We had an amazing time with Karen on our tour. We learned a lot about the history of Salem and how much it has changed since the beginning of time. On this walking tour we were able to ask questions and eat our croissant as we liked, however I saved mine for the end of the tour. The hubby and I had a private tour for 2 as the second party who was on the tour was unable to make it which made it so much fun because it was small and intimate. At the end of the tour we were able to do a spice tasting and I couldn’t be more happier! Definitely worth checking out and adding on your to do while at Salem!
I have to say the guide was magnificent she was so energetic and adorable about her passion and the area. I am only rating so low as this was definitely NOT a food tour. She gave excellent recommendations but what I think would make this better is if we were able to skip the lines and get a sample of anything that she was recommending because no one has the time to stand in those lines if we’re on the “food” tour for 2 hours. Love love love the tour guide but I think this tour could be so so so much better. Give us a sample of the items you love, work with the businesses and cut the line for us, make it actually worth it to wake up at 7am to meet at 8:45am. There was no food in this “food” tour.
Karen, the tour guide, was the most adorable person I’ve ever meet. Her knowledge, passion and enthusiasm was magnetic.
This is a must when visiting Salem! Our guide was unbelievable! So knowledgeable and energetic! The pastry was to die for and her enthusiasm was contagious! If visiting Salem this is a must! 20 out 10!
Well worth the time and money. Learned a lot about the history of Salem. Our tour guide was incredible and very knowledgeable. The spices at the end were amazing (we bought 3).
Anything and everything food related that you would want to know! The morning tour is a must to get a lay of the land! First thing we did in Salem and it was well worth it. Karen is a fantastic and a wealth of information!
Karen was a fantastic tour guide. Wonderfully descriptive of Salem beyond witches (there were no witches in Salem)! Maritime trade history, how the city developed, and oh the spices! Excellent recommendations for where to try unique flavors. Highly recommend especially for anyone who wants to learn about Salem besides Halloween.
That there is no actual food on the tour. We understood this to be a walking food tour. A pastry was provided at the beginning of the tour but after that no further food was provided. We ended the tour tasting dipping our fingers in spices on a paper plate and licking them off our fingers.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of Salem. It was fast paced but still took about two hours. It was a great experience and we are glad we did it.
Our guide was very knowledgeable about history and local places to eat. She made some really good recommendations.
Loved our Morning Walk with Karen! Her passion & knowledge make her an excellent guide! A must do while in Salem, especially if you’re a foodie!
Tour guide was an absolute gem!! I learned so much about the history in Salem! Thanks for such a great experience.
What an amazing history and great starting place to orient yourself to set the tone for your visit. Karen was beyond informative and took the time to give clear descriptive of the history and the amazing food options. Thank you so much for the wonderful foundation of our visit!
Karen, our tour guide, was amazing. She was full of so much information about the food of Salem but also the on the history of Salem. Karen was fun and knew her stuff. I highly recommend this tour. The tastings were out of this world.
We had a wonderful tour ! The weather was beautiful and the guide had wonderful photos of Salem from long a good, we learning many things about the spice trade and other historical information from the shipping that took place in Salem. The breakfast treat was very tasty.
Karen is absolutely amazing! We had such an interesting walking tour with her learning about Salem. She provided the best pastries we had all trip and gave us fantastic food recommendations for the rest of our trip. We really appreciated her perspective and information on Salem. Highly recommend taking her tour! You will have a great time!
Absolutely wonderful. Very informational and humorous also. Can’t recommend it enough! Karen is the best!
If Marry Poppins and Mr. Roger had a daughter, that would be Karen. Truly one of the best souls I have had the pleasure of meeting. Everyone comes to Salem to learn about the witches (there were no witches in Salem, Karen will educate you) but there is so much more to this city. Karen is passionate about teaching others and sharing her love for the city… she even went as far as to connect it with its sister city! She will teach you so many things while leading you around and while the city greats her… literally. Everyone knew Karen and even after the tour, random people sang her praises. I recommend doing this tour the first morning of your trip… Karen will give you invaluable recommendations and insights. And she gave us some damn good pastries. You won’t be disappointed
Karen was an excellent guide for the Morning Walk. Wonderful history of the city and its place in history through the centuries. Clearly knows her history and the people and what’s happening in the town currently. We have several must-visit places for food before we leave. Definitely recommend.
There are not enough words to describe how AMAZING this tour was!! I recommend doing this tour on your first morning in Salem. The tour guide, Karen, was so knowledgeable and fun. She goes over all the great food locations as well as history and great insider tips for seeing Salem. You will find yourself wanting to try so many of the recommendations afterward that the more time you have in town afterwards the better. The included pastry was one of the best I have ever had. The tour was hands down one of the best things we did on our weekend trip.
Do this tour first! Karen was our guide and as advertised was terrific in pointing out local spots and points of interest to go back to later. Not only was Karen very knowledgeable, but she also shared her heart and passion for her city as well. She was genuinely delightful and in parting felt like we were saying goodbye to a dear friend.
Wow! Karen was an absolutely amazing tour guide. My group of 5 learned so much. From the history of Salem, the restaurant recommendations, and places to visit suggestions, Karen was fantastic!!!
This was a really great tour, and I agree with the other reviewers who said to try to do it as soon as you arrive in Salem because it is a great introduction to the city and it’s rich history. Beverly was absolutely fantastic. We have taken Viator tours all over the world and this was one of the very best. You do need to keep in mind that although this is denominated a food tour. You don’t get anything to eat except a welcome coffee and a delicious croissant. However, the guide is very knowledgeable about places to dine in Salem and can provide excellent tips. Don’t hesitate to book this!
Karyn was friendly, knowledgeable, and fun! Her love for Salem shown through. We highly recommend this tour on your fist morning in town. The coffee, sweet treat and food recommendations were spot on!
Host and entire experience was absolutely EXCEPTIONAL!! If you want a history tour of Salem beyond the witch trials, this tour is just the place. Such a bonus to learn how this seafaring city came to be over the centuries & what shaped it into what it is today. Bonus: it includes delicious treats [we had chocolate croissants from a local baker] and water at the start of our tour, and coupons to use at the different eateries that you get to learn about on the tour. I liked that they were places that had a soul, and history in the town. You get great insights into all the best places to eat, even small bites. We ended it by going to the water and learning about the spice trade, and having a spice tasting of a great variety of salts that used to be brought over to Salem on ships [it was SO fun!!]. And I LOVED that our tour guide explained the architecture/history of the buildings as we walked down the different streets. I did not realize there would be so much history that went along with the food tour; that was an absolute delight! We LOVED our tour guide, she was fun, kind, inviting, and passionate, and so knowledgeable about the city she has called home for many years. She really made the tour what it is and was exceptional in every way. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this tour if you want something different, love history, love food , and really want to get immersed in the city from a very kind local with a lot of passion for the place she calls home.
Wonderful tour! Would do this again! Excellent tour guide!
Great job, very knowledgeable about the city of Salem. Would recommend this tours to anyone. Thank uou
Super knowledgeable guide who shared the spice trade history of Salem, which is often overshadowed by the witch trials. It was cool to learn about another part of the city's history
Hands down this was one of the BEST tours we've had with Viator. Karen was an excellent tour guide, not one dull moment the entire tour. She humorous, knowledgeable and educational. I would highly recommend this tour and Karen.
Karen was an awesome guide. She provided a lot of historical information on Salem. She should be the Mayor!!!
This tour was such an amazing experience, I can't recommend it enough! Karen was so knowledgeable, had the best recommendations for where to stop later in our trip, and was just an absolute pleasure to spend time with. I truly appreciated the tone she brought to the information she shared, considering the history Salem is known for - she found a perfect balance of respectful and entertaining.
Karen was great! We enjoyed her enthusiasm and passion for the town of Salem as it went beyond the stereotypical witch tourism. We learned some interesting facts and the spice tasting was better than what we expected. This definitely a true local small business ran tour and I would highly reccomend it! The sweet treat is plus too!
Try to do it early in your stay to get some history and lay of the land. The morning walk was great as there weren’t many people about yet so we were able to get some nice pictures without the crowds. Take notes on the restaurant suggestions if you plan to go to any. We got so much great info we forgot some of it. The tour gives you some discounts at some of the local stores which was a nice bonus. The morning treat was so yummy we had to go to the bakery and bring some home!
Karen was the absolute best. So warm and welcoming. Her knowledge was incredible. I recommend this tour with her 100%
Great experience! Great tour to take start of your trip in Salem ! Karen was great!! Loved the discount s.
The tour guide was amazing! She was so informative and you could tell she actually knew the history. She was very sweet and stayed after the tour to help us find a place to relocate our car. If we get to come back to Salem, I want to do the tour, again, with her.
What a delightful tour! Fantastic tour guide with loads of knowledge, fun and treats. Probably the highlight of our trip! I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone! Now only if I’d taken a picture of the spices so I can order online! Well worth the money!
Fantastic host! Great walk, and great spice tasting. A great way to start the day! Would recommend this tour. Loads of information provided and the history of who Salem truly was throughout the decades was fascinating.
LOVED learning about the food, maritime and food! Simple tour but Karen was a blast! Who knew about the spice industry! So cool! Highly recommend!
This is an awesome tour of history! A leisure walk through time❤️It’s a great way to find new restaurants to visit while in town.
Karen was absolutely tremendous! We were so lucky to have Karen as our Morning Tour guide and she did not disappoint! A welcoming smile, incredibly knowledgeable and funny. She was very thorough and went above and beyond to make everyone in our tour comfortable. Word of advice…. Take and eat the chocolate croissant and don’t share!! It’s the best! Would highly recommend this tour. Book early so you don’t miss out!
Super educational on the economic history of Salem. Not much food, but many recommendations. Make sure you hit Odd Meter for their awesome coffee. The spice tasting was fascinating.
This was very informative about the history of Salem. Karen recommended many places to eat. Loved the spice tasting
This tour is a blend of the history of Salem as well as where to experience food favorites. We learned a lot about Salem's history that we did not know and utilized food advise across our 4 day visit.
Walking in the morning through the streets of Salem great experience. The tour guide great, walk to the waterfront and the spices… great experience
Absolutely amazing tour, the food was outstanding and I learned so much Salem history. I have quite a few food allergies and they made sure I could taste everything or give me an alternative. Karen was the best!
This was so very informative! our tour guide, Karen was so great and friendly! She was so energetic and you can tell that Salem is a special place for her to be living in. She knows so much history about Salem, and that makes for a great tour! Our chocolate croissants were amazing! And we bought several bottle of spices!! This was our favorite tour! It was early in the morning and we enjoyed it very much! Thanks Karen for making our first morning in Salem so memorable!
Had a wonderful experience on this walking food tour. We are locals but took the tour with out of state family members. There were several others for a total of 10 on the tour. Karen gave an excellent overview of the history of Salem, and the downtown as we walked an visited some of the best food options in the city. She is a great guide, lots of fun. She keeps the whole thing organized and even with the city being very crowded we got preferential treatment everywhere we went. The cost was well worth it, with the food, drink and tour. We sampled chowder (Finns), chocolate (Chocolate Pantry) and wonderful pastry (AJ King) We ended the tour with a wine tasting, (Salem Wine Imports) with cheese (Pamplemouse). Don't miss this if you want to know Salem and be part of what Salem offers.
Karen was amazing, she was the best tour guide we could ever ask for. She was knowledgeable in both history, architecture and culture. She went way beyond just the surface of the witch trials and gave a more full in depth guide through Salems history. The coffee was great, the croissant was amazing. She was so kind and understanding. 10/10 experience and would highly recommend.
