Guatapé Tour

This is a very overdue review. We toured to Guatape with Luis in July 2026. It was a great experience. He was hospitable, knowledgeable and flexible. He picked us up from our hotel in Medellin (and was there early). It felt like we had a local showing us around. We stumbled onto an Antioqueño festival in Guatape and ultimately ditched the rest of our plans to enjoy that instead. Great time and I'd highly recommend Luis.

Luis took us on a private tour from Medellin to to Guatape, incl climbing the rock, lunch in Guatape, walk of the town and many scenic spots in the area. He is an excellent guide, knows the area well, and sent us off at the airport in the afternoon in good time to catch our plane. Well done Luis.

Luis was our driver for our trip and tour guide and he was amazing. He got us safely and timely to the airport, concert and did a great tour Gutapae. It was way better than a large group tour bc we were not rushed and could choose exactly what we wanted to do and stay. The car was comfortable. If I ever visit again I’d love to stay

Luis was a wonderful tour guide! He picked us up from our hotel in the morning (so convenient!) and provided interesting information as we made our way to Guatapé and to climb the Peñon de Guatapé. I appreciated the flexibility of the tour - Luis was happy to stay at a place longer or move on to the next stop whenever we were ready to go. Enjoyed his humor and personality. Would highly recommend recommend taking this tour with Luis!

Could not have asked for a better guide through Medellín! He has lived in the area most of his life, so he brings a lot of personal stories and knowledge throughout his tour helping to get a good grasp of the culture in Medellín. We had a couple specific things we wanted to see, so he made sure to fit them into our schedule and even added some extra stops in the city! We did a tour of Guatape, Peñol, the coffee farm, Comuna 13, and the botanical garden spread across two days. Cannot recommend more for those looking for a laid back, private tour with loads of history, activities, and sightseeing!

We booked our tour to Guatape with Luis based on past reviews. We were not disappointed. He structured our tour to what we wanted to do from the pick up time to how much time we wanted to spend in each area. We made several stops on our way to Guatape and each stop was wonderful. We learned so much about Medellin and Colombia from Luis. He is so knowledgeable and very passionate about his country. We even were able to add a coffee tour at the end of the day. We hadn’t booked it, but Luis was able to make it happen. It was incredible from start to finish. We loved our full day with Luis so much that we asked if he was available the very next day and he was able to accommodate us. He picked us up on time, we toured more of the city of Medellin and Comuna 13. He even dropped us off at the airport for our flight to Bogota. This was by far the best two days of our 10 day trip to Colombia. Book Luis!!! You will not regret it. He is chill and personable and goes above and beyond to make your tour the best!

Luis was knowledgeable, friendly, and a very good driver! This was easily our favorite day of our seven day trip to Medellin and it was in large part to Luis’ guidance. He gave us opportunities for stops along the way to Guatape. We stopped at a beautiful waterfall and we stopped at a local coffee farm for a guided tour. The city of Guatape and El peñón de Guatape were the absolute icings on the cake! 100% recommend!

Fantastic tour of Gautape with Luis Ospina!! Seven of us went on a private tour with Luis to Guatape. On the way we stopped at a beautiful waterfall, then stopped at a petting zoo that had Llamas, horses, ostriches, and many other animals, and then onto a coffee plantation where we picked coffee beans and saw how the beans are processed. The final result was the coffee was devious. Everyone had a fun and great time at all of these places. Then we toured the city and ate lunch at a very good restaurant that faced the waterfront. After lunch we did a walk through the colorful city and then proceeded to Guatape to climb the mountainous rock, El Penol. The scenery, lakes and landscapes were awesome!! Luis did a great job of accommodating our every need and never rushed us and was very patient throughout the tour. He took us places that we would never had seen or experienced if we were on our own or on another tour. Luis has a vast amount of knowledge about the history and culture of Colombia and you couldn’t ask fora better Tour Guide than Luis. He speaks perfect English, which was a plus. He was the Best and we would highly recommend him for all of his tours!!!

Mauricio is an exceptional tour guide. My family travels often, and Mauricio is one of the best tour guides we've ever worked with. He is knowledgeable, easy to speak with, and fully fluent in English. He also knows fun places to stop/eat/visit along the way. The whole day felt like a great conversation, and we learned a lot about Colombia, the culture and the history. We quickly booked a Pablo Escobar tour with Mauricio for later in the week. Mauricio knows a ton about the history of the Escobar family and the cartels. He clearly reads and studies the topic. It was excellent. Throughout the week we contacted Luis for help with logistics and cars. He was wonderful to work with. If I went back to Colombia (or advised a friend travelling), I would book everything through Luis. A huge thank you to both Luis and Mauricio!

Luis is fluent in ENGLISH and extremely knowledgeable about the history of Medellin, and all of Colombia. At the beginning of the two-day tour, we took a city tour of Medellin to learn more about the many diverse surrounding areas. Then visited the local community of COMUNA 13 with stunning graffiti art and street food. Also, visited the Pable Escobar memorial honoring the endless number of victims who lost their lives during his time. Moreover, climbed the iconic Peñol de Guatapé (Rock of Guatapé) and explored various areas of Guatape. In addition, visited a petting zoo and coffee farm in EL PENOL, ANTIOQUIA with other stops along the way... Luis was an absolute great guide! He was professional, timely, courteous, historically knowledgeable and street smart. Highly recommend his services!

Our tour guide Luis was outstanding. He coordinated every detail and made it effortless. He knows folks everywhere along the way and made a personalized trip with a coffee Plantation experience, fabulous lunch, shopping trip, water Park, and of course climbing el pedrol. I was given a guide whose name is Arhobis. A very nice person indeed but little english skills. I booked for a english speaking tour. So tourists be aware you are not guaranteed an english speaking guide. Also, my guide failed to manage a boat ride. We were taken to a public boat for local people which was not at all we asked for. In the process we killed two important hours of the trip. The scenic drive was very good and the guide was a nice person. That is why I am giving it three stars

Awesome tour! Luis was an excellent guide. He knew everything we asked for and made great suggestions along the way. This tour gives you a great chance to see the countryside and explore beautiful towns outside Medillín. The view from the top of the rock was well wotlrth the climb!

We took the Guatape day tour with Luis and had a great time exploring the area. He chose great spots for us to stop at and we enjoyed the freedom we were given throughout the tour. He was very knowledgeable and even took us on a last minute boat tour as we passed through Guatape. The price was very reasonable and worth it for a whole day experience for a group of 6 like ours, highly recommend!

Great service,if you need a guide to your medellin and all around Luis and his guys are the best don’t hesitate to contact them,they’re efficient ,have a lots of knowledge of the history of Medellin and it surrounded areas. Always pick you up on time if you want to go to the airport if you wanna go and see the city or if you want to go anywhere, they are the people you have to call, they are very knowledge they speak Spanish. We booked our trip at the last minute (the day before), and Luis was very accommodating! He arrived at 8am for a timely pickup, and we had a wonderful day of history, fun stop off points, and a great time in Guatape. Be sure to let your guide know of your interests right off the bat so they can adjust the itinerary to suit your preferences. Luis was very easy to work with, highly proficient in English, and allowed our family to have a fabulous day outside of Medellin.

We had the privilege to have Luis as a guide. He went above and beyond the call of duty. He was welcoming, pleasant, helpful, patient. He is a great communicator and he knows Medillin inside and out. He took us to a petting zoo, old Peñol, La Piedra, a very nice restaurant named Donde Sam where we had the best food in Colombia,. Then we walked the beautiful, colorful city where we purchased leather goods, had some coffee and dessert and took great pictures to cement our memories. It was a wonderful day, and the Guatapé tour with Luis has my highest recommendation.

Our trip with Johnny was fantastic! Opting for a private tour was definitely the right choice for us. We enjoyed leisurely stops at various places, including the llama farm, climbing up the big rock, a boat trip with sightseeing and relaxing-and a delightful lunch with local flavour. Johnny provided insightful commentary on the history of Guatapé without making us feel rushed. Highly recommend this experience!

Guatapé is beautiful. Nice trip. Enjoyed our time there. Visited the town and climbed the 700 steps. Food was great as well.

Luis was an awesome tour guide. The communication was great before the tour and he was super punctual the day of. He is very knowledgeable and shared a lot of cultural facts throughout the tour. I did a private tour as it was just my father and I and it was everything we had hoped for. We liked him so much we even requested him for airport transfer the following day as well. Luis is highly recommended, you are guaranteed to have a good time.

Everything was organized perfectly even with us waking up late, Luis accommodated as much as possible. He has a nice van so it was comfortable for 6 big guys to do tours!
