Itinerary
We meet at the heart of the city — the exact site of Boston's founding — directly across from Faneuil Hall. While the group gathers, your guide introduces the neighborhoods you'll explore using original historical maps, giving you a clear picture of the city before it became the city. By the time we set off, you'll already understand something most visitors never do: why the American Revolution didn't JUST happen in Boston, but why it could ONLY have happened here.
Who were the Pilgrims? Who were the Puritans? What were they running from, and what were they running toward? At Boston's oldest burying ground, we uncover the people who first settled Massachusetts Bay and the convictions they carried with them.
The most famous names of the Revolution are buried here: Paul Revere, John Hancock, and Samuel Adams. But who were they, really, before history made them legends? Standing at their tombs, we introduce the Sons of Liberty: the organizers, the agitators, and the firebrands who turned popular frustration into coordinated resistance.
Some of the most beautiful architecture in the city is the background of a discussion about the historic obstacles to and inherent challenges of democracy
In front of a statue of Boston's most famous son, we explore the story of America's first public school — and what it tells us about a society that believed education and self-governance went hand in hand. Benjamin Franklin never led an army or signed a declaration on a battlefield, but the ideas he embodied helped make revolution thinkable.
Iconic brick pathway connecting 16 historic landmarks. Whereas most tours just blindly follow this path geographically from one direction to the other, we weave around the city visiting the sights in chronological order.
At the Old South Meeting House — one of colonial Boston's most important gathering places — we pause at the nearby Irish Famine Memorial to explore the fears and grievances that unified ordinary colonists. What does it actually feel like to live under the thumb of an empire, and what would drive ordinary people to risk everything to resist it?
One of the oldest commercial buildings in America, a quiet landmark with a surprisingly rich literary legacy.
The oldest surviving public building in America and the nerve center of colonial Massachusetts politics. This is where the debate between British authority and American rights played out in real time — in speeches, in arguments, and eventually in the street directly outside its doors.
March 5, 1770. Five colonists killed by British soldiers on this exact spot. Was it a massacre or a riot? Were the soldiers provoked? What did it mean — and who decided what it meant?
"The Cradle of Liberty." The place where ordinary Bostonians debated, argued, and eventually demanded their rights loud enough for a king to hear. We pause here for a break — and on days when the Great Hall is open, guests are welcome to step inside one of the most significant public spaces in American history.
A 15-minute pause in the heart of the marketplace. Rest your feet, grab a coffee or a snack, and use the facilities.
In America's oldest residential neighborhood, we explore the oldest remaining structure in downtown Boston, which is home to the man who is both more and less than his legend.
Iconic photo opportunity
One if by land, two if by sea. The signal from the steeple of Old North Church set Paul Revere's ride in motion — and that ride set the war in motion. With the church as our backdrop, we tell the full story of the night of April 18, 1775, and why what happened in the next 24 hours made independence inevitable.
Boston's second-oldest burying ground, visible from the street as we make our way toward a terrace with beautiful waterfront views.
We do a complete recreation of the Battle of Bunker Hill - the battle that made a local rebellion a colonial war for independence.
The oldest commissioned naval vessel in the world. "Old Ironsides" was undefeated in battle. It was not part of the American Revolution, and we only see it from the other side of Boston Harbor, but we do provide an overview of its history and provide tips on how best to experience it.
We finish in the heart of "Little Italy" the historic North End only blocks from Boston's Best pizza, clam chowder, cannoli, seafood, and Italian. There are public restrooms, bicycles, public transportation and parking in close proximity, and we will be a less than ten-minute walk from our original meeting point.

Such a great way to explore the city while learning about our history!! Our guide was very engaging, knowledgeable, and passionate about everything he spoke out! Would recommend!
A very thorough walking tour through Boston’s history and the American Revolution in the ordered time as the events happened. Mike is an excellent guide and storyteller, and the tour was made more interesting by his knowledge and personality. This is truly a great tour.
Rob is an amazing your guide with wealth of information- learned so much. This is one of the best tours!!
Our guide one of best ever w viator- very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about subject matter and made it fun w group participation
The tour was engaging throught as we travelled in and around the Ciry of Boston. A highly knowledgeable snd entertaining guide!
Our guide was very thorough and explained how Boston was the birthplace of the American revolution. Made it interesting without being boring. He was passionate and a good orator.
Chris was our guide and he has a wealth of historical information to share. Tour route was well laid out and small group made it easier to interact and hear. My suggestion would be to share the critical points as it became difficult to digest so much information. This could shorten the tour a bit as most folks have other agenda items to get to during their day.
This is the one! Wonderful learning experience with Mike! Enjoy walking and hearing the stories of the city and the Revolution. Mike is so knowledgeable and brings the Revolution into clear focus with his expertise and stories. Highly recommend!
Rob did a wonderful job. He is a great tour guide. The time went fast as he took us on the journey through Boston.
Tyler is a great tour guide with unique booming oratory skills. He kept the group engaged with interaction not found with most history tours. It was interesting to hear the Revolutionary story and learn new details and point ov view. I would 100% recommend this tour to anyone interested in the history of Boston and our Revolutionary beginnings!
Guide provided a lot of information on dates and multiple events going on simultaneousl during same period of time at each stop on tour. Difficult to digest. Guide was very knowledgable, but it would have been much more instructive if guide gave a simple chronological narrative at each stop and allowed participantes to ask questions.
If you are a history buff this tour is a must. Great tour guide who was very knowledgeable. I highly recommend this tour.
It is extremely educational and interesting Mike the guide is excellent He not only gave such a precise guide tour but even got all of us to participate in the guide Thank you Mike
Chris was our guide, and he was wonderful! We messed up our tour dates on accident and showed up a week early. He was super gracious about it and let us come along with the tour for that morning. He did an excellent job, we learned a lot and had a great time. We didn't have much free time on our quick trip to Boston, and this was the perfect way to squeeze a lot into a small amount of time. Now we have food for thought and hope to make a future trip where we'll have more time to dig deeper and see more. My husband had never done one of these and he thoroughly enjoyed it and even said he'd like to do one from now on any time we go somewhere that offers it. Also, its not at all cheesy (some of the tours we saw were a little... different). We highly recommend!
It was a great tour. Prices were good and length was just right. Also THANKS to our great tour guide Chris.
Rob the tour guide was awesome and very animated! Rob is well educated (PhD from Brown) and interactive with the group. Tour lasted about 4 hours and would do it again with Rob in a heartbeat! Spend the extra money for the smaller group and better tour guides.
Amazing tour. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and made it fun and interesting. We covered a lot of territory, seeing the main historical sites in a reasonable amount of time. Highly, highly recommend.
He makes it come alive and make sense. Cool information we wouldn’t have known on our own. Great teaching personality and knowledge.
We enjoyed this informational tour so much. The weather was an added bonus allowing us more time to enjoy all Boston has to offer.
We highly enjoyed our first visit to Boston rob was very good at this very entertaining event with our group.
Our tour was fantastic. We were captivated because The guides was so well versed in Boston’s history. We stopped frequently and learned the details…the real poop on colonial times. The tour was interactive (don’t want to tell you how) and the small size was a plus. Highly recommend this tour. It was reasonably prices and our guide was very attentive to any special needs (like staying in the sun because some of us were freezing).
Rob was extremely knowledgeable about Boston history…and not simply the Revolutionary War era! He was accommodating (we were late due to one of us needing a scooter for her broken foot), friendly and funny. Rob genuinely made us feel as though we were in the moment!!
A fantastic walking, history tour of Boston. Tyler, our guide was incredibly personable, knowledgeable and passionate about American history. This walking tour is so much more than a tourist trip around the sights, if you want to learn about the history of Boston and the events leading up to the American Revolution this is the tour for you.
Absolutely fabulous tour! Rob took us through the city to various points along the Freedom Trail and made history come alive. I highly recommend this tour for anyone that wants to understand the history of this city and the famous people involved. Absolutely made the time fly. So very good!
This is not just a tour or historic sites. You are walking through a story of the revolution, in chronological order. He goes off and on the trail, walking you through a timeline of events. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the subject matter. If you want a real understanding of the American Revolution, this is your tour! If you want theatrics to entertain small children, I would not choose this tour. I learned SO MUCH. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone that values having a history professor teach you vs a guy doing silly voices in costume. It was phenomenal.
This is an in-depth historical learning tour presented in a very engaging way, and a must for history buffs who need a good understanding of the start of the revolutionary war and the circumstances that lead to it. I cannot praise Chris (our guide) enough for his knowledge and presentation skills. Highly recommended.
YOU MUST DO THIS TOUR if you’re coming to Boston! If you want to really be immersed in the story of the Revolution from its very beginning, this is the tour for you. Mike was a fantastic guide, so knowledgeable! It’s clear that he not only knows what he’s talk about, he loves Boston and her amazing history. Absolutely 5 stars!
Loved our tour guide he did excellent! Learned so much!!
Absolutely wonderful. Very fun. Lots of history. Gives a great perspective of the time and emotions. Would definitely do it again
Mike is an excellent tour guide. We were there on a cold, windy day and he powered through. His commentary is always interesting -- not dry or educational. He speaks loudly so everyone can hear. He works with props! Makes history interesting. He moves at a reasonable pace and we saw all the history hot spots.
Love, love , love this tour. Excellent tour guide with great knowledge of the city and freedom trail
I’ve been on tours all over the world. Mikes tour was the best I have been on. He is as good as it gets, knows his stuff, and can tell he is a small business owner who is hustling and loves what he does. The tour is designed in a way that you understand and have context for each site before you get there. Mike essentially tells the history and origins of the revolutionary war in a funny and engaging way.
This experience was AMAZING! I highly recommend booking with Rob, he was very knowledgeable and very entertaining tour guide. He takes you from the beginning, walks you through Boston in chronological order of the history. This exceeding my expectations and I would come back when visiting Boston again.
Thank you Rob for an amazing tour. Enjoyed hearing the history and how events added up to the epic start of freedom. Very organized and follow-through. Communication amazing, specifying meeting place and expectations of the tour
It’s a lot of walking, but it’s worth it. The tour guide is very knowledgeable. You’ll get a more rich experience of history with this particular tour guide. You’ll find this to be a more factual than theatrical experience.
This was our favorite Boston tour. Our guide Rob was fantastic, we could tell that he is passionate about the history of Boston and the Revolutionary Era. We will definitely book another tour with him on our next trip.
Great tour- Chris kept all entertained and interested. From 12 yo to senior citizens. Great tour- highly recommend!
The freedom Trail walking experience was great! Awesome guide, very knowledgeable! Super informative!
Tyler was an exceptional guide. We loved every minute. Super informative. Lots of history both on and off the Freedom Trail. Nice break a bit more than half way through.
This tour does not slavishly follow the Freedom Trail but rather follows the chronological lead up to the start of the revolution and the Battle of Bunker Hill. This Australian’s paucity of knowledge about these historical events was greatly enhanced by Chris, our extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic and entering guide. Throughly recommend this tour.
The tour was very fun, interesting and we learned so much from our knowledgeable guide Tyler. It was amazing and would highly recommend this tour.
Chris was an excellent, well informed, well educated, animated guide. Full of stories, he introduced the city’s history through stories of the sons of liberty and significant architecture. Very memorable. Highly recommend!
Tyler gave us a wonderful and very knowledgeable tour. It was nice to have the tour given in chronological order from the founding of Boston to the Revolutionary War.
The guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. He definitely fulfilled all of our expectations for what we would see and learn.
Our tour guide, Rob, was fantastic! He was knowledgeable and engaging and involved us in his storytelling in a way that helped the information "stick." (He also was encouraging and caring and reached out to us to make sure we could find the tour group!) As we saw larger tours around us, it was easy to see that our small group size was a definite advantage. It was helpful to visit the iconic sites in historical order. Really pleased with this choice!
Our guide was exceptional. Our tour was informative & fun. He had us interacting as the people we were learning about .
The tour lasted about 3.5 hours, and there was a lot of walking! We had 17 people on the tour and all of them found it interesting. If you're a history buff, you should do this! Our tour guide, Rob, was excellent and you could tell he really enjoyed this.
Our guide, Chris, provided an entertaining chronological tour through the beginning of the Revolution. Rather than a slavish following of the Freedom Trail the tour tells the story in an easy to follow chronological way. Chris was extremely knowledgeable and very entertaining. Throughly recommend this tour.
Very informative and interesting told by Taylor. He knows everything and is willing to share in an interesting way.
