.
Hi ! Erika is AMAZING!!! Our tour was fantastic from start to finish. She is an incredible person and is very knowledgeable about the history of Colombia. I am so grateful that she was our guide. Erika made us feel like family. We will absolutely be back to visit and we will always request Erika as our guide and you should do the same !
Alejo was our tour guide for the full day. He is fluent in English and Spanish and is very knowledgeable. He picked us up at the hotel and we headed to our first stop which was to ride ATVs near town of Guarne. We rode ATVs through the mountain and forest terrain with amazing views of the valley. The señorita who was our ATV guide knew all the best photo ops along the way and took a lot of great pics and videos of us. After riding ATVs, Alejo took us to a local market to try lots of exotic Colombian fruits. He did a great job explaining all the different varieties of fruits and we had a chance to try all of them. After the market we drove to Guatapé and climbed 720 steps of El Peñol. After climbing the rock, we had a lunch at the town of Guatapé and ordered Bandeja Paisa for lunch which is a must-try in Medellin. After that, we walked around the town and stopped by at a few local stores with unique and good quality souvenirs.
This was an amazing tour and I highly recommend booking excursions if your visiting Medellin Columbia.
Just wanted to say thank you! Sara is the best guide ever! We had such a great time. She is fun, great photographer, patient, respectful, responsible, and speaks an amazing English!! Also, ATV place was amazing! Andreas was so responsible, respectful, and fun! Great views:) Thank you!!
Henry was the best tour guide you could ask for. Perfect English so there’s no speaking barrier. He has tremendous knowledge of the history here in Colombia and educated us. He was a really fun time and I couldn’t recommend him more. If you want to enjoy your time with this tour or any other tour, Henry is your man. Thanks again guys. Me and my friends had a blast.
Our experience on the ATV and Guatape tour was easily the highlight of our trip to Medellin. During the ATV tour we experienced the farming/countryside area outside the city and the views were breathtaking. It was a fun ride and we got to stop for pictures along the way, which our guide helped us with anytime we needed. Our guide taking us to el peñol and Guatape, Diego, was so personable, we had a wonderful time with him. He explained to us history, the culture, and shared personal stories. The views from el peñol were spectacular, and Diego gave us a guided tour of Guatape, where we also stopped for lunch. On the way back, we had an exotic fruit tasting at a real Colombia marketplace where farmers sell their produce to people and restaurants. Everything about the day was perfect.
This tour was by far our favorite part of our trip and was truly an unforgettable experience! Our group consisted of six men and women in our late 20's, and we selected the ATV & Guatapé tour. We booked our trip the night before, which was a seamless and pleasant experience due to Andres's, (our tour guide) responsiveness and assistance throughout the booking process - answering all of our questions and helping us craft a custom trip. Not to mention he speaks perfect english which made the process that much easier! Our day started with Andres picking us up at the door of our Airbnb after accommodating our schedules and finding a van suitable for our group. Along the ride, Andres shared a wealth of knowledge around current events in Medellin, Colombian history, personal anecdotes from his childhood, and just made the drive so enjoyable with his friendly conversation. After about an hour drive, we arrived at the ATV location where Andres took care of everything once again and got us out on the ATV's in a matter of minutes. The ATV tour was so much fun as we sped through the scenic hills of neighboring farms with spectacular views of the surrounding valley, where Andres even put his photography skills to use, capturing videos and pictures of our group. After an hour and a half of riding, we returned to the ATV camp where we grabbed beers and snacks (and some of Andres's favorite local treats) before heading to Guatapé - there's also a great restaurant offering lunch if you have time to stop for fresh fish! Along the ride to Guatapé, Andres brought us out to a fantastic restaurant for lunch where he suggested authentic dishes and helped us order, as our Spanish is quite lacking. After lunch, Andres shared a comprehensive history of how Guatapé came to be, which was really interesting and informative. Once we got to Guatapé, we bought tickets for around $6 each, and hiked up to the top for an unforgettable view. After the hike, Andres toured us around the neighboring village which was such a cool town featuring amazing Zocalo artwork all over the buildings and homes. So many picturesque moments! Andres then brought us back to our Airbnb, even in time to make our dinner reservation! I cannot say enough what a wonderful experience this was and what a tremendous person Andres is. He truly made this an unforgettable experience with his knowledge, helpfulness, friendship. I highly recommend any of his tours to groups of all ages as you will have a blast and experience the true beauty and authenticity that Colombia has to offer.
This was a great tour from the beginning. Diego was professional and very knowledgeable from the time he picked us up. He give us many tips about living in Colombia and places to visit. We went about 45 minutes to the ATV place. I have been ATVing in many different countries and places but this by far has been the most amazing time I’ve ever had. We went to the mountains and we rode through the terrain and we even went in some water. Make sure you bring clothes that you don’t like because it will get very dusty and maybe even a little wet with your shoes. The tour guide just Jesenia was also amazing she was very nice and she made sure that we knew how to ride the ATV and she always made sure to check on us. She took us to many places to take pictures and we got to see a lot of the beautiful mountain views and we also got to ride through many different hills which is very very fun. Jesenia was very nice and very good at what she does. She is also a good camera woman and knows a lot of good places.Diego took his driving to Guatape after this. Diego was very flexible he catered the tour to our every need. We walked through the amazing island and saw all the beautiful sites and he even took us to a place that had authentic Colombian food. He was very very knowledgeable about all the history. He then took us to the Guatape rock he waited for us while we climbed the rock in and then we were able to see the beautiful views. Diego was by far the most professional and knowledgeable tour guide and he even spoke good English to Americans that knew barely any Spanish.
We loved the experience. Our guide Ericka, very professional. Ericka made us feel like family and pleased us in everything. In addition, throughout the tour we were told about the history of Colombia. The ATV Tour... the best we've ever done. We'd deal it again. Eduardo 🇲🇽And Carola 🇵🇷
