Totally worth it! Valentina and Julia were wonderful hosts--smart, funny, helpful, gracious. We had a great day!

The tour was fantastic, even for those who don’t like coffee much. The guide was friendly and informative, the tour interesting, and the lunch was phenomenal. 10/10 would do again!
WONDERFUL… we had the most amazing experience at La Casa Grande. From Walter the tour guide who flawlessly interpreted from Spanish to English including all his guests. Walter taught us so much about the history of coffee to the process of making and drinking coffee. We went up in the hills and were able to pick some coffee beans and enjoy the beautiful vistas. We had a delicious lunch and were able to meet others from around the world. Ending our experience in a coffee tasting which was so fun and informative. I consider this a MUST-DO when visiting Medellin. Thank you Walter and Daisy for the wonderful day.
This was a highlight of our trip to Medellin! Walter was a wonderful guide through the property, and shared the history of coffee as well as walking us through their steps to grow and process the beans for their coffee. The coffee is some of the best that I have ever had. We will definitely return in the future!
I was looking to just spend the afternoon with the family enjoying coffee, but received a great education on coffee! After the historical information, we were able to see each step of the process before taking a break with a delicious lunch. Finally ended the tour with a coffee tasting, and bringing everything full circle by combining everything we learned and saw earlier in the day. Definitely recommend as it's just outside of the city and a great way to learn about the culture while visiting.
We LOVED our coffee farm tour here with Walter. The property is beautiful and idyllic, the lunch meal was excellent, delicious and healthy. We learned SO much about coffee through the picking beans to the demonstration of how they are made through to the tasting. I feel like I know how to appreciate coffee better now and also how to prepare it in the best way!
I can’t recommend this tour enough for solo travelers! The staff made everything from booking to pick up seamless with quick communication through What’s app. The farm itself is 100 years old and all the staff are incredibly warm and welcoming. You get to experience a true bean to cup experience with an incredible home cooked lunch and views of the surrounding countryside only a short drive from the city. Thank you to Walter for all your knowledge and the staff for sharing this experience and all your knowledge.
This was a beautiful estate/farm and a wonderful tour. Our guide was able to answer all of our questions (in both Spanish and English) and I learned a lot! The animals at the farm are so cute and friendly. There was also a delicious lunch served. Highly recommend!
We loved the tour. Very educational. Walter worked overtime in spanish, English, and French. We saw a bit of wildlife and enjoyed good food and coffee.
What an amazing experience. The driver picked us up at a meetup spot near out hotel (and he drove us home to the same spot). We started with a cup of coffee while our tour guide gave us a run down of the day. Then we suited up and walked up the hills to look at the coffee cherries on the trees. We went through the process of cherry to cup and pet all the house animals along the way. The property itself is beautiful and I could have stayed there all day. Then we ate a delicious homemade lunch with the entire staff. We got to know them as well as the origins of the property from the owner who also dined with us. We ended the day with a guided tasting! I would highly recommend.
The coffee plantation tour at la Casa Grande was exceptional. Walter’s knowledge of local history as well as his knowledge of coffee history made for a one of a kind tour. The small group, home cooked meal and coffee tasting was a wonderfully intimate experience emphasizing, once again, the passion of the Colombian people. I would recommend this tour to anyone.
We had a very pleasant and informative half day, ending with an excellent tasting session. We all learned a lot, even the kids (11 and 14) who got into the tasting experience as well. It starts with meeting outside a nice hotel in the El Poblado neighborhood, then a 30-45 minute car ride up into the mountains with lots of nice views along the way. We were lucky to have perfect weather, which made the farm and house look even more beautiful. We sat all together for 30-45 minutes learning from our guide over an introductory drink, then headed up the mountain to see plants in various stages and to pick berries from mature plants. Came back and went through some of the steps for selecting and drying the berries, etc. Followed by a tour through the house that has been in the family for generations, and nice group lunch where we enjoyed talking with the other people. Finally the tasting, which covered 5 different kinds of coffee. This one cost a little more than other tours, but everything was first rate so I suspect it was worth it.
Fantastic day! Arrived to a friendly guide named Alejandro. He was so informative and fun. He explained how the beans looked from berry to beans with baskets of each. We tasted them and learned so much. Then we put on some hats, ponchos and baskets for our trip into the hills to pick berries. After picking, we learned how to remove the outer shell and how to dry them. In addition, we planted a few beans. Following a fabulous lunch family style, everyone enjoyed a coffee tasting and fruit and caramel candy. After an explanation of different ways to process, ferment, and grind beans we were exposed to styles of brewing techniques and tastings. Great day with friendly guides, assistants and the owner. Take this tour, you won’t regret it. It does involve some uphill and uneven hiking. Not suitable for unsteady or easily tiring older adults.
Awesome experience up in the hills of Medellin!! Urban farming !! The guide was amazing ! The lunch was delicious ! Great tour !!! Really enjoyed it ! Learned a lot about coffee!!
This is my second trip to Medellin and this is probably my favorite tour I’ve ever taken here. The property is beautiful and the guides knowledgeable and friendly. Lunch was great and the coffee tasting was amazing. Makes me want to branch out and try more small batch coffees rather than always stick to my mass produced everyday coffee. Makes you appreciate the differences in the coffees you drink. Wear shoes you don’t mind getting muddy. I didn’t find the bugs too bad at all, but I would suggest you follow the directions on their site and wear long pants and sleeves, and bring bug spray. They had some but it’s helpful to have your own. I highly recommend this tour!
Fantastic tour, great drivers and fantastic coffee “journey”. Highly recommend! Our whole family went and while there is some hiking to get to the coffee plants, it was well worth it.
I visited with three of my friends. The setting was beautiful, the staff were very friendly, and the coffee was great. It was a very interesting and memorable way to spend the day learning about coffee. I thought the lunch was outstanding - it was served family style. One of the highlights of our trip to Medellin
Memorable local experience visiting a Colombian coffee farm. Lots of information about coffee bean harvesting, roasting and grinding. Would definitely recommend. 10/10!!
This tour was one of the best tours I've done, it was incredible. Everyone at the finca was so kind, and I learned so much about the process of coffee cultivation. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visit the area/Medellín. The farm animals were also such a sweet bonus, Paca is such a good dog!
This Bean to Cup Experience was a definite highlight of our group's trip. Our host, Julie was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging. The tour felt very complete and well paced as we got to experience and participate in seeing the coffee go “from bean to cup." Their space is beautiful, as we got to enjoy time both learning about their history, and interacting with the animals that they have on the farm (their dogs are extremely cute). At the end of the tour, it was fun to participate in a coffee tasting, where we were able to try 4-5 different samples from their farm. They were delicious, and we even bought beans to bring home. The traditional Colombian lunch that the tour provided was everything that we could have asked for. Lastly, this is a fun experience to do with other travelling groups as well.
This experience was everything a coffee lover could ask for! Julie and the Casa Grande team lead us through a rich and detailed account of coffee’s place in Colombia both historically and ecologically. Being able to pick coffee right from the plant while overlooking the endless green jungle was a memory I will cherish for the rest of my life! I learned so much about the immense amount of labour that goes into coffee production, and this experienced opened my eyes to new ways I can love coffee. The provided home cooked meal in the historic Hacienda felt like I was welcomed as a guest of the family, and of course the provided coffee was nothing short of delicious.
What an amazing experience! I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this tour and I’m not even a coffee enthusiast. The hacienda is a beautiful 18th century house with a large serene property. We were greeted by Julie, our tour guide, who was so knowledgeable and kind. There are also a number of loose happy dogs on the property but they were very polite and honestly lovely. I learned so much about the coffee plant, the harvesting process, and about how much labor goes into a cup of coffee! After walking around the property, we had some time to chill on the hacienda balcony porch and I just loved how peaceful it was. I never felt rushed and took my time enjoying the tour. We had a traditional family-style lunch and it was one of the top meals I has during this trip - amazing! The tour finishes with a coffee tasting where we learn how flavours are added to coffee. They provided 5 espresso cups of coffee and I was so satisfied by the end of the tour. I ended up buying coffee beans and coffee tea. Without a doubt, I would recommend this tour to everyone I know.
What a great experience! We both loved the tour. Walter was extremely knowledgeable. We got to walk through the coffee farm and pick some ripe berries. Lunch was fantastic and we also met the owner.
Great Day, the highlight of our stay in Medellin! It's simply nice, doesn't feel touristy but genuine. Walter (?) and Co turned it into an experience!
The tour was incredible. Highly recommend if you want an immersive experience that has phenomenal views, education, delicious lunch, interesting information and top tier coffee. We had Alejandro as our guide, and hope we’re lucky enough to have him again when we go back. He was fantastic. He also went out of his way to translate for both English and Spanish speakers. 5 stars, 10 out of 10, two thumbs up, etc. Insert your favorite evaluative expression for a perfect experience and that’s both La Casa Grande Hacienda and Alejandro.
This was one of the highlights of our two-week trip to Colombia. We were picked up and returned to a general meeting spot and driven to the coffee plantation. Our tour guide was Alejandro. He was very entertaining, informative, knowledgeable, and friendly. We were given an excellent introduction to coffee farming, including the opportunity to go up into the mountain to pick coffee. A full-sized lunch was provided as well as coffee tasting. We would highly recommend this experience. Such good value for the experience. We can't say enough of Alejandro and the staff at the hacienda and the fantastic day we had (8.5 hours from pick-up to drop-off)
Walter and crew were excellent hosts! The tour itself was fantastic and I can’t recommend it enough. If you’re a coffee lover you can’t miss this! The lunch provided was delicious as well.
Beautiful location, fascinating tour led by Walter who was equally knowledgeable about the social history of coffee as well as the details of the cultivation process. Delicious lunch and tasting has inspired a new relationship w coffee
Did the tour with a group of friends and from the time we arrived to the minute we left we had an amazing time. Just the morning cup of coffee in the morning admiring the sights and introduction was a pleasure. Our tour guides Walter, Liz, and Paca (el perro) were fun, very knowledgeable and overall amazing! I would highly recommend the tour as not only is it very informative of the whole process of making coffee but the location and sights are stunning!
Fun and informative day! Their driver picked us up in El Poblado and drove us through parts of Medellin that we hadn’t seen before (really cool!). We arrived at the finca in Santa Elena where we were greeted by our guide who served us some great coffee and gave us a brief history of the finca. We then donned traditional attire and climbed up to the fields to pick coffee cherries and learn about coffee varieties. We brought our harvest back to the hacienda to learn about the different drying and processing methods. They served a fantastic Colombian lunch where we met the finca owner (great guy). Finally we had a great and super informative lecture and coffee tasting in the tasting room.
This was one of the best tours I have ever taken. I learned so much! The lunch was delicious and the hacienda was beautiful. Daniella’s zeal was evident in the way she taught us. It was all so enjoyable.
I chose this tour because it felt more authentic than many of the coffee tours in Medellín which are clearly artificial plantations designed for tourist entertainment (although I'm sure those are fun too!). Casa Grande is a 7th generation hacienda and genuine historic home, so while there's no "coffee spa" or swimming pool, it's beautiful, calm, and authentic. I visited today for the coffee tour, booked directly via WhatsApp, and this was a perfect half day adventure. It's worth going for the views of Medellín alone, which are spectacular, but if you're remotely interested in coffee, you'll learn lots too (and enjoy the beautiful historic house, almost 200 years old). Our kind guide was very patient with the group's many questions and nothing was too much trouble. We learned the basics of coffee production, then went out into the plantation to pick some coffee cherries, processed them by hand, and visited other production areas, including drying and roasting to learn about the full process. After a lunch break, an absolutely delicious meal served family style in the house, we had the opportunity to taste several coffees and understand how the different processing styles affect the flavour. Say hi to the goat, dog and cats too!
Walter was a great host and guide. The tour mixed learning about the history of coffee with exploring the plantation, picking coffee cherries and learning about depulping, drying and roasting. We planted seeds and ate a lovely lunch before tasting. Great fun and well structured.
We had an excellent time at La Casa Grande! It was definitely eye opening and made our trip to Medellin 1000x better. Allowed us to meet some wonderful people from other countries. Our tour guide was Walter and he was amazing. He has so much knowledge on the history of coffee and explained everything so simply, allowing all of us to understand both in English and Spanish. The tour itself was very educational, was more than what we expected. Bug spray was provided as well as a bottle of water for every individual. Definitely wear comfortable clothes and shoes. The food was delicious and well prepared. Don’t leave Medellín without going here!
The tour was amazing from the start to the end, the coffee tasting and homemade food. I fell in love with coffee for a second time. A must experience.
From Poblado it took a 40 minutes ride to Santa Elena, a village in the east side mountains of Medellin. (about the same time to come back, plus a little extra for traffic. Beautiful landscapes within an immersive experience through the coffee plantations. There were a few surprises during the tour that I loved. No spoilers. We were served a traditional lunch with veggie options available also the juice was divine. You will taste and learn about different varieties and techniques to prepare the perfect cup while coffee tasting and paring dessert. I would suggest to wear long pants and covered comfortable shoes as you will be walking around the different areas. I was told to bring some bug spray, but didn't feel like I needed it. I do recommend sunscreen and sun protection. If you want to buy coffee from the hacienda bring cash or Venmo. P.S. If you get Walter as your guide you are in for a treat!
My friend and I absolutely LOVED our coffee tour experience. Having now understood the whole process of 'bean to cup' we can now fully appreciate a good tasting cup of coffee. Everything was explained well and the lunch was delicious. Thank you for a brilliant trip. P.s. the goat was funny!
We had such a fun time at La casa grande! We learned about coffee history and were able to interact with the land. The guides were excellent and very welcoming. We appreciate that Dani was bilingual and fluidly kept the group engaged. We also had a delicious vegan meal.
This was a great experience, and I’m not even a coffee drinker! Danny and Alexa gave a great overview of how the entire process works from planting the seeds, tending the seedlings, harvesting, separating, soaking and roasting the beans (I’m skipping a lot!) They bounced between English and Spanish easily, prepared an amazing lunch, and finished off with a tasting of all their different blends. We connected with so many great people during our time there, and the entire experience was wonderful. This is definitely a great tour to add to your itinerary, as coffee is one of Colombia’s great exports!
The best tour of our trip!! We were picked up from a super convenient location in El Poblado. The tour was fun, interactive and informative. Probably the best lunch we had while in Medellin. My husband is a vegetarian and they were super accommodating and gave him an excellent veggie option for lunch. The property was beautiful and pretty close to the city! Our tour guides Dani, Valentina and Alexa were so fun and made us really feel at home. We cannot recommend this tour enough!
The tour itself was good and I would recommend it. The organisation and communication of the transfers to and from the tour really let it down. We bought through viator and it said hotel pick up was included. We tried to contact viator and the casa grande the day before as we had heard nothing about our hotel pickup. The morning of the tour we spent ages trying to get hold of someone to ask. Very stressful. At 0850 we were told to get 5km across town to a group pickup as they don't do hotel pick ups any more, by 9am. We took a taxi. At the pick up point it was really disorganised and without being asked we were crammed into a car with too many people (4 people in 3 seats). The car journey back was the same, and the driver was quite erratic and dangerous (texting on his phone much of the time). We were also moved car several times as they were so disorganised, wasting at least 20 minutes. We enjoyed the tour and learnt lots, if they sort out the transport then it will be great.
Host cancelled the activity less that ine day before the activity. If i did not write the host they won’t let me know. I didn’t go to this activity but I don’t recommend it as the host is very rude.
This is A MUST! The whole coffee experience you need to have in Medellin. The hacienda is only 30mins away from Medellin and the tour includes transportation. Our tour guide, Alejandro welcomed us with a friendly chat to break the ice of the group and started telling us a fantastic story about coffee and also, great coffee. Then, he guided us towards the plantations and we were able to do some coffee hand picking! Then the tour continued with the different processes done after coffee is harvested, great tasting lunch and finally, coffee tasting!!! It’s a very close heart warming experiences YOU NEED TO INCLUDE IN YOUR PLANS!
This is one of my favorite tours anywhere. The entire experience was delightful. The tour guide (Dani) was knowledgeable, funny, engaging, and energetic. The information was really well presented and interesting. The activities were fun. I really enjoyed spending some time picking the beans. The lunch was very good and the coffee tasting was incredibly useful to me as someone who wants to better appreciate coffee. I cannot recommend this tour enough!
Great way to spend the day!!! Beautiful farm and really cool to see the whole process of coffee. Our tour guide was funny and knowledgable. Highly recommend going to visit when you're in Medellín!
We made a reservation on November 23rd to take the tour on the 24th. As part of making the reservation, it was required to select one of the pickup locations offered. We chose Hotel Dann Carlton. We were. It staying at this hotel, but stayed near it. We arrived at the hotel for the 10:00 pickup but no one came. We called Viator to validate the pickup location. They told us that the Dann Carlton hotel was indeed the location. They called the tour operator who said that the reservation arrived too late the day before and they were not able to honor it. They agreed to adjust the tour to the following day. The following day, we returned to the Dann Carlton, but again, no one arrived to pick us up. It turns out that they changed the pickup location and this change did not reach me in time. To be fair to the tour operator, I feel they definitely made the attempt to reach me in several ways but I had swapped my domestic Verizon SIMM card for a Colombian Claro SIMM car, so was not reachable by phone. I’m not sure why the operator found it necessary to change the pickup location but the moral of the story is that it may be good to validate details of this tour directly with the tour operator. As it turned out, we lost the opportunity for a meaningful tour for both of our days in Medellin even though on both days, we were at the pickup location chosen at the time we made the reservation. It’s a shame because those who have taken this tour had only the best comments. We will try this tour next time we visit Medellin.
An amazing experience not only for the adults, but our 2 boys (13,11) loved it as well. The farm, the location, the view and the staff were informative, fun and simply a pleasure.
As a bit of a coffee fanatic and a home roaster I have been wanting to visit a coffee farm for well over a decade. This experience did not disappoint. Elizabeth was an outstanding host and tour guide. Although I was somewhat familiar with the concepts of picking and processing coffee it was great to experience to see it live and I learned so much. I also enjoyed, with Elizabeth's guidance, tasting the various edible plants as we toured. I had never heard about half of those plants. I hope to find wasabi lettuce again one day. The setting was beautiful and the home made lunch was delicious. Tasting the final product at the end of the tour was a great touch. The coffee is excellent. I am grateful to Elizabeth for sharing her knowledge and putting up with my multiple questions.
What an amazing day we had here on the plantation. It’s a super peaceful setting right outside of Medellín and the plantation is beautiful. We learned a ton about Colombian coffee and had a unique experience picking, planting and trying different coffees. The lunch that was served was phenomenal and completely farm to table. They made pickup and drop off as easy as possible and were so happy we got to experience this tour.
We had a great time on the coffee farm with Elizabeth. She is an excellent guide and the farm has everything you need to know about coffee.
