We had the best time on this spy adventure! The rest of the squad and I were delighted to find out that the great team at Escapely had done a bang-up job; the challenges were difficult yet not frustrating; every bit required ingenuity and teamwork--it felt like different parts of the quest required different skills and different levels of ingenuity. Highly, HIGHLY recommended.

Escape rooms (finding clues to solve a mystery) are fun because they make you think but also because they're usually fully of visual/audible/sensory experiences. So when we decided to try an Escapely outdoor game we weren't sure what to expect. We are happy to report we were delighted. The game over-delivered on its promise to be "more than just an escape room in a box". The combination of mobile web-based interactions and some very impressive props gave us hours of enjoyment as we navigated parts of our home city (Boston) that we've never spent time at before. We look forward to doing more of these, both in Boston and other cities near us. And, in fact, it's entirely likely when we visit other cities for vacation we'll check to see if Escapely has a presence there.
We had the most wonderful time engaging in this activity while we were on tour of Boston! Our group consisted of two adults and three 17 year-olds who love traditional escape rooms. The box arrived well in advance of our vacation as communicate communicated by the company. We chose to wait to open it in the airport while waiting to board our plane to learn the background and start our advenure! We immediately began laughing and enjoying ourselves. Once we figured out the initial information we were ready to tour Boston. We had already booked a hop on hop off, trolley that toured the north end of Boston! It pairs so perfectly with this game and saves you tons of footsteps, but if you don’t mind a long walk, you can do it without the trolley too! The trolley tickets can be for one or two days so you can spread the enjoyment out if you’d like. You can get off at any stop you like and get picked up by the next trolley five minutes or an hour later… whatever you need. The clues were well constructed and fascinating to decode. There are backup hints if you get stuck, but push yourself to solve them independently! If you are looking for a fun way to see Boston and stay engaged with all of the history around you, get this game NOW!!!! Endless fun and entertainment!
Did this as a family with 2 teens, and everyone had fun! Highly recommend to families with hard impress teens.
To celebrate my adult child’s birthday, we worked as spies to solve the North End Escapely game. We had fun working together and learned some fun facts about our history. I highly recommend this game if you want to do something active, clever with little or no technology!
Had a blast! My girlfriend and I took about 2 hours to finish this, it was always relatively challenging but never to the point of frustration. Very fun!
I did this with my 12 and 14 year old. It was a great family activity! The clues are challenging but the hints were really helpful. I loved how the items in the box really helped you interact with the real life things around you. It even introduced me to great sculptures I had never noticed before. We were also able to take breaks and enjoy gelato, the swings and grab a quick dinner At Fanuiel hall. It’s hard to find family activities with teens and this was a winner for us. The cards/activities in the box are so well done. Can’t wait to grab the other box and looking forward to more adventures being released!
We took our grandson on this tour for his 10th birthday and it was so much fun! The North End was great and the weather was beautiful. The special box of clues was terrific and my grandson really enjoyed the tie-in with the phone. We appreciated the history sprinkled in and loved our North End lunch break! Planning to do the Beacon Hill version soon!
We had an amazing time with the Boston - North End. A couple of serious wins for this company. 1. We originally bought a different city but upon arriving, decided to change our vacation plans to include Boston. The customer service was incredible as they made the switch happen for us which was a huge help. They really went out of their way to accommodate. 2. We chose the Challenging game mode due to our experience with escape rooms we’ve done in the past and even a few we’ve built as well. We had an amazing time. The storyline incorporated with the real life puzzles were very well put together. I was concerned that the puzzles would be too easy and we’d blow right through it. Not so. The difficulty level was perfect for “challenge mode” and each location took some brain power to figure out the puzzles. In the game, you are given several potential helps for each puzzle, with varying levels to those. Kuddos to this team for knocking this one out of the park, both in gameplay and customer service. This is a great way to have fun while seeing parts of the city. We won’t forget our first time in Boston. The entire game took about 2.5 hours with a couple of stops along the way to take a short break. We will play again.
It was great! Very well done puzzles for adults and even my kids loved it. Great way to see the city and get the family active outside. We will do more Escapely adventures for sure!
For my daughter’s 14th bday, we did this Boston adventure with her younger brother and one of her friends. Our little group enjoyed solving the clues together- everyone contributed in their own way and it was so much fun piecing the clever clues together. If we got stuck, we were able to get as much help as we needed from the clues- we really did need help once, and it pretty much spelled it out for us so we could keep our momentum going. For my part, I made sure the kids knew we could always come back for a “round 2” - but they wanted to finish, and we had our little victory celebration in Boston. Walking around on our mission together, looking carefully at places I’d only partially seen before, was a great way to explore the North End, and a great way to spend a day! We hope to do more of these adventures in the future!
Overall, we had a great time with the game. I used it as a low-cost team building outing for a group of 25 people, 7 of whom had traveled to Boston from overseas. We broke into 5 teams of 5, each team with our own box, and "raced" in a friendly competition. At the end of the day, my management heaped praise on my choice of Escapely because it kept everyone engaged, built camaraderie, and allowed our international guests to spend time in a great part of Boston.
Fun, more challenging than expected (In a good way) and got us to explore some key tourist spots in Boston! I really enjoyed it!
This is a great alternative to the Escape Room activities. We loved being outdoors and following clues in the city. We discovered new areas of the North End which ordinarily we would missed. We all had fun following and deciphering the clues. It was a challenge and with 3 of us we were “on the case” for over 3 hours. Really appreciated the ability to go at our own pace. Can’t wait to do the next one.
We LOVED the Escapely game!! The difficulty level was great. Here are some things we loved: - the difficulty levels of each envelope / section of the game varied, and it was nice to have some easier ones to give us a boost in morale - we really liked that almost all of the codes we had to figure out were words that made sense, rather than random number combinations (as some escape rooms are) - it was very helpful to know when we might need to google something (telling us we needed out phone), and it was enjoyable to have some clues where we had to google info - my partner found the game via google search because they know I love escape rooms / games like Sherlock Holmes consulting detective Favorite part of the game was how the clues fit in with the real world area and allowed us to see our home in a new way. We already bought the one for Providence!
Incredible experience! Soooo fun amazing way to see the city It was challenging but not too challenging. We loved all the stops and the variety in levels of different clues
This was a great experience. It was a bit challenging, but thankfully there were hints. We used the hints to make sure we were on the right track. However, there were a couple of times we were clueless and needed those hints to move us along.
Fun family adventure that takes you around to the main points. Kids ages 10-15 were entertained and engaged. Good roi for the family
My partner and I got the chance to explore a section of the city we haven't often been to. The clues were immersive and inventive, with us getting stuck on a few but very engaged by the end. We even ran into another group working through it and on the same clue as us! It was a neat experience and would definitely play another one sometime.
We had so much fun doing the Boston escape the city game. It was a good mix of challenges - some were more challenging than others but with the hints we were able to figure it out when we got stuck. It’s such a cool concept that I might look at getting some for the cities I’m traveling too! My sister really hit a home run on that Christmas gift to me!
We had such a fun time exploring Boston with the Escapely box. We saw things that we wouldn’t have seen otherwise and really enjoyed the experience. We will definitely check out more when we head to other cities.
Even though our group included highly educated professionals, we couldn't even get the 1st clue. Very frustrating. We gave up and just explored on our own.
Six of us did this together as a birthday present for one friend. It was a blast — a great way to explore the north end, with clues that varied in challenge level. The game includes optional hints (which you’ll likely want to use) and mixes both real-world objects and fun items in the kit. It took us 2 full hours to complete and we all agreed it was a good use of time!
I have played other mystery boxes and the real-world clues made it a lot more fun, and encouraged us to explore the monuments better (that we usually just walk past). Best part of the game was the integration of well designed physical clues in the box with clues in the environment. One of the clues used writing on the ground, which happened to be covered in snow! It was an added challenge to literally uncover those clues. We successfully played with 8 people by pairing up.
We had a blast with the North End spy adventure. We do many escape-room-in-a-box games, and this compared favorably. The difficulty varied a bit throughout the puzzles, with a few being pretty easy for us, but we are more experienced than the average person. The hardest puzzles were at the ideal difficulty. Highly recommend!
What an awesome experience! Our family, 2 adults and 3 teenagers, loved the tour of the city while learning both the history and playing a game. You definitely need a fully charged working phone, but this is not a "phone game", it lends to the details within.
It’s was a lot of fun, but we had trouble with one of the locations. When it sent us to the Armenian Heritage Park and we opened the QR code for it, the real life location, postcard, and clues were in Philadelphia rather than Boston. We ran into 2 other groups who had the same issue. We were able to use the hints next letter to get back on track, but it wasn’t just a mistake with our box/code.
Definitely was a great experience. Took a little bit to get used to the clues but walking and exploring was such a good time and made me look at the city that I have been too so many times in a different way. Would definitely love to do this in another city.
A really unforgettable experience. Probably the best way to explore the North End of Boston is to play this game. And in the meantime we had lunch in an Italian restaurant, had a Tiramisu in a cake shop, and we had a beeutiful day while walking in some hidden corners of the area too.
My group had a blast! We found it was a good mix of easy and challenging clues. It also had us stop at places we normally just walk by so we actually learned new things which was great! Loved it and definitely will look to do again!
This outdoor escape room was great! I wasn't sure what to expect, but my friends and I had a blast solving puzzles and exploring the North End. The puzzles were really fun, and I got to learn about parts of the city I hadn't looked at closely before.
This was my first time trying out Escapely and I really enjoyed it! I had a total of 3 people in my party and I was so impressed with the game. I really liked how there is a clear starting place and a discount for the location so we could grab some food/drinks before the scavenger hunt. I've lived in the Boston area for over 10 years and this game took me to places I never knew existed! I really liked how the puzzles involved things that were in the real world and the difficulty of the puzzles were just right. I wish there was another Escapely for the Boston area, because I would definitely want to do another one!
Conceptually a great idea, but implementation and customer support was extremely lacking. Not to mention most people are not wanting to carry around a box all day long. Fought through log-in issues for an hour and customer support was unable to resolve. By the time it was resolved, had ruined the entire day. There are similar scavenger hunts that you can do through the web without having to carry a box around town.
We had a lovely time — honestly a great experience and a very unique game. Four of us played (2 couples). We started later in the evening (ignoring the suggestion of going during the day) — so visibility was limited, but we knew that going in. We played for ~2 hours before hunger reared its head and we stopped for dinner. We are planning to finish the game at another time. Very satisfying puzzles. 10/10.
Great and unique way to see the sights around the North End - the puzzles were all clever and fun, and the ending felt satisfying.
We really struggled with the first few puzzles, but after we started getting in the groove of it, the puzzle was super fun. The hints were awesome, and we definitely had to use those. It was nice that most of the places that we had to go also had a place to sit so my group was able to sit and read the next prompt. However the starting point did not have any benches and we were awkwardly standing on the sidewalk with the box open trying to figure out the username. I will say that we fought over the phone a little bit because we were all trying to read the same thing and put in our ideas for passwords. Overall it was fun, but it took a little longer than we initially thought.
Really cool and interesting escape room puzzle concept. I really enjoyed being able to walk around and enjoy the outside urban environment while still being able to participate in the puzzle. Since it is all self-paced, you can stop for a drink or to eat some food in between clues.
Such a fun day exploring the city with family. I’ve lived in Boston for almost 25 years and this game took me around a new neighborhood and opened my eyes to places I didn’t know. The challenges were hard but do-able. A great game for locals and tourists alike!
It was awesome! Felt like something out of National Treasure or something, we did the one for the North End. I hope they make some more for Boston!
We did this in a group of 4 last weekend when visiting my sister in Boston. It was so much more fun than we had anticipated and the design was very well done. The game incorporated local landmarks that were an easy walk between each other which was a great way to see a part of Boston. The puzzles were challenging but definitely doable, admittedly we did use a couple of the hints when we got stuck but were able to get through most of it without assistance. The interface was easy to use and the box was small enough to tote around as we walked. It was a great way to spend a couple hours, and I’d definitely do this again for some of the other cities they have available.
We loved our Escapely adventure in Boston. We’ve lived here for many years and are always looking for fun stuff to do in/around our city to learn even more about its history and hidden gems. My 19 year old son is home this week from College for his Spring Break and Escape The City Boston was the perfect way for him and I to reconnect—puzzle solving, real-world scavenger hunt, and a delicious (if overpriced!) Italian lunch in the middle of our adventure. Difficulty level was just right—and a good mix of what we found easier but also trickier puzzles. Hints were invaluable more as ‘guardrails’ to make sure we were on the right path (we tend to overthink!). I’m sure we set no speed records in solving all the puzzles, but, hey. Favorite part of the game—connection to our local history, the humor, the connection to Escapely's website via QR codes and the props/ephemera in the very portable box are fantastic. A slip or two of paper in the box might’ve been helpful for notes. I’m pretty sure I’ll always remember it! Between the well-thought out mysteries/story lines and the first-rate graphic design Escapely is creating some really fun products. My only regret is not taking my wife and my younger son along....thanks Escapely!
