Altogether my friend and I had four tour with Medellin Day Trips, three of which were with Erika. After the first tour we took with Erika, we decided that one was not enough because she is one of the best tour guides we have ever had! Her knowledge of the city of Medellin is outstanding and her skills at bringing history to life were first rate. She provided us with an incredibly in-depth tour of the city. Not only is she an excellent guide, she is delightful company as well. That is not something that you find always with tours. I had hoped that we would enjoy our city tour, and Erika absolutely did not disappoint. It was so so much better than either of us anticipated. We would return to Medellin again just to be able to do more tours with Erika and Medellin Day Trips.

This museum offers you a unique insight into the history of Colombia´s armed conflict from the victims´ perspective, as well as the country´s positive outlook into the future. This stop gives you a more in-depth context about why, how and when the colombian conflict started with the guerillas, paramilitary groups and the Colombian army that has been involved in different massacres throughout the time.
It is one of the oldest food markets in the city and this is the place to try some exotic fruits as well as get to know medicinal herbs to heal all kind of diseases. Did you know that Colombia is the most diverse country per square meter regarding to fruits? That is why we have incorporated in our Medellin City Tour a delicious stop. We will be walking among food kiosks and fruit stands where we will invite you to have a taste of the most tropical exotic fruits.
From the food market we take the tramway. This is actually our third tram in Medellin, the first one was pulled by mules in 1887. This tram was finished in 2015 and since then has brought a huge benefit to the communities in the east sector of Medellin. After our 4.3 km ride in the tram, we reach the most recent aerial car line to fly over hundreds of houses. Throughout the flight your guide will talk about displaced settlements in Medellin and Colombia as well as how our social and health care system work to have more context about Medellin.
Keeping our journey to Medellin´s history we find the Salón Málaga. The music, decoration, pictures, colors and everything in this saloon will make you feel like if you were back again in the 50´s. This is the perfect scene to explain to you the history of our downtown: its golden age, decadence and current programs to revive it.
Once the Medellin´s Courthouse, Palacio Nacional is now the most unusual shopping mall in the city and probably in the world. Many of the condemned people were committing suicide inside the building thus the local authorities decided to change the location and give a new use to this building. This is a great opportunity to buy Colombian clothing and souvenirs at a good price. Go ahead and prove your bargain skills!
Our next stop in our Medellin City Tour is nothing less than the second church built in Medellin in 1712 with the help of European immigrants. At this place you will also be introduced to an archaeological find from the colonial times and your tour guide will explain interesting facts about the church and it surroundings.
An urban space that displays 23 sculptures of the illustrious son of Medellin, Master Fernando Botero. After walking around and appreciating the open-air museum, we head to the Cultural Palace, a beautiful neo-Gothic style building. At this place your guide tells you this building´s story while you admire the architectural beauty from inside.

It took me over 6 months to plan this 6 day trip to Medellin. So many hotels and excursions to pick from. I kept changing my mind to maximize my stay. I usually start with a tour of the city, so we can figure out where to go. Tour of Medellin - "off the beaten path" was perfect. I highly recommend this tour so you can learn the history of the city and ask all the questions on where to go on your own, where is safe, best tours, local favorites, etc. This company has multiple trips, so check them out. Erika, our tour guide, is always early, always smiling, always fun, and just a great person to be around. She picked us up at our hotel (she's always early) and showed us all around the city central. We went to the museums, parks, shopping areas, took the city tram, and a cable car. We learned so much about the history and culture. We stopped a few times for street food and coffee too. Buñuelos! Just big ball of cheesy goodness for sure. This tour is a must! Tip: We wore shorts, and NO ONE does. It seems that only tourists do. I get hot, so I wore shorts. Medellin, everyone wears jeans or pants, and tops/shirts. Wear a good pair of walking shoes.
The tour guide was amazing! Erika absolutely knows her stuff. She modified the tour to our needs. This is the way to see the city!!!
Our tour with Erika was nothing short of AMAIZING. She promptly picked us up at our hotel and gave us an tour of the city. We started in the city center where she explained the history of Medellin to us. During our time in the city center she offered the option to change one of our stops to visit Commune 13. Since we were short on time (we were only in the city for the weekend) she mentioned that this was a must see part of the city. Boy were we glad that she gave us this option. Commune 13 was one of the most memorable parts of our trip to Medellin. While there we had the opportunity to try the best local empanadas and Colombian delicacy's we had during our trip. We also saw some of the amazing art in the area. We loved it. Our tour with Erika was perfect, we would highly recommend that you plan your tours in Medellin with MedellinDayTrips.
The private tour was exactly what we needed! Alejandro (Alejo) was a very knowledgeable tour guide and gave us a mountain of information regarding each thing we saw & place we visited. Alejo provided us with a true five star experience. He also provided some of his experiences living in Medellin for many years. Our daughter wasn't feeling her best so we asked Alejo to tailor the tour somewhat - which he was more than willing. The tour company is definitely a class above so many others.
Erika was our tour guide and we could not have been in better company! We visited the Botero plaza, el centro, the Museum of memory and then a trip on the city tram where we experienced striking views of Medellin. Erika is so knowledgeable and made the experience so much richer. We left even more in love with Medellin and its spirit of resilience and love. Thank you Erika!
If you like history and art, this tour is for you. We visited Memory Museum and it was a very moving experience. We also saw Botero statues and learned a lot about history of this region. Erika, our guide, really loves her country and shared so many interesting details with us. She was amazing, make sure to request her, you won’t be disappointed.
This is the perfect day tour of Medellin. Our tour guide Alejo Duque was everything we could ask for. Alejo met us on-time at our hotel for pick up. He made sure we had all of our needs met before beginning the tour. The tour lasts about 5-6 hours long. Prepare yourself to walk! Time will go by very quickly seeing and visiting all of the sites. It rained off an on throughout the day and we had a great time nonetheless. at one time, while seeking shelter from the rain, Alejo took us to a historical pub in the city where we could stop and grab a drink while enjoying the history and beauty of teh downtown area. From beginning to end, the whole day is really unforgettable. If you are wanting to get to know Medellin, book this tour. Alejo, again, thank you!!
Andres was an amazing tour guide! What I love about Medellín Day trips is you can customize your tour to be what you want. Andres was so personable and knowledgeable. This was my second time doing the city tour and he showed us a few things I had not seen before. He even let me have my 1/2 hour in the museum shop. In the afternoon we went to play Tejo at the most most beautiful place. Thank you Andrea for such a great day!
Sarah was my tour guild. Great customer service, she took me to all the important areas in Medellín. She was always alert to make sure I felt safe. Nothing but professionalism from her. Any English speakers wanting to know the history of Medellín form an awesome guild, Sarah is the one.
I would definitely recommend Medellin Day Trips for a city tour. Firstly, my pre booking communication with Andres ( who runs the company) was excellent. He is very polite, informative, helpful and happy to answer any questions with patience and courtesy, He was even kind enough to arrange a pick up from the airport for me to start the city tour as i was flying in on the same day, My guide for the city tour was Alejandro. He was simply superb! He was knowledgable, cheery and an easy going, amiable person. I really enjoyed the fruit tasting part at the local market and experiencing the local transportation system. The Salon Malaga was a cool experience too and i enjoyed seeing the sculptures in Botero Square, I felt safe at all times and thoroughly enjoyed this overview of the city. Everyone in the company spoke excellent English and they truly look after their customers. If you are short of time and looking for excellent customer service, then please book with Medellin Day Trips, you will not be disappointed!
We took this tour with Alejandro in early April 2022. Alejandro is a very knowledgeable and personable host for this experience, and he kept up a running commentary about the background and history of everything we saw. I especially appreciated his insights into the conditions of life in the famous Comuna13 neighborhood. This is a poor and periodically dangerous area made famous by its mural and music art and by its association with Pablo Escobar. The tourist boom here has benefited the barrio unevenly, while the costs of crowding, traffic, etc are borne by all who live there. I feel like he helped us understand the place better, get under the surface a little, and also be better guests and not treat the place like a zoo. Really enjoyed the day and can’t recommend the tour enough. I also am very impressed with Alejandro specifically. He was great company all day long, and a the end of the tour he gave us his WhatsApp info and invited us to ping him with any other questions we had while in Colombia. We took him up on that a few days later and he came through for us when he didn’t have to. Good, professional guy.
Really enjoyed this tour. Very interesting and informative. Andres is relaxed yet professional and always happy to answer questions. He has a good knowledge of recent Colombian history and empathised with the people we came across during the tour. His English is excellent and private transportation was very comfortable. Highly recommended.
I highly recommend this tour. Alejandro, the guide was fantastic. He is knowledgeable, kind, and funny. He tailored the tour to what I was most interested in and took the time to make sure that all of my questions were answered. His English is fluent and we had no trouble communicating. We started at the Memory House Museum which was emotional, but it helped put the rest of the tour into the context of the history of Medellin and Colombia. After that, the rest of the tour was lighter and a lot of fun. Alejandro also made sure that we were safe at all times. This included letting me know when to pay closer attention in crowds and taking covid precautions.
We loved our city tour with Andres! Andres spoke great English, and has a depth of knowledge and personal history to share with you about Medellín. He was very punctual and his car was clean and comfortable. The tour is organized in a great way to show you the maximum possible of the city. We enjoyed taking public transit, walking around different neighborhoods, and learning about many significant buildings. Through this tour, Andres helped us better understand both the history and geography of Medellin. We loved this tour and we now have a new love for Medellin - thanks, Andres!
I really enjoyed our city tour. Andres was out of town so we had Oscar. We toured a museum that highlighted the people’s impacted by the violence. We went to Boston Park and saw the tree of life which was one of my favorites parts of the tour. You will need to take the tour to get the story. 😀. We went on the metro cable which provided great views of both the residences and the city. Lastly we went to the statue park and the museum of art shop, which is a cant miss. The communication was great and they even arranged to pick us up at a mall. I highly recommend this tour company and will book with them on my return trip in March.
Andres took his time and gave us a very detailed tailored tour. He even went out of his way and gave us directions for our afternoon trip.. he’s an excellent guide!! Highly recommended!!
The guide (Andres) picked us up at our hotel and dropped us back afterwards. In between was 4 and half hours of tour on foot, in vehicle, in trams and cable cars covering much of the interesting parts of Medellin. Well worth doing if you only have a couple of days in the city
Our bespoke city tour with Andres has been one of the best city tours and experiences we had in Medellin. Not only was Andres accommodating (4 adults and 3 kids in total) with our kids and very patient, he was also very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. His knowledge on Medellin's and Antioquia's history is amazing. He interacted with the local community in comuna 13 and treated us to local snacks. We really enjoyed our tour and highly recommend Andres and Medellin Day Trips.
Andres was fantastic! We were picked up promptly at our hotel and enjoyed a wonderful day seeing the sights and learning the history of Medellin. After the tour Andres suggested a fabulous restaurant and even dropped us off there. Highly recommend!
We contacted Andres with very little notice, and he managed to accommodate us on an afternoon tour. Before we started, he went over the options and tailored the tour to our particular tastes. We saw so much of the wonderful city, with great information being provided to us. Andres knows so much of the recent, and not so recent history of Medellin and the different neighborhoods. We particularly liked the interactions with local vendors, offering us delicous snacks and even a stop as a barista! He is obviously very popular with the people he knows from his tours and with good reason. We thoroughly enjoyed our day, and would have recommend him and his company to anyway that wants an personal tour with a wonderful guide.
I am Colombian from Cali and I lived in Medellin for a semester, I rarely recommend any tours to my friends and family when they visit Medellín because usually they are all the same and as a local they just don’t seem that appealing to me but this one was different. I went with my American family on this tour and this was their first time in Medellin and they absolutely loved it as did I, the tour was full of amazing new experiences even for me. We had one person on a wheelchair and Andrés had no problem designing a tour that was accesible for her, his translation was perfect (something hard to find) the information, history and data he gives allows foreigners to really have an insight about Medellín and it’s culture. Without any doubt I’d absolutely do a tour with Andrés again and from now on I finally have a company that I can recommend to anyone who visits Medellín.
Andres was by far the best tour guide I had! Such a sweet, nice and friendly person! He was super helpful too! City tour was great and we even stopped at a local market to try some exotic fruits. Book all of your tours with him- I know I wish I did!
It is best to take a freetour, which after the tour is tipped. The boys told the story as a very cute and extremely charismatic story guides them with love for what they do. They are located in La Saliva del metro Alpujarra and they walk through part of the historic center there with Plaza de Botero. It's worth it. I think people in Medellin are very friendly and tell the story with a lot of heart
Very good tour and wonderful service. The spectacular weather all we could see was nice.
