This tour was a great see some iconic attractions in Medellin. Our guide Erika made the experience even better with her sense of humor and keeping the tour entertaining and informative at the same time. I'm also something of a coffee conisur after doing this tour as well😁

Our Graffiti Tour in the Comuna 13 it's definitely a must do activity when you travel to Medellin. The violent past, the beautiful present and the promising future of this district makes it a magical place and an unforgettable experience. The street art throughout the whole neighborhood makes it more remarkable knowing that most of them have a special meaning related to its history. Comuna 13 is the place where the first outdoor electrical escalators in the world were installed. The escalators had a cost of 3,5 million USD and were built to save more than 350 stairs in a very steep hill. Besides the escalators that became one the biggest touristic attractions, Comuna 13 is also one of the biggest street art district in Colombia. Half of the neighborhood displays meaningful graffiti and you get the chance to learn all their meanings at this incredible tour. The history, the street art and the progress in this neighborhood are some of the reasons to visit this unforgettable place.
The coffee farm experience takes place in a beautiful family farm that produces around 2 tons of coffee a year with 14.000 coffee plants. When we get there, we have a traditional delicious lunch to have energy to start learning everything about the coffee production. The coffee expert gives you a thorough context about the coffee industry to have better understanding about what you are going to see in the tour. Once the introduction is over, we invite you to plant a coffee seed and to try the bean as a fruit. Then, we take you to the plantation to pick some coffee beans from the trees and then process it step by step until is roasted and ground. You get the chance to try coffee in different brewing methods so you can differentiate the flavor notes provided by each of these devices as we explain where in the mouth you should put the coffee to taste it. In conclusion, this coffee experience is extremely complete and an unforgettable one that you should not miss out.

We did Communa 13 with city tour on day 1 and the coffee farm tour the next day. Erika was the guide for Communa 13 and she was absolutely fantastic. She grew up in Communa 13 and her personal experiences and knowledge made it such a great tour with many family stories. The Coffee tour was guided by Andres. He is a coffee connoisseur and his relationship with the farm and his years of experience made it another great tour. Both were private tours where the guide came to pick us up in a nice suv and it was just my wife and I on the entire tour. MDT is the premier operator of custom personalized tours and the cost is well worth the experience. I highly recommend them for any tours in Medellin.
The tour guide went out of his way to ensure we had an experience of a lifetime. Highly recommend Alejandro who was extremely knowledgeable of the coffee industry. We had 9 in our group and everyone was very happy. The lunch was great, planned right in the middle of both tours.
Laura was absolutely fantastic! She planned our day perfectly: we started with Comuna 13, then enjoyed lunch at a beautiful farm, and after that we continued with an amazing coffee tour. Highly recommend Laura for anyone looking for an authentic, well-organized, and memorable experience!
The day after we arrived in Medellín, the charismatic and extremely knowledgeable Erika from Medellin Day Trips picked us up at our hotel and took us on a private day tour to Comuna 13. As this is the neighborhood where she grew up in, she knows everyone and has big feelings for her community. To say that it was a very humbling experience is an understatement. It truly made us look at our own lives and the things we take for granted as well as what we stress about. From conflict to color. From fear to art. Comuna 13 is Medellín’s heartbeat of resilience. Also, you have to visit Chota 13’s store and cafe. You’ll see a lot of his work all over Comuna 13. The second part of our day trip was at the organic coffee farm Bosques de la Doctora in Sabaneta where we started off with a typical Colombian lunch wrapped up in a banana leaf. Muy delicioso! Here we learned all about growing coffee, the entire process from bean to cup, as well as the different methods of brewing my husband Bjorn got to try out himself. Bjorn was totally in his element. Unfortunately, after this tour, every other coffee shop or location serving coffee is ruined as Bjorn became a kind of novice as he got to experience first hand how a cup of freshly ground coffee should be brewed and taste like. Personally I don’t care for coffee, I’d rather have a good cup of cacao, matcha latte, chai or herbal tea. I did get to try tea made out of the dried coffee berries which tasted a bit like hibiscus. We learned so much and had the best fun with Erika. She is fluid in English as well if your Spanish isn’t up to par. When visiting Medellin, this tour is an absolute must for every tourist. Saludos, Melanie & Bjorn from Curaçao
My husband and I did a private tour of Conuna 13 and a coffee farm and it was AMAZING!! Yuly was extremely informative and we learned so much. Lunch was also provided and it was delicious!! Would highly recommend!!
My husband and I booked the coffee farm experience and the tour of Comuna 13 as one combined tour as we didn’t have a ton of time in Medellin. Our guide was Daniel, and he was wonderful. He spoke perfect English and was friendly, fun, informative and seemed to know lots of people in Comuna 13. We even got to meet one of the neighbourhood’s most prolific graffiti artists because Daniel introduced us. He picked us up on time at our hotel in a clean air conditioned vehicle. We headed to Comuna 13 early which was great because it wasn’t crowded and the vendors hadn’t yet set up for the day so we were able to see and enjoy the graffiti murals. We learned about the history of the community, the meaning behind the artwork and saw a ton. Daniel also took lots of great pictures of us and Airdropped them to me at the end of the tour. He also got us an incredibly delicious popsicle from a local vendor made from green mango and passionfruit which is served with a cup of lime juice and salt for dipping. We caught part of a truly impressive breakdancing performance and then we left. After that we drove over to the coffee farm which is a small family-run farm. They have some animals and they’re on the side of a mountain. They served us a delicious bandeja paisa for lunch with some of the ingredients coming straight for their farm (avocado, eggs, the leaves it was wrapped in). We brewed their coffee in 4 different methods and got to compare them. We also learned a lot about the coffee industry, and the life cycle of the coffee plant. Then we geared up in rubber boots and traditional coffee harvesting gear and set off into the hills to pick some coffee berries ourselves and then go through all the steps of the process. I would highly recommend Medellin Day Trips and Daniel specifically. He made the day really great.

We were very fortunate to have met our guide, Sara. Her passion and energy was key to our memorable experience. We gained a much deeper understanding and appreciation for Medellín and Columbia through Sara. Her acknowledgment of their difficult past was very helpful in getting the full picture about this country. Highly recommend Sara and this combined tour!
We loved our tours of Comuna 13 and the coffee farm. Sara, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable, personable, and made the experience great. I would recommend this tour as a must do when in the Medellín area. Comuna 13 offers fascinating history and views & a lively atmosphere (Sara was wonderful at letting us explore wherever we wanted) while the coffee farm offers a more rural experience that is equally interesting, as you learn the process of coffee and even get to dress in farmer’s clothes. This is a great company and if I return to Colombia, I will book every tour with them that I can! They made us feel so safe and lucky to have a private tour at a reasonable cost!!
Sara was an incredible guide for comuna 13 and the coffee farm! She is both friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this tour!
We had a great day exploring the coffee farm. Laura was an awesome guide and so much fun. Juan was also so personable and knowledgable about coffee - it made it a really special day. Couldn’t recommend the day and the hosts highly enough!
Our tour with Erika through Comuna 13 and the coffee experience was absolutely incredible—without a doubt, the best tour of our entire stay in Colombia! From the start, Erika made sure everyone in our diverse group felt comfortable, from a toddler to older members, even going above and beyond to take care of a member who was injured. Her attention to detail and genuine care for each of us made her feel more like a family member than just a guide. It wasn’t even part of her job description, but she made sure everyone's needs were met effortlessly. Beyond her kindness, Erika is an exceptional storyteller, weaving history, culture, and personal insights into the tour in a way that kept us completely engaged. She also had the perfect balance of flexibility and time management, ensuring we soaked in every moment without feeling rushed. The coffee tour was equally delightful, and our guide Alexa (or Aleha) was an absolute joy—sweet, funny, and knowledgeable. If you’re visiting Medellín, this tour is a must-book experience. It was the perfect way to end our trip, and we couldn’t recommend Erika more highly!
Sarita was the most amazing tour guide. Very knowledgeable and passionate about everything. She answered every question we had and informed us of all of the history. 10/10 recommend this tour and her as the guide. Made our trip in Medellin even more memorable!
This tour was one of the best we did in Colombia. Our guide Sara was amazing, super knowledgeable and friendly. The tour was really well planned to make the most of the day and we loved sampling the local snacks! Would 100% recommend to anyone looking to spend a day in the area.
We (my husband and I with our two boys ages 6 and 4) went to Comuna 13 and a coffee farm just outside Medellín with Erika. What a beautiful day! Erika was informative, friendly and great with the kids. She kept them engaged while we all explored Comuna 13. Lunch at the coffee farm was delicious and filling! The farm itself was wonderful, it was a delight to learn more about the process. Highly recommend Medellín Day Trips!
The experience was incredible!! It was so unique and we learned so much. Comuna 13 has an energy all its own and like nothing we’ve ever experienced - Sara gave us a deep appreciation of the area and the local and national culture that would have been difficult for us to understand on our own. And the coffee farm up in the mountains within the city was the best! Our kids said it was something they’ll never forget; we could have spent the entire day up there surrounded by its charm.
Booked this while having breakfast at our hotel and it was the best! Andres communicated promptly and had Sara take us on the quintessential Medellín excursion! The tour was private and customized to our likes and preferences. We learned a lot from Sara and also got great tips for visiting other places we didn’t get to. Comuna 13 is so vibrant and colorful! The coffee farm experience was so personal and delightful! The lunch was delicious and coffee tastings were exquisite! Thank you, Sara for showing us a glimpse of beautiful, vibrant and hopeful Medellín.
My family had a great time on this tour! Our guide, Daniel, was super informative and we learned so much about Comuna 13 and Coffee Farm. It was clear Daniel had so much knowledge and passion to teach us much as he could about both. Daniel was so patient with our three year old throughout and made sure he had a good time too! He also took amazing photos he shared with us after. This tour was a great way to maximize our short time in Medellin!
We were fortunate to have Andres and Sarita as our tour guides during our visit to beautiful Medellin. Andres guided our family through a very pleasant coffee farm tour. He was knowledgeable, articulate and clearly communicated of the full cycle of coffee process from laying the seed, nurturing the plants, picking the beans, bagging the coffee to the grand finali of tasting the product which was a wonderful sampling of what real coffee should taste like experience. Sarita guided us on an exciting journey to Guatape. She explained the history of the region, offered us a sample taste of the local fruit, cheered us on from the comfort of the coffee shop while we climbed the 800 El Peñol steps! We loved the entire trip and enjoyed her company. We were so pleased with both tours we asked Andres to guid us on a tour of Comuno 3 which was another outstanding experience. We highly recommend Medellin Day Trips tours for all visitors specially American tourists.
The graffiti tour around Comuna 13 and the coffee farm tour around Maquesina coffee farm was fantastic! Erica was our tour guide and she is a fountain of knowledge on everything to do with Medellin and I would highly recommend asking for her as a tour guide, if she is a available. If you are going to do any tour in Medellin, then this definitely has to be on your list! Also, make sure that you book directly through the Medellin Day Trips website.
The Private Graffiti Tour and Coffee Farm experienced was absolutely perfect for us. We only had a day and half in Medellin and these two activities were a must for us. This was the only company that I could find that does these two tours in one day. The communication was outstanding. They contacted me when they said they would and were right on time for the of the tour The graffiti tour itself was fabulous. I imagined it as just a graffiti tour, but it was so much more than that. Sara o Sarita, did a spectacular job. Her English is super clear and she did a fantastic job in explaining the complicated history of the area. She took us to wonderful view points, great food locations, and shopping spots. She knew exactly where to take us for scenic picture opportunities . The Coffee Farm was absolutely fantastic. We had a delicious lunch. They offered vegetarian food that I was able to turn vegan very easily. We went to Bosques de Doctora Finca. They were lovely, welcoming, and knowledgeable. We had a chance to do coffee tasting, learn about coffee preparation, coffee timeline growth, coffee production process, and purchase organic coffee. We also had opportunities to wear traditional clothing for picking coffee. They gave us boots, hats, and ruanas. We picked some coffee beans off the trees and then prepared it. It was so much fun! We got such good pictures. Overall Sara was very patient with our large group and provided us with so much information. I highly recommend Sara as a tour guide. I also highly recommend Medellin Day Trips. Andres is the best in putting these tours together. They have so many unique tours.
My family was only in Medellin for a couple of days and wanted to make the most of our short visit. Booking the Graffiti Tour and Coffee Farm Experience through Medellin Day Trips was an excellent choice! Erika, our tour guide, was absolutely amazing! Having grown up in Medellin she knew so much about Comuna 13 and the meaning behind the beautiful graffiti as well as the history of the city. She also knew how to keep the tour engaging for our young children who definitely aren’t coffee drinkers! I would definitely recommend this tour to anybody and Erika as a guide!
Words can not explain how much our group of 6 people enjoyed this private tour. Best day in Medellin so far. Erika, our tour guide, was awesome. She was very personable and knew the area and locals very well. You can tell everyone knows her and likes her. She is definitely what made the tour so memorable. Comuna 13 is a must while in Medellin. I see people walking on their own but I think you don’t get the full appreciation or experience without a guide. The area has a lot of history and has a story to tell. The last part of the tour was at a coffee finca (Bosques de la Doctoras). This was way above our expectations. The finca is family run and they go through great detail to show you how the coffee process works from planting the seed into the ground to drinking it. The finca has great views all around and my son (6) loved looking for the coffee beans and picking them. We traveled with an elder person and Erika did everything to accommodate her. My advice for anyone planning on taking this tour is: 1) Do it! It’s worth every peso 2) Request Erika! 3) Book it early in your trip. Erika has such good insights and she can help you get the most out of your time in Colombia.
We did our tour with this amazing company @Medellindaytrips and they did not disappoint. They have a variety of tour combinations and we found the perfect one we were looking for. From day one, Andres was super responsive on Whatsapp and helped us with all the details we needed. He gave us a lot of great information so we could make an informed decision. He made suggestions that made our trip super convenient. He assigned Sarah to us who was our driver and tour guide for the day. She is a local and is extremely knowledgeable about the destinations. We toured Communa 13 followed by a local coffee farm tour. We were traveling with our two young children and Sarah was so patient with us. Helped us with the local shopping and with a tonne of information about Communa 13. Once we reached the coffee farm, we ate a delicious home cooked Colombian meal. Best part is that they had veterinarian options. Everyone at the farm was so friendly and honestly the warmth and love they showed, broke all the language barriers. We got in-depth and step by step information about the process of coffee planting to when it reaches our cups. We also tasted coffee prepared four different ways along with why it tastes the way it does. We experienced real Colombia and the big hearted people of this beautiful and colorful country will always have a place in our hearts. I'd highly recommend any tour with this brilliant company and Sarah you have my love and respect. ❤️
We had an amazing time with MedellinDayTrips and our guide, Erika! It was amazing to see the transformation in comuna 13 and learn all about its history. Erika knew all the best spots and local artists and dancers. We added the cable car ride to the tour, which I would highly recommend! It was great to get that experience and perspective of the city. And finally, the coffee tour was a perfect end to the day. The coffee itself and lunch was extremely good and it was so interesting to see the journey each cup of coffee goes through. I would highly recommend to book this tour! Lots of fun, great communication, and a nice comfortable car. 🙂
This tour was recommended to me by a friend, and it was amazing! Yuly was knowledgeable, friendly, and taught my boyfriend and I so much throughout the day. First, she picked us up at our hotel and took us to Communa 13, where she shared the history of the area and showed us famous graffiti art, explaining the meanings along the way. Then we hopped in the car and went to a coffee farm just outside the city. There we met the owner, who joined the three of us on a coffee picking adventure in the mountains. After eating the most delicious lunch I’ve had in my life, and trying the owners coffee made three ways, we donned hats, a bucket and a poncho like clothing item (snapped plenty of pictures) and laughed as we slid up and down the mountain, searching for “cherries” - the ideal time to pick a coffee bean. Then we went back and learned about the roasting process and closed out the day. Not only was this day informative, but a fun and exciting adventure. Yuly was a wonderful tour guide- I cannot praise her enough! We are so grateful we had this experience and upon our return to Medellin, will definitely do this again.
It was awesome trip with Erika. She is passionate about her job, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. She has all qualities that make her best tour guide: Organized, patient, sensitive, punctual and decisive. She is very good photographer too 😊Thanks a lot for everything you have done to make out visit awesome. Highly recommend this tour and tour company
This was one of our favorite activities in Columbia overall and most definitely in Medellin. Erika was fantastic. She answered our countless questions, made us laugh, and was so knowledgeable about everything. The art and views were breathtaking and the coffee farm was immersively wonderful! Erika even figured out a way to squeeze in a cable car since we didn’t think we would have time to do otherwise. If we are even back in the area, we would definitely tour with her and the whole company again!
We had an incredible time. Sara was an amazing tour guide. She was attentive, kind, informative and very good all around. We had a long, but a very fun day. Our group was 10 people, including kids ranging 6-11 years old. Everyone had an incredible time. We learned so much, had a good balance of learning and relaxing and a very positive experience overall. I highly recommend it for adults or for families. Great experience in an amazing country.
After being on the fence about getting a guide for both of these tours, we are so glad that we ended up doing this! Today was a fantastic day! We learned so much about both the inspirational story of the Comuna 13 neighborhood and about the rich history and taste of Columbian coffee. Our tour guide Daniel was knowledgeable and easy to hang out with for an entire day. He took care of everything from pick up to transportation and of course, the tours. Our guide at the finca was also extremely friendly and knowledgeable! All in all, a fantastic day.
Beautiful views and my tour guide Henry was super personable and relaxed. He did a great job explaining the story of how Medellin has evolved into what is is today and was very generous in sharing his culture with me while touring comuna 13….The coffee farm had an amazing homey feel with very personalized service. I felt like a part of the family and by the end of the tour I was ready to start growing coffee on my own! Very fascinating tour and also has great views from the top of the mountain.
Had loads of fun , our tour guide Erica was very knowledgeable and fun her English was excellent .and when I left my phone in middle of the tour, she volunteered to help look for it .I was so grateful I found it with her help ....
This Combo day tour was absolutely amazing!! Erica was hands down the best tour guide ever along with her boss Andres. Erica was so knowledgeable about Comuna 13 and a blast to hang out with during the coffee tour. Me and three others Amigos had an amazing day with her. The tours were amazing. I would definitely go again and again!!! Amazing Job Medellin Day Trips! Till next time. Ciao, Keith
Today Erica was our guide she was amazing on our tour I know more about Medellin than I thought I could learn in one day! I really enjoyed the laughing and knowledge I learned today! Must do trip if you love coffee ☕
Erica was an amazing guide. She was on time for pick up. She really knows her history and speaks great English. We had an amazing day. She REALLY knows how to make her group smile! 😉 not only did she add bonus stops to the tour., she used words like Choopity Choop.(you will have to take the tour with Erica to learn this language) This company understands customer service. Great job #MedellinDayTrips
Excellent! This was our first time in Medellin and we intentionally used three different companies for tours, not wanting to risk picking the wrong one. Medellin DayTrips was by far the best. They had excellent communication from the initial contact all the way through confirmation the day before the tour, post tour follow-up and checking on us continually throughout the tour. Henry was our guide for the graffiti and coffee tour. He was the perfect guide-knowledgeable and professional but at the same time a lot of fun. He also speaks English perfectly which isn’t very common in Colombia. We didn’t expect to enjoy the Communa 13/graffiti tour as much as we did, but it really is a must see while visiting Medellin. Then we went to the coffee farm. Unlike the others, this tour is literally right in the city and as authentic as you can get. You eat and drink coffee with the farm’s owner before going into the fields to pick the beans and learning about the entire process. It was an excellent experience without having to drive hours outside the city as other companies do. Overall, we really liked Medellin and if/when we return, all tours will be booked with Medellin DayTrips. Many thanks to Henry and the entire team!
The coffee farm tour was incredible the level of knowledge Andres has for each stage of the coffee production and tasting is unmatched. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting Alejandra and her family and having a unique access and perspective to a family run coffee farm and instantly felt welcomed and at home. The views from the mountainside farm were gorgeous and the getting the chance to pick the coffee beans was special. After this tour Andres drove us to Comuna 13 to learn more about the city’s past and present and the distinctive graffiti of Comuna 13. His level of knowledge continued to impress as we ascended the many levels of the Comuna. Learning about Comuna 13 and seeing it is a requisite for visiting the city. We are so thankful that we were able to find this tour and have Andres as our guide!! This is a must do tour when in Medellin!
Best tour and guide in Colombia! Someone told me dont do this tour im so glad that my group decided to do it! I loved it! The experience was spectacular! Andres made our tour an unforgettable experience from start to finish. I am so happy we met Alejandra and her family godbless them all for what the have billed from scratch. I will definitely will be recommending tbisnyo my friends. A must visit indeed.
What an amazing experience! Our tour guide was bilingual and very knowledge. Definitely learned a lot while on this tour. The lunch was delicious and the views were spectacular! Definitely a must do activity while in Medellin. 10/10 !!
The Graffiti and Coffee Farm tour was an excellent experience. Andres (the guide) was very knowledgeable, covering the history of Comuna 13 and the process of coffee farming. The trip to the coffee farm is very interactive and a great stop for lunch and tasting of different coffee brewing methods. Booking this experience was simple, with excellent contact/communication from the tour operators.
Andres was our tour guide and he was super knowledgeable and a great person overall. He had the best vibe and taught us so much about coffee and the Comuna 13 community. I highly recommend him and this tour! The lunch was amazing as was the driver Alex and our coffee boss lady Aleja as well. Overall 10/10 I recommend anytime! Be prepared for a great workout and wonderful memories. Take lots of pictures! The views of Medellin from the high altitude is simply breathtaking. You’ll never see Medellin the same after this tour! Just amazing.
The Comuna 13 tour and the coffee tour were very complete and well explained by Daniel our guide.
A super experience with Daniel; delivered when explaining and super friendly, a unique experience when knowing Medellin and its culture.
Today your chance for a tour to commune 13 and coffee farm. It was an amazing experience, of much knowledge and fun, thanks to our guide Daniel, who is very nice and knowledgeable 👏
The best tour I have done in Colombia. From the first online contact, until they dropped me off at my house. It was spectacular to tour commune 13 with Sara, learning about its history and that of its people. Their willingness to accompany us and show us every corner made this experience unforgettable. Juan Pablo joined us on the coffee tour and together with Sara they did an unparalleled job, no detail was missing, delicious food, knowing the complete process, walking through the crop and trying the coffee (in 4 preparations!), knowing that we are contributing to the growth and prosperity of a Colombian family made our day a spectacular one. I already recommended you and I hope to do more tours with you.
especially the receptionist Linh, also the employees of the Lounge restaurant and the cocktail and cooking teachers
We really liked the 2 excursions, it is perfect to do both on the same day Commune 13 very interesting history and graffiti Super complete coffee outing, we ate, harvested, tasted coffee, talked a lot Ericka our always friendly and attentive guide; she even helped us find exchange because we had run out of money Highly recommended!
