The walking tour was excellent providing very good historical prospective and detail along with some additional cultural information that completed the picture.

Reviews
Great information, easy to follow at your own pace. Would recommend to anyone that likes private tours.
Way too much about the Kennedy family on the Freedom Trail!! It’s OK. Not the best audio guide we have used after years of travel.
Had a great experience with the Self-Guided Classic Freedom Trail GPS Walking Audio Tour! The app was very easy to navigate, making it simple to follow the route without getting lost. The tour was packed with interesting historical facts and stories that really brought Boston's history to life. What I loved most was the flexibility. Being able to move at my own pace made the experience much more enjoyable. I could stop whenever I wanted, take extra time exploring sites that interested me, grab a bite to eat, and then continue the tour when I was ready. If you're looking for a convenient, informative, and flexible way to experience the Freedom Trail, this tour is an excellent choice. Highly recommend!
Loved every step of the freedom trail thanks to this audio guide. Great historical facts and stories.
Cindy was amazing!!!! She had so many facts and was funny too.
Very enjoyable and informative. We really got to know that part of Boston and revisited sections of it the following day. I would recommend bringing a battery pack to charge you phone etc as our ran out towards the end. Thankfully it did not spoil the experience.
Really good, enough information and self paced. Warning I ran out of battery on my admittedly old iPhone so had to stop and recharge.... take a battery pack....
We had a good experience with another Viator self-guided tour so decided to try this one. This also did not disappoint. The narrator is triggered by your location (gps?) and the narrator offers stories along the way. The trail is so long we only got a quarter of the way through. Not sure if we could have advanced the tape to start on other parts of the trail. I guess we could have since its triggered by our location.
A great walking tour that was relatively easy to do. It was so informative! We would highly recommend!
It was hard to jump in and out of the tour when we would stop and explore. I liked that you could read and not always listen. We also didn’t start at the beginning because we were short on time. One part was confusing when the freedom trail now goes under a building! It should have said turn right to get back on the trail. Maybe it needs some updating.
The tour was great. We were never lost and the tour had a bit of bumper facts as you walked to the next site.
I really enjoyed this tour. You are able to move at your pace, stop when you want to and spend as much time as you want to. Some stops allow you to go inside and you can just pause and do so and then continue. Super informative, loved the experience!
Upon finding the beginning of the Freedom Trail and beginning the tour, after the first stop the App crashed and was unusable after that. Total waste of time and money.
We really didn’t know where to start the tour but once we started it was good
This app was perfect for us. we walked the entirety of the Freedom Trail with it and it allowed for seamless stops, entertaining history and succinct presentations for first time Boston visitors. Thank you!
I loved the flexibility of this self-paced tour. It was also nice how the GPS feature of the tour app was able to track your location and coordinate the audio.
Tour was good but the music was annoying.
GPS app tour was very informative and flexible. Only issue I had was my cellphone ran out of battery power shortly before the end!
The tour starts at the visitor center in Boston Common and ends af Ol Iron Sides. Narrator is clear and precise. It tells you exactly where to go and when to move on from a point of interest. You can go at your pace by simply pausing between sites. Very informative tour. Also, unlike a formal tour with a guide, we were able to soend extra time at places we were interested in along the route such as Warren Tavern, Modern Pastry, and Little Italy. Great experience. Highly recommend this method of exploring the Freedom Trail. We took 3 hours.
I was in Boston for a day and wanted to experience the Freedom Trail on my own. I rolled the dice and chose this self-guided audio tour based on reviews. Overall, the information provided in the guide was pretty good, but I was expecting the app to work with the GPS in my phone to stop and start when I was at or near one of the stops along the Freedom Trail. Spoiler Alert-it does not. Like at all. A few times I had to pause the app while I walked, but when I tried to restart the app crashed. Multiple times. It was aggravating needing to restart the app, then try to navigate back to where I stopped. Directions in Little Italy were confusing and I got lost. By now, my ear buds were getting low so I took a break, bought a coffee and recharged my ear buds while consulting the map I purchased at the Boston Commons visitor center. I figured out how to get back on track and resume the tour. Overall, I guess I can't complain too much for an app that cost less than $10 so it is what it is.
We thought this was a great tour and learned a great deal about Boston. We liked that we could pause and spend extra time at certain spots, which you can't do on tours led by live people. We were greatly disappointed when halfway through the tour it ended and we were told we would have to purchase the other half of the tour, which we couldn't find on Tripadvisor, so we bought it directly through the vendor. We were again disappointed when the second half of the tour did not include the entire second half of the tour, only part of the North End. Although the original description says the tour ends at the USS Constituion and goes to Bunker Hill, it does not. We felt that if the tour had included everything it advertises it says it includes, we would have rated it 5 stars but cannot because of the deception in the description. This tour does not take you to the USS Constitution and does not take you to Charlestown or Bunker Hill, it actually stops just after Faneuil Hall.
You cannot start the tour at a different location on the Freedom Trail. We stayed near the USS Constitution and then walked to North end then to Fanueill hall.
I’m a New Englander who has been to BOS more times than I can count. I learned a lot about Boston with this tour. Bring a good pair of sneakers and a bottle of water and enjoy.
Your was really engaging. Lived the dig deeper feature. The app was really glitchy however and frustrating to use.
We had a great experience with Walkn Tours! It was easy to operate, navigate, and understand! We loved it so much for the Freedom Trail that we downloaded another tour from Walkn Tour for a day trip to Salem! Worth the time and money!
This was a good and affordable option for the Freedom trail especially since my daughter didn’t want to do a guided tour. However, we couldn’t get it to show the map and do the hands free. It does not go into the depth a tour guide would have and gives just a quick paragraph on most of the sites. It was Ok and provides more info than just walking the trail without it. We did space it out over a couple days. I would likely pay for a guide next time. We heard some among the way and they were far more engaging.
The app did a great job of leading us through the tour. It kept up with us. We were able to spend more time at certain places that interested us more
We really enjoyed the narration. It was both informative with a little humor mixed in. I highly recommend!
Great experience. The vocal tour guide was very informative at each stop. The instructions were very clear. I loved the fact that I could go at my own pace as well. Would definitely recommend this tour.
Very good content, nice being able to go at your own pace and take extra time at stops along the way. Super easy use, install app, loada tour and go. And easy to stop tour for an extended period (like lunch!) and restart just where you left off. Its a long walk - so make sure you have your good walking shoes on. Mostly flat terrain with a few hills towards the end.
Well I don’t normally do reviews but feel this one is totally worth it We had chosen a tour with a guide but then the wife said let’s try a audio tour so we can do at our own pace so we cancelled the original tour and went with this audio tour Boy was I surprised my the quality and ease of the use of this app It let us pause and continue as we required and was very informative with the information given Also gave information as you went from site to site and included directions with which you couldn’t get lost and also included a easy map to see the progress of your tour I would not hesitate to use this service on another tour Thanks
This was a wonderful way to experience the tour at our own pace! We were able to go in and out of stores throughout the route and we didn’t feel rushed at all!
The flexibility of this self-guided walking tour was really helpful when we tackled the Freedom Trail on the one vacation day it rained ALL DAY. When we got miserably wet, it was great to be able to pause the tour and step into an indoor venue to dry off a bit. It was also nice to be able to "skim visit" sites which did not hold much interest for us. The ease of hearing the well-informed narration through our ear buds was so much better than trying to position in a tour group in a place where the tour guide would be understood.
After we finally got our audio going, it quit after the 3rd landmark. We were unable to retrieve our tour on our Iphone and had to continue without it.
GPS doesn't work and the directions are vague and hard to follow. Good history but impossible as an experience if not with someone familiar with the area
It’s a fun tour lots of history. The average person should have no problems walking this tour.
Definitely start with a full charge on your phone and ear buds. We made it to the end of the walk but just barely. We learned a lot! We stopped the narration here and there to visit longer and were able to pick it up again.
This tour involves so much walking so wear comfortable shoes and bring water. At some points where you are supposed to go is a bit confusing but overall you see most of it by following the audio guides directions. You do use your own phone as your audio guide so make sure that you have a charged phone.
Good way to see the main sites and learn of the history. Final section was a distance from downtown Boston but can get ferry back. Better to do it early (before 9am) when no crowds.
We could not ever access the material. Very disappointing
The WalknTours itself was excellent! The narration, sound effects and music were perfect and directions so clear it was like having someone in person leading the tour. I also listened to it again later to fill in more details. My only problem was getting started. I had my ticket through Viator, but it would have been helpful if the instructions said to completely download the experience before going to starting spot. Thankfully, the Boston visitor center was able to get me started.
It was so nice to go at our own pace and stop if we needed something to drink or wanted to look around. We are able to go back and use the tour again to visit what we missed. Would definitely use again.
I never got an email with a code or anything so we paid for the tour and never got to use it. Very frustrating.
Easy enjoyable walk, lovely weather, informative info on the audio, getting to the start was a bit confusing. Wonderful idea that the tour inteoduced us to a lot of downtown Boston. Few interruptions on the walk when a location was closed or construction eliminated the trail leading to confusion.
The Self Guided Freedom Trail walking tour was one of the highlights of my trip to Boston! It was incredibly cheap for the quality of storytelling and interesting information provided and took just about as much time as I would've hoped. I found myself totally present and connected with the city of Boston. I even stopped at Salumeria Italiana, an old Italian deli in the north end, for a delicious sandwich followed by a shot of espresso from across the street. If you want to feel connected with the city and enhance your time there, I would highly recommend this walking tour as it deepened my knowledge and interest in this great city!
Great experience! Very informative and tons of history.
Walking tour took at least 3 hours. Lots of interesting tidbits of information. It was easy to follow the red brick line.
It was a friendly easy to use app - though it did drain the phone battery. It would have been good to be able to speed it up at times.
IT was easy to use and practical. Very convenient way to learn about the city and history at your ow pace.
