We had the most wonderful stay at Protea Hotel Gaborone Masa Square! The staff were absolutely incredible and made us feel so welcome throughout our stay. A special mention has to go to Bumi, who made our breakfasts such a lovely part of each day. He was so kind and attentive, and would even make sure we had a takeaway coffee before heading off to work in the morning. It was such a thoughtful touch and really made our stay feel extra special. We would happily come back again! If you're passing through Gaborone, this hotel is absolutely worth a stay. 😊

“A World-Class Experience with Genuine Heart & Exceptional Hospitality” 🇧🇼 My wife Kate and I stayed at the Protea Hotel Masa Square in Gaborone, Botswana for over a month (July 1 – August 3, 2026), and overall, the experience was deeply memorable. From the excitement of the FIFA ⚽️ event—where the energy was high and the staff truly treated us like royalty—to the everyday convenience, Protea delivers a fantastic stay. Having traveled extensively around the world, I value environments designed with human connection in mind, and the team here truly makes you feel like family. “The Highlights & Culinary Delights” 🥙🥂 The location is unbeatable. Having a movie theater downstairs and Fields Mall right across the street made day-to-day living incredibly convenient. As for the dining, both Soya and Carlitos were outstanding. With Kate’s background in the culinary world, she was thoroughly impressed—even connecting and making great friends on the culinary side with talented pros like Chef O. The food quality throughout our stay was top-tier. “Navigating the Friction Points” 😣🧭 As a U.S. military veteran, I appreciate clear standards, operational discipline, and good communication. We did run into a notable issue with noise compliance. Ongoing construction work directly below us and from a nearby tenet, combined with the restaurant DJ at Soya turning the volume up far too high past reasonable hours, created significant disruption. However, what defines great service is how a team handles adversity. “World-Class Service & Recovery” 🎖️😊 We had to relocate rooms three times to escape the noise, but the staff’s responsiveness was phenomenal: * Bonnie assisted us with our room moves seamlessly. She was proactive, patient, and executed the logistics with total excellence. * Andrew Kamanga (COO) personally stepped in to meet with us, listen to our concerns, and resolve the situation. Andrew is a masterclass in customer relationship management—approachable, solution-oriented, and genuine. “Final Verdict” 👨🏾⚖️ While the city noise compliance and construction acoustics need tightening up, the human element at this hotel far outweighs the temporary disruptions. The staff’s empathy, warmth, and commitment to guest satisfaction are unmatched. We will absolutely be returning to Protea Marriott. A massive thank you to Andrew, Bonnie, Thespang, Chef O, and the entire team for taking care of us like family! ❤️ Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.5)
Excellent service after a week long stay. The staff are so friendly, hospitable, and generous. The rooms were tidied daily and the staff did everything to help accommodate our large groups needs from the US which can mean we are a little needy. They made us feel so welcome and comfortable. Would stay here again every year! Some of the best service I have ever receive worldwide. May God bless Judith and her staff!
This was definitely a rather disappointing property in the Protea/Marriott brand. The room was reportedly a complimentary upgrade but if this is the upgrade, I’d hate to see the actual room I booked. The staff appear helpful but do not address any needs that come up. The area is incredibly noisy in the evening, the bathroom is cramped, the coffee machine leaks water everywhere and the tv didn’t work…all issues that I made staff aware of without being addressed. I definitely won’t be staying at this property in the near future
I recently stayed at the Protea Masa Square and it remains the best base for business in Gaborone. The location is unbeatable—right in the middle of Masa Square with restaurants like News Cafe and Caravela just steps away. The Highlights: The rooftop pool and bar are world-class for sundowners, and the breakfast buffet is genuinely impressive with a wide international variety. The staff, particularly at reception, are incredibly attentive. The Fine Print: Rooms are modern with very comfortable memory foam beds, though some standard rooms feel a bit snug if you have a lot of luggage. There is some ongoing refurbishment in 2026, so ask for a recently updated room to ensure the best experience. Solid 4/5 stars.
