This was a great experience, and the highlight of our trip to Colombia. Guatape is an amazing place. Our tour guide, Felipe, was very good. He is very knowledgeable, witty and super fun. Felipe did a great job explaining everything in detail, including history, context and fun stories. We did not feel rushed at all and were able to explore all areas. We added the 1-hr boat ride - worth it to see the beautiful area from the water. The tour is comprehensive, includes visits to a couple of towns and the Guatape rock. Highly Recommend!

Felipe was an amazing guide and so much fun! He was personable and made sure we were having a good time on the day! He knew a lot of the history, constantly telling us stories of the area and fun facts that you’d never learn on your own. He was also super flexible and even accommodated last minute changes on our side - such as visiting a coffee plantation, a stop at a local farm bar and also was able to take our luggage with us in the morning and drop us off at the airport instead of going back to Medellin. I cannot recommend this tour more highly! It was the highlight of our trip to Medellin! A must do!!

This is my second time visiting Medellín and I had to call the best tour guide, Felipe. He was not only energetic and informative of the history of Guatape but a great photographer, as well! Do not hesitate to book this tour, you will not be disappointed!

You are getting way more than just a regular tour guide. If you are considering Felipe as your guide i will say this. If he offered tours in other cities in Colombia specifically with him, I would not hesitate to book him. And in the future when I do come back, I will not give it a second thought as to who I will choose as my tour guide. Yes i took a lot of photos and videos of the places we went; but what i will remember are the stories he told, the extra places showed us, the history lessons he taught and the impact he had on my first trip to Colombia.

You are getting more than just a tour guide, you are getting friend who is sharing his knowledge, culture and history of his country. If you are thinking about Felipe as your guide, I'll say this. I would not hesitate to book him for other cities in Colombia if he offered them; and when I come back, I am not even giving it a second thought of who I will choose as my tour guide. Yes i have pictures and videos of going to these places, but i will more so remember the stories he told, the places he took us and the impact he made on my first trip to Colombia.

Our guide, Laura, was great. We had considered renting a car and going to Guatape by ourselves but I’m really glad we didn’t. Laura brought the area to life, explaining the history of the dam and the creation of the lake that flooded old Pinol. She knew where to park, how to get tickets quickly for the rock, the best place for lunch with a view of the lake. We loved seeing the prettiest streets in Guatape, hearing about the zocalos. We had a great private boat ride on the lake and she had fascinating anecdotes about the houses around the lake. All in all, a great day.

We chose a private tour hoping to have a more personalized experience and learn details about the surrounding area and Guatape itself. Our guide (also our driver) was not very knowledgeable (about Guay or Columbia in general) and spent the entire tour socializing with friends at each destination. We spent quite a bit of time waiting for the guide to move onto the next Landmark while he was flirting with the female staff. The drive was one of the most miserable experiences for all of us. We spent two hours both directions listening to music that ranged from opera, heavy metal, Irish folk etc and, despite numerous requests to turn down the volume, it ultimately would creep itself back up. Our guide was completely insensitive (and clueless) to the passengers. His driving was erratic and dangerous-frequently, overtaking lines of vehicles amongst an upcoming curve in the road. The entire drive home, the driver was texting on his phone. We contemplated having him drop us off on the side of the road and finding an Uber home… Lunch was also a terrible experience. We requested “the best food experience “in the area, cost was not an issue. Stupidly we allowed our guide to choose the lunch. destination. Unfortunately this destination was also clearly personal friends restaurant. Ambiance was less than desired with the location on a busy road with trucks passing by constantly. The food was generally inedible- saturated in oil, fish was overcooked, and some of the dishes appeared reheated. If it wasn’t bad enough that the lunch choice was awful, the guide also expected us to pay for his lunch. Normally, this is some thing that we would offer and more than happy to do but at this point in the day we would’ve thought he would be sensitive to the fact that we were all having a miserable time. As mentioned above, he was completely clueless. Guatape itself is a beautiful landmark and a must do in Columbia. For your safety and your enjoyment however, do not choose this tour!

We had a great time spending the day with Felipe. The tour was exciting, educational, and relaxing. The food from the local restaurant was great and the boat tour had amazing views of the city. The rock climbing experience was breath taking at every stop. Such a Great tour!!!! We will use this company again when we return to Medellin.

Felipe is a very communicative, knowledgeable and thoughtful guide.  He answered all of our questions about Colombia history, culture and current events.  He is an expert driver with a safe and comfortable vehicle for our 3 person  tour. 

The tour was a highlight of our trip to Medellin. Guatape is beautiful, and Felipe did a great job making the trip interesting, in part by sharing his own life experiences in the area. His English skills were excellent, and his Honda Pilot was large and extremely comfortable (especially in comparison to other cars around, which were much smaller). Felipe also was flexible and helpful in planning other aspects of our trip in Medellin. Highly recommended. The boat add-on was definitely worthwhile. Bring sneakers for the hike to the top of Guatape.

Felipe was an outstanding tour guide! He was well-informed, helpful, and accommodating. We had an amazing time exploring Guatape, hiking the piedra, having lunch with a view, and taking the boat out! Felipe made sure we made it there and back in time to beat significant traffic, he knew the best spots, and the ins and outs of everything. Even our photographer throughout the day!! Felipe is the best. Would 100% recommend this tour!

What a great experience from beginning to end! Felipe picked us up right on time and was very friendly and just a fun person to be around. We have so many great pictures from each stop. We couldn’t have asked for a better day trip to Guatapé!

We really enjoyed our Guatape tour with Felipe! He made the trip fun and knew the ins-and-outs of all the places we traveled. His car was great as well. Note; it’s a long ride to get there and back, but with the stops along the way, it wasn’t intolerable. Overall, we felt like it was a fun adventure and wouldn’t hesitate to go with Felipe on this or other tours he offers!! I would also recommend the hour boat ride on the lake. It was a great add-on excursion.

Our friend group of 7 took this tour which was perfect since we could all be seated together & comfortably in the van for the day. We had Mario as our driver and guide, he was very friendly! On the way to Guatape, we stopped at a petting zoo where we could feed lammas/horses and get coffee / stretch. Then we went to Guatape rock, El Peñón, where admission was included in our tour fee and we could walk up the stairs to the top of the rock where there were incredible views. Afterwards, we had a local lunch of rice, beans, egg, avocado, and fish and got to explore the beautiful colored city. Having a private tour was great since we could take our time at each location, and the pick-up / drop-off directly to our hotel made the whole day trip easy! Coordination with the tour guides via whatsapp was also very easy and flexible. Would definitely recommend :)

The best way for families to experience Guatupe/El Peñol is by private tour, and I highly recommend PH Tours Medellin. We had a fantastic time with Felipe (our tour guide and owner of the company). Our family of four (two kids ages 5 & 9) was picked up at our hotel in a spacious, clean 3-row SUV. Felipe was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable about the history of the areas we visited. He was also very patient with our kids. Felipe was fluent in English and Spanish, and I think he spoke a few other languages. We got to explore so much during the day. Our first stop was at a petting zoo with llamas, alpacas, and a variety of farm animals. Next we headed to the replica of the old town of El Peñol. We then went to the town of Guatupe, which was colorful and beautiful. I recommend adding the VIP Boat Tour to your excursion. We got on a private comfortable speedboat and rode around the lake while Felipe pointed out homes owed by famous and infamous people. Finally, we climbed the 700+ steps to the top of El Peñol rock. It seemed daunting at first, but our kids were able to do it with a few breaks along the way. The views from the top are worth it! Felipe was very well connected to locals in the areas we visited, and recommended stores and restaurants along the way. We explored all the stops at a leisurely pace. Please know that there may be lots of traffic heading from Medellin to Guatupe, so if he recommends leaving early in the morning…. DO IT! We left at 7:30am and had an easy journey. There was a traffic jam on the highway home so he recommended an alternate, off road route…. it was a fantastic adventure and we got to see amazing nature and quaint villages. Plus, it saved us a couple of hours of travel! We returned to the hotel by 7:30pm. This tour was our family’s favorite part of our trip to Colombia. I highly recommend it. our guide was Kevin and he was very nice, good driver and friendly. he only gave minimal information, and not as engaging as i would have hoped. we went in high season and the traffic was horrible so advise going as early as possible on these days. the additional boat on the lake was the highlight for sure.

The experience was great from start to finish. Felipe picked me up at my condo and we beat the morning traffic. Not only did Felipe provide transportation to Guatepe, he also provided background/history on the area which was very insightful. I would definitely recommend any tour that Felipe provides, he’s the best!!

Fantastic experience with Felipe and PH Tours Medellín! Birthday celebration in Medellín, seven women spending the day with Felipe in Guatapé. We had a terrific time, visiting the area and climbing to the top of the rock. We felt safe and Felipe is very knowledgeable and fun. It was very crowded but Felipe made it all happen for us. We also used him for a second side tour and transport to and from the airport. Well worth it and highly recommend.

We booked this private day trip on Viator/TripAdvisor and Felipe was our guide. We had an amazing time on this tour and Felipe also helped us with airport transfer and an English speaking tour guide for Comuna 13. Felipe is very knowledgeable, helpful and very resourceful. During the day trip, one of us needed a room for 1 hour to attend a call and Felipe was able to arrange that. The coffee farm tour, guided tour thru the town, boat ride with Felipe telling interesting stories were all amazing. He even took us to a beautiful art gallery where we could buy some art. He never rushed us even though the day was getting longer. He was very flexible in terms of payment currency, cash/credit etc., spoke and understood English very well. Overall a thorough professional and we will highly recommend him for all his services. I have already sent his contact details to 2 other people who are visiting Medellin.

Felipe our tour guide from PF Tours was amazing throughout the day. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. He went above and beyond making our trip memorable. He even arranged for a room for 1 hour as one of us had to attend a zoom call. Overall, I will highly recommend this tour with Coffee exoerience.

This excursion picked us up at MDE airport at around 10am, and we were off. We traveled to the historical village and learned all about how the dam created guatape lake. We climbed the rock, which gave amazing panoramic views of the unique-to-the-world view. And we had a blast exploring Guatape. At the end of the tour our guide expertly drove us back to drop us at Poblado. If you are looking for a great Guatape experience this is the trip for you!

My friend and I booked a private tour to Guatape. Felipe our guide was excellent. He picked us up.@ our hotel and in two hours we were in Guatape. He was very informative and took us to all the important places around the area. Plazo de los Zocalos, old Penol town center, and of course Penol Rock where we climbed 742 steps to the summit. Amazing views!! Very fun and a must if you travel to Medellin. 👏👏

Our guide Felipe picked us up on time and provided a quick run down of our schedule. It was about a 2hr drive from where we were located in Medellin with a pit stop along the way for restroom and snack break. Felipe discussed history and sights of interest along the way. Once we were at Guatape, he took care of everything and we climbed the rock while he waited on us below. The hike itself for me was about 11 mins, for the rest of my group about 20mins. The views are beautiful at the summit where cold beverages await. After guatape we took the boat tour of the area highlighting some of Pablo's old properties. The boat tour is a separate expense but worth it in our opinion. We concluded with a tour of the town of Guatape and were escorted to various shops if we wanted to purchase souvenirs. After a full day, we all passed out in back as he safely drove us back to our hotel. 5 stars and well worth the trip/experience.

Our Medellin experience was amazing 100% thanks to Felipe. If I could resume his skillset in two words they would be FLEXIBITIY and HONESTY. Thanks for everything Felipe and see you next time!

We were 6 people including 2 senior citizen and a baby. Felipe never rushed us at any place and took us to all the places. His English is quite good and helped us at the restaurant and shops. He also helped me get a better currency exchange rate. We liked him so we booked him for a city tour and also airport drop off.

Felipe was our host. He provided excellent service. He organized our trip on busy holiday weekend, tried his best to beat the traffic and provide us excellent service. We very much enjoyed our trip and his efforts to keep us safe and guide the toor.

Juan Pablo was an excellent guide. Guatape is basically out of a storybook or Disney movie, climbing the Rock looks intimidating but is relatively straightforward for healthy people. It took my sister and I (both in our late twenties) about fifteen minutes to get up and again to get down. Going out in a boat on the lake to see Pablo Escobar's old abandoned estate was also very cool. The food was great, the views beautiful, and the history fascinating. Can't miss on a trip to Colombia!

We have arrived from Spain to Medellín and we have been welcomed in a very special way by Pipe. Their kindness and family treatment made us feel safe and comfortable from the first moment.
