I HIGHLY recommend this tour. Toto, our bilingual tour guide, and Gloria, a community organizer, gave our small group of 6 a powerful, moving, and engaging tour and history of Comuna 4 from 1968 to the present day. They are both members of the community we toured so we learned of their community's struggle, resistance to relocation, cohesion, and transformation via firsthand observations. We learned how life differs for the people of this barrio depending upon the exact location of their homes. Comuna 4 still has much many challenges ahead, but Gloria and Toto are a living testament to the community's spirit and resilience.

Itinerary
Our guide and the community ambassador with meet you there and will give you the historical context of the Barrio Moravia, explain its origins in the 60's as an illegal neighborhood and explain one version of the "transformation of Medellin"
Visit La Resistencia de Moravia. Get to know the "other side of the transformation of Medellin" which is the version no one talks about and understand why hundreds of families have resisted for more than a decade the reallocation plan set by the government.
Once deep within the neighborhood, we find a quiet place to sit and talk about the Colombian Health Care and Welfare System. Get to understand why there are so many street vendors and how come if there is a welfare system in place, almost half of Colombians do not have access to it.
Get to see the graffiti dedicated to the most important football (soccer) teams of the city and understand the cultural implications behind this sport in Colombian society.
We sit again and enjoy the shade of the trees in front of Fundación Oasis Urbano where we explore the Education and Strata system in Colombia.
We enjoy the tiniest yet most delicious street empanadas in the whole city!
We get to see the football field of the neighborhood, we talk to the local ambassador and we get to know her story of resilience, resistance and hope.
Together with the community ambassador you will visit the Centro Cultural and learn the powerful story of how this community built such an infrastructure

The most eye opening and authentic experience we have had in Medellin
It was an exceptional tour. The guide was very knowledgable, and explained the transformation and challenges of the area very well. He also gave us information on how political and economical context changed through the years. He did not shy away from questions and also provoked discussions. The life stories of the community leader was also very valuable, it was inspiring to hear how her and others managed to survive through extremely difficult times. Those few hours were very well spent and I recommend it to anyone interested in socioeconomic challenges of a big Colombian city like Medellin.
Amazing experience! A whole new understanding of Medellín, and of Colombia as a whole.
A truly excellent tour explaining the history of the neighborhood with a community leader. Really transforming the history of Medellín to the impact on lives
Very good ! Interesting and authentic history of this neighborhood.
This walking tour may be the most interesting and moving tour I have ever taken. Toto, our guide, lays out the history of Moravia with stunning pictures and stories. He is an engaging teacher, passionate about this community. He grew up in this neighborhood, so along the way, he will greet people he knows and share their stories. Gladys tells her personal story of survival and thriving on the garbage dump turned garden. If you are interested in history, social justice, or the spirit of talented people who built a thriving community against all odds, this tour is for you.
Amazing experience learning all about transformation of comuna 4. Our guide, Toto was an amazingly animated storyteller. He was accompanied by a woman who grew up in the barrio during the 70’s , 80’s. He was from the community too. I feel I got the narrative of the place. People kept greeting him on the walk. City tours only uses guides from the location. We also took an amazing food tour with Toto and City tours. Today, we are taking their free walking tour. A must for anyone with a social justice bent.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Comuna 4 tour with Real City Tours was a real highlight! We visited in October, during the low season, so we were in a very small group, which made the experience even more personal. Toto was a great guide, sharing lots of interesting insights about the neighbourhood’s history and transformation. We stopped at several places along the way to hear the stories and take everything in. Toto also translated Gladys’s stories beautifully. As one of the neighbourhood’s first residents, she gave us a unique, personal perspective on how life (in Comuna 4 and Medellin) has changed over the years. The tour was informative, authentic and a great way to support the local community. Definitely worth the money and highly recommended!
Our tour of Comuna 4 with Toto and Gladys was a truly eye-opening and unforgettable experience. We left feeling shocked, deeply impressed, and very touched by their stories. The tour gave us the opportunity to discover another side of Medellín and better understand the history, struggles, and resilience that have shaped the community into what it is today. Everyone we met was incredibly warm, friendly, and welcoming, which made the experience even more special. I would wholeheartedly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Medellín. It’s a meaningful experience that shows the power of people, the strength of a community, and the importance of understanding the stories behind a place. We can only speak highly of this tour!
Thank-you so much Toto and Gladys!! The tour was incredibly informative and eye opening. I really enjoyed hearing the history of your communa and how its has transformed over the last 30 years! Highly recommend this tour!
Best tour I did so far in Medellin. I have been here now for 7 days, but today felt like another city. Toto and the lady (forgot her name, both longtime residence of the communa) where the best, entousiastic, eager to answer questions and good talks apart from the tour. It had a real authentic feel, so I hope more people will enjoy the tour, but not to much ;).
This tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Colombia and left a profound mark on our hearts. Toto and Heroina gave us an intimate insight into their community, which has endured decades of adversity and undergone significant transformation. They shared stories of the adversity endured and overcome by people in similar communities, as well as the lasting impact of the actions of various inspiring individuals. If you can only do one tour in this vibrant city, this should be it!
It was very eye opening and interesting. The experience also brings up a lot of emotions. If there is tour you should for sure do. It is this one. It gives back to the community. Thank you soo much for this experience.
This walking tour of the Moravia community in Comuna 4 was inspiring, educational and moving. Toto and Heroina made the history of the (ongoing) transformation of Moravia palpable and deeply human. The knowledge and personal experiences told, as well as the historical frame made it easy to understand how this particular community has grown into existence. Meeting some of those who were there from the beginning was en extra bonus. If you want to learn something else than the typical stories of Medellin, join this tour. Toto speaks very good English and we felt well taken care of the whole tour. A snack break, a visit with Heroinas friend and some curious school kids also made it special. We paid a bit more than the usual ”free but with a tip” tours but knowing that it goes toward the community makes it worth it.
Amazing local experience with local tours
It was a very intensive experience. Great tour guide and local cumminity leaders that you meet. Everybody was very nice and was impressive to see how this community preservers and lives.
Amazing experience. Toto has a breathtaking way of speaking and explaining, and Aroina gave such a warm and unique view because of her own experiences. We are still processing it all. Extremely special experience.
Very impressive story of the Barrio. The guide telling the story even better than Guardiola explaining football. Unique experience.
Incredibly moving and educational.
Amazing. So informative. Thank you.
Absolutely wonderful tour - a highlight of our trip to Colombia. Incredibly educational and shows a different side of Medellin with great care and sensitivity. Would recommend to any and all.
It’s an amazing tour with fruitful and completed story telling about the place and how strong the community is
A very interesting tour with a lot of insights about the live in the comuna but also in Medellin/Columbia. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to everyone!
I really recommend the Moravia walking tour. It shows you a side of Medellin that you wouldn‘t normally see and explains what struggles and challenges the people of Moravia deal with on the daily.
Wonderful tour with deep insights of the struggles of the barrio. Past and present. Very close and personal. You should go if you want to experience the other reality of Medellín.
Amazing and super informative tour showing the real side and history of the non-touristy parts of Medellin Highly recommend
We had an very impressive tour in Communa 4. The tour guide gave the tour together with a local community leader and their dynamic was really good. We heard personal stories, but also learned about the history of the neighbourhood. I highly recommend this tour to anybody visiting Medellín!
An incredible tour. A chance to see how a real community has come together to flight for themselves and each other. It was such a privilege to hear an actual community leader and our guide To talk about their community and share their stories with us.
Brilliant tour ! I learnt so much on this tour. Fascinating experience to learn about the vibrant Morrovia and its impressive transformation. A must do while in Medellin if you want to learn from and contribute to this wonderful community. The guide, Toto was wonderful !
My experience with real city tours was really really interesting and I can recommend it to anyone interested to understand the history and social dynamics of Comuna 4
Very interesting experience. Our gide Toto gave us a real insight into the living situations in de city. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. It's nice to know your money is used for a good cause
Thanks to Toto and Gloria we had a really interesting visit. Highly recommended
Real City tour organized an amazing tour which was definitely top class service to show the comuna 4
Toto and Gloria were incredibly generous and engaging, sharing their stories and experiences and giving an insight to life in Moravia. We were not sure about visiting comuna 13 while in Medellin and ultimately decided not to has it was repeatedly described to us as a “show” and “disneyland”. There are stories of incredible transformation and community effort all over Medellin and Colombia and this tour demonstrated that for us. If you want souvenirs, colourful murals, and dance performances, this tour is probably not for you. But if you want an insight into the communities of Medellin’s barrios and “informal” settlements then this tour will provide that.
Very nice tour with a lot of information about comuna 4. Not at all touristic
Best authentic tour learning about the history and reality of Comuna 4. Thanks to Gladis and Toto who shared insights into their lifes and resisilience in such a vivid way. Couldn’t recommend more!
Had such an authentic time with Gladys and toto who welcomed us with open arms into their community showing us the strong resilience! Would highly recommend
Loved the Comuna 4 Tour. So informative and gave a real insight into everyday life in Medellin. Special thanks to Toto and Gladys 😊
Very informed and nice guide. Open for all questions and very knowledgeable, as well as great english. Would definitely recommend, if you’d like a authentic tour through a non touristic area
Amazing authentic experience that gave us a lot of insights into real medellin life
Really enjoyed the tour. It was such an authentic experience with the 2 best guides Toto and Gladice who showed us so much within comuna 4.
Amazing tours! We did a few different ones during our trip to Medellin. We have been here many times but these tours are some of the best times of our trips!
This was such a great introduction to Colombia. I can't recommend it enough! Thank you!
This was one of the highlights of my time in Medellín. If you’re looking for a deeper understanding of the city beyond the typical tourist attractions, this is the tour to take. Toto was an outstanding guide—knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about his community. Meeting Heroína and hearing her personal story added a level of authenticity you simply can’t get from a guidebook. Her perspective, combined with Toto’s storytelling, gave real context to Medellín’s history, its challenges, and the incredible transformation the community has achieved. I left with a much greater appreciation for the resilience and pride of the people who live here. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to understand the real Medellín, not just see it.
Very informing of the transformation of the barrio
Fantastic information and value for the money. An irreproducible experience.
Amazing! Would recommend, you get to see a different side of Medellin. Toto was great loved it ;)
My friends and I heard about this tour from another friend and we couldn’t have hoped for a better experience! Our guides were local to Comuna 4 and they shared many of their own stories during the walk. This tour is great for anyone wanting to understand a bit more about Medellín’s history, specifically its relevance to Moravia!
10/10 recommend! Super informative.
