Alan was very informative while keeping us interested and laughing throughout the tour. We all enjoyed the stories about Boston’s history.

Nice small group where we could listen as we walked to guides comments. Meet up was easy in front of public library. We should of showed up early to visit the interior of the library. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and had lots of information to keep us interested.
Boston is a lovely city, and our tour guide Alan showed us more fabulous places - like the final stop on the underground railroad, the first integrated Baptist Church and the English church that has no steeple. I learned about the creation of the city, the subway and the city planning.
The freedom walk in Boston was perfect. Alan our tour guide was not only knowledgeable but was friendly and help at the beginning, during and at the end of the tour. This was a great way to see Boston. Definitely worth the time.
Superb walking tour! Our tour guide Andrew was engaging and brought the history to life with fun facts and historical context that was unbeknownst to me, a college history major. It’s amazing how much one can keep learning! I was riveted by it all. Well worth the time and money.
This would have been a good tour for people with a lot of prior knowledge about history. With kids and one person not being American we wanted an overview of the historical events rather than snippets of fun facts. We walked away not feeling as we had learnt a lot however the guide was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Great tour from Alan, our very friendly and knowledgeable guide. Good pace, lots of information, and he even let us run the Boston marathon at the end 😆. Definitely recommend if you want a run down of the main historic sites in the area and also some interesting nuggets of information about the more recent history of Boston too. Will go again with Boston City walks if we visit again. Cheers Alan, Ewan and Theresa.
Excellent work by the guide; a native of over 70 years! Tour was at a nice pace and very informative.
Allen was very knowledgeable. In pain right now since elbow surgery. Nice walk. Nice group. Be sure to leave time to do free tour of Boston public library Friday or Saturday available. About an hour. Beautiful structure. This is where the tour starts. Steps of library.
The information about the building architecture was helpful. Also, the guide agreed to go to Acorn St. and Louisburg Sq. which was a bit off the beaten path in back of Beacon Street which was very interesting.
This was a wonderfully informative walk! Our guide, Andrew, was so engaging and made the history really come alive.
Any tour is only as good as the guide and we certainly struck gold with Alan. He was personal, witty, and informative. Not only was he well versed on the traditional Boston landmarks, but he was equally informative about any Boston-related question that you could throw his way. I would highly recommend this tour for the Boston newbies and for anyone who wants to be able to go in greater depth about Boston geography, politics, archeology, and history.
We took a walking tour of downtown Boston this weekend with Alan. He reminds me slightly of Coach from Cheers with his subtle Boston accent, great sense of humor and extensive knowledge of the city and its history. I really recommend this tour if you would like to learn about the history and architecture of Boston. Alan is a true gem and someone you want to go have a Sam Adams with at a local Boston pub!
Our guide Alan was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. He kept our family (including two teenagers) entertained for the entire tour. Fun tour!
Perfect weather Great tour guide Great overview of the city Good distance/time Wish we would have started and ended at same place
Our guide, Alan, was great! Very friendly an most knowledgeable. He always spoke loud, which is important when you have a large group, in our case 14. Well worth the time and money! Great way to be introduced to Boston!
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and walking through parks and buildings. The local history was impressive.
Al was a great guide being both personable and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend we saw a lot and enjoyed the walk!
Had a great tour guide who was very knowledgeable, developed a good rapport with our group and sprinkled in some humor. Highly recommend!
We had a great time on this tour! It was fun, informative and overall well done. Our guide was a great story teller and did a good job of making the history relatable.
It was good. Not much more to say. The tour guide showed you highlights of Boston with some interesting commentary.
Enjoyed the tour. Guide was knowledgeable and provided interesting background on some intriguing sites.
This was a great was to spend a couple hours on a Sunday. Alan was our tour guide and he was absolutely fantastic! My son (16yo) and myself really enjoyed listening to his stories and recounts of history along the walk. There were five other people along on the tour, three of which were teens. He really had a knack for engaging that age group. We went at a nice pace and before we knew it, two hours had gone by and it didn’t even feel like it. Such a great way to learn some history while enjoying the sites of Boston.
Very interesting and informative. Allen, the tour guide, was very knowledgeable and helpful. I recommend it.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. The pace was just right for a two hour tour. My granddaughter enjoyed the tour and is looking forward to the next one
Alan was a great teacher. Thoughtful of the needs of his group. Thank you for sharing with us along the trial.
Wonderful tour. By far the best and most informative walking tour I’ve been on. There is a lot of history in Boston and this tour was a great way to see the city and learn about it’s history.
Went walking through the streets of Boston and greatly enjoyed the history and design of these neighborhoods. Such wonderful buildings and so much to take in. Day was a little cold in the shadows but wonderful in the warmth of the sun. Definitely recommend a sweater or jacket.
Even though this tour is named a Freedom Trail tour, it is not. Mostly it's a walking tour of some of the most popular spots in Boston, best for first time visitors of the city.
The freedom trail tour was overall very good with lots of interesting facts and stories about a part of Boston we hadn't really toured yet. It was a good experience but I had young kids who thought it a tiny bit boring.
Alan was our knowledgeable and humourous tour guide. Well worth doing this tour (or the one the other way) to give a good introduction to the history.
Alan was great! The tour was diverse covering the sequential history of the growth and development of Boston, history and architecture. Alan gave interesting facts delivered with a sense of humor! He was knowledgeable and interesting. Since Bob is a bit hard of hearing, it was important that our guide's voice be loud enough and clear enough for him to understand ~ Alan met the challenge!! We particularly were interested in how the Back Bay area of Boston was achieved. Alan's narrative was so thorough and informative. We really enjoyed our time touring Boston with such a fantastic guide!
Alan was an excellent tour guide, knowledgeable and entertaining. Lots of interesting tales and historical facts. Well worth doing this tour!
Absolutely fantastic. Alan was very knowledgeable and we very much enjoyed everything he had to tell us.
While in Boston for a few days, my boyfriend and I did the Copley Freedom Trail. It was very informative and I learned a lot of new interesting history. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. At times, and due to the wind, it was a little challenging to hear some of the things the guide was explaining. Make sure you wear comfy shoes, as it is a 2 hour walking tour.
Our tour guide Alan made our afternoon walking tour fun and educational. A worthwhile investment for the 1st time visitor to Boston.
My group of 5 really enjoyed our walking tour with Alan on 9/28. He is an excellent guide - knowledgeable, funny and a native Bostonian (those are harder to find than we expected!). We lucked out with a gorgeous day. I had organized a birthday weekend in Boston for my Mom. We hailed from Pittsburgh, DC, KY, VT and CT. I wanted to have active events in between the eating and drinking, and this was the perfect thing to do. I come to Boston frequently for work and to visit my son, so I loved learning more about things that I haven't had a chance to visit. Most others had only been to Boston once or twice before so this was a super introduction and orientation. Our total group was at least 15 people, and my Mom and her best friend are older and were a little slower than the group, so I felt like we were always a little behind as the pace is brisk. The city was buzzing, which was fun, but also meant it was very loud in some of the places where we stopped and Alan was speaking. He did a great job overcoming that challenge. I loved all of the little details, that make history come to life. I hope to be in Boston on July 4 sometime to hear the live reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Old State House. Very glad we did this tour, and I look forward to doing others in the future with Boston CityWalks. I will request Alan next time for sure!
Excellent walking tour. Gives one an excellent review of history that we learned in 5th grade, 8th grade, etc. Not to be missed if you are interested in learning about this great country. I have done this tour more than once (myself, friends, my children, and family) and each time it is just as fascinating.
There were many options for tours but we chose this walking tour because it included history, architecture and popular spots with Boston natives. Our guide was fun and very knowledgeable. We even went back to several of the spots on our own the next day to explore further. As someone else suggested, wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Highly recommend.
Very engaging and worthwhile tour. The guide was knowledgeable and pointed out areas of interest that could just as easily gone unnoticed. While the group was about 15/20 people, we never felt it was so large that we could not hear or understand what was being discussed. Highly recommend this walking tour; it was fantastic.
Allen did an excellent job sharing everything he knew about Boston and more. Answered every question and with humor. Only 4 of us in the group so it was very personal and informative. Would recommend doing this first and then go back and go into the churches and tourist spots. Lots of walking so wear good shoes and take some water. Highly recommend

Very informative and fun. Plus, it starts from the beautiful Boston Public Library, so, go early and go inside to see the amazing library.

The information presented was very good. The tour guide was late but took extra time at the end. He was knowledgeable but a little repetitive. The walk was the perfect length.

We were all on time and the tour started casually getting to know each other. Alan was our tour guide and spoke clearly and loudly, He offered amazing insights on the tour and the sights we were seeing. There was one point I wish I had been recording, the information was so enlightening. Highly recommend this tour with Alan!

Tour guide did not give enough time to take photos and spent wasted time talking about non-historical items that could have been spent on historical discussion.

to see in priority, with the coloring of red brick houses and flowers hanging here and there as well as trees in short a set of houses decorated like some small Dutch villages
