The guides were very friendly and knowledgeable. The people at the farm as well. We really enjoyed learning about the process of chocolate from bean to bar. It was hands on and the fruit was amazing, definitely recommend this tour. Thanks Julie, Julio, Sandra, and Sandra's Mom!!

The Chocolate Farm tour is a must for everyone. This experience was the highlight of my Medellin trip. It was worth the price and more as this was an experience worth more than the cost. The tour started with being picked up at my AirBNB so I didn’t have to Uber to any meetup location. Oscar picked each of us up in a BYD vehicle that made the trip to and from the farm EXTREMELY comfortable, so much so that I fell asleep on the ride back to my AirBNB. During the ride to the farm Oscar provided tour guide information about each building, city or location we passed. As we climbed the road to get to the farm he provided additional information about plants and animals that we encountered. Once at the farm we were introduced to the family who owns and runs the farm and they welcomed us like family. The farm tour officially starts by us walking through the farm and Oscar point out the various plants or fruit trees, as the farm grows more than just cocoa. During the tour we were able to sample various fruit grown in the farm. Then we learned about the growing stages/process of the cocoa plant. We then got to pick ripe cocoa from the different variations of cocoa plants. We saw the lab where the family makes their chocolate treats for market and was able to sample the freshest white chocolate I’ve ever tasted in my life. Then we returned to the area where they start the chocolate making process. We were met by fresh glasses of the best lemonade I’ve ever tasted made from fresh lemons and panela from the farm. So good and fresh that I asked for some to take back to my AirBNB for later. We separated the chocolate seeds from the pods that we picked off the trees. We ere able to taste them at each stage of the process. Then they showed us what the drying process looks like and how the taste changes at each stage at each stage. Then we got to experience the roasting process after the seeds had dried and again tasted them. Then we sat down and peeled the roasted seeds to just expose the final smooth cocoa seed that is ready to make chocolate. Then we ground the seeds into the paste which allows for it to be molded and combined with flavors to make the desired chocolate bar that we desired. After we made our chocolate bars, they were placed in the freezer to harden and we were served fresh bread and hot chocolate fresh from the farms cocoa. Once the chocolate bars finished freezing we were able to separate them from the mold and either enjoy them or pack them up to bring home. We also had the opportunity to taste and purchase chocolate the farm had already prepare for market. After we finished and they packed up our purchases for travel we headed back to each of our lodging destinations. A wonderful, family friendly and unique once in a lifetime experience.
Oscar is a class act and a very good tour guide. He is so knowledgeable on the land, cacao, conditions and many other topics. Genuine joy to converse with. I would recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys nature, chocolate, getting out of the city and exploring the Paisa.
We spent 10 days in Medellin and Jardin and this was my favorite thing we did during our vacation! This tour was INCREDIBLE. Our guide, Oscar, was so warm and kind and helpful. He did a great job of engaging our kids in the tour and conversation and made it all really accessible and fun. We speak Spanish so we did our tour in Spanish but his English was also quite good so I think either is an option. We drove about 1.5 hours to this beautiful family owned finca where Sandra and Oscar led us on a chocolate making journey. We got to learn about the different types of cacao plants, pick the fruit, scrape out and taste the seeds, then we learned about the process to go from seed to chocolate bar. My kids loved grinding the chocolate into powder themselves, choosing their flavors/ingredients to mix in and making their own chocolates. The setting is serene and beautiful and the family was very kind and welcoming. I 100% recommend!
I did not know what to expect when I signed up. I felt it would be interesting to learn the process of making chocolate. It was much more than that. I had Oscar as my guide. He was awesome, explaining regions and history on our drive up. When at the location which is extremely beautiful we met with the family that runs the farm. They were welcoming and friendly and it was such an organic experience. Picking the Cocao, seeing and experiencing the process. Being part of the process. I absolutely loved this. The chocolate was phenomenal. By the time you’re done it’s sad leaving. You really feel like family.
Amazing private tour. Guide spoke excellent English. They pick you up at your hotel. Drive about 50 mins from city to the countryside and go in very steep hills to get to the finca(country farm). Once there you will be greeted by the family and farm dogs running cacao farm. They will provide special boots. They will walk you around the cacao farm and explain the various types of cacao they grow. You will pick cacao directly from the tree. You then get to taste the fruit itself. And learn about the fermentation process. Roast and then deshell the seeds. They will let you sample the cacao percentages. We chose 100%. You will then grind it and get to mold your own chocolate and can add ingredients to your liking. We added cinnamon, ginger, powdered milk, salt etc. they will put in freezer to set. Then you get drink fresh hoy chocolate with warm bread. It’s hard to explain just how beautiful of an experience it is to enjoy this light meal while bird watching and seeing the majestic Mountain Views. In addition to taking home the chocolates you made. You can purchase the best grade caca for crazy cheap money 20-40k Colombian pesos. About 5-10 American dollars. I normally pay 60-100 in the states for good quality cacao. It is labeled so you can bring it home.this is way better than what’s available back home.
Went on a chocolate tour on a farm high in the mountains north of Medellin. Tour guide (Oscar) was excellent, giving us history of a lot of the sights on the way, excellent English and kept us entertained. Tour was just me and my wife but Oscar and the people at the farm made us feel like friends. Cost was quite reasonable, especially given the details and personal touch of the tour. The location itself was amazing - just the variety of plants, fruits, flowers, birds... It would have been worth it just for that! The insight into how chocolate is made was fascinating with hands-on every step of the process. Would go again in a heartbeat! Had a 5 out of 5 time, no complaints! (Other than that I'll never be able to be satisfied with Hershey's chocolate again! ;) )
The chocolate tour was fantastic. We experienced the whole process of chocolate making in a super peaceful, welcoming environment. We also saw S learned about other plants /fruits and birds! Oscar was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and accommodating.
Very informative and authentic down home country farm. The owners were very friendly, and showed all fruit trees, coffee plants, and three different chocolate varieties. Also, the farm was picturesque with many different flowers. Of course, you could not ask for a better guide.
Everything was perfectly done. Will recommend to family and friends!! All the guides were very knowledgeable and professional.
Thank you so much for such an amazing day! It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life, and I loved every moment of it! It took us only an hour to get there, but it felt like arriving in paradise. The nature was incredible, the family was wonderful, and the chocolate was delicious! I bought a lot as gifts for my friends and family in France and Russia. I hope to come back one day! Many thanks to our guide Yuly — she was fantastic!
We had an amazing day with Oscar learning all about growing cacao and producing chocolate. The setting is gorgeous, and it was really great getting to do every part of the process first hand, with our own chocolate at the end. Sandra and her family were incredible hosts, and we had the best time at their beautiful farm.
I had a really great time learning about the full process of growing cacao and turning it into chocolate. It was really fun to be able to make my own chocolate bar using traditional methods. Oscar (the guide) was very knowledgable and the family were very friendly. The hotel pick-up was also very convenient. I would thoroughly recommend this tour!
This was probably the best chocolate experience I’ve done, even after having traveled to Europe. Most chocolate tours I’ve been on talk you through the process of making chocolate, then you are presented with a bunch of chocolates that you can buy. This tour was different in that you start in the actual field, picking some of the cocoa pods from the tree. Sandra, who makes the chocolate, takes you through every step of the process and you do most of the work! You pick the pods, dig out the seed s (you can eat the pulp around the seed and it’s actually pretty good!), roast them, peel the cocoa beans with a Sandra and her mother, then decide how much sugar to add to your chocolate. You’ll have to do the tour to know the rest of the process! Yuly was my guide for the day and took me out to the farm and she was fantastic to converse with and exchange information about our countries. Her outgoing personality made the tour so much better!

If you can only do one day trip from Medellín, take this tour. Oscar is a fabulous guide and Sandra and Alicia are a very gracious mother/daughter team that opens their house and farm to visitors. It's a hands on tour, from picking the cacao pods to roasting and grinding the beans and making your own chocolate bars with custom flavors. It's a much shorter ride than going to Guatapé, and you still get the sense of the mountains outside Medellín. Their farm is also filled with coffee trees, and various fruit trees and flowers. Lots of birds too! One of the most authentic tours we've ever been on, and we have visited dozens of countries. Don't hesitate to book it!
Wonderful experience! Visiting this small finca near Medellín was an unforgettable experience. Our guide, Oscar, was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, making the journey both educational and enjoyable. The family who runs the farm welcomed us with open arms. We had the unique opportunity to participate in every step of the chocolate-making process and crafting our own chocolate bars. The farm's serene setting and the family's warmth made this tour a highlight of our trip. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an authentic and immersive experience.
Our chocolate-making tour with Oscar was an incredibly insightful and delightful experience. From the very start, the journey was filled with engaging activities, beginning with a scenic ride and immersive trips among the towering trees. One of the highlights was cracking open fresh cocoa pods, giving us a genuine, hands-on feel for the process. Tasting cocoa at every stage of its transformation—from raw beans to fermented, and finally to baked—was a truly fascinating journey for the senses. We even had the chance to create our very own chocolate, customizing it with an array of extra spices and ingredients to suit our tastes. Adding to the charm, there was an option to purchase some of the exquisite chocolates crafted by the family on the farm—each bite reflecting their passion and expertise. The atmosphere was warm and homey, with the comforting aroma of coffee in the air and the delightful sounds of birds chirping nearby as we relaxed on the veranda. It was an unforgettable experience that blended learning, creativity, and the simple joys of nature.
Magnificent, best experience so far in colombia. We really appreciate our experience as a family. I would recommend
We've taken many tours around the world, and this was truly one of the best! It felt like an authentic experience rather than a typical tourist attraction. The family on the farm was incredibly kind and welcoming—we felt like we were visiting close relatives. We learned so much about the chocolate-making process and loved sampling the delicious treats along the way. The farm itself sits atop a mountain with beautiful views, making the experience even more special. Our guide, Yuly, had such a wonderful personality, making the tour both comfortable and enjoyable. I highly recommend it!
Very informative. Our guide was incredible! We learned souch from your guide and the family farm. Fantastic tour!
I had never realized that making chocolate (as in good, dark, organic chocolate) could be 1/ so hard, 2/ so much fun, 3/ so rewarding. The tour organizers are top-notch: knowledgeable and interesting. Efren’s finca –with its gorgeous vistas over the valley– is a welcomed refuge from Medellín’s hurly burly, just 90 minutes away. Highly recommended.
This is one of the best tours we have ever done! Oscar was great and the family farm we went to was such a great experience. We highly recommend it!
We had an amazing time! This tour was the highlight of our trip so far! Oscar is the man. We would recommend this tour to anyone!
Oscar made the journey to our destination very interesting because he told us many things about Medellin. Our hosts at the chocolate farm were welcoming and it was clear there was a good bond between them and Oscar. We were shown the cacao on the trees, then we picked some and tasted them . Sandra and Oscar showed us the process of making our individual chocolate bars from beginning to end . We had chocolate to drink with bread and cheese whilst overlooking the amazing views. A great experience .
We had a splendid day being driven to the chocolate farm. Not having to stress over traffic was a big plus. The tour was enjoyable. The driver, the host, and the guide were all delightful.
What a fun trip we had. The whole thing was very relaxed and Oscar kept us entertained with good conversation the whole car ride to the plantation. We loved that this was a family business and felt welcomed into their home. Oscar had a great rapport with us and our hosts, which made things very enjoyable. The scenery, wildlife, and growing process were stunning. Learning the processes and making our own chocolate was so much fun. I would recommend this tour to anyone looking for a low-key adventure outside of Medellin. Have fun!
The chocolate tour to join if you're looking for one around Medelline! Yuly and Sandra have been ever so hospitable, and the travel time wasn't too long, and the farm itself is delightful, not only with chocolate but also scattered an abundance of organically grown fruits and herbs. First-hand experience in learning about cacao and chocolate making, tasting the fruit at every stage. Even if you might not consider yourself a chocolate fan, your taste buds would be surprised! (And if you're a chocolate lover, you'd even cherish them more!
This tour was wonderful. Your guide Oscar speaks excellent English and will take you to a farm in the highlands north of Medellin. Sandra and her family welcome you to the property with warmth and hospitality. Senor Efren designed and planted everything you will see and taste- many plants and fruits I have never heard of before. Then you will pick the cocoa from the tree and begin the process of farm to table chocolate creation. I will cherish the memory of this very special experience.
If you are frightened of heights then you might want to skip the tour of the farm because there are narrow paths on the edge of hills and one narrow bridge that was difficult to cross (they helped me). The whole process of making chocolate was explained (very similar to coffee) and you get to make your own custom chocolate to your specifications. Not bad! Yula is a world traveler and has spent a lot of time in the U.S. and Europe so she was very knowledgeable about cultures outside of Colombia and has plenty of interesting stories and advice to share.
We had an amazing time! Our tour guide, Oscar, and the farm family was wonderful! And the views were amazing!!! Give it an A+!
This tour was a fantastic experience for me and my friends. We learned a lot about the process of making chocolate and the finished product was delicious. The hosts could speak English very well and answered all of our questions. I highly recommend it for anybody visiting Medellín, especially from the United States
Yuly my guide was excellent. We had great conversations from the time we met to when we departed. Being the only person on the tour made the experience more memorable from Yuly to the owners of the farm and interacting with them hands on learning the knowledge from the cocoa plant from the seed to the final product chocolate. I recommend this tour to anyway looking for a hands on experience, a local farm and family; also an escape from the crowds.
Yuly was an amazing guide and made the day for me and my daughter truly special. Spending time on the family farm was incredible. We enjoyed learning about all of the plants, animals, and the entire chocolate making process. Highly recommend this activity for young families and those generally curious about chocolate.
We had a private tour of the farm, Oscar throughly explained everything and answered all our questions about anything and everything. The family at the farm were lovely and extremely friendly. The experience was extremely unique picking the cacao beans and processing them, we also tried other fruits on the farm. I’d highly recommend the experience to anyone who is interested in the origin of chocolate.
Fantastic activity, got to explore a cacao farm with coffee plants and other exotic fruits. Saw the different varieties and Oscar explained everything perfectly, I enjoyed making my own chocolate and tasting the farm produce. Would recommend!
We had an outstanding time on the chocolate tour. Oscar was a great coordinator and tour guide….as well as Sandra and her mom. It was super interesting and we both enjoyed our time at the farm.
Everything from our pleasant, knowledgeable and charming guide Oscar to the sweet welcoming family on the farm and of course the actual experience of making chocolate yourself from start to finish was a fantastic experience. Can only be recommended.
I did a solo tour with Laura. She was wonderful to be around, and the family whose farm we went to were very kind people who answered all my questions about the process. It was very cozy, low key, calm, relaxing, but very informative. My favorite part was eating the actual cacao fruit. It was such a privilege. The chocolate making was also very fun. The farm is only an hour away from the city and makes for a really great day trip to escape the hustle and bustle of Medellin.
Great tour. Beautiful farm, fun and informative learning experience. Tour guide was very knowledgeable.
The tour was fascinating. We loved that it was just the two of us. The family that owned the farm was so kind and welcoming. We were able to see the whole chocolate making process. We plan to come back next year with friends and will take them on the same tour.
The cacao farm tour was a great experience! Yuly was my tour guide and she was nice and knowledgeable about everything in the region. The farm is located in a beautiful valley and you will learn everything you need to know about how cacao is grown, harvested, and refined into chocolate. There are a lot of hands-on experiences throughout the whole process, and you finish by making your own chocolate bars and enjoying some delicious homemade snacks. I recommend this tour to anyone who wants to learn more about chocolate and farming in the beautiful Antioquia region.
It was a very unique experience to see how the chocolate is made from farm to table. The people running the farm are also extremely nice and warm
This was honestly one of the coolest and most memorable days I’ve had! Yulia brought us to the farm owned by Sandra and I could not have felt more welcome. Sandra and Yulia showed us every step of the chocolate process, from picking our own pod off the tree to making our own chocolate bars. Sandra and her family welcomed us into their home and treated us like family. We also got to see some other fruits and vegetables growing, got to know the community, and Medellin as a whole. Yulia also showed us how the tourism to Sandra’s farm is directly helping her family expand the business. It was truly a day I will remember for a long time!
This is the 3rd tour in as many days with this company. (Comuna 13, coffee and now cocoa) I thought the coffee tour yesterday was the best tour in Medellín, but this tour today was definitely the best, it could not be topped. It does involve chocolate so that’s hard to beat. Saw a lot of beautiful birds, including woodpeckers. If you can get Sara as a guide you cannot have a bad tour. I would give it 10 stars if I could. Wonderful family at the farm, very genuine and authentic people.
This was our best tour ever. The guide had a lot of information about everything, he explained us all. The family on the farm in mountains was very very nice and we felt very pleasant and frendly. We picket the cocoa corns, we tasted everything, all our questions were answered. We can buy fantastic chocolate. 100% recommendation. Thanks for this tour :)
Yuly was an excellent translator and guide for Sandra and her family farm. It was a unique experience seeing the cocoa beans directly on the trees. I’ve been to other chocolate tours and this is one of the top ones. Thanks for a great bean to bar experience.
Wonderful tour! A must do when you’re in Medellin 😍 our guide Oscar is a very passionate person with a personal touch.
Fantastic! Beatiful farm and view, warm welcome by lovely family and the most friendly guide (Oscar) who knows everything about the chocolate progress. He explained all in fluent English with a personal touch. It was great!
We had a wonderful experience with our guide, Oscar. He was very knowledgeable not just on the chocolate making process but of Colombia with its rich history. We visited a small farm that practice sustainable farming in growing their cacao trees. We learned so much from the experience. Sandra and her family, who owned the farm were so warm and welcoming, treated us like we were part of the family. Certainly a 5 star experience.
